It can still look visually striking when viewed from a distance while its audio design, with a brooding electronic score, can also be wonderfully atmospheric. Sadly, it’s not enough to salvage a wholly disappointing experience that never reaches the lofty heights it begins with.

If you’re a die-hard fan of Deadlight, then you probably don’t even need to read a review to know whether or not to buy it, you’ll just do it anyway. For everyone else, this is an average game that has been surpassed in the years since it came out. There are far better 2D platformers available. You can give this one a miss.

It doesn’t instinctively do anything wrong, but the game is too simple and is missing too many additions that other videogames would consider standard and basic, like audio itself. There’s too much lacking inside the game to warrant a recommendation for anything more than a quick play.

Yes, having poo for a weapon is mildly amusing, but when there’s not that much substance to the game, the joke wears thin quicker than it ought to. It’ll be fun at a party after a few beers for an hour or two, but this isn’t a contender for the next big esport.

Pumpkin Jack is overall an alright game. Every aspect added to it wasn’t deepening the depths of the ocean, but rather lengthening the size of the kiddie pool. Many things were added, but it felt like an attempt to hide its lack of depth because of the terrible implementation.

The art was fairly pleasant and vividly detailed. I enjoyed looking at the scenery and characters as they were drawn well. But with the horribly painful interactions and long drawn out scenes of nothing that I had to force myself to get through, the art just didn’t make up for it.

The connecting of cards was rather fluid and the explosions worked like they said they would. I was a little confused on the points system, but I didn’t care enough to investigate further. If this was a flash game in the early 2000s on Newgrounds then it might have been worth a quick play for half an hour, but as a chargeable game on Steam, even at a rather generously budget price, I just can’t find enough to recommend it. It feels like a proof-of-concept demo that’s been released without adding the actual game to it. Playing The Lazaretto is a llot like playing through a lot of different haunted house games mashed together. With more supporting details and tension built up around these individual concepts, the creators may have had something actually scary, but blended all together the game feels unfocused, as if they thought just adding in this particular thing here mixed with a few jump scares would make an instant horror game.
