True enough to the books. Pretty good casting. As far as telivision fantasy there is not much better than this, except GOT1-4. Interesting world and there is a lot of room to grow. The dragon looks a little wierd so a 9 instead of 10.

Im intentionally not going to compare it to other fantasy movies/TV shows. The witcher is a good watch. Disregard all of the dumb critics who seem like they are being paid to trash this show. If you are interested in shows of this type then you will likely find it enjoyable. I would like to see many more seasons of this made

Honestly better than Game of Thrones. This Ip is genuinely one of the most interesting ips in the last 20 years. Finally it's hitting the silver screen and it does not disappoint. Seriously, this show is a must watch, even if you aren't a huge fan of the fantasy genre.

Series had some weakness, but still a good series has a lot of potential to be great. Starts out slow with confusing story lines but need a lot of YouTube to understand it. Or rewatch the series to truly appreciate it. Critic reviews are stupid, critics are bought out by big companies. Pay attention to fan reviews and user reviews.

I like the series alot. The Cast is incredible Henry Cavill IS Geralt, Yennefer is turning into a badass sorceress, the scenery is top noch, the timeline can be confusing but it All comes together perfectly in episode 8. I played all games, read Blood of Elves and Sword of Destiny, I can recommend this Serie to fans and newcomer and cant wait for season 2.

This is the first show since Game of Thrones that has captivated me to the point of obsession. It’s wonderfully character driven with round conflicted characters. Henry Cavill as the Witcher is perfect! Stoic with a wry sense of humor. I’ve started reading the books and believe Cavill captures Geralt’s personality perfectly!

The writing, the effects, and the casting are all superb, with the rare exception that can be forgiven as this is a Netflix show and in its first season. The source material is so rich and entertaining I can't wait to see what they can do with a proper budget for the subsequent seasons!

The Witcher was the most legendary looking I ever watched at the time. This is something which might actually become a big franchise in the future if used properly. I have never played the game, though I have The Witcher Enhanced Edition on my GOG account. Because of this at first I was hesitant to watch this show, since I thought I won't understand anything. But later I got to know this is based on the book and not the game, so I was able to enjoy this.
Geralt of Rivia is my favourite mythological character now. His entry in the first scene was very badass, where he rips out a monster and exits. Initially I had only begun watching this for the memes, but slowly I started liking all the characters. In the first episode itself there is the scene where Geralt kills all the villagers and walks out of there. This precedes a meme template which I'm not allowed to write in this review since it's a cuss word.
There is a lot of world building here. We have all the landscapes, the creatures, the people, the lifestyle. It really feels like an RPG. The kids who used to ask everyone to watch Game of Thrones must be rolling in their graves after watching this. It clearly did more world building in just 2 episodes than Game of Thrones did in one whole season. There are many concepts that are explained throughout the series and all the background and context that is required to understand what is happening. The character development is also intense, especially for Yennefer when she transforms into a crooked outcast to a beautiful woman.
My favourite character in the show is the bard. His song, "Toss a coin to your Witcher, oh valley of plenty!" is now stuck in my head and is playing in a loop as I'm writing this review. My favourite episode was the one where all the different characters go out in the mountains to hunt for the golden dragon, and in the end the golden dragon reveals himself before Geralt. It is also the first thing I remember when I think of The Witcher.
It's good to see video game adaptations are finally getting better, and stories from lesser developed countries like Poland are being heard all over the world. I hope this series never gets ruined by the campiness that eventually haunted DCEU or Game of Thrones. This show needs to stay longer. It has inspired me to play the games once I get a gaming PC. It's a cultural phenomenon for us gamers and we must support it if we want to make ourselves and our hobby more recognised.

The acting of some of the new characters is questionable as is the decision about what to focus on. By the end of episode 5 I had to force myself to watch it to the end. It just does not click.

It’s not even the actual political agenda that annoys me the most, it’s how immersion breaking some of the changes or book interpretations are. Off the top of my head, one of the most powerful characters in the books is reduced to some weakling who can do a cool party trick, but ultimately goes tumbling down a hill and gets knocked unconscious. Oh, and for that role, they casted an average height, indian guy - although, he’s specifically described as «a fair skinned, particularly tall and handsome guy» in the books. Why? The books are based on Slavic and Northern European mythology, not some modern day, racial inclusion nonsense! Henry Cavill’s interpretation of Geralt is, in my opinion, as close to perfect as you can expect, and there are other, very good acting performances by the other characters in this first season of the show - but despite it’s fairly high entertainment value, I personally think it’s flaws and odd decisions on the part of the creator, prevents this TV series from being so much more. The main issue I felt, was they took the first episode and wrote it in a way that it was only meant for people that have some knowledge of the existing story. They rushed a ton of the story within the first episode and kinda felt like the movies "van helsing" or "the brothers grim". Not terrible but not good. And lets be real, This show is suppose to be at least a 9/10, not a MEH.

