Other than that, I find the series to be a faithful adaptation of the books for the most part, more so than many other book adaptations I have seen in the past. As soon as the timelines are synchronized properly, which I assume that they will be for the majority of the remaining seasons, and if the budget/time given to the CGI department is increased, I would be happy to increase my score to a 10/10, but until then, a 9 will have to suffice.… Expand

Die Serie empfiehlt sich für jeden, der die Bücher gelesen hat und wird auch für die Spieler der Reihe so einige wunderbare Momente geben. Doch nicht nur die Kenner des Witcher Universums kommen auf ihre Kosten. Jeder Fantasy Fan wird mit dieser neuen Serie seinen Spaß haben. Bin gespannt, wie es weiter gehen wird. Es werden oft Vergleiche zu Game of Thrones gemacht. Man sollte aber mal die erste Staffel von GoT als Vergleich nehmen. Da passierte weit weniger als in der ersten Staffel von The Witcher. I am a book reader and a fan of a game , and i think they did a pretty good job with adapting the story. It is not perfect, but it's not as bad as the critic score suggests. I've not read the books, I've barely played the games. The most I played was Witcher 1 (not even sure it was named) something like that, for about 5 hours, played Witcher 2 for about 3 hours and Witcher 3 for about 1 hour. Music is something obscene. I heard a lot of discontent about female nudity. Overly tender, everything has become tender in our time. As I can see the main critiques come for some secondary actors being black actors? Its a fantasy world people. Its not "slavic" exclusive from only Europe. ITS FICTIONAL. Get over little politic details and because of this you give it a disastrous score like being the worst ever netflix show. Stop being crying political propagandists and enjoy the story.

In my opinion the tv show keeps the atmosphere from the witcher books and games. They keep true as possible to the lore material and it is put in good manner in the show.The scenery, the mood , the dialogue is good. The action is very good. Was binge watching the whole season until 4 am. It is a good series that is something more mature and more dark as it should be.That is what it is all about. That makes the witcher universe work and they nailed that part.

Of course like in every movie or show, there are good actors and some mediocre ones. Some of them are not so good but that doesnt mean its destroys the show. The main ones are playing good esspecially Gerald is well interpreted.

Its a good show, brings somethhing fresh to Neflix, more mature and more quality to the roster. Its a different fantasy and feels good to see something diffrent and well implemented.
Can't wait for season 2.… Expand

One of the best high fantasy series I've watched in a very long time. I was not a GoT fan, as it's court drama was too melodramatic for me. The Witcher is a completely different breed, and I love it for that.

Having read the books and played the games, The Witcher on Netflix was a pleasant surprise. I didn’t hold much hope for Cavill’s take on Geralt but I am happy to be proven wrong. I didn’t hold much hope for Cavill’s take on Geralt but I am happy to be proven wrong. He makes the character his own while channeling the vocal and physical characteristics that made the CD Projekt Red’s version so compelling a protagonist and his performance is a pleasure to watch.

One of the critic reviews makes a comparison with game of thrones, which is a strange place to go but just as basic as you might expect from main stream commentators who see the world through the same old tired stereotypes.

Another comment was that the scripts goes from old language to modern speak, confusing the style of the tale. This is only true for one character , a bard, and this is clearly part of his character, something that made sense to me given his role as both a narrator and comic relief. Liking this will be subjective, I thought it was ace.

A couple of slow lulls in the show stopped this from being a 10, but then again anything is rarely perfect to anyone.

