A new and highly virulent strain of the rabies virus emerges and spreads through the human population with frightening speed. The pandemic's victims become grotesquely disfigured, wildly violent psychopaths, attacking the uninfected on sight. One of the "lucky" few apparently immune to the sickness, you, unfortunately, are also trapped in a city crawling with thousands of the bloodthirsty Infacted. Together with a handful of fellow Survivors, you must fight your way to safety or die alone. A co-operative multiplayer action game from the makers of "Counter-Strike," Left 4 Dead is built atop the most advanced version of the Source Engine and introduces version 2 of Turtle Rock's artificial intelligence (A.I.) technology. Fast zombies? Check. Non-stop tension and intensity? Check. The quality of gameplay we expect from Valve? Check. When it comes to co-op multiplayer, Valve is consistently ahead of the curve and excellent at making games that force players to work together.
  2. Left 4 Dead's simplicity offers purity of gameplay - the same reason that gamers keep returning to classic arcade games. Come to think of it, with a handful of levels and unpredictable events happening within them, Left 4 Dead has more in common with "Ms. Pac-Man" than just the eating. It's the same thing over and over - but when simple ingredients are perfectly prepared, what could be a mere snack becomes a feast. This one just happens to be on human flesh. [Holiday 2008, p.32]

One of the finest zombie games ever made, and one of the finest co-op games ever made. The potential for everything to go so, so wrong without warning, or conversely to pull off the most spectacular escapes against all odds, means this is an online shooter you can tell your finest anecdotes about without boring everyone else to tears.
  4. All in all, Left 4 Dead is an amazing game, and I highly recommend it, but only if you are able to play online.
  5. When playing with friends, Left4Dead gives the best cooperative experience in gaming, hands down. Nothing compares. The game is lacking a bit in terms of content, and more weapons and locations would definitely add to the experience, but nothing can take away from the sheer enjoyment value. Valve’s newest might be one of their most masterfully crafted, and the attention to detail is impeccable.
  6. Between the tense campaign and the frenetic Versus mode, Left 4 Dead offers two distinct flavors of multiplayer action that are equally delicious when enjoyed with friends. The single-player experience (and the marginally better but somewhat sluggish split-screen mode) isn't as tasty, simply because the friendly AI can't compare to a human teammate.
  7. Yes, shooting hordes of zombies is fun, even more so with three other friends. But the game doesn't have anything to offer beyond that simple activity, and it most likely stop being relevant the moment someone makes a zombie FPS with a little more depth.

This game is just amazing, though it is pretty much that same 7 scenes you're playing over and over, the randomness setting of a.i.'s and such make it like a brand new match every time. Versus, Campaign, and other modes other than Single Player are a great way to keep my attention to the game getting to play with other. The game is just amazing, i play it like everyday and i can't imagine not playing this gem.

As a huge fan of zombies, and fast moving zombies to boot, Left 4 Dead seemed like a no brainer as an addition to my Steam collection. So IAs a huge fan of zombies, and fast moving zombies to boot, Left 4 Dead seemed like a no brainer as an addition to my Steam collection. So I pre-ordered, played the demo, pre-loaded, and the say I came out, I unlocked it and fired it up.

My first non-demo map I played led me into a farmhouse by a cornfield. The 4 of us moved to the second floor landing, where we were surrounded by doors. Suddenly we heard the screeching of zombie hordes coming from all around us, and for close to 20 seconds, that's all that happened, the sound just got louder and louder. Suddenly, one of the doors splintered and a gray, dead hands reached into the room with us, grabbing for living flesh. A second later, another door did the same thing, and they just kept coming. We all took a door and the stairs and started firing, chattering on the mic "Watch the door behind you!" "Holy shit there's a lot of them!" "Crotch down, CROTCH DOWN!" Finally the streams of zombies started to thin, and everyone took a breath. We made it.

Then the house shook...big time. That's when I fell in love with this game.

    Two words: Get it.

If the fast moving zombies coming from all directions doesn't scare you, then maybe the special infected that leave you helpless will. If the fast moving zombies coming from all directions doesn't scare you, then maybe the special infected that leave you helpless will. The hunters that pounce on you and force your [surprisingly helpful AI] allies to save you. The Boomers who vomit on you causing a hoard of angry zombies to maul you should have your other teammates circle you as you're blinded by the smile. Smokers will latch onto you and pull you away from the group and don't even get me started on the witches or tanks. Even on EASY this game can give you a thrill - and will all the different achievements you'd be sure to play the same level trying different tactics. I love this game and it makes me want to get xbox live just to play on expert with a few mates. Expand

The place where the game shines in in its co-op, up to four players attempt to survive this mini zombie-apocalypse. The simplicity of game play, accompanied with a simple awesome finish, make this a great game. AND I WILL USE AS MANY CAPS AS I WANT! lol; sorry there, but this is a great game. 9/10 Expand

However, it's one of the best 2 player games I have ever played. The split screen is done really well allowing you a good view of everything and the interaction between characters is good. I think it's worth saying that this is an acheivement driven game which will challenge you and frustrate you but all in all one of the best 1st person shooters I've ever played. Expand

Very well presented, makes you feel like you're in a zombie attack. The idea that each level is never the same is pretty cool too. My only problem is that it's just so short! There's lots of replay value, but even then it does get old. Very fun game though. Definably pick it up if you get the chance. Expand
