With that said, Super Meat Boy is among the best in the genre in recent memory.

Forza Motorsport 2 is easily the best racer you can find on the Xbox 360. The driving physics are deep and accurate, and the online features are a blast. While the game has its foibles, it’s still a highly recommended racer for any driving fan.

The stability woes, a few clipping problems, and finite game boards do present some drawbacks to the game. The good news is that this game is so good you can forgive all that.

The game offers a smooth control scheme and even though I would have liked to have seen more powers in Joe's arsenal, its a blast to play.

Madden 2005 doesn’t disappoint, but it clearly doesn’t improve a whole lot from last year’s stellar version. It is still the best playing football game on the market however, and seems cemented in the idea of the “If it ain’t broke, don’t try and fix it” mentality.

Simbin has gone above and beyond my expectations on creating a game that sticks to real life as much as possible yet still remains fun to play.

Grand Theft Auto IV is a solid port, adding in some compelling features to reward PC gamers for their patience. However, they’re going to want to sit tight and wait for Rockstar to issue a patch to fix the game’s stability problems.

Empire: Total War isn’t perfect, and it can be tedious at times. On the whole, it manages to pull off everything you’ve ever wanted in an RTS, and delivers even more. Top honors.

Bar none, one of the most satisfying ice hockey titles to grace the PS2 console so far. It really does come close to perfection in everyway and that is saying a lot considering the fact that last year’s "NHL 2K3" was at the top of its game.

Each character model is so well done and I even found the cut scenes interesting.

Bethesda Softworks has fulfilled all the hype that the game has obtained. The game is not only brilliant, but also fun to play, and looks wonderful!

A resounding experience. It’s a charming and stunning game that should occupy about 20 hours of a gamer’s time with up to 50 hours of side-quests, odd jobs, and real-estate purchasing available.

Control-wise, NHL 2K3 is sheer perfection.

Good RPG’s are few and far between and while those addicted to eye-candy might not be as interested in these titles, they are fantastically addictive while maintaining a good plot and well-established battle systems.

I find myself comparing Brotherhood to Fable II; both are incremental releases to a pre-established formula, and both have a ton of ideas that are not implemented to the fullest of their potential. The difference is that what Brotherhood does, more often than not, falls just short of brilliance, yet even when operating at 80 percent Ubisoft has crafted a game far better than most others on the market, and the superb multiplayer puts it over the top.

This is my favorite multiplayer game of all time. If I had another child I would name it Ellis whether it was a boy or girl.

It controls like a dream, isn't overly complicated and has a random generator of where the zombies are each time you start the game over.

Left 4 Dead is a great multiplayer shooter with many elements that you won’t find in any other shooter this year. The co-op experience is unrivaled and the dynamic AI is an excellent design choice.

The graphical elements of this game are stunning. Not only does the track look amazingly real and retains the skid marks and wall scuffs, but shadows and pit crews are rendered extremely well.

Basketball doesn’t get any better than this.

DoDonpachi looks and sounds great.

A fantastic RPG game that not only lives up to its hype, but also far surpasses it by featuring some incredible gameplay, an engrossing storyline, and a huge amount of polish.

With its great innovations, high level of polish, and great level design and objectives - not to mention the load of customization options - I simply couldn't put it down.

The track design is so unique and so incredibly cool that you won't believe it at first. There are more twists, turns and thrilling surprises (both graphical and gameplay-related) that you'll be in a state of shock for the first 20 minutes of play.

If you’ve held out until now, this is your chance to play one of the best RPGs to hit in the past several years.

If it looks like a dream and plays like a dream this is the best dream I've had all year. The controls are solid and the arcade-feel just makes the Gamebreaker moves stylish and fun to pull off.

The most appealing aspect is the game's length. Hot Pursuit 2 is one of the longest racing games out there.

The Ballad of Gay Tony is one not only one of the best of the two episodes but it’s also one of the most awesome Grand Theft Auto games that is more than able to stand on its own. With a thrilling story that seldom sees a dull moment, you will find yourself going back into Liberty City and loving every minute of it.

The music does a great job of setting the atmosphere of the different dungeons and areas in the game. The only minor issue was a slight distortion on some of the voice samples in the game, such as Link's yell.

Sheer joy – a delight to look at, a treat for the ears and a challenge for the mind. This game is the sibling to an award-winning program, and will in all likelihood be continuing that family tradition.

A true tactical strategy game with enough combat scenarios and a great multiplayer feature fans of this genre will like.

The new teams are the big draw here. The game has been tweaked and seems to be a fuller experience.

Cave Story on the Wii can be recommended to fans of the original, fans of Pixel's other projects, and just about anyone that enjoys a challenging 2D game.

A thoroughly enjoyable, fast-paced adventure in a wonderfully rendered world. Guild Wars does a lot of things very right, including some of the best PvP in a current MMO, and does so with a flair and style that is addicting and a joy to play.

This is as close to a complete package you can get.

A strong title that pushes the genre forward while retaining much of its original appeal.

If you like slow-motion dives, guns blazing, the deft tuck at the end of the jump and the roll up to a shooting stance, the perceptible flash from the muzzle of a gun that pinpoints the position of the enemy, bodies flying backwards as bullets impact them, then you will absolutely love this game.

Takes stealth action and realism to all new jaw-dropping heights in this game that’s just too good to pass up.

The premier simulation golf game. Its intuitive swing system is more than enough to make this a really good game. But then the developers went and piled as much frosting onto this cake as possible.

Intense, amazing and spectacular gaming fun.

The only catch is that this is directly aimed at the hardcore crowd with a higher difficulty level, so casuals who are looking for a title focusing less on technical aspects and more on quick excitement may walk away disappointed.

Bigger, tougher, meaner, and more next-gen. Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow fills every part of the Nintendo DS's two-inch screen with new bosses, levels, and dozens of backdrops that are drop-dead gorgeous.

Hmm, let’s see: Incredible graphics, terrific sound, flawless game play and great multiplayer options must add up to a game that should be on any racing sim fan’s shelf.

Dead Space is a fairly linear affair that will take most gamers a little over ten hours to complete. However, it is one hell of a ride.

Rise of Nations revitalizes this genre because it blends the mechanics of real time and turn based strategy games into one. As weird as this may sound, the game does this flawlessly and expounds the gameplay a hundred fold.

This is a tough game to control, and has enough twists and turns to keep even hard-core fans of the genre involved and challenged.

Persona 3: FES will increase your appreciation of its storyline. The characters are great, the dialogue is believable (how’s THAT for an RPG!?), and if you enjoyed the gameplay last year, there are several new reasons to play through the original quest all over again.

There aren’t many baseball games I would call addictive, but this game is definitely one of those “need to pry the controller away from your hands” games.

One of those rare arcade racers that comes along every now and then and will tear you away from “real racing” games that you said you would never stop playing.

As good as the sound usually is in Battlefield, it's the worst aspect of the game overall.

I’ve played a ton of puzzle games before but not many of them come close to Lumines.

Tools of Destruction feels a bit short at times, but that is only when you are just driving through the game, going from point A to point B in the shortest route possible. When you take time to explore, you realize how expansive this game is, and how wonderfully designed.

This is the hot game to get for the DS. It's loads of fun, has huge exploration potential and reinvents the 2D side-scrolling platform game. Nintendo has another notch on it's belt to go with all the other notches that the DS seems to have.
