I found the game to be a worthy twist on the Tetris genre; relaxing to play and engaging, with a compelling soundtrack and effects.

It's a whole different world on that side of the App Store, but I think Crowntakers holds it own quite well with its unusual blend of elements from roguelikes, strategy games, and RPGs.

Dragon Hills takes the core idea of flying a dragon, strips it down to its absolute basics, and goes wild.

Pie in the Sky: A Pizza Odyssey may not be for everyone, but those of you who enjoy a good relaxation-based affair will get a good amount of time in with it.

Football Manager Classic 2015 is a fantastic game not just for those who love the sport, but also for anyone who enjoys RPGs and choose-your-adventure gamebooks.

I appreciate Hit-Point trying to shore up their weak points and work outside of their comfort zone, but Valkyria Soul just doesn't work very well.

So The Quest Keeper falls just short of the heights that Crossy Road reaches, but it's a perfectly valuable game in its own right. It's a ton of fun, it kept me coming back to it again and again to try and get both high scores and to complete quests, and I got to outrun a bunch of spiders.

It's odd to say that a gorgeous game like Last Voyage can be shallow, but it kind of is, albeit in an interesting way.

The lack of urgency and dread and overall anxiousness of how much longer I can make my run go is ultimately Corridor Z's biggest downfall, and holds back what is an otherwise great take on a tired formula. Two tired formulas, in fact.

Unusually for a free game, Dungeon Hero RPG is more than willing to freely give you everything it has to offer. It's just a shame that everything it's got ends up being fairly meager in total.

In the end, I think I'm just a bit disappointed that for how much Mortal Kombat X is a better-designed experience, very little of that improvement includes the actual gameplay.

I like the attempts to add complexity, but CivCrafter takes it to its logical extreme. It's a stupid and clever idea, but perhaps this is where we should end the ride for the genre.

This could be a unique collecting-and-battling game, and instead it exists a singleplayer-focused experience, trying to monetize through little advantages here and there.

The drop off in pace from Iron Age to Classical Age was too sharp as it felt like I'd suddenly run out of things to do, but otherwise this is a solid game with exceptionally high production values and a fair free-to-play system.

Even if you aren't the type of gamer that enjoys taxing experiences, Cube Koala is so well designed that you can pick it up and play it with ease, learning its intricacies as you go along.

If you actually remember "retro games" from the first time round, when they were just "games" and we didn't know they were retro yet, then Boss Monster will surely rekindle some fond memories from your youth.

It's not an RPG. There's no dungeon exploring. You go from A to B by moving left or right based on what you want to pick up next, and that's all. Here's the exact description that Invictus put on the App Store: "This ultimate pixel art RPG game brings you solid and pure dungeon crawling experience." No it doesn't, Invictus. It does not.

Here we have the simple story of a hero trying to bring down the baddie told in such a classic cat-and-mouse way that Gunpowder will appeal to both fans of puzzle games and cartoons alike.

It’s rare for a game to be as difficulty and frustrating for me and yet be so enjoyable to play. Chromaticon manages to strike that balance with me and offers a compelling enough experience to keep plowing along until I can eventually complete that next stage and move on.

Escape From the Pyramid will scratch your itch if you're looking for another challenging runner that actually has an end. It could use a few tweaks control-wise and maybe a bit more content down the line, but for now it's a great way to unwind and watch all of the IAP-heavy runners pass you by.
