-
Feb 10, 2015At the end of the day, we give Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate our highest recommendations based on our experience with it, which has been thoroughly outstanding already in the short time we’ve played it.
-
Feb 10, 2015Its high level of difficulty means that this remains a franchise not suited to everyone, but its sheer quality means it's infinitely deserving of being given a chance. Take the plunge and allow yourself to be absorbed by the ride - it's well worth it.
-
Feb 10, 2015Addictive, fun, and remarkably exciting.
-
Feb 13, 2015Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is the best Monster Hunter game ever.
-
Feb 13, 2015The essence of the original game is still intact and the makers try to make this game easy to understand for Monster Hunter newbies too. The fights are a blast, the deep crafting system feel like progress and taking down a monster in multiplayer is very satisfying.
-
Feb 10, 2015Monster Hunter lands on Nintendo 3DS with online play, dozens of new creatures, new weapons and hundreds of hours of joy. A game that takes full advantage of 3DS's technical capabilities.
-
Feb 9, 2015Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is one of the best games in 3DS history. It has a powerful online multiplayer, lots of monsters and some new mechanics that make the franchise climb one more step in the evolutionary chain.
-
Feb 10, 2015Yes, it's more Monster Hunter, but that is great news. Epic battles, the same old fun and lots of content make it another great episode in the series.
-
Feb 10, 2015MH4U is a milestone achievement for Capcom’s unique series. It looks, sounds, and plays better than ever, belying the fact that it’s running on a handheld and not a home console.
-
CD-ActionApr 30, 2015You won’t even notice that you’ve already spent dozens of hours with MH4U and you will understand why whole Japan is addicted to it. A strong candidate for the best 3DS game. [05/2015, p.75]
-
Nintendo Force MagazineApr 20, 2015It's downright exhilarating. [Issue #14: Old vs. New – March/April 2015, p.74]
-
Mar 10, 2015Everything that’s been done before has been polished to near perfection, the bar has been lowered to make things more accessible, and there’s enough new content here to keep gamers coming back for more. There’s really no excuse not to pick this one up.
-
Mar 2, 2015Monster Hunter 4: Ultimate offers the most complete experience in the series to date.
-
Feb 27, 2015Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is the best game in the series by far, sporting some welcomed additions and improvements. Ultimately though, whatever complaints there are are minor, as this is probably one of the deepest games you’ll find on the system and one that will have you playing for hundreds of hours.
-
Feb 26, 2015This is probably the largest, most complete and best Monster Hunter game ever created. Beware of the high difficulty though.
-
Feb 24, 2015The only question you need to ask yourself is: do I need another addiction?
-
Feb 19, 2015Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is the pinnacle of the series thus far on the handheld platform as long as you are a fan and able to overlook the repetitive nature of the game.
-
Feb 18, 2015This is the best iteration of the game so far, but your mileage may vary depending on what system you are playing it on. The experience was far better on the New 3DS, and those who liked the underwater battles of Monster Hunter 3 might bemoan their absence here.
-
Feb 18, 2015I highly suggest it to 3DS owners looking for a complex series that can last them well over 100 hours. There’s nothing else like it on the system.
-
Feb 17, 2015The best entry in the Monster Hunter series. Hunting is highly addictive and the satisfaction after beating the next beast is simply priceless.
-
Feb 14, 2015Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is not only the best portable entry in the series, but quite possibly the best installment, period.
-
Feb 12, 2015Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate feels right at home on the 3DS. The segmented environments are perfect for gaming on the go and the game's addictive item creation is perfect for bringing wherever your travels take you. The number of unique creatures to hunt, expansive number of items to collect and craft, and strong multiplayer experience make for a must-play experience on the 3DS.
-
Feb 10, 2015Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is the perfect fit for portable play, allowing you to devour piled-platter entrees or saucer-sized appetizers.
-
Feb 10, 2015A myriad of a game. One of the best reasons to acquire a New Nintendo 3DS console, though the game is perfectly compatible with the current versions of 3DS systems.
-
Feb 10, 2015Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is the definitive entry point for the series, and the most finely tuned multiplayer game on the 3DS yet.
-
Feb 10, 2015Exactly what fans of the series will expect it to be. If you have played, and loved, other Monster Hunter games before this one, stop reading reviews and just go buy it. You will love it. If this is your first Monster Hunter game I definitely recommend picking it up.
-
Feb 10, 2015Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate doesn’t offer much new above and beyond its predecessors, but it perfects so much of what they tried that it becomes undoubtedly the best in the series, and puts itself amongst the best games on 3DS as a result.
-
Feb 10, 2015Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is, hands-down, the best installment in the Capcom Saga. The game improves basically every gameplay element that long-time fans know and love, and it's the first title to really show the capabilities of the New Nintendo 3DS. A must have.
