  • Summary: The Cleaner is a hardcore die 'n' retry inspired by John Wick, Hotline Miami and SuperHot. You control a highly-trained "cleaner" with a unique power. No cliche storyline, no cutscenes, start the game and play.

Die, and don't be afraid to die. The Cleaner will put you through a challenge.

Die, and don't be afraid to die. The Cleaner will put you through a challenge. One bullet is enough to kill you, so use your power of slowing down time to kill your enemies.

Reloading? Never heard of it, you rather just borrow your victims weapons.

    Good luck!

With a little more polish and player-driven feedback, The Cleaner could well emulate a proper first-person John Wick experience. However currently, it feels a little more like a frustration emulator designed to inspire rage quits.

When The Cleaner sticks to gunfighting and slow-mo sequences, it’s a winner, but the platforming and overly-long levels destroy everything it gets right. I want to adore this game and I was more than willing to meet it on its own terms, but it’s just asking for far too much — it’s frustrating to see how badly its flaws undercut the rest.

The Cleaner continues to punish you for not adhering to the pace it’s trying to dictate to you, a pace that it proudly preaches but makes little effort in practicing.

One could say the game concept is as vulnerable as your character. The straightforward gameplay can be refreshing under the right circumstances. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for the technical execution, which sets the game back a good twenty years. Outdated graphics, technical bugs, and poor character movement all drag the game down below the level of a quality product. [Issue#320]
