Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is utterly magnificent. Newfound vertical freedom, extraordinary new monsters and native 3DS multiplayer makes for the best game in the series to date, coupled with a much more compelling storyline and some killer new features.

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is one of the best games in 3DS history. It has a powerful online multiplayer, lots of monsters and some new mechanics that make the franchise climb one more step in the evolutionary chain.

While Monster Hunter 4: Ultimate is still Monster Hunter (and thank goodness for that) Capcom has put a great deal of effort into improving the overall experience, and I'd say that their revamp has been a wild success.

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is the pinnacle of the series thus far on the handheld platform as long as you are a fan and able to overlook the repetitive nature of the game.

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate finally hooked me into the entire Monster Hunter series. I now understand why this franchise has so many die-hard fans, and I get why hundreds of hours are spent roaming the hills and deserts looking for new prey.

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate takes the best the franchise has to offer turns it up to 11. More quests, more areas to explore, more items to collect, more items to craft, more weapons to choose from, more combat techniques, and more ways to play with your friends. This game will be a must have for fans of the Monster Hunter franchise but may do little to move the needle for players that are not already interested in the series.

The great aspects of the game are crushed beneath the monumental weight of it's frustrating gameplay. While some of this pain is eased by the multiplayer, it isn't enough to make up for the fact that the game just shouldn't have been released on the 3DS. This is a console game trapped in a handheld body, and it's really a shame that a game with so much potential is limited by such small but ever-so-important design problems.

This game is by far the best Monster Hunter. It's more refined, polished, expansive, and it still stays true to it's roots. Veterans and newcomers will both be satisfied with it's changes, as it's much easier to play than the other Monster Hunters, but still offers more difficulty than MH3U, especially post G-Rank.

Taking out water combat and adding vertical combat into it's formula was a huge success, and adds yet another strategic element into the game.

It really is a masterpiece this time, just like MHFU.

Great mechanics, none of the new goofy hunter arts introduced in generations, an incredible amount of content, and streamlined interfaces which make doing all the normal tasks just a bit easier. This game is a seemingly endless source of enjoyment and excitement - much more so than generations. Monster hunter is not for the feint of heart, but once you have the mechanics down... Expand

If there's one game to get in 2015, it's Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate!

Having played Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, I welcome this new version, which mercifully removes the horrible underwater battles and replace it with climbing, jumping and mounting monsters!!! I played 100+ hours on MH3U, but after just 10+ hours, boy I can see myself playing even more MH4U due to its much more fun gameplay, seamless online multiplayer gaming, beautiful graphics and of course, the crazy as monsters! I'm glad I took the time to learn MH3U so with MH4U it's a lot easier for me to just pick up and go.

There is SO much replay value, and hunting the same monster species feels different each time because of the monster AI, location where it is, etc. The new weapons (my favourite being Insect Glaive, having used Long Sword in the past) are just super fun to use. And of course, I often get hit by the monsters as I get distracted on trying to mount them...! Fun fun fun!

If you haven't tried it MH4U is actually much more newbie friendly in that it guides you through most of the stuff so you don't fumble (like in MH3U). Get on the hunt and see you online!

If there are any negatives at all I'd have to say that the camera is still a bit of a hassle to deal with, even with the (not so great but okay) C-stick on the New 3DS. Unfortunately the game also lacks a few great monsters from its previous installment and I'm not sure we really needed another weapon based on the concept of morphing, but those are just nit-pickings and any MH fan will have a blast with this game no doubt.

The game also features much better tutorials than before so it's a good time for newcomers to get into the franchise.

This game has a ton of content to keep you busy. The online multiplayer is addictive. And there's enough variety of Monsters and Weapon Types to keep you busy for hundreds of hours. The only major drawback is the controls can feel clunky at times. Having the circle pad pro or New 3DS XL C-Stick is a must. And the game can be daunting for newbies. Overall this is the best Monster Hunter game in the series. Expand
