Star Fox Command is the odd game that finds itself being better in practice than theory. The distilled elements are fantastic but the inter-complexities don’t gel completely.

The most obvious addition to the gameplay is lead blocking control. This basically allows you to control another offensive player when the ball is snapped, make a block with that player, and then take control of the runningback. It takes a long time to get the hang of it, but once you do the results can be devastating.

The story is interesting and fairly epic, but told in such large chunks at a time, that sometimes the pacing is thrown off.

It has almost as many flaws as there are nights in the title but if you love mindless button hammering gameplay and salivate over the onscreen enemy count then this might be a title that interests you.

Prey is something of a paradox, because it’s got a ton of original ideas wrapped up in a package we’ve seen a dozen times before.

EA should be commended for creating a console control scheme that works well in real-time strategy games. But that doesn’t mean that this is the best way to play Battle for Middle Earth, or an Xbox 360 game for that matter.

All that saves Pirates on PS2 from completely walking the plank is Johnny Depp’s boisterous performance, the rare drop in co-op gameplay, and the fact that it’s always fun to be a pirate for a while. But as far as everything else goes...you’ve been warned.
