Mortal Kombat is BACK. Remember how you felt when you walked through the arcade and saw MK for the first time? That feeling will come shooting back as soon as you put the disc in. FIGHT!

This is the best Mortal Kombat yet. It didn't blow my mind to the degree that Mortal Kombat 2 and 3 did back in the day, but when it comes down to the gameplay and longevity tied to it, this new entry towers above its 2D lineage.

The silky smooth combat combined with the classic twists on the fatalities in the game, of which there are at least two per character not including stage specific ones, and naturally some hidden things that I don't want to spoil here.

A very good reboot for the series. 3D-arenas have been axed, so the combat system is simpler and at the same time more refined. [May 2011]

When you take it all into consideration, Mortal Kombat is a pretty good entry into the series, namely for the surprisingly high-quality story mode, but it falls short in other areas. You'll spew vulgarities almost every time you have to choke down a 1v2 fight and when the AI suddenly gains near-psychic prediction abilities, but when it's an even 1v1 fight, the game is a lot of fun. The choice to essentially reboot the series was a wise one, and now is probably your best chance to get caught up with the Mortal Kombat story, short of replaying the originals. However, some truly asinine fights will certainly dull the enjoyment from time to time.

Returning to give fans the proper dose of Fatality driven action, Mortal Kombat regains its passion.

The fact that, in harking back to earlier days, the game feels stuck in the past, the fact the fighting system really isn't deep compared to other modern-day brawlers, the fact the gore is little more than a sideshow and the fact that most of the fan service appeals to fans who have grown up a great deal since the Nineties throws up numerous reasons to criticise, however.

This really does take you back to the original games with its 2D gameplay and gory fatalities. If you are a veteran of the series, this is a must have. The levels are greatly detailed, and the character models are pretty cool. Each character has several fatalities, and casual gameplay is rewarded by a point system generated by combos, wins, and fatalities. The game runs smooth, the online is fun, and the fatalities are gruesome. Pick this game up now. Expand

I grew up with the original trilogy and played all of the future titles that came after. I’m not going to lie, the series had lost a little bit of steam by the time the 5th game in the series was released, and it wasn’t until this iteration of MK that brought the series back to its former glory. The game feels very much like its classic 2D counterparts and brings back almost all the characters in those games in some way shape or form. The game play is tight, and you can easily mix combos into special moves with ease after a few practice sessions. It really is a blast to play and it’s very hard to put down. The fatalities are back in full force. Almost every character’s fatality will leave you with your jaw dropped. It’s gruesome, gory, bloody, and it’s just pure awesomeness. The graphics are beautiful making this the best looking Mortal Kombat game yet. Also, the game runs at a smooth 60 fps. I highly recommend this game for all fighting game fans out there. Expand

But the newly rebooted Mortal Kombat brings us back to the basics and creates something great. The Graphics are nice and pretty. There are plenty of features and replay value, so you will get your money worth. This Mortal Kombat succeeds cause the game focus on the storyline much more than the predecessors. And to be honest, the storyline is actually great! The campaign is takes about 6-8 hours, depending on the difficulty. The Arcade is fun. But the only problem is that there are matches where the opponent fights really cheap and extremely hard on any difficulty. Like, 2 against 1 and Boss Matches. And it frustrates you to a mental breakdown. But aslong as you practice your skills and strategize your attacks, you will be ok. At the end of the day, I recommend Mortal Kombat to anyone... on a certain age though, who are fans of the Franchise or anyone that are new to the Franchise and are on the fence about it. So I give Mortal Kombat a "9". Expand

MK is the absolute fighting game. If you love fighting games, you should immediately try this one. Even if you're not a fan like me who gotMK is the absolute fighting game. If you love fighting games, you should immediately try this one. Even if you're not a fan like me who got recently into the game, you'll be addicted as soon as you start playing.

The story is fantastic, remaking the events of the first 3 MK with some different events taking place. You get to play a very long story and be able to learn about each new character when you play with it.

But by far the best thing about the game is playing with friends, I introduced this game to my friends (wich no one has ever played MK, and we spent multiple hours playing this thing). We have tag team battles that are great to play with all of your friends and have a great time.

Online is working decently, but nowadays it'll be hard to find any opponents. So if you're looking for online fighting games, maybe get a newer entry.

As with flaws, the tag team battles against the AI could get tedious, and later on very frustrating for the difficulty you're playing at.

In the end, one of the best games of its genre that's definitely recommended. Try getting the Komplete Edition now, you'll get a bunch of extra content that's worth for the price it has.

Seriously, you call this game "mature"? No mature person will tolerate this level of artistic/technical impotence for more than ten minutes.
