If you are a horror fan, Ellen is definitely worth checking out. It’s a genuinely unsettling and atmospheric title that does the best with the tools available to it. Yes, the lack of variety is definitely an issue, but that shouldn’t hold you back if you crave a few scares.

The Sims 4 Get Famous DLC on Xbox One appears to have seemingly added more of the same as with previous expansions, such as a new location, new customisation options and new careers, and not much else, however the inclusion of this Fame system offers a new target to aim for.

Taking everything into account, FIFA 20 on Xbox One has brought in more control to the experience; in particular the defending which feels refined. The Ultimate Team mode shines brighter than ever, whilst Pro Clubs receives the boost it needed, with many other areas still delivering solid modes without changing much. Sadly, there’s no longevity in VOLTA as it is, with a yawn-inducing story not helping matters.

The Adventures of Elena Temple on Xbox One feels like an artifact in a museum; beautiful, interesting, but ultimately throwaway.

The writing is very strong and the whole complex multiverse nature of the game is a delight. Some will find the prospect of sitting around and chatting too dull to warrant a purchase, and others might discover that after one playthrough, they’ll not want to play it anymore, but unfortunately for them, I think they’d be missing out on some brilliant possibilities and many “sliding doors” moments.

For a game that’s just a couple of hours long, and costs less than a fiver to get hold of, it just about caters for those who wish to take a gamble on surviving another zombie apocalypse.

A Winter’s Daydream on Xbox One is cheap, which helps in its extremely short length of just 3 hours, but I fear that this low price point won’t cover the expensive mistake that this ‘game’ makes. That is, forgetting to become a game at all.

A fantastic story arc, lots of replay value, and with tons of things to find and explore, Code Vein ticks a lot of boxes. If the camera was right, and parrying worked better then it would be a near-perfect score, but these small annoyances just stop it from reaching those heights.

Edna & Harvey: Harvey’s New Eyes on Xbox One just about manages to deliver a point-and-click experience which is funny and intriguing enough to warrant a look.

Fight’N Rage on Xbox One is an ocean-deep video game belonging to a genre not normally known for offering gameplay variety. The fighting system and level design have a level of depth and variety which provide plenty to discover for those willing to commit. Beyond this there is a pandora’s box of unlockable goods and secrets worth coming back to again and again.

Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair really feels like a game designed for all ages. Veteran players will appreciate the standard difficulty of the game, whilst younger ones may benefit from a few Tonics to help them on their way.

Kamiko is a good distraction for a few hours but not really enough of a slow burner to keep you coming back for playthrough after playthrough.

Restless Hero on Xbox One is a strong outing; a remarkable effort by a tiny development team. There are improvements that could be made, but they do not detract from the fact that the game is a really enjoyable 2D platforming adventure.

Age of Wonders: Planetfall on Xbox One is easily one of the best in the genre, putting so many elements together into one fantastic package. It’s an easy recommendation for anyone who loves the genre, and will be able to sustain strategy fans for weeks and even months on end.

Decay of Logos on Xbox One has charm and meets all the basic action/adventure RPG criteria, but offers little else. Unfortunately its ambition is let down by an average execution. The Legend of Zelda, this ain’t.

With all aspects weighed up, including the reasonable price point, you should certainly give Torchlight II a go and let it light up your life with what is an addictive dungeon crawling experience.

By their very nature puzzle games are meant to be mysterious and that is no more true than with The Sojourn. It looks beautiful, it plays out super smoothly and the audio kick hammers home the immersion that ensures you will keep getting dragged in.

For fans of the series and lovers of the genre, the combination of turn-based combat, intriguing puzzles, and exploration work well. Throw in a large amount of gameplay hours, plus the side quests, challenges and crafting and this is a game that will keep the ardent adventurer in clover.

DISTRAINT is clearly a story that wants to be told and while it’s not always successful in its endeavours, it does manage to successfully create a horrific brooding atmosphere to portray many dark human emotions.

From just looking at the title of the game you will know whether you’re going to love Bus Simulator on Xbox One or not. The gameplay is a slog at times, but the repetitive nature is also sort of soothing to the soul, with the missions bringing a bit of reason to why you are there and allowing you to continue playing in order to unlock things.

Himno is almost certainly one of the most relaxing games I’ve played, which might put some off, but it honestly shouldn’t as there is enough of a challenge here to keep a player happy in short bursts.

The visuals are excellent, as is the design and overall tone of the piece. There are moments where the gameplay becomes a bit tricky, and the logic required doesn’t always make sense, but it is very cheap and that allows you to take a gamble on it; it’s certainly well worth the asking price.
