We may never be able to completely experience shooters on portable systems the same way we do on the PC or consoles, but Sony Bend has shown that making a competent and enjoyable portable shooter is not only possible but enjoyable. Without a doubt, Resistance: Retribution is a game that shooter fans will enjoy for a very long time and one that most PSP owners should play and add to their collection.

It’s obvious that the developers did not want to release just another GTA version for the handhelds and go for the quick cash but wanted to offer a high quality product for a handheld that desperately needs something else than just Brain simulators, Pokémon games and cross-dressing games. GTA Chinatown Wars is one hell of a game that deserves a place in your DS collection, especially if you’re a fan of the GTA franchise.

Unfortunately for arcade boxing fans, this is one title that’s down for the count by its own inability to move the series an inch forward. Instead, what most will see here is a disastrous attempt to relive past glories, and one that grievously displays how little effort was invested into making a worthwhile comeback.

Thanks to alternate endings, multiple plot paths, side quest, and the dark twist of sacrificing friends, there’s a lot here to keep you happy with hours of fun. Square Enix has introduced an interesting concept to their Valkyrie Profile concept and I hope they continue to think outside the box when it comes to re-imagining their franchise games.

Bit.Trip Beat is my favourite reason to turn on my Wii recently and is a great showpiece to bring out at a party or when friends are visiting. The controls can be a little intimidating and it’s easy to get frustrated but it can also be really addictive. Bit.Trip Beat is a cheap, beautiful looking game that encapsulates what WiiWare should be.

Resident Evil 5 is a Resident Evil game which is trying to be an action game while keeping the old survival horror feeling which the franchise is known for. While it worked with Resident Evil 4 to a certain point, the next-generation evolution of gaming forces developers to retool their original visions in order to deliver something to remember. Resident Evil 5 tries constantly to remind us it’s still a Resident Evil game but all I saw was a very restrictive, slow and totally emotionally broken action game.

I have to say that I was hoping that Uprising would have been the third Real Time Strategy game which I could absolutely love this year but it has left a bitter taste in my mouth. This is an expansion only for those who are die hard Command and Conquer Red Alert 3 fans who are looking for more single player fun but do not expect the same level of quality as the original Red Alert 3 had.

There are many reasons why Peggle is a must own but the best has to be the sheer number of hours you will put in playing this. PopCap knows how to make some insane crazy addicting games and to be sure this is their best.

Regardless of the decent strategic elements that Crystal Defenders offers, the fact that there is no story, any sort of progression or reward makes this a hard game to recommend to anyone. With so many other quality tower defense games available, you would have assumed something set in the Final Fantasy universe would have given gamers a better experience rather than something so completely basic.

Madworld is an absolute wonder on the Wii. Packed with a fantastic visual style, simple but effective controls, and a healthy dose of humour, this is almost a complete package. Diminished focus on the story, and some minor camera issues aside, this should be on any fan of mature game’s "must have" list.

While Scene It? & Buzz! have delivered the first taste of serious trivia games on consoles, Trivial Pursuit pushes the whole concept further by offering the most complete and challenging videogame based of a board game on the market as of now. Yes, even if the game doesn’t support online play, it remains a great game.

This new expansion makes it easier to get in to the game, but it is still a gigantic learning curve for some people and that is my only gripe as people without patience will not play it so you may be forced to find in-game friends to play with. This game was a must buy for MMORPG fans who are looking for a truly deep and expanding space based science fiction universe and after spending the last couple of weeks with it again I have to say it is a better buy today.

If you loved Pikmin and are dying to play again you could probably find a copy way cheaper on the Gamecube (which you can still play on your Wii through backwards compatibility). However, if you’d like to give the new controls a shot, they make the game a little easier to control and for $30, it’s not going to prevent you from checking out some other new games as well.

For anyone who already owns the Gamecube version of Mario Power Tennis, there isn’t anything new here to justify another purchase unless you’re really looking for an alternate control scheme. That said, newcomers to the series are getting a great game for a fantastic price. Game, set, and match: Nintendo.

At $20 dollars/1600 MS points, the cost is too high for a roughly 3 hour experience, slightly longer than the film. The story is good and the action is fun, but the repetitive gameplay and lack of replayability make this a really hard game to recommend.

For those of us who are fans of the Halo series this is a great game to play and have to further explore the rich Halo universe. But for those people looking for a deep strategy experience should look elsewhere because this Real Time Strategy title is not your standard RTS but more of an action game with some RTS elements added in for flavor. A must buy for anyone who likes action games, Halo and playing with their friends.

All Strategy fans must own this game even if the setting is something they do not enjoy. This is the closest thing we have seen to a perfect game in ages on the PC and this is one game I will not take off my PC until another Total War is released… and then only maybe.

In spite of its faults, there’s a lot to like about Sonic and the Black Knight, provided you’re not holding a candle for games long since past. Sonic’s trademark speed is still there, and while the level designs are simpler than they were in the past, there’s still enough fun packed in here to be worth at least a weekend of your time.

While the balance board controls are actually well implemented this time, there’s no doubt in my mind that the game could have been so much better for those who like more complex, complete and challenging sports games on the Wii. On the other hand, Namco Bandai clearly wants to go after the younger crowd and the rest of the non-gaming masses and make them play without caring about other stuff than having fun. We Ski & Snowboarding has very little incentives to make hardcore gamers spend hours playing the game but newcomers will sure appreciate it.

There’s more good than bad in MLB 2K9. While the experience has been brought down to a certain level of easiness, there’s still a lot of things that make the game frustrating and tiresome. MLB 2K9 is a great improvement over last years’ game and made me want to spend a few quality hours on it. Sadly, making a “baseball game for dummies” won’t make the games better if they keep changing the recipe and trying come up with ways to be the big boy in town…I think this is what hurts the game the most.

Without any doubt, MLB 09 The Show is a great improvement over last year’s version. Sony’s baseball franchise is setting its stronghold as the real deal in terms of baseball simulations as the gap between them and 2K keeps getting bigger year after year.

Overall, weak production values hurt a game that had a lot of potential. Hardcore RPG fans will find something to enjoy but won’t get overly excited about it, while the average gamer will find this game to be interesting at first and then the tedium will set in. Clearly, if you like RPGs this is worth a try but otherwise I would pass on this one.

Four years in the making and while we could have expected a bit more from Guerilla Games, Killzone 2 is THE game your Playstation 3 has been waiting for. While it doesn’t redefine nor re-invent anything in the FPS world, Killzone 2 delivers the excitement but most of all the beauty no gamer has ever seen before.

While Eat Lead tries its hardest to be a funny game, it never manages to stay funny long enough to be enjoyable. Thanks to the game’s weak enemy AI and frustrating shooting and cover mechanics chances are that you won’t invest the time to see what happens to Matt. This game has Bargain Bin written all over it and even then, I would be hard pressed to recommend it to anyone.

We have to applaud independent developers and publishers when they release a game like Stoked. It clearly shows once again that it doesn’t have to be extremely pretty, uberly complicated and filled with tons of crazy modes and unnecessary options. Instead it delivers the deep and rewarding gameplay fans of the genre want.
