While the game captures a certain sense of wonder, Of Ash and Steel is unreasonably unpolished and miserable to play. If the game were still in testing, I would call it ambitious, but changes still need to be made to the core experience and a lot of QA still needs to be done on what is being called a finished game.

Death Relives quickly lost the interest of this horror fan. Though it’s built upon a strong concept, the concept alone is not strong enough to carry other aspects of the game that fail to fit into its genre or generally excite. While I wouldn’t call Death Relives a winner, I eagerly look towards what comes next from this studio and to see if they learn from the mistakes of their first title.

The Sacred 2 Remaster is a half hearted attempt to update a game that felt kind of dated in its heyday. Beyond updated graphics and a new, buggy HUD, nothing has been done to actually remaster the title and improve upon its original flaws, with constant bugs, crashes, and problems persisting throughout. Simply put, it’s not worth your time, as a new player or a nostalgic returner.

For the first creation of a solo developer, Pneumata is a well-put-together, albeit flawed game with some nice visuals, something any amateur should be proud of. S.E.C.U. has a strong gameplay foundation and ticks off all mechanical boxes for a good FPS game. I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it a thousand times: in a FPS game, one of the most important things you can have are guns that feel good to use. Unfortunately, many of the guns in Hellbreach: Vegas simply don’t. They have recoil that doesn’t feel punchy or strong, and audio that loops obviously and simply doesn’t sound very good. Audio design, in general, is not great in this game, with some sounds being way too loud or looping way too often, like the crows. There were a few times when the audio outright broke for a few seconds. Most tragically, the guns feel weak. This is due in large part to how the zombies increase in health, but also how they don’t stagger from bullets, and how you can’t blow limbs off or cripple them. Generally, the guns are just a big thumbs down for me, which is very disappointing, because they could easily have made the game much better on their own. [Early Access Review]

It seems as though Builders of Egypt skipped an early access or testing phase. That said, the price is reasonable—at $20, it offers an average city-building experience with a unique Egyptian theme. While it may not be groundbreaking, it’s worth checking out if the setting appeals to you.

Final Knight may be a bit clunky with its UI and basic with its beat-em-up gameplay, but it delivers on the fantasy of a party-building adventure game perfectly. If optimizing builds and the promise of strong loot compels you to venture into the lair of dangerous monsters, Final Knight is the game for you. [Early Access Review]

In its current state, Hyper Light Breaker’s combat is simply too difficult, and progression is severely gatekept by a game design that makes the permanent buffs typical of the roguelike genre inaccessible. Paired with some frame drops and optimization issues, it’s safe for me to say that while Hyper Light Breaker is promising, it has some work to do before it’s ready to launch. [Early Access Review]

I didn’t experience any bugs, or if I did, I didn’t notice them. In its current state, the game only contains the first chapter, but that’s already more than enough to keep players engaged while the developers polish the game for its full release which I’m looking forward to. Heart of the Machine is a very interesting game and one that I think has a lot of promise. I think the story could use some polish, the tutorial could be briefer while also being more informative, and some minor graphical bugs, including texture load failures, could be addressed, but the Early Access game has plenty of time to improve upon these aspects to deliver a title with a ton of promise. With some minor adjustments and more time in development, MISTERY could have been a great game. However, as it exists now, the title feels unfinished, somewhat buggy, and hard to access for an English-speaking audience, which may explain why the game doesn’t have many players on its North American servers.

Astronomics is in a very promising state. Some features are missing due to the game’s early access version, but with a fun gameplay loop and a just-out-of-reach goal that keeps you very motivated to keep playing, Astronomics is sure to be a popular hit. [Early Access Review]

With a fun gameplay loop and a sincere understanding of what makes “Zombie Apocalypse” survival games enjoyable, Welcome Back, Commander can easily suck you in and keep you playing. However, arbitrary restrictions and some buggy design can hold the game back from its full potential.

The Solid Snake inspirations are clearly intentional when you look at the game’s phenomenal voice cast. Imagine my shock when I not only heard but then rushed to the Steam page to confirm the presence of legendary voice actor and icon of my childhood David Hayter in the role of our protagonist, delivering his delightfully edgy lines with what is undeniably the best voice performance you could ask for a character like this, with maybe Robbie Daymond or Johnny Yong Bosch coming in as distant second choices. Die in the Dungeon offers a fresh and engaging take on the roguelike deckbuilding genre by replacing cards with dice. The combination of strategic placement, energy management, and customizable dice rolls creates a gameplay experience that is both satisfying and full of depth. While the game could benefit from a more intuitive tooltip system to better explain the various effects and keywords, its charming art style, clever mechanics, and the quirky inclusion of frog knights make it an enjoyable and unique title for fans of the genre. Overall, Die in the Dungeon is a fun, innovative game that is well worth exploring. [Early Access Review]

Grimoire Groves took a bit of time to grow on me, but once it did I found myself impressed by its relaxing, adorable atmosphere, its friendly characters, and its unique take on witchy farmcraft. A roguelite with an incredibly unique identity, fans of Stardew Valley and Hades are sure to find some love for this little game.

