Using a cleverly articulated potpourri of genres, including Hip Hop, Drill, R&B and Electronic music, the player will be able to identify situations and act upon them in sync with the music.
Nittch is the protagonist of this story. A nihilistic and lonely boy who belongs to the lowest stratum of ANTRO, an underground metropolis built after the collapse of civilization. Your mission: deliver a package to an unknown recipient. A package that will be the key to revolutionize the world of ANTRO. Thus begins a long journey through the confines of the city, awakening the attention of "La Cupula", Antro's government, and revolutionizing its foundations.

When I started playing Antro, I didn’t have any idea what to expect from it. Antro certainly feels like a weird indie game, but as you follow the story and get engaged into its marvelous gameplay, its beauty unravels. I found myself playing it without wanting to stop, just seeing what challenges are onward and whether I can pass each level during my first try. Sure, it’s not a long game, nor does it need to be. Antro manages to tell its story in a way that’s memorable, with amazing Spanish music that seamlessly integrates with the gameplay. The game is innovative, while also bringing us the tried-and-tested speedrunning mechanics for a platformer. It’s quirky and weird, but in a good way.

ANTRO offers a unique blend of urban music, dystopian storytelling, and platforming action set in a dark underground Barcelona, with strong artistic and sound design that immerses players in its atmosphere. However, the gameplay feels somewhat imprecise and relies heavily on trial and error, and the very short duration leaves the player wanting more despite its creative ambition.

Overall, it all comes back to the length of the game. In spite of my own preferences, being a little over an hour is far too short and this length drags down both the narrative and the difficulty curve. What is here isn’t bad per se; there’s some decent world building, the levels toward the end are genuinely fun, and the vibes are fantastic. But they don’t compensate for everything else feeling rushed.

"Buying this album comes with a free game" is a line I’ve seen applied to many titles before, and usually when the foundation was solid to begin with. That’s not quite the case with Antro. Its platforming and rhythm mechanics still need fine-tuning, and while there are glimpses of potential, there simply isn't enough substance to truly assess its quality. Best suited for genre enthusiasts or those looking to support a small indie team.

Antro is a good soundtrack full of Spanish artists you should try out… that comes with a free game. Its message, while important, is played out like a song on repeat, and there isn’t much more substance past that. Just go get the OST.