-
Feb 10, 2015All in all, it’s an essential entry for both new and returning hunters, and another vital exclusive for Nintendo’s 3DS.
-
Feb 10, 2015Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate brings an enormous amount of content that will easily break the scale of longevity for many players. Offering high production values, a very methodic and in-depth combat system, as well as an excellent multiplayer mode, this is a game that cannot go unappreciated by those who appreciate a good adventure.
-
Feb 10, 2015Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate might very well be the best chapter of the series. The vertical gameplay makes everything more interesting, all while keeping the unique hunt feeling of the series. There's lots of content (the normal game, plus the Ultimate add on) and the game is more accessible to newcomers. Beware, though, because we're still talking about a very taxing game, which might not be everybody's cup of tea.
-
Feb 10, 2015Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is the perfect way to start playing this popular franchise. It's way more accessible than the previous episodes, but it still lacks a proper modernization. Some of its gameplay mechanics are too old for a modern action-rpg, but despite that it's still fun and entertaining.
-
Feb 10, 2015Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate manages to expand upon the things that people love about the series, while simultaneously making concessions to those getting involved for the first time.
-
Feb 10, 2015A more accessible adventure for newcomers this time around, but Monster Hunter Ultimate 4 still hasn't fully shaken off its outer armour.
-
Feb 10, 2015Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is about mastering a craft and being proud of it.
-
Feb 10, 2015A true portable blockbuster.
-
Feb 10, 2015While Monster Hunter 4: Ultimate is still Monster Hunter (and thank goodness for that) Capcom has put a great deal of effort into improving the overall experience, and I'd say that their revamp has been a wild success.
-
Feb 10, 2015Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is simply the most approachable and playable version of Capcom's action-RPG to date—but be warned, it still requires a hefty investment. If you're willing to take the leap, though, you'll soon understand why Monster Hunter has become such a phenomenon.
-
Feb 10, 2015Very few games can hook me in for 100 hours, but this installment adds enough new creatures, weapons, locations, and fighting moves to expand and reinvigorate my lust for the hunt.
-
Feb 10, 2015Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is the most ambitious and robust of the series, with new dimensions that refresh the franchise. Endless and challenging for experts, and at the same time accessible for beginners.
-
Pelit (Finland)Mar 19, 2015This is an entertaining action RPG in a semi-prehistoric fantasy world. Prepare to grind, though. A lot. [March 2015]
-
Feb 17, 2015Despite some familiar content, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is a powerful package of challenge, depth and variety which honors the quality of a franchise for the true hardcore.
-
Feb 10, 2015Don’t let the early learning hours and initially perplexing systems deter you; this is the best opportunity to find out what keeps fans coming back to Monster Hunter.
-
Feb 24, 2015Complex, sometimes unwelcoming (though less than in the past) — and utterly satisfying when you beat your way past the walls it puts up.
-
Feb 18, 2015At the end of the day, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate doesn't reinvent the wheel. It has more content, more polish, and more of the same gameplay that people love. It isn't going to convert anyone who disliked the formula, but it might bring newcomers into the fold.
-
Feb 11, 2015Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is probably the best episode in the Capcom series, even if we're talking about evolutions and not revolutions. It's also a very good ambassador for the New 3DS.
-
Feb 10, 2015Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate finally hooked me into the entire Monster Hunter series. I now understand why this franchise has so many die-hard fans, and I get why hundreds of hours are spent roaming the hills and deserts looking for new prey.
-
Feb 10, 2015Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is a huge exclusive for the new New Nintendo 3DS. A giant game, with a lot of content and enriched by some changes both in gameplay and in the structure of the game.
-
Feb 10, 2015For newcomers, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is the ideal starting place, with more accessible combat than ever, a vastly improved single-player experience, and some endlessly gentle tutorials. For veterans, the game’s less difficult introduction may prove less enjoyable at the outset, but some extremely fresh evolutionary steps ensure that those feelings are fleeting at best.
-
Feb 10, 2015Monster Hunter 4 has a lot of repetition and grinding, but succeeds at capturing the thrill of the big game hunt like no other game can. If you’re looking for a long-term game with plenty of loot to grind, quests to beat and bosses to kill, this is your game.
-
Feb 10, 2015I'm not going to lie and say that Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is the fully modernized, next-gen experience I've always wanted from the series. But it is a much bigger and more self-aware step forward than I expected, and far and away the best Monster Hunter game so far.
-
Feb 10, 2015While it often feels constrained by the platforms it currently calls home, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is a fantastic adventure that provides a rich amount of depth and challenge for both solo and team players alike.
