Those looking for a game to experience rather than play will love it; those looking for a game where your choices have real weight will risk bitter disappointment. What's certain is that works like this force us, once again, to question what a video game is. Is a great story enough to make you forget you're holding a controller?

Xenoblade Chronicles X was already a monumental game in the last decade, and yet the guys at Monolith Soft have managed to further elevate its quality. The reworked graphics have given us polygonal models that are finally expressive, harmonious in their movements and embellished with lighting that can bring out the details, while the quick reload and other small adjustments made to the combat system have definitively banished the annoying "spectator effect" that the product had inherited from the first Xenoblade Chronicles, ensuring this time that the user is always involved in the combat phases. Between new secondary missions, three additional playable characters, Skells never seen before and above all a rich portion of extra story, Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition represents an unmissable opportunity to return to the planet Mira or at least explore it for the first time.

Our hope is that Absolum represents the first in a long series of hybridizations that could breathe new life into a genre that shaped the history of arcades and the '90s, refreshing the formula and significantly increasing its longevity. We also believe that this promising title hasn't yet exhausted its resources: an expansion with new playable characters and a refinement of an already enjoyable gameplay formula could raise the bar for a game that absolutely deserves the attention of both arcade-style beat 'em up lovers and roguelite fans. It's a shame that its longevity and lack of additional difficulty prevent it from achieving excellence.

Nice sequel for the Ratchet & Clank Series. Free roaming elements and puzzle solving sessions upgrade the main formula and results in a nice twist to the original structure.

The mix of real news and improvements works great, proposing an episode of NBA 2K enjoyable and long-lasting.

It doesn't have the same impact that Fallout 3 had seven years ago, and there's no doubt about that. It's also less RPG and more action, especially when you look at how the combat system has changed, but that can work if you accept the evolution. It took time for Tales from the Borderlands to express its full potential, but it finally happened, and what you get is a story worthy of your time, since in the end every piece of the puzzle gets to its rightful place.

The experience of the first LostWinds has been left unaffected, with a perfect balance between gameplay, graphics and sound. The sequel is even better: it may lack the original sense of wonder, but anyway it delivers a fun and rewarding experience, as it requires both mental effort and a good eye to pad coordination. This with a technical compartment which stands tall, due to the magnificent design and a enchanting melodies. Frontier has delivered another gem, the best WiiWare title and one of the better for the Wii.

Bastion hides a fun traditional gameplay under gorgeous and innovative visuals, that on the long run could come short in variety.

Marvel Fighting Collection is the package that all fans of the saga have been waiting for for many years. Each chapter of the series is re-proposed with a modern netcode, interesting interventions in the quality of life field and a Museum mode full of surprises and goodies. However, the cumbersome presence of Marvel vs Capcom 2 risks overshadowing almost all of the other products in the collection, characterized by a certain physiological redundancy but capable of effectively representing the evolution of one of the most iconic franchises in the history of video games. Too bad for the absence of crossplay and combo challenges for the various characters.

The landing of Pac-Man on Steam couldn't be better, in this edition called Championship DX +. The additions, in terms of gaming content, are limited to the aspects of social organization, the best leaderboards and trophies.

F1 2017 is a game for everyone, not just for the enthusiasts of the discipline it deals with.

It was already a wonderful game to watch on the PlayStation 4, and on the PS5 it is even more flashy: the new version of Crash 4 is fluid and graphically razor-sharp, thanks to the 60 fps frame rate and the 4K resolution; however, the visual upgrade is not all-encompassing, and certainly does not distort the glance of the production. The update for the new Sony and Microsoft consoles, which - we remember - is free and supports the transfer of old gen saves, therefore fulfills its duty without overdoing it, limiting itself to maximizing the strengths of the technical sector. Too bad only for a rather lazy implementation of DualSense, whose features are not valued sufficiently: the use of haptic feedback and a more decisive use of adaptive triggers could in fact have given the experience a more distinctive touch.

The factions are extremely diversified and, although some beloved units are missing, the variety of strategies and playstyle is impressive. The RPG-Style hero management, the new flying units, the introduction of side quests and of a loot system: every feature intelligently expand the classic formula of Total War.

Vampire Survivors is a surprising and well-packaged title, supported by a formula capable of kidnapping the user to drag him into a continuous succession of high-intensity pyrotechnic battles. By putting a simple but effective gameplay loop at the center of the proposal, Poncle has built an experience full of reward mechanics, expertly administered to push the user into a tunnel made of addiction and fun. Son of a talent for game design that we hope will continue to amaze us in the years to come, Vampire Survivors is therefore a title that is absolutely worth trying, especially considering the negligible cost of Luca Galante's work.