Henry Cavill is the actor who plays the role of Geralt of Rivia. To my knowledge he too is a big fan of the Books written by Andrzej Sapkowski and the Video Games made by CDProject Red. I'm not one to usually write reviews. But I think that this series will need someone who will see it with an open mind. I've read almost all of the books except for one, that book being Season of Storms, and played the 3rd video game three times over. Needless to say, I am a fan.

That being said, for newcomers expecting this Netflix Series to best Game of Thrones.... It has potential but that may be stretching it a bit. But even as a fan of the Witcher book series even more so than that of A Song of Ice and Fire (GoT book Series) I couldn't help but compare it to Game of Thrones first season. But it is NOT GoT! If you have begun to watch it and haven't liked it so far in comparing it to an initially beloved and eventually divisive show (GoT), maybe this brief synopsis of my interpretation and OPINION will help to alleviate that feeling and give you a more refreshing look on the show.

The Characters in this series are compelling. I have always enjoyed Geralt's travels on the path, Yennefer's development from a hunch back into the impressively powerful sorceress, and delving into the mysticism of Ciri's bloodline. The moral ambiguity of each story told and the choice, or lack there of, that is made by the characters is riveting. The world-building done by Sapkowski was very well crafted, so it is my hope that continuing forward the show pulls from its abundant amount of source material.

People will complain about anything they can. Whether it be the sometimes awkward CGI, Cavill's wig, "Forced Feminism" (which I have seen in other posts), or any manner of things. But all-in-all I've never cared much for the sometimes shotty CGI or other mishaps, that'll happen in shows. I find more interest in the stories that are told. And on the "Forced Feminism" I myself don't indulge in the ideologies of either Feminism or MRA, maybe a little of both as kind of a non-partisan take on it all. There was an onslaught of Feminist remarks made within almost every scene. Does this really take away from the story? Yes. Was it needed? No. Personally I just try desperately to ignore it. But it keeps pushing proto-feminism down your throat rather than to actually give you a compelling story. I enjoy Strong female characters and Yennefer's and Ciri's stories are truly fascinating. In the books, for the most part, we were always kind of told those stories in the background with Geralt's travels and thoughts in the foreground. I like that the show acknowledges each characters stories and how it ties together in unison, pulling each story together rather than making them feel like separate entities within the same universe. But this is second to the feminist agenda of the scriptwriters. And the story itself suffers despite the great idea of melding these stories together.

There has been a lot of focus on the people that have surrounded Geralt's life. Namely Yennefer and Ciri. And it appears to be building towards their intertwined destiny, to have incredible influence on one another and become a "family" of sorts. And each of their stories is GREAT, don't get me wrong. I'm not sure how many seasons Netflix plans on making for this show, but if its less than 4, then the pacing seems a little...off? I've watched every episode and Its like its too fast in some places, while all together too slow in others. Again, I believe this to be the fault of the screenwriters forcing an agenda on an otherwise compelling and captivating story that did not need it. And neither did its fans.

If you are someone who is comparing it to Game of Thrones, I can understand how hard it can be not to. I was disappointed in GoT final season and have developed a critical and comparing sight myself for any show that has entered my eye holes since then. Needless to say, I think the Witcher fills that fantasy niche that my heart was looking for after the devastating blow that was Season 8 of GoT. Now as to whether The Witcher will satiate my want for an absolute masterpiece of a series... more needs to be seen in future seasons, but this season so far is simply WATCHABLE. Its interesting although not entirely true to the source material, that's all it needs to be at this moment. But there is far too much focus on promoting ideals than there is on alignment to the actual story.

From the first season onwards, changes must be made. People giving it a 0 may merely be too critical, or as Cavill said they are simply VERY PASSIONATE about a series they love. I hope that those people will be able to set aside the shows flaws and try as I have to indulge into the truly epic tale that Netflix is trying to tell. And given the source material it has the potential to be one, IF THE POLITICAL AGENDA IS SET ASIDE!