Go into this world without expectations, follow the story the characters tell you and allow the pieces to fall into place, and hopefully you will be rewarded and left eagerly awaiting season two as I am. Enjoy the world of The Witcher!… Expand

As an avid fan of the books and the games, I was nervous heading into the beginning of this series. Particularly Henry Cavil. And I am happy to say my fears were unfounded. While the show did take some liberties with the story overall, theAs an avid fan of the books and the games, I was nervous heading into the beginning of this series. Particularly Henry Cavil. And I am happy to say my fears were unfounded. While the show did take some liberties with the story overall, the premise stays remarkably close to the source material. Henry is amazing as Geralt, with his grunts being the best part of the lot. The action sequences are brutal and well-choreographed. The settings both indoors and out are amazing and true to my mind's eye view of the world. It all really does come together fantastically to tell an awesome story and set the basis for what I hope will be a long ride. Side Note 1: This does not take place in "Eastern Europe". Many people are complaining about the "diversity" of the cast and how that is unrealistic by medieval European standards. Well, I hate to break it to you, but this is FANTASY FICTION that takes place on the Continent, an entirely made-up place.
Side Note 2: Get over yourselves if you have an issue with diversity. Everything is made up and your points don't matter. These books feature women as some of the strongest characters there are and the diversity in the Race of the actors who are playing make-believe characters only means something to you if you do not like the races in question outside of fictional universes. You have a whole other problem if that is what is stopping you from actually enjoying something that is well-made and lovingly crafted. Sucks that internet gave you a voice and let you believe anyone cared enough for you to use it. Side note 3: I hope Metacritic has enough sense and courage to go through and delete the hate and vitriol from these snowflake conservative racist incels and remove them from the site. They are destroying this site and negatively impacting the reviews and scores for almost anything worth merit.… Expand

Netflix's the Witcher leaves you wanting more and more episodes which is the highest compliment I can give. While reading this review, understand that I have not read the books or played the video-games so I came into it as close to notNetflix's the Witcher leaves you wanting more and more episodes which is the highest compliment I can give. While reading this review, understand that I have not read the books or played the video-games so I came into it as close to not knowing anything about the world of the Witcher as one could but now I am completely hooked. Season 1 starts of rather "meh" with Episode 1 (it was okay but didn't blow me away) but each episode after just kept getting better and better where by the end of season 1 I didn't want to stop watching. So what's good? Well, firstly, Henry Cavill is a complete badass and a brilliant Geralt (again coming from someone who hasn't read the books or explored the games). I started off worrying that he would be a monotone character with little depth who just broods all the time and does his best attempt at a Batman voice impression but over 8 episodes you really see the character of Geralt grow and evolve. Cavill really knocks it out of the park; with his acting and the help of great makeup and costume team, he really transforms into Geralt and not just superman with a white wig on. So bravo!

Apart from Cavill, The Witcher has also has a wealth of great supporting cast and characters which all add their own interesting storylines and quirks to show. Without going into detail, the character of Yennifer has one of the most interesting storylines and journeys of the whole show. The Bard character also adds some really great comic relief and humor. What's also a strength of The Witcher's cast of character is is they feel real and gritty and filled with flaws. The writers do a great job of balancing those strengths and flaws.

What did feel like a bit of a challenge sometime was the 3 main storylines did sometimes get a little muddy/hard to follow especially when the show doesn't make the "timelines" very clear upfront (which may not be an issue for people familiar with these characters). To add to the challenge they also add in quite a number of new names and faces at the audience which was also a little difficult to keep track of. However, sticking with it definitely pays off and as various storylines come together it becomes clearer and clearer (also Googling helps).

Finally, one of the strongest things about the Witcher is the world that is created on screen. If you're a fan of fantasy then you'll no doubt love this show. There are a ton of very cool magic spells, fantastical creatures and host of classical fantasy tropes/must haves: taverns, quests, epic monster fight sequences, wenches, battling armies and the list goes on.

Overall, if you are fantasy fan then give The Witcher a shot. It's not a perfect show but it's a lot of fun and it seems to only get better.… Expand

Love the series, but in my personal opinion the episodes felt out of order. I understand why they did this but it still felt weird. None the less I still enjoyed every minute!

This has been such an enjoyable first season thus far (I am four episodes in). It does take a little while to come together, and you certainly have to pay attention with the split time lines, but over all it's a very fantasy romp! I have read some of the books, and played the Witcher 2, and 3, and even with some of the casting difference I can certainly see the spirit of both coming through. It saddens me that a few of the (professional) reviewers take the lazy route in reviewing this series, but I can see that not everyone would necessarily enjoy the show. I'm in!… Expand

It starts out as episodic tales of the wandering hero who values solitude and few words and it builds to a larger connected more epic adventure story.

