Its charming story and characters keep you smiling as the game continues to challenge you while its hidden areas and collectibles will keep you coming back for more. Whether you’re a fan of pinball machines, metroidvania or puzzle games, Yoku’s Island Express delivers class in every area for every type of player.

Repetitive battles are The Banner Saga’s biggest issue, but they don’t stop the enjoyment from what is otherwise a fantastic experience. Strategy and fantasy enthusiasts should find a lot to enjoy here. Roll on part two!

When we think of eShop titles, we want something to give us an experience that we've never had before. Super Daryl Deluxe does that in droves. A more fluid combat system would have got it a higher score, but this one comes well-recommended.

There's a lot of fun to be had with Immortal Redneck's clever blend of procedural room generation and tight-ish gunplay. It's ability to reward you the more you fail is a hard hook to jump off of, especially when there's a new adventure waiting for you each time.

Reviewing Suicide Guy was a complex one - it was a battle between the great ideas for the chains of events to complete the level, against the clunky and obtuse handling and controls. For that, it gets a score right down the middle.

It's more expensive than the Variety Kit and although initially more impressive, is perhaps even more niche and surprisingly suffers from getting old much quicker. If you have a burning desire to unlock your inner Optimus Prime and have £70 that you want to throw down, then you'll be impressed.

Mega Man Legacy Collection is a seriously comprehensive celebration of the classic NES series, with a total of six games and a healthy sprinkling of brand new challenges. The dip in quality in the latter titles hold it back from a perfect score, but this is otherwise an essential purchase!

Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 contains a good selection of titles from the series' later years. It's not quite up there with the first compilation because two of the four titles available here may not be to everybody's taste. However, if you're looking for a complete history of the core series, it's a fantastic companion piece to the first compilation.

It's clever, it's impressive and it's undeniably Nintendo. If you have children and a Nintendo Switch - and your children love being creative - then it's hard not to say it's essential. However, despite its undeniable charm, it's very niche, it's expensive and not for everyone.

I confess that the fact that the game is not open world has "turn-me off" a little, but nothing that prevents you from enjoying what the game has to offer.

South Park The Fractured But Whole is like a 20-hour episode of South Park. A satirical take on superhero films, it looks, sounds and feels the part - for the good and the bad. Essential for fans of the show, not for those that are easily offended. And absolutely not for kids!

Penny-Punching Princess brings an interesting slant to the brawler genre, one that sadly can become fiddly and repetitive over time. As a fairly expensive eShop title (physical release plans were scrapped at the last minute), it’s difficult to recommend a purchase here, given what you could get for your money instead. Penny-Punching Princess is certainly not a bad game, but it’s not a great one either. One to look for in the sales then, where your calculator allows.

Digital board games aren’t new, but Sumer shows how the format can excel in the context of a video game. There is plenty of depth that is aided by the fast-paced gameplay as you race to offer your sacrifices.

Sky Rogue successfully takes its namesake and provides a randomised structure that bypasses mundanity with a sense of challenge and surprise. Combined with immensely satisfying flight controls you’ll want to want to keep coming back to rule the skies.

Skies of Fury DX is an immensely enjoyable flight sim that maintains a good level of sustainability with a generous supply of unlockables. Strong gameplay and gorgeous visuals make this a must-buy for all Switch owners.

Infernium delivers a strong visual representation of Hell that bucks the standard trend in entertainment media. Sadly, the game also plays like hell with poor controls and frustratingly obtuse design choices.

Thud Card is a complicated card game with very poor instructions and a lack of interesting reasons to return to the game, it's hard to see anyone having an enjoyable time with this game and as such I couldn't recommend anyone going out of their way to try Thud Card.

Saturday Morning RPG is a wacky take on the genre with a setting that's never been seen before and a battle system that dares to be different. It's a little short which can be somewhat disappointing, but it's also a suitably entertaining adventure.

Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition is a fantastic hack 'n' slash title that brings together the best of the Legend of Zelda series and the Dynasty Warriors games. With plenty of content, superb performance and phenomenal gameplay, this is a must have title.

Toki Tori is a great puzzle game in its own right, only shadowed by its improved sequel. But don’t let that put you off. If you enjoyed Toki Tori 2+ then don't think that you'll be playing with an inferior version of the same game - but instead a different twist on the same core principles.

Gate of Doom is an old brawler that was born in the arcade era and hasn’t evolved since then. With its repetitive combat, blurry visuals, and unbalanced difficulty, it is a game that doesn’t hold well in our modern times.

Gal*Gun 2 was always going to be a game which only applied to a niche audience, and there's little to suggest that may be anything other than the case. Your average person would feel awkward playing this in front of friends or family members - so best to get it played alone. The Free Hugs Edition is impressive, though.

You can't fault Late Shift too much for what it is. I'd have liked to see a few more decisions on the table for a more hands-on role as the director, but given all the scenes that were filmed, it's impressive seeing all this bundled on a small screen you can take on the go.

If procedural generated dungeons filled with monsters is enough to satiate your desire for a new roguelike, then Bit Dungeon Plus may be a good choice. However, it doesn’t do much to differ from the most bland and standard roguelike experience.

Devious Dungeon is straight to the point. It offers a 2D roguelike RPG experience without any unwanted clutter. If you want a title that will keep you engaged and in the action, then make sure to give this a look.