The last chapter is almost perfect: F1 2020 presented itself on the starting grid with an additional driving model specifically designed for beginners and new aids available for anyone, as well as with an interesting new managerial mode of brand.

The word "masterpiece" is often used inappropriately and risks losing strength. But if you look at the entire production of Kojima, science fiction as a narrative genre, and those video games that try to get out of the production and thematic logics of the mainstream market, it is undeniable that the merits of a giant should be recognized at Death Stranding.

Titanfall offers unique gameplay within a genre, namely online shooters, that really needed something new. It's fast-paced but not schizophrenic, and many of its subtleties will require time and practice to come out in the open. On the other hand, this noteworthy step forward in gameplay depth should've been supported by a wider offering in terms of game modes, an aspect in which the game falls surprisingly short.

The technical limits of the engine are felt, especially on PC, but the general quality of the fun game allows you to quietly overlook the weaker aspects of a graphical aspect that, in any case, does not create real obstacles to the enjoyment of the game.

This new installment of the series is probably the best in years. Tomb Raider reunites classical elements with the new adventure game philosophy, resulting in a true Masterpiece.

Today, like twenty years ago, we are in the presence of a work capable of crossing the boundaries of the traditional narrative of the medium, touching delicate chords in the souls of the spectators while an unprecedented horror unfolds inexorably before their eyes. If you are a fan of the genre, you have no excuses. The city is waiting for you.

It is a shame, in this sense, that the inclusion of the (disappointing) Free Race mode and the removal of some of the most beloved features of Mario Kart 8 such as the 200cc category and anti-gravity races do not allow the title to take flight towards absolute excellence but it is still a great way to test out your new console, especially in the company of a few friends.

Despite the refined combat system, updated graphics engine, slightly more interesting plot, and the inclusion of open-field gameplay, Nioh 3 hasn't become a completely different experience from its predecessors. Choosing to embark on a journey through time with the protagonist Tokugawa Takechiyo, you'll face terrifying monsters of all sizes, who will fight you with all their might and sometimes seem unfair, impossible to overcome... unless you put in the effort and utilize all the tools the game offers. The score you see below was incredibly difficult to assign, as we wanted it to reflect both the numerous improvements and the consistently high level of commitment required to enjoy everything else: the landscapes, the design of the bosses and common enemies, the powerful Japanese voice acting, and the many graphic details that depict myths and legends, history and fantasy. In short, Nioh 3 is still Nioh: incredibly challenging, but also incredibly satisfying.

An old school arcade game, that emerges not only for the shiny graphic. A simple gameplay that can deeply entertain hardcore gamers and '80 maniacs.

While waiting for the announced remake of the unforgettable first chapter of the trilogy that began in 2003 (also lost in the Sands of Time?), fans of the series can rest easy: The Lost Crown is a delightful new beginning for the saga , a project that exudes all the passion instilled by its developers and a first, hopeful look at the future for one of the most important series of our beloved medium.

Bayonetta 3 is Pure Platinum again. Technical uncertainties partially weaken the visual appeal, but do not sufficiently reduce the overall audiovisual footprint and do not prevent the adventure from achieving excellence. The third chapter of the saga is a continuous discovery, a fireworks show dedicated especially to fans of the Witch of Umbra. In support of a flair and a variety of very high thickness stands a highly calculated gameplay, a combination of controlled chaos and trotting spectacularity. There is a lot, in Bayonetta 3, all that is needed to allow Platinum's work to represent the apotheosis of action games.

Horn is a complete and technically excellent action-adventure game. It will satisfy those looking for a "console style" title in portable devices.

The game can easily run on medium-high-end devices, but a highly responsive touchscreen display is recommended to make the most of an experience that makes the sliding of the fingers the pivot of its gameplay.

Crysis 2 merges technical perfection with an excellent gameplay on every single platform without compromises, thus setting a new standard in the FPS genre.

Ghost of Yotei offers a vast world that compels us to explore, thanks to its incredible visual appeal and a series of simple ideas that effectively ward off the taint of repetitiveness, despite some elements of the offering feeling a bit stuck in the past. Slashing with the Yari, mowing down enemies with dual blades: it's easy to feel like a warrior thirsty for revenge in Sucker Punch's game, which displays genuine attention to all the "important" details and boasts some truly addictive combat. There are stories worth discovering on the map, as well as situations worth experiencing, but unfortunately the plot on which Atsu's journey of revenge is based lacked the courage to dare and some appropriate attention to character development. In any case, a stop in Ezo is a must for fans of Jin Sakai, and in general, anyone looking for a gripping and evocative adventure would do well to take on the role of Onryo.