It’s clear that the developers took inspiration from the mysticism in the real-life disaster zone, as well as games like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. that also explore this area. However, if you ask me, it feels as though a lot of their writing and world-building expanded beyond the scope of their original interest, becoming a bit too bloated in scale. It simply felt to me at several points that a character with the powers that he had, working for the people he works for, shouldn’t have been stranded as he was in an area you can drive through in half an hour. The game, at least as it was presented in the demo, would have been a lot more engaging story-wise with a protagonist who was a little closer to the ground, especially one without the ability to “walk between worlds.” [Early Access Review]

Odinfall‘s characters are as unique, interesting, and deadly as the other aspects of the game. From an incredible chill moose to a berserker with a robotic arm, the game has a penchant for creating interesting characters that will quickly steal your attention. Even the severed head of Loki, who acts as your guide/base manager, is an incredibly well-written and interesting character. You’ll find yourself speaking to him after each run as you unlock more and more lines of dialogue with the imprisoned god. [Early Access Review]

Metal Bringer has become one of my favorite new mecha games, with a highly replayable roguelike loop and incredible mech customization systems. Though poor localization and some overwhelming VFX and UI elements can make clarity an issue, Metal Bringer is fun enough that you likely won’t find yourself caring.

Though mostly faithful to the original, FATE: Reawakened remains a game hard to recommend to newcomers to the franchise or die-hard fans of the series, as it feels far too dated to keep the long-term attention of new players, and makes unnecessary changes that the fans don’t enjoy. Regardless, if you’re nostalgic for the series, it may still be worth giving it a try.

The Deadly Path is an excellent puzzle game, featuring a genuinely engaging gameplay loop presented through some pretty awesome horror themes and artwork. Though a few bugs seem to have slipped in at launch, you’re bound to enjoy your time with this eerie little puzzle-survival game about farming bones and meat for dead gods.

Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days is a really cool concept. The unique presentation and shelter-based gameplay offer a type of zombie game we don’t have right now—something like a more digestible version of Project Zomboid. However, the Early Access launch isn’t without flaws, many of which are already addressed in the Early Access roadmap. We’ll have to wait and see what the game becomes at full release. As far as non-bug-related changes, I would like to see the ability to skip the game’s tutorial added at some point. Also, I feel like the game’s judgment on which movie genres match and which don’t could be improved. For example, who doesn’t like a western horror film, featuring an incredible monster? According to Hollywood Animal, these genres clash, leading to a script that simply doesn’t work. [Early Access Review]

Stygian: Outer Gods is in a decent place for an Early Access title. While I’d like to see some minor improvements to storytelling and character animation, these are relatively small issues that don’t seriously impact the experience. The far more serious problem is the severe optimization and frame rate drops in outdoor areas—locations where players will spend a significant amount of time. These issues absolutely need to be fixed before launch. [Early Access Review]

Surprisingly, I didn’t encounter any bugs—aside from the roaches used as currency at vending machines—despite White Knuckle still being in Early Access. If I were to offer a suggestion, I’d say to include some on-screen tutorials at the start of a new climb. Not everyone plays the main tutorial, but it contains important mechanics that, if missed, make the game much harder. For example, just knowing you have an inventory to store items was a huge game-changer. In one run, I got stuck holding a can because I didn’t know I had to put it back into my backpack after eating. If I could think of one thing to add to Wizdom Academy, on top of all of these fixes and tweaks, it would be more from the building system. While I like it currently, the ability to build curved walls, bridges, and buildings hugging edges would be a phenomenally witchy addition to a game all about going to school for magic. Food for thought, developers; you already have a lot to work on as it is. [Early Access Review]

Dinkum is a fun twist on its genre, offering a unique feeling of progression and open-world gameplay in a setting inspired by the Australian Outback. You’re either going to love the game for the long-term commitment it demands or grow a bit tired of its slow pacing. Either way, I think the game is worth giving a shot.
