Ascension might be a prequel but it's far from a step behind in the relevance of God of War. Instead it is a necessary evolution that builds a better future for the franchise. Its half baked multiplayer could benefit with further balance and better objectives but putting that aside, the story is as tradition dictates an epic tale of vengeance, blood and loads of action. Despite the glorious combat and top-notch graphics, we can avoid feeling disenchanted with a toned down Kratos, but after all it comes with the logic of this being the beginnings.

Mechanically flawless but lacking in content, Street Fighter V is still the cream of the crop of the fighting genre, but those looking for a complete product may be best advised to wait a little for more game modes, fighters and content.

Charlie Murder is an extraordinary beat'em up that will offer you endless hours of action filled and fun gameplay. Its extraordinary soundtrack will submerge you in an apocalyptic punk world ravaged by the forces of evil and your mission is to send them back to the Netherlands. Ska Studios outdid themselves and created some of the most memorable characters in this genre's history.

Without a doubt, the best thing about this remake is its presentation, which has been carefully crafted. We feel completely satisfied about the way the developer managed the difficulty of the game: the last level of the remake was more demanding than any of the original levels.

2033 Redux is the definitive version of the 2010 misunderstood cult title. It now gives players the option to play it their way with the new Spartan and Survival modes, which will broaden its thin audience.

The distinctive feature of MGR: Revengeance is the Blade mode. Platinum Games surpassed themselves with the development of the mechanics on this is game: the cuts that you make with Raiden's katana will be extremely accurate, your enemy's limbs will detach right where you aim just like a piece of ham that was put through a slicer.

Playground Games newest addition to the open world racing genre is everything you can expect from a game that belongs to the Forza family. It’s easy to learn due its granular design, yet it provides deep tuning tools for the connoisseur. Despite its numerous and solid online systems that feeds its communities, the series feels like it has forgotten its competitive roots. Despite this, Forza Horizon 4 invites you to take part in its copious amenities and, in the end, the experience feels like your own, as long as you do not demand too much from the multiplayer.

Although controversial, the decision to swap the single-player campaign for a popular and alien game mode shows a complete evolution in the franchise as it consolidates as one of the freshest installments in the series. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 has the real potential to make jaded veterans return to a game that feels different, fair and requires skill and, at the same time, is supported by two gigantic modes that are addictive and fun to play.

Dragon Quest Heroes II is a great improvement compared with the original game. It offers a very enjoyable hack-and-slash experience, one that rewards experimentation with the characters and its abilities. Even with some pacing issues, this love letter to the fans keeps the essence of the series and gives it a new purpose with the help of impressive visuals.

Hopefully, this is the beginning of a new stage of success for the franchise and if this is the path they will take from now on, we welcome the proposal of Konami and PES Productions with open arms.

FIFA 17 represents the most notorious improvement of the franchise in recent memory. Octopath Traveler is the magnificent missing link between pixels and polygons. It is game full of nostalgia with an incredible art direction, deep and addictive combat, a soundtrack worthy of the Squaresoft legacy and a lengthy although somewhat disjointed story line. If you are an old school player that enjoyed a classic JRPG , this game is definitely made for you and you will appreciate immensely. If you are new to the genre, it is a great opportunity for you to get to know turn based combat games, pixel art, and understand what all the fuss is about.

Mario & Luigi: Dream Team continues the innovation of the cherished RPG franchise, even though this isn't its best exponent. The game's formula has been refined, but some of its aspects could have been better exploited. The script is solid but it doesn't compare to the hilarious material that we've found on previous installments. Nevertheless, the game joins the long list of must have titles for the Nintendo 3DS.

Rayman Legends does not offer a real revolution for the platform genre, but it proves that there is still room to be creative and to develop fresh ideas. Unfortunately, even though the game tries to be innovative in different ways, not all of them were really successful. This might not be a game changer, like Origins, but it is a nice continuation of the aesthetics and game design proposed by it.
