Super Mario Galaxy is arguably the best game on Wii to date and is a must-have for almost everyone.

Absolutely brilliant.

It has all those essential elements that good games need, and all those elements are slightly less than perfect.

More than a game, it's an experience that cannot be missed. This is the masterpiece that is Resident Evil 4.

All in all, while Tears of the Kingdom isn’t perfect, it’s a classic maximalist sequel and it succeeds at that, whatever baggage or quibbles various players might bring to it. It was never going to supplant Ocarina of Time among that game’s diehards. Neither will it supplant Breath of the Wild thanks to how thoroughly the former wilderness has been tamed and signposted. After six years, something more revelatory or revolutionary would have been quite welcome, but in the end the worst I can say about Tears of the Kingdom is that it’s a very good game that earns its place in the Zelda pantheon.

Not only immersive, but addictive. Once quest has begun, it will be near-impossible to put the controllers down until Link and Midna have saved the day.

Tetris Effect: Connected came out as an eShop exclusive. I downloaded it at midnight the night it launched and played until about six in the morning. It was so mesmerizing and fun that I couldn’t stop playing it until I’d seen and heard every stage it had to offer. That might make it sound like the game is on the short side, but assuming most players take their time with the campaign, I can see it stretching out to six or seven hours to complete. Throw in the various modes and multiplayer, and Tetris Effect: Connected will keep players coming back to it for a very long time. I can’t recommend it enough—it’s a must-have for Switch owners.

It’s hard to imagine, but twice now Metroid Prime has proven itself to be a timeless work of art. First in 2009 when updated for Wii, and now in 2023 with Remastered on Switch. The storytelling, design work, and tight gameplay are as good as anything else produced in the last five years. This reworking is a glorious love letter to the original and the perfect way for contemporary and returning players to enjoy Metroid Prime. Now it’s just a question of whether or not Metroid Prime 4 can live up to this gem, and if we’ll eventually get Metroid Prime 2 and 3 Remastered. Go download this. Treat yourself. It is Valentine’s Day, after all. This is a game that’s easy to love.

Ocarina of Time 3D succeeds largely because it does not tamper with the original title, striking the perfect balance between old and new content.

While I won’t spoil specifics for such a new title, Silksong racks up one great boss fight after another. Lest you think I’m just a boss junkie, yes, Silksong’s atmosphere, enemy layouts, enemy AI, platforming, storytelling, audio, art, worldbuilding, and sense of humor are all great too. Even if I do think the scope of structure get in the way of its action game virtues from time to time, it’s still one of the best 2D games this decade.

Newcomers to the game who are accustomed to the current game generation may be turned off by its astonishingly short playtime and lack of "100% clear" bonuses, while veterans will find very little reason to pick up this version unless they're willing to pony up for the e-Reader cards.

Practice makes perfect and EA Sports is bloody well as near as it gets. All of the AI holes, specific playbooks and overall tight feeling of the game comes across as a polished and excellent version of the best sports game out there.

I haven't met anybody who hasn't wasted at least half an hour just running around outside the castle, sliding, jumping, stomping, diving, swimming... There are no enemies here and there's really nothing to do, but boy is it fun!

But at the end of the day, no other game offers the wealth of content for a mere $50; and if early indications live up to their potential, we'll all be playing Brawl for another six-and-a-half years.

The few flaws aside, the GTA franchise thrives on the system, with missions becoming more focused and a second screen allowing for easy PDA, or menu access.

Hades, with its fast-paced and occasionally unforgiving death mechanics, possibly isn’t a game for everyone. However, with its decently low price point and wonderful artwork and story, in combination with the amazingly well designed mechanics, Hades is a gem that’s hard to pass up.

It’s a masterpiece.

Hyper-intuitive gameplay, well-produced audios and visuals, and an extreme sense of style make for the greatest traditional fighting game of all time.

The moments where the odd discordant cadence make us yearn for times gone by come a little too often, even though it's by far the greatest testimony and most successful game to fulfil the promise of one-to-one motion control. It's an apt swan song for our little white console, but ultimately it's flown a little too close to the sun.

The new VFX system is something every gamer has been dreaming of and Capcom delivers with amazing detail and astoundingly smooth control. After only a year of waiting, Viewtiful Joe is not only everything you’ve been hoping for, it’s everything you didn't even know you should.

