Even though it suffers some shortcomings when it comes to signature moves, or the overall sound department, Top Spin 4 is blessed with a pretty solid gameplay. Accessible and fun, it remains realistic as well with a huge career mode, and ranks up as the top title of the franchise to date.

UFC Undisputed 2010 is far more than a big update, despite its little flaws (most notably its disappointing online mode). The game is incredibly comprehensive, much more fluid and well animated than the previous one, and will undoubtedly please MMA fans. Granted, the gameplay may not be a revolutionary one, but it is substantial enough, and quite technical (maybe too much, some might say), to last you weeks and even months. If you thought the 2009 version was efficient enough, simply think about the 100 fighters of this 2010 one, and you will probably fall for it.

Blasphemous 2 is a success. If you enjoyed the first journey, you'll love this new pilgrimage. And if you're a first-timer, don't panic - you don't need to have played the first game to try this adventure. Blasphemous 2 stands on its own. Part Metroidvania, part Souls-like, the game takes the best of both worlds and builds its own personal mechanics in the process. The result is more than convincing. The gameplay is accessible but demanding, the difficulty is present but not insurmountable, and exploration is a pleasure, even if it's easy to get lost. There's no doubt that Blasphemous 2 is a rather striking game, if only for its proposition and its universe, which deals with mythology and religion in a way that we don't often see. The resulting art direction and bestiary are also top-notch, despite a few repeats from the first episode. The whole thing is bathed in an ear-watering OST and boasts top-notch pixel art. Whether you're a lover of the genre, a fan of the licence or just curious, go for it.

Assassin's Creed III might not be as revolutionary in itself as the historical period it covers, and it still has some shortcomings that may annoy old timers of the series and newcomers alike, but its generosity, the unbelievably high quality of its writing, particularly the character of Connor, the political and societal questions it weaves into its Templar / Assassins storyline, and the overall generosity of its content more than make up for it. It may feel constricted inside our current hardware, but manages nonetheless to push back its limits, combining the proven formula with new gorgeous elements both in the solo and multiplayer aspects.

Pretty, dense, nerve-challenging, immersive, innovative... Outland is easily one of the gems of April 2011. Combining with talent several influences (Limbo, Castlevania, Ikaruga), it goes back to the rules of 2D platformers, with an added twist. It's an enticing tribal journey, with a soul, at a small price.

If it's not a port that changes a thing, it's still a pleasure to be able to play Bayonetta anywhere, anytime, as it's one of the best beat-them-all of all time. Not a flawless one, but indeed a lovable one.

Rayman Legends didn't age at all. It's still one of the most well-crafted and most gorgeous platformers you can play today, alone or with friends. But with only a few additions that don't change anything compared to the other versions, we can say we don't really understand how it feels "Definitive".

This first Mega Man X compilation might seem a little short on content, but the pleasure to play through Mega Max X1 to 4 might be enough for most gamers of the 90's. With a wide museum gallery and some interesting bonuses, this collection just fail to deliver new strong modes, even though the newcomers will be more than pleased by the Rookie one.

Gears of War fans can finally breathe a sigh of relief: Gears of War 4 is truly a worthy sequel to the first trilogy. The Coalition managed to create a game that is both faithful to what made Gears Gears all the while adding new gameplay ideas and expanding the GoW mythos.

Halo 5 : Guardians is undoubtedly a game worthy of the Halo name. Its campaign opens an interesting new page in the Halo saga and its gameplay is, as always, on point. The game also benefits from the addition of the Warzone mode, a fun new twist on the classic Halo multiplayer experience. It really is too bad that local coop/multiplayer was taken out.

Rise of the Owlverlord is a nice addition to the first Giana Sisters game. The excellent "twist" mechanics are quite the same, the difficulty is more balanced and we have 6 new levels and 1 boss for less than 5 euros/dollars.

FM2012 will be delightful to its usual fan-base, by betting on its traditional qualities and strengths. By fine-tuning its simulation on details that matter, Sports Interactive clearly targets purists, all the while risking to lose the newcomers. For the fans, Football Manager 2012 is a success, but others will probably be put off by this demanding experience.

