Playing as the Grim Reaper's son should have been cool, except for the lazy platforming bits and repetitive action.- DarkStation

Overall I enjoyed my time with Flywrench but wished there was a better process for learning what was right and wrong in terms of mechanics. It starts off so well with elements and mechanics being introduced slowly but surely. By the later stages I was sure I’d be ready for the challenge, and maybe someday I will be. But after a few too many deaths and dumb luck wins I felt put-off. There’s definitely a lot to like with Flywrench for fans of the insanely difficult, rapid-spawning games but for the more casual it will only offer a brief run through 170+ levels that will end in glorious victory, endless deaths, or sheer, dumb luck.- DarkStation

Its dynamic gameplay birthed unforgettable, heroic tales of agents who made amazing triumphs and ultimate sacrifices alike that I still remember over twenty years later. Unfortunately, Phoenix Point never inspires in the same way. The turn-based combat is probably among the best the genre offers but the hollow string of separate missions the procedurally created content weaves can’t carry the game. Ultimately, Phoenix Point is only for true believers of the genre - if they don’t mind the meaningless framework the game is put onto, that is.- DarkStation

In the end, Yonder is undeniably a fantastic game to sit back and chill with. If you're looking forward to some exploration, collection, and light building and farming elements, then Yonder is definitely right up your alley. However! There should be a heavy emphasis on "light" in the sentence up above! This is not the next Harvest Moon or Stardew Valley. No, this is a game with few puzzles, no combat, and filled to the brim with fetch quests and item collection. Yonder isn't without its charms, to be sure. But deep and engaging game play (and story) definitely isn't one of them.- DarkStation

The final verdict on Parappa the Rapper for the PSP is that it is still a very good game just far too short and far too basic.- DarkStation

Like Icaros, The King’s Bird has too much self-confidence and flies too close to the sun. There simply isn’t enough going on for the game to make its wax wings withstand the heat. For a far superior experience in the same genre, go for Celeste. In fact, why haven’t you already? It’s hard but it constantly rewards your efforts.- DarkStation

Defying classic RPG storytelling , Anthem‘s missions and campaign lack the variety, momentum and character-building that define the best games in the genre, and especially the best games from BioWare itself. That said, the voice acting is often great, the environments are incredibly beautiful and the action can be fantastic but eventually Anthem feels like all that colorful combat, sound and fury are in the service of nothing very interesting or innovative.- DarkStation

Despite the addition of the new skill trees, Borderlands 3 Season 2 pass is off to a very rocky start. Arms Race is feels like it needs much more time to evolve into something more substantial, and despite the skill trees being welcomed, I would rather see a brand new character being added for the price Gearbox asks for.. As a free update the Designer’s Cut would have been a nice addition to the game, but at the full price of $14.99 for the Designer’s Cut and $29.99 for the season 2 pass, I can’t currently recommend either to anyone besides hardcore Borderlands loyalist.- DarkStation

Strikers Edge is a pretty pixel art game with a very focused design and a well-developed experience. Unfortunately for the game, the fun is only there for the first couple of hours and the luster sadly quickly wears off. I appreciate the simplistic design but the unforgiving AI and limited roster/arena scope makes the game feel less then it could have been. I enjoyed Striker’s Edge and could even see this game becoming a breakout hit if the developers were able to expand the game's roster and loosen up the difficulty a bit.- DarkStation

While the enhanced edition isn’t bad, its new features don’t do enough to make it the quintessential version of the game to own, at least not when the original is still so damn good.- DarkStation

If you are looking for a game that will keep you entertained for hours, you’ll be best off looking elsewhere. The enjoyment I did find, I found when playing it in quick 10-20 minute sessions but anything longer than that the repetitiveness of the game would wear on me causing boredom.- DarkStation

In the end, Legrand Legacy: Tale of the Fatebounds may scratch your itch for that nostalgic JRPG experience, but only if you're really desperate for such. Otherwise, prepare to mentally harden yourself to withstand many frustrations as you drag your way through the game. It's a shame that despite the stunning art and music, Legrand Legacy ended up being a very average JRPG, greatly flawed by its questionable choices in the game design and pacing.- DarkStation

Pixel Heroes: Byte & Magic uses its happy-go-lucky attitude to its advantage. It’s a great game for players who are looking for a very light RPG experience, or players who don’t have the time to pour into a more absorbing game. Sadly, there is not much to fall back on under the surface mechanics, but Pixel Heroes: Byte and Magic can stand up on its own as a quick, fun, and lighthearted game.- DarkStation

I know there are many players out there who haven't touched a game like this whose eyes would be opened by a game as deep and challenging as this one. Unless you're willing to spend a bunch of time reading FAQs and other external sources of information, though, I'm not sure that Disgaea 3 will be that game. Possible, absolutely, but unlikely.- DarkStation