The script is really bad, dialogs are horrible, characters are butchered. Season one was really bad and due to changes made to the story, they are going deeper and deeper into the world of terrible confusion and at the same time feeding us horrible experiences. Dialogs are written once in the tones of fantasy and in other times modern talk. The political correctness that changed the plot and characters in season one now just makes it unwatchable. The story of Ciri was a story of a child and clearly here she is a woman. I do not see redemption for this series. I like Henry but he should know better not to be part of this atrocity. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It could be so good but the stories are rushed, some of the best part have been cut or changed to be worse.
The sorceresses have been misused as not one of them exudes the confidence and class ascribed to their respective characters in the books. They act more like 19 year olds in their first convincing cosplay than 100 year old mages and Yen bothers me the most. The facial expressions she makes and the manner in which she delivers insults feels bitter and immature, not powerful, confident, and snobbish. This could just be bad writing but one way or another it needs fixed. This is after her transformation, the acting before is good. Some other parts from Yens story will either leave gaping holes in the plot or require extensive revision of it.
Some characters have been done well though, Geralt and Jaskir are great, Ciri is good as well though there is room for improvement in all 3.
For the smaller fights the choreography is great but the larger battles are not good and in Sodden Hill's case really is a massive let down compared to what it should be.
The ending along with the stories have been changed in ways that have lost a lot of the emotional impact that the books had.
The writing needs a lot of work, sometimes its good and sometimes its bad, sometimes i felt like the writers didn't know what they were making and a few times you can tell what was from the books and what was made up by the writers as it became a lot watered down.
With Nilfgaard and Fringilla there are a lot of changes and i dont think anyone of them is for the best. There are more points but this is quite long now so overall whilst enjoyable for some parts there are a lot of things that need changing and made better. 5/10

Was unsure of what to expect from this, but as someone who has played the games, there is a rich and diverse world to work with.
It's a shame we got a bit of a sprawling mess across to many timelines. Sometimes a more linear approach is the best.

Henry cavill and the rest of the cast are amazing but the episodes keep going back and forth through time which kinda makes it hard to follow otherwise it's a great show

Witcher 1 is awesome. I just tried to watch season 2 and was disappointed 4 eps. in. There is no edge or allure like season 1 has. They did away with the sex and nude scenes (even a bath scene with 4 girls including yennifer was shot on purpose so we could no see nudity) - lame! Come on, the formula works well in the 1st season so why change it. I recommend season 1 for a great actionWitcher 1 is awesome. I just tried to watch season 2 and was disappointed 4 eps. in. Omg! The first episode was pretty good but everything else just was terrible to watch! This should have a 4/10

I watched first season - it was... meh, but Henry Cavill was very good as Gerald. "I'll give them a chance!".

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I really enjoyed watching this first season, as it was a season which is really staying close to the books. Every episode I watched, i relatively quickly knew which chapter its source was, and that is good. I also liked the new storyline telling a bit about the background story of Yennefer. The only thing I did not like was the ending: It was my favourite chapter in the book and I don't feel like it has been done justice here.

I don't get why the second season had to be so bad...
I'd still highly recommend giving the first one a watch!

The User score is what matters here. These are the people watching the show, paying money to get Netflix going. It was nice to see a character (Witcher) so accurate to the game! Ya know, the people spending $ 60 to play the game and another $20 for netflix. WE were happy with this. Y'all wonder why you're loosing money and bo one think of you as journalists lol.

Thanks to this series, I got acquainted with the wonderful world of Andrzej Sapkowski - I started reading books and playing games. Thank you, Netflix, for such a pleasant acquaintance. The series itself is a good one. However, the only good casting is in Geralt and Dandellion.

Awesome show and great acting, season 2 was almost as good and season 3 has now killed the show… I couldn’t even finish season 3, it was that bad.

As a mindless fantasy rollercoaster, Geralt’s journey is five stars all the way to tea-time. Sadly, for those who like brains with their brawn, it may be more of a slog.

It takes a while for viewers to learn how these characters are connected, via an exasperating Westworld-esque narrative knot that takes much of the season to unfurl. ... The Witcher heightens our confusion by fumbling details that would have helped it set a cohesive tone. Dialogue vacillates, from line to line, between theatrical fantasy-speak and modern colloquialisms (“Dragons are, in fact, a thing!”).