-
Games Master UKApr 9, 2015Easily the series' best bid for mainstream success. [April 2015, p.62]
-
Game World Navigator MagazineFeb 17, 2015There is no doubt that a number of changes led to better quality. But to play Monster Hunter 4 with a comfort you should obtain the New 3DS. [Issue #195, p.85]
-
Apr 6, 2015Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is a pure holistic RPG mobile experience on the 3DS.
-
Feb 11, 2015It's the vastest and most accomplished Monster Hunter experience ever. It will keep the fans pleased, and probably will lure some newcomers into its net thanks to a improved accessibility in the gameplay mechanics.
-
Feb 10, 2015Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate takes the best the franchise has to offer turns it up to 11. More quests, more areas to explore, more items to collect, more items to craft, more weapons to choose from, more combat techniques, and more ways to play with your friends. This game will be a must have for fans of the Monster Hunter franchise but may do little to move the needle for players that are not already interested in the series.
-
Apr 11, 2015Underwater combat, despised by many, has thankfully been removed from this latest entry. [Issue#159, p.96]
-
Mar 16, 2015Monster Hunt 4 Ultimate is easier to get into than its ancestors, but is just as entertaining.
-
LEVEL (Czech Republic)Mar 10, 2015The best choice for the hunter inside you. Especially if you enjoy the hunting preparation itself and preparing the right tools and the right sidekicks as well. [Issue#250]
-
Edge MagazineMar 10, 2015Few games reward your investment in such exhilarating fashion. [March 2015, p.108]
-
Feb 21, 2015Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate’s accessibility and rapid early progression make it a deeply appealing Nintendo 3DS experience.
-
Feb 14, 2015It makes what was once seen as a generally console-specific concept feel decidedly at home on a handheld offering a wide array of gorgeous visuals, enhanced controls, and the highly sought-after introduction of online functionality.
-
Feb 13, 2015But if you can handle the constant exertion meter management, sharpen/recharge/reload your weapon while surrounded, and chase those damn beasts down on foot alone or with friends, you should be able to weather the storm of Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate.
-
Feb 13, 2015This game preaches to the choir - the hunting faithful will love it, everyone else, maybe not.
-
Feb 13, 2015A great addition to the series thanks to its impressive combat mechanics, its highly-detailed and locales, and its ability to be challenging, but not impossible to beat. Even though it still has some aspects I thought could be improved, it's still a game that I ended up enjoying way more than I initially thought I would.
-
Feb 10, 2015Monster Hunter 4: Ultimate is looking for a bigger audience in the West and does a good job toward that goal. However, the explanation is too spare and many parts of the game are boring. It is awesome hunting those monsters though.
-
Feb 10, 2015More accessible and more immediate than ever before, whether it’s a hit or not Monster Hunter 4 is definitely the best of the series so far.
-
Feb 10, 2015Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate for 3DS is a great game for people who already know and love the series, but has a steep learning curve for new players. If they invest the time though, there is a deep game here, that is a lot of fun in the co-op-mode.
-
Feb 10, 2015With a hunting ground expanded in every possible way, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is a wilder journey than ever, although some primal - if not archaic - instincts must still be tamed to enjoy such a deep experience. A real challenge for newcomers, but that's natural selection.
-
Feb 10, 2015Capcom’s execution isn’t always perfect, and the lack of quest variety may wear on some, but Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is just about everything it strives to be: a sprawling adventure full of charm, customization and a whole lot of monsters.
-
Mar 4, 2015The formula of Monster Hunter is still intact in the latest version. It is not a conventional role playing game with distinct leveling, it puts more emphasis on the progression of the player itself. Depending on one's preferences, the high difficulty is either entertaining or frustrating. The worthless camera will however make everyone unnecessarily angry.
-
Feb 26, 2015For newcomers, this is the game to start with, but the franchise does still feel a little exclusive with the mountains of text you have to read to get a basic understanding of how the game works.
-
Feb 13, 2015There is more of everything and it works as good (or bad) as always. But you won’t find an important ingredient: Fresh ideas.
-
Feb 10, 2015Monster Hunter 4 has a great game full of options, activities, and a vast world to explore and immerse yourself in living somewhere deep inside of it. And it will even show you these things. But its questionable design and control decisions suck all the fun out of it and make you feel every second of your time in the untamed wild.
-
Feb 10, 2015The great aspects of the game are crushed beneath the monumental weight of it's frustrating gameplay. While some of this pain is eased by the multiplayer, it isn't enough to make up for the fact that the game just shouldn't have been released on the 3DS. This is a console game trapped in a handheld body, and it's really a shame that a game with so much potential is limited by such small but ever-so-important design problems.