With Assasin's Creed Valhalla, Ubisoft tries to synthesize a decade-long series, thanks to clever adjustments on its RPG rhythm. With a brilliant lightning, the game visually stands out on Xbox Series X, and offers a more flexible adventure as well as a real stable narrative. Rich, dense, but also time-consuming, Assassin's Creed Valhalla still is a good run, thanks to its historical setting and beautiful landscapes.

No More Heroes 2 : Desperate Struggle is a journey of its own. Blessed with solid and enjoyable gameplay, Grasshopper's title draws the player into a furious whirlwind of violence and madness, complete with references to wrestling, moe, and cult movies. Diabolically orgasmic. NMH 2 universe is an otaku's dream world, with unlikely bosses, and an enjoyable bad taste, that will make you forget about the technical shortcomings of the game and place it among the classics of the Wii.

Dirt Rally 2.0 is as good as it is demanding. He can satisfy his user on the condition that he is well aware that it will have to drive and drive again to get to enjoy time and grazing the obstacles of a very narrow road. This is what best summarizes Dirt Rally 2.0: A narrow, exhilarating and unforgiving road.

If you liked the first episode, this one won't disappoint you. The formula created by Telltale works wonderfully. Fear, blood, proven game mechanics, and consequence-heavy decisions, all wrapped in a beautifully polished atmosphere supported by a captivating storyline. Quite enough to nullify its little shortcomings.

Killzone 3 shows a great variety, both on the environments side and the gameplay side, while respecting of course the DNA of the series. The single player campaign is more pleasant than in Killzone 2, and the multiplayer is really solid. As expected, Guerilla offers us a very good shooter, which stands out as a landmark of its kind on PlayStation 3.

It took a decade for the vacuum left by the absence of Advance Wars to be filled, not by a new game in the series but by Wargroove, an independent title that has all its qualities. The difference is the tone and look, the fantasy world rather than the military too, but for the rest, Wargroove is the turn-based tactical game that fans of the genre were waiting for, especially on Nintendo Switch obviously.

F1 2011 is not a necessary purchase for the more casual racing game fan. Only the purists will opt to upgrade, in order to play it online, access the latest gameplay enhancement, and dive into the F1 racing world with updated cars and racers. A large update, indeed, rather than a completely new title. But the enhanced AI, better online play, and refined simulation still make for a very welcome addition ; let's hope next year's edition will also feature visual improvements.

There are no surprises with the Dragon Quest 1 & 2 Remake compilation. The two games retain all the charm of the originals, enhanced by the ever-delightful HD-2D graphics, and are enriched with new stories, activities and events. While the two games are not exactly equal, the gameplay adjustments and new features modernise two episodes that were in dire need of an update. It's impossible not to succumb immediately to the charm of this duo, which is as addictive as a delicious treat.

There are games that surprise you simply because they didn't have to exist—at least, not in this form. LEGO Batman: The Legacy of the Dark Knight could have been just another spin-off, another box of bricks sitting on an already crowded shelf. TT Games decided otherwise. It is neither a mechanical rehash of the Arkham series, nor merely another licensed LEGO title; rather, it is a universal work that pays tribute to a character who has endured through the ages—and seems to understand exactly why. It isn't flawless. The stealth mechanics sometimes feel like a half-remembered echo of Rocksteady's games, while the combat constantly reminds you that the game refuses to become too intimidating for its intended audience. Yet, TT Games has delivered its most ambitious title in a long time. It is also its most polished. And, above all, its most honest. An immense love letter to Batman, radiating a contagious sincerity. Ten years after Arkham Knight, that felt almost like a forgotten sensation.

Keeping what's best in the saga, Mortal Kombat on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 is a delicacy, both in terms of form and content. One can argue that its combat system is considerably less flexible and deep than those of its competitors, but is still offers some subtlety, and dynamic combats that are very fun to play. Combining humor, a kitch universe and packed with loads of content to unlock, the Netherealm studio title joins the fighting games pantheon, but in its own style, without playing in the same arena as one Street Fighter IV, Blazblue or King of Fighters.