Jotun: Valhalla Edition feels like the product of ambitious artists and sound designers who had a vision for their world and executed it nigh-flawlessly. Unfortunately, this simply serves to drive home just how mundane the gameplay is. In essence, Jotun as a video game feels more like a vehicle to deliver the artistic talents of its developers. Every element is passable, but the memorable moments all come from artistic achievements, not strong gameplay design.- DarkStation

Sadly, the same repetitiveness affects the enemy types as well. Legion has only one set of soldiers, and due to a miscommunication during Kingpin’s intro mission, I killed at least one of each less than two hours into the game. 20 hours later, my time with Agents of Mayhem was fine. I enjoyed the mix of agents, especially their personal missions, but felt beaten down by the repetitive missions. The boss encounters were enjoyable, but the slog through the hordes of minions to get there was not. Were it not for the overwhelming need to finish, I probably could have written this review 10 hours in and never looked back. Agents of Mayhem is fine. It is. But that’s all it is.- DarkStation

Overall, Uncertain: Light at the End is a good, small-scale science fiction story. I don’t want to punish the game too harshly for its technical issues because the developers acknowledge them and are working hard to fix them in future patches. In the next year, the game is planned to be released on consoles as well. Hopefully, the developers will be able to fund the last part of the trilogy, so that Emily, together with an unlikely ally she met in the end, will finally be able to figure out the reason for the robot invasion.- DarkStation

If you can forgive the technical faux pas, the somewhat creepy mannequin people, the absence of any memorable music and the bare bones gameplay, there's a fantastic story buried underneath the rubble. All of the characters are three dimensional and real, the voice acting feels authentic, and the writing is smart but never preachy. At its core, Fragments of Him is just a poignant story of love and loss. It showcases Will and his partner's relationship as normal and pedestrian. It's almost mundane. But this approach is all the more effective when something that should just be normal and average is treated as such. Based on the title of the game, you can kind of assume where the narrative is likely heading to, but the journey there, while bumpy, is one worth taking.- DarkStation

Unfortunately, the game is quite buggy with multiple technical issues and beyond the solid (but not great) story and replayability. There just isn't much else. Still, if you're a fan of the genre and you're itching for your next mystery murder read, The Shapeshifting Detective is an easy game to recommend for a good evening or two of getting lost in. Just be sure to temper your expectations a little.- DarkStation

Divekick is a clever proof of concept for a fighting game reduction, and while that concept never quite turns into a fighting game great, it remains a precise and fast-paced alternative in a genre where it can often take hours just to get a grip on a single character. It takes all but ten seconds to grasp the basics of Divekick, but unless you really get into the online, it struggles to maintain a long-lasting infatuation.- DarkStation

While this is the sort of thing VR was made for, it’s hard to see Everest VR as anything more than decent piece of “experience it once” edutainment. The interactive sections of the game fail to generate much excitement as you very slowly climb up the mountain, listening to the breathy laments of your fellow climbers (and even see one of them die, which is treated rather flippantly). In the end, there’s not much here that’ll hold someone’s attention for longer than an hour, if that. An experience like this is a great idea--get players to explore places they may never have a chance to see in person--but it doesn’t do enough to really draw you into a strong sense of place.- DarkStation

Loaded with problems, dullness, and annoyances, Pool Panic didn’t grip me anywhere in a way I expected it to. It has a good idea, and with some more interesting level ideas in place, the game would have been an easy recommendation. Instead it just feels wasted. It’s flat and wears out its welcome before you’re even close to done with the 100+ levels. The nuggets of greatness can still be found, but they’re just too few and far between to really keep up the excitement that the title suggests.- DarkStation

Hand of Fate 2 has a perfect home on the Nintendo Switch, as it is the perfect game to play between classes or just before going to sleep. The portability the Switch offers for a game like this is phenomenal and I could not see myself playing on any other system. However, I've never felt both so frustrated and so satisfied by a game before. I simultaneously want to keep playing it and also to never touch it again. As a result, I have no idea how to rate this. I guess I will rate it right down the middle, with a few bonus points for the truly amazing voice talent.- DarkStation

Falcon Age is built on a great concept that doesn’t go very far. There isn’t enough meat on its bones to satiate an appetite for bird-based adventure gaming. VR is nonessential and if you really do want to play the game, I’d advise leaving the headset tucked away. I liked having the bird around as a partner and changing how it looks with a fun assortment of bandannas, hats, and toys. It’s also fun to watch it lift robots off the ground and giving me the opening needed to bash their heads in with my baton. The thrill wears out quickly, though, and the lack of depth made Ara’s home a place I struggled to care about. And that feels wrong.- DarkStation