While it easily could have collapsed under the weight of too much content and a lack of direction, Ultimate is instead very cohesive and doesn’t treat a single bit of itself like excess. The only real question at this point is how Nintendo will ever be able to top this iteration of Smash Bros., but that’s a dilemma for another day— until then, Ultimate is, hands-down, a top-three experience on Switch that everyone needs to experience.

Minor complaints aside, it's great to see an enhanced version of Cave Story available on eShop. The stereoscopic 3D adds a little depth, which is nice, and the game controls as wonderfully as ever. But once again, choosing the best version depends on personal preference.

While said story may not live up to the expectations of most RPG fans, or fans of Super Mario RPG, it is far better and more interesting than the typical 'stories' you have to endure in a Mario game.

I have certainly enjoyed the NSMB games since their inception on Nintendo DS, but I must admit that Wonder had surpassed those games in virtually every way. I felt a sense of whimsy and joy playing Wonder that took me back to the days of Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World. The game is packed with secrets, filled with challenge, and entertained me for hours. The pacing, the graphics, the controls—this is a masterclass in game desing. Wonder has reconfirmed for any doubters out there that the Mario brand is still brimming with potential for new gameplay ideas. Wonder is an essential game for Switch players that is highly recommended.

Brilliant, stunning, the best thing on the GameCube since I dropped my soiled undies on it two months ago before I went to bed...It blows "Resident Evil" out of the water.

The controls are beautifully fluid, that is once you get used to them. The learning curve on this title is difficult, especially if you haven’t played an SSX title before.

The kind of game that sends reviewers thumbing through their thesaurus in search of new words to describe its greatness. I can honestly say that it’s as true today as it was the day of release.

There’s no question. You must play this game, at least through the field training. It’s just so amazing.

Even if you have never even played SMW, it's still fun to go out and play one of the games that truly defined the Mario franchise. This is a great game.

While the game might not be the greatest single player adventure we've seen this year, it very well may be the best multi-player one.

Best of all, the new Casual mode opens the series up to those who may have been put off by its characteristic difficulty, ensuring that newcomers and veterans alike will be able to get the same enjoyment out of Awakening’s storyline.

Once again props go out to Ubi Soft Montreal for meshing environments with an outstanding control scheme and stunning graphics.

Even four years later, the game remains a graphic marvel and is perfectly balanced in terms of gameplay.

This game needs to be in every Wii U owner’s collection.

Regardless of whether or not you have played Chrono Trigger before, the DS remake is an absolute must-own for any RPG fan and is easily one of the year’s best releases.

Another great thing about Xenoblade– it encourages experimentation. With most RPGs, falling in battle means a frustrating loss of progress and experience points if you haven't saved before a big boss battle. But with Xenoblade you return to the nearest landmark (or checkpoint) with all your experience points and new skills intact.

You will almost never get tired of playing Conker, as there are few tedious spots in the game. BFD terrifically spoofs such movies as "The Matrix," "Saving Private Ryan," "A Clockwork Orange," "The Untouchables," "Alien," "Star Wars," "Dr. Strangelove," and more.

Everything that made Mario Kart 8 special has returned and been amplified, and the additions (including new characters, plus one secret one that I won’t spoil) make for an even richer and varied experience. Along with Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is a must-have for Switch owners. It’s a party on a cartridge, but even played solo it’s a blast. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will be played in perpetuity for many years to come, and will do a wonderful job of tiding fans over until the releases of Arms and Splatoon 2 (something I had doubts about — yeah, those doubts are officially gone). You officially have two games that make a Switch worth buying, so get to it if you haven’t!

Quite possibly my favorite area of the game, the many boss battles each had a distinct feel and strategy to them.

The game told me I finished in around 4 hours, but I played for at least ten. With tons of hidden items, and five different endings, this game is sure to keep you occupied. Metroid Fusion is a must own title.

Besides the sound quality issues, players have little reason to choose the original cart over this GBA port. Everything that made Final Fantasy VI great on the SNES is here, and then some.

The game is short and let down by some noticeable issues, but beyond that, it’s a beautifully strange experience many will at least find interesting, with a fair few probably considering it brilliant.

While for the most part the tried and true Tony Hawk gameplay is still intact, this latest release in the series gives it a breath of freshness.

