    People like this game too much.

    I gave it a five because the creatures are well designed and beautifully animated.

    Otherwise it is repetitive, limited, unintuitive grindfest that will sap hundreds of hours out of your life doing nothing but murdering the same monsters over and over and over again.

    Unfortunately, HM4U is a large step backwards, removing excellent monsters from MH3, and bringing back many of the most annoying/worst from earlier versions without any real polish or update to animation, and refusing to port to a full console due to better market share on the 3DS. As a longtime fan, I expected this, but it doesn't make it acceptable.

    The changes to story, monsters, or gameplay were no real step in a better direction, although the makeshift WiFi multi-play online via 3DS does nod to a western world which doesn't do local multi as often or as easily as Japan.

    If you're new the MH Universe, start and end with the Wii U MH3U version. It's easily the best of all versions including in multi-player voice chat. Avoid this cheap attempt at all costs, and don't bother to waste your time on it's cheap vertical mechanics, which are a poor replacement for water areas.    … Expand

    This game has some great ideas and mechanics, but overall I have found it to be too much of a grind and more about "crafting" than actually killing things... The game could be great if you're into the crafting aspects, but for me its just not enough action. + the combat is extremely clunky and unfamiliar... I imagine it would be fine once you get used to it. The quests are    "meh"

    The quests are overall pretty repetitive and often frustrating when your objective takes a long time for such a simple task.

    I would maybe play this game again if I had friends that played it, but for now I think I will return it.    … Expand

    Monster hunter 4 shows how a long running series can still offer new experiences and either be an upgrade to its previous iteration, or a side-grade choice offering it's own advantages. In a day where modern sequels offer less than their previous installments and a boost in paid dlc: monster hunter 4 does the exact opposite giving a huge roster of mosters to fight, infact it is the biggestMonster hunter 4 shows how a long running series can still offer new experiences and either be an upgrade to its previous iteration, or a side-grade choice offering it's own advantages. With the bonus of free dlc being added to the game of a regular basis it only adds to amount of time you'll spend playing the game. It's only problems come from it trying new things. Like the "new" addition of multiplayer. Though it is better than no multiplayer at all, it still isn't as good as the online component found in MH3U's wii u port. Which is disappointing. As while voip on the wiiu/3ds was never that good, you can't even use text chat during a hunt, just some preset call outs that you can only customize prior to your mission. With all things considered though, this is a game that will last you a long time and offer more playtime than even smash bros. Just be sure you have the patience the game requires, not just for how the combat works and rewards you. But also for the few quirks this game tries to hide.… Expand

    This game actually added some new elements that never before and actually feel better for easier gameplay....but for those who want to buy this game got to keep 4 things in mind , first you got to know this game = no deep story , 2nd almost endless hunting for making equipment ( 1% drop rate items exist) , 3rd do you play multiplayer? (G-rank urgent shah dalamadur stop all unskilled soloThis game actually added some new elements that never before and actually feel better for easier gameplay....but for those who want to buy this game got to keep 4 things in mind , first you got to know this game = no deep story , 2nd almost endless hunting for making equipment ( 1% drop rate items exist) , 3rd do you play multiplayer? (G-rank urgent shah dalamadur stop all unskilled solo player from continuing their journey so probably you want connect to the internet and find someone to kill it for materials or further hunting) , 4th you are not super hero like dante from devilmaycry or frontier so dont expect you can fight the boss while flying like a boss or use some super power and most of the bosses love to use tricky skill making the game frustrating for newcomers , LAST AND AGAIN this game is not for everyone so think before purchase… Expand

    You won’t even notice that you’ve already spent dozens of hours with MH4U and you will understand why whole Japan is addicted to it. A strong candidate for the best 3DS game. [05/2015, p.75]