It grew on me. I'm not gonna lie; I didn't like the first few episodes. But I stuck with it. I got used to the humour and the comic character and just surrendered to the show and had fun with it.. and I'm happy I did! The last half of the season is particularly impressive. I can't wait to see what happens next :)

One request: please stop breaking the 4th wall. That is all.… Expand

It took me a bit to wrap my head around the shifting timelines, but the characters aren’t simple, and neither are the plot lines. Because of this the show deserves a bit of time to develop before dismissing it as too complicated. The cast is solid and the source material is great. The only thing holding this back was how they chose to tell the story. It seems like the title of “critic” means nothing nowadays. The poor reviews for this show stem from irrelevant and uninterested parties, some of which didn’t even watch the full series; serious, some of them skipped a few episodes and still feel that their judgement is valid. Nonetheless, this adaptation of the Witcher is easily one of the best originals on Netflix. All the work put into this masterpiece of a first season successfully captures both the novel and game series, the balance is struck perfectly. The casting is terrific, however there are a few roles which could have been changed, such as the actress who portrays Triss Merrigold (I’m a hardcore Witch video game fan so this choice doesn’t sit will with me). However the actress’s work does not fall short of excellent, so the experience was not impacted for me. This first season has not only rekindled my love for the Witcher series, but it also has secured Netflix’s subscription in my bank account. This show could have so easily been tarnished through executive agendas and bad writing, but this sets the bar for how well done future adaptations, and shows in general, should be done. I am so thankful for this wonderful and exciting new journey that Geralt will embark on, and I can’t wait for season two.… Expand

Meiner Meinung nach eine sehr gute Adaption des/der Bücher. Die Charaktere sind sehr gut getroffen und stimmig zur Geschichte. Die Kostüme sind sehr schön gestaltet und die Kämpfe sehr gut choreografiert.

Letztendlich ist diese Serie aber auch unerfahrenen Zuschauern zu empfehlen, da diese Lust auf mehr macht und den Einstieg in Bücher und Spiele vielleicht versüßt. Und der Soundtrack erst... ein Ohrwurm für Wochen… Expand

I have read all the books, played all the games. I was skeptical when starting up because of the bad reviews from the professional critics. Para quem leu os livros ou jogou os jogos, esse programa é um desejo que se torna realidade. Sangrenta, brilhante e uma verdadeira adaptação. Não é uma série perfeita ,mais mesmo assim foi uma ótima adaptação.

The actors are well-chosen, Triss is so-so and I close my eyes to the dark-skinned sorceress at Nilfgard. If you haven't read the book, then you'd better watch the first 3 series carefully, cause it's there are three different times shown in parallel that can confuse new fans. But in other cases it's excellent!

I had the most experience with the games, and only then I've read the Witcher books. That's the reason I had some unfulfilled expectations after watching Netflix series. That's the reason I had some unfulfilled expectations after watching Netflix series. But during the process of watching the first season, I understood that it's a completely different take on the source material and by tossing off my expectations I began to get as much enjoyment as I could get. Some mistakes are made but it's a nice adaptation none the less. Worldbuilding is great, the soundtrack is quite good too, but I'm a bigger fan of Witcher 3 stuff. Henry is great and it is very easy to spot his devotion to this role and this universe. I hope that the show will do even better in the future because it's clear that there is still some space for improvement. Currently, I'm again intrigued in the story I already know so good, so that's a very good sign I guess :)… Expand

As a person who hasn't read the books and only knows that the game exists (+ having seen screenshots here and there) this series is quite awesome. For me personally the main cast is perfect in their roles and I've enjoyed watching two seasons with my wife.

Personally the nudity and gore makes it occasionally hard to watch but I suppose that is what the source material is like. The story is also a bit hard to follow with all sorts of names thrown around here and there that you are expected to memorize at that moment.

Really looking forward to seeing more of this series in the future. The first two seasons have me hooked.… Expand