Bayonetta 2 doesn’t do anything particularly new, but it does serve as an improvement of an already excellent action title, perfecting the formula even further.

Put simply, outstanding.

The ultimate version of, what some perceive to be, the greatest action game ever made.

Its twisted levels beg to be replayed again and again even if you aren't interested in getting that perfect 100%.

The controls have also been polished, and GameCube’s controller is put to excellent use. The location of the Y button allows the gamer to press both A and Y, which makes grinding a lot easier, as the gamer must jump with A and grind with Y.

Quite simply the best Castlevania on the system, and an impromptu contender for best game – period – on the system itself. With link capabilities, a hidden character, and a bevy of secrets, Aria of Sorrow also has substantial shelf life and replay value.

Whether it be through design, story, or gameplay-– this solid title competes with some of the bigger titles we've played on some next generation systems.

SteamWorld Heist has always been a great game and the Switch version might just be the best way to experience it. Since it was originally designed on 3DS, the game is perfectly suited for portable play and the touch controls are replicated perfectly, here. Of course, it also helps that the core gameplay remains just as good thanks to great design and a unique take on the strategy genre that has yet to really be challenged by other developers. Thanks to these strengths and the incredibly charming and polished audio/visual design, SteamWorld Heist’s minor flaws are easy to overlook, thus making this version well worth experiencing for newcomers and for those who played previous versions.

An amazing accomplishment; it manages to root itself deep in the fertile nostalgia millions of gamers have for A Link to the Past while simultaneously morphing classic Zelda mechanics and introducing brand new ideas that fit in perfectly with the storied franchise.

It is darn near perfect in most ways, and the online mode adds more than it takes away. LAN mode racing is among the year’s greatest gaming experiences. You may well be looking at a contender for game of the year across any platform.

If you enjoy a true challenge and great depth in your games then you'll love Mario Golf. If you are an impatient ninny that finds "San Francisco Rush" to be a rewarding challenge then please go buy something else.

It has all the features you could ask for and more and the gameplay has been refined to near perfection. Then it seems, the only reason FIFA is consistently outselling ISS is the fact that EA have the FIFA license and Konami do not. Just don't let that put you off what is possibly the best soccer game on any system.

With additions like terraforming and crafting, the player’s capacity for expression and customization is greater than ever. Coupled with a huge array of neighbor animals to form bonds with, as well as activities to partake in, New Horizons will keep players busy for a very long time. Times are tough for many right now, but perhaps a trip to this digital world will be enough to offer some respite from the storm that is reality.

This game plays as good as it looks. Rayman himself responds perfectly to the analogue stick and it doesn’t take very long before controlling him becomes second nature, leaving you to focus your attention on the aweinspiring graphics and infinitely interesting environments. In fact, I can say with a clear conscious that Rayman 2 is absolutely THE BEST FORCED PATH 3D PLATFORMER ON ANY SYSTEM TO DATE. PERIOD.

The game might be something you can fly through quickly, but you'll enjoy every second of the journey.

Anyone who’s been holding out on buying a Wii U really needs to reconsider following the release of Wind Waker HD. What was already a masterpiece has become better than ever.

It is groundbreaking in every sense of the word, and successfully bridges that gap between the hardcore and the casual. A feat that is in no way easy.

This will give you at least 30 hours of gameplay if you're a Tony Hawk enthusiast. If you're strictly 100% polygons, stay away and grab the Cube version, otherwise grab this and THPS4 too.

An excellent game and a great value, but not perfect. It has many improvements, but one or two of the new features cancel out some of the strides forward.

If you like your games challenging, weird, beautiful, and a little unsettling, ANIMAL WELL should be on your must-play list.

Very intriguing, but nothing new. The game is fun, but unless you have time to collect every single object in the game, it can get old fast.

An instant classic.

While it isn't necessary a quantum leap over the PS2 version -- and while the game has its faults -- this is still a solid title that hardcore Wii owners will want to consider adding to their library.

By eliminating the time limit, adding more and larger areas, and littering the world with nearly 5 times the original's hidden treasure, Nintendo was able to not only lengthen the main scenario's play time (now roughly 20 hours), but also make the player feel more comfortable with exploring the Pikmin universe without the time limit constantly looming over their heads.

