Super Meat Boy Forever makes changes to its predecessor which add to the difficulty but also serve to make things less memorable. There’s immense satisfaction in finishing levels, but bugs throw a dampener on the experience in places.

For series fans, it’s a no-brainer; this is the best version of No More Heroes to date. As a newcomer, despite a lacklustre open world and some incredibly dull grinding, NMH still held my attention with brilliant writing and memorable characters.

Coffee Crisis is an excellent take on the beat ’em up genre overflowing with 80s and 90s nostalgia and heavy metal, although it is a shorter experience than we would have liked. The humour and personality spill through to the point you’ll remember this one months down the line.

Though it doesn’t break the mold of point-and-click adventure games, and falls into some of the genres trappings, Nelly Cootalot does encapsulate what makes them so fun to play. Fun and entertaining characters really bring the story to life, and the voice acting is superb.

Jack n’ Jill DX is a difficult but enjoyable runner. You’ll feel like you’re playing the original Game Boy all over again.

Torna - The Golden Country is a solid expansion to an already great game. The community feature adds nothing to the experience, but the same epic combat is just as compelling as before.

World to the West is a lovely little adventure title that will immediately appeal to fans of Zelda games. Its lack of difficulty and repetitive gameplay can be a bit of a dampener on the experience, but this is definitely a game you'll want to check out.

Team Sonic Racing is a decent kart racing game that you’d do well to try out. It handles really well and, despite running at a mere 30FPS, looks pretty good for the most part. However, the team mechanic is entirely unnecessary to the experience, and the game just simply doesn’t match up to Nintendo’s own karting effort.

Wayout is a simplistic puzzler with charm, and a concept that is uniquely gratifying once the perfect answer becomes known to you. Although short on content, its low price is more than justified.

Three Fourths Home is an enjoyable visual novel which could have done without holding the ZR button down throughout the entire thing. The story is compelling and engaging, though it perhaps is lacking a satisfactory conclusion to match the build-up.

Simplistic and fun, Inversus Deluxe is definitely worth checking out, it's easy to learn and hard to master gameplay will keep you hooked as you go back to better your own or your friends' high scores. Multiplayer is also a riot, especially in a 2v2 environment.

Elliot Quest looks like a lost side-scrolling game from the NES area. Very nostalgia-driven, it takes form as a hardcore side-scrolling action game, which may be too for some tastes. Those up to the challenge, though, will be rewarded with a surprisingly deep game.

NBA Playgrounds is a game that is instantly playable - but the more you chip away at it, the more you're disappointed by the lack of content at release. It can be fantastic to pick up and play when you’re with a group of friends, but the lack of online multiplayer at launch means you’ll find yourself enjoying Playgrounds less and less very quickly.

I am Setsuna is an enjoyable and more than competent JRPG, which while weak in story more than makes up for this with a strong combat system and fantastic presentation.

Levels+ does exactly what it says on its digital tin; being quite literally an “addictive puzzle game”. The ease and satisfying nature of the gameplay make you want to keep going and the ability to take the Nintendo Switch with you wherever you go for short bursts of play justifies a purchase of this title slightly more than it would otherwise. Despite not having a wealth of features and not having improved that much from its mobile form, the Switch version is still the superior option and players who love puzzle games with a need for thinking strategically will consider this a sound investment.

Phantom Trigger is on the halfway between a true indie gem and a completely skippable title. It does have an entertaining hack n’ slash combat, but it falls short due to its repetitiveness. Its art style and atmospheric cyber-demon world is interesting enough, though, and may keep you hooked in addition to its surprisingly thought-provoking narrative.

Just Dance 2018 is an unremarkable addition to a tired series with little to entice returning players back into the fold. It's a shame such a large portion of the game is hidden behind a pay wall, but newcomers will nevertheless find plenty here to be getting on with for a while, particularly if you play in a party environment with friends and family.

Moon Hunters is more than the retro-styled action game that screenshots would lead you to believe, but it is also less than the personality test RPG that it sets out to be. A fun evening with friends could be had, but don’t expect to find a lasting experience.

Lichtspeer: Double Speer Edition is bonkers (in a good way), has a nice core gameplay mechanic and boasts a nice aesthetic style, but ultimately suffers from cruel difficulty spikes and repetition. Fans of seriously challenging gameplay will get some enjoyment from this, and with a fair amount of time and patience, others will find their way to the credits too. If you have a willing friend, co-op gameplay is definitely recommended!

Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas tries a little too hard to copy the game that clearly inspired it. While good fun to play, if a little easy in parts, I feel that if Cornfox & Bros had been a little more adventurous and set out on their own path, they may have found that this good homage could have been great game by its own doing. If you are a fan of the Zelda series, you will definitely find Oceanhorn enjoyable - just don't expect too much from it.

Snake Pass is a flawed experience - of that there is little doubt. But, for the most part, it’s worth your perseverance. I’d argue that the Switch version is where this game “belongs” the most. Having it available as a handheld experience which you can dip in and out of in short bursts plays right to the strengths of this game and, critically, avoids the frustrations which inevitably build up with any prolonged playtime.

If you're familiar with the Lego franchise, you'll know exactly what you're getting into here. Lego: The Ninjago Movie Videogame is a fun, accessible title marred with some bizarre design choices and some unfortunate technical issues. Nevertheless, it'd make a great present for the kids.

Minecraft: Story Mode – The Complete Adventure is the first adventure game from Telltale to come to the Switch. It is the ultimate package of the narrative-driven take on the famous block-building franchise. With an enjoyable D&D-like story, it is an enjoyable experience, in which your choices seems to matter - at least as long as you allow yourself to play along with the magician trick.

Violett is a pretty looking point and click title that does have its moments but is let down by poor storytelling and some strange design choices. Fans of the genre and newcomers alike will find the game to have a certain charm, but frustrations will creep in and I found myself appreciating the stalwarts of the genre even more by the time I saw the end credits.

It's cheap, it's charming and although short, may challenge you. If you are after something a little different, then you should give PAN PAN a look. In a growing library of indie titles, it's nice to have something a little different, even if only for a little while.

Flip Wars is a good bit of multiplayer that's fun in short bursts, and does offer something of a challenge to single players - even if the game itself is incomplete for the moment. It’s certainly one to keep an eye on as the features start falling into place, especially since you can expect Nintendo to support this one with content for months to come.

Beach Buggy Racing is a pleasant enough kart racer that does just about enough to make it an enjoyable experience. Although it can't compete with the behemoth that is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, it holds its own with the amount of content it has to offer at a budget price. There's enough here to keep you entertained, but don't expect to be swept off your feet!

One Piece: Unlimited World Red tries to be more than just a licensed brawler but unfortunately the RPG elements are lacklustre and can't help elevate the shallow core gameplay. Fans of One Piece might be able to find joy in the story present here and there's plenty of content to dig into for those having a good time but it's difficult to recommend this average game to everyone.