While it may not be quite the evolutionary leap forward that Super Mario Galaxy was, Super Mario 3D Land is still a vital installment in the long-running franchise.

I genuinely have no complaints about the Animal Crossing DLC for Mario Kart 8 and highly recommend getting this content, as well as the first pack if you haven’t yet, to expand on your Mario Kart experience.

While most shooters transport players inside a character's head, Corruption throws players inside the entire suit by giving the complex Samus realistic controls.

If you're not into platform games, it probably won't change your religion, but I can at least guarantee you that it's got a much lower crap-fest-purchase-risk-factor than any of the shiny new PS2 games you could drop 50 bucks on.

Resident Evil: Requiem is an utter triumph. It’s gripping and scary and thrilling in all the right ways. It’s a contemporary horror masterpiece that pays tribute to the series’ history while also marching it proudly into the future. Although it isn’t quite as pretty and smooth on Switch 2, Requiem is largely the same experience here that you’ll be getting elsewhere, and thus is a must-own for Nintendo fans. Definitely consider downloading the game today.

Beating each stage is pure joy, symbolizing our ascent beyond our childhood years– or perhaps how they stay with us constantly, only even more vivid than before.

Fun to play. Bottom line. The swing is so intuitive, so simple, it’s a wonder it didn’t come along sooner.

The only action racer you'll need for your N64. Put simply, this game is so good that it deserves your money no matter what type of video game you enjoy playing.

The game makes extensive use of a mechanic reminiscent of the best 2D Zelda titles and familiar sounding riffs feature in the music from time to time. It’s pleasing, and a significant achievement then, that none of this is at the expense of Guacamelee’s own identity.

Besides the slight easiness and linearity of the main game, there isn't much to complain about. There is an added bonus to this game in that the game actually has further story after you escape from Zebes, and the gameplay goes in a direction never explored in the Metroid series.

Like Ocarina of Time 3D, Majora’s Mask 3D is a must-play. It’s ironic that a game about time travel would prove to be so irresistibly timeless.

Its game play is just sick and that’s combined with some fine graphics and awesome off field depth.

Pikmin's simple, elegant design and compact structure redeem its brevity.

Skylanders SWAP Force may seem like a cash grab in some ways, but the game their figures belong to is just so charming and, well, fun, that this doesn’t really seem like an issue. The gameplay’s addictive, the figures are well-built– screw the haters. I’m a Skylanders fan.

Dead Cells likely won’t convert any roguelike detractors, but it’s a wildly creative and fun title nonetheless. Its game world, characters, and enemies all drip personality. The combat is fluid and gritty, there’s a ton to upgrade and unlock, and it’s easy to get lost for hours within Dead Cells‘ world. While a more prominent storyline and some memorable set pieces would go a long way towards elevating this to being one of the premier platformers of this console generation, Dead Cells remains a must-have. I can’t wait to see what Motion Twin does next.

Great visuals, great story, and great gameplay—it isn’t often that you get all three in a single game, but that’s exactly what’s on offer with Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade. This is an early, essential title for Switch 2 owners; an RPG for the ages that will be just as remembered as the original as time goes by. We strongly recommend giving Remake a download, especially as the launch of Rebirth on Switch 2 is just around the corner this summer.

A polished game that is a totally new experience for N64 owners. Capcom has done a great job with this RE2 port. My greatest complaint is the abbreviated length of this title and it's PSX derived control scheme.

It's deep, it's visually stunning in the fact that it has a background to judge the incredible speeds, and what is more, it controls so bloody intuitively that Amusement Vision was able to create some truly mindbending tracks with which to torture you.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury isn’t perfect, but it gets close. The gameplay is superb, the visuals are improved on Switch, and there is so much to do and see that players will be busy for hours. Switch has been a godsend for software that didn’t get the shot it deserved on Wii U, and 3D World is definitely a game that more people should play. Online multiplayer is a tad lacking, but if you’re out for an expertly crafted, stunning platformer, this is the premier Mario game on the console.

The postman often getting in my way in running around Hyrule Town was a minor annoyance.

If you're a "Madden" fan you are definitely going to love owning this game. It offers a faster play clock, fast pace, more action, and a lot less emphasis on possession and clock management.

Nicalis did a fantastic job of turning one of the best indie games of all time into something Wii owners could be proud to download.
