Much more of a streamlined experience than a game, Everest VR provides an intimate and well-crafted perspective on Earth's largest mountain.

While this is the sort of thing VR was made for, it’s hard to see Everest VR as anything more than decent piece of “experience it once” edutainment. The interactive sections of the game fail to generate much excitement as you very slowly climb up the mountain, listening to the breathy laments of your fellow climbers (and even see one of them die, which is treated rather flippantly). In the end, there’s not much here that’ll hold someone’s attention for longer than an hour, if that. An experience like this is a great idea--get players to explore places they may never have a chance to see in person--but it doesn’t do enough to really draw you into a strong sense of place.

I took advantage of the January special offers at PlayStation Store in order to buy several games and Everest VR was one of them. I've workedI took advantage of the January special offers at PlayStation Store in order to buy several games and Everest VR was one of them. I've worked as videogames reviewer in many Spanish magazines for 10 years, so I have plenty of experience as a videogames critic. Having that as introduction, I can say Everest VR is the most disappointing experience I had so far in VR.

Of course, it's not a true videogame. It's more something like an "interactive experience". But it's a really bad one. The controls and interactions are that stupid and pointless, that I'd rather preferred not having controls or interaction at all. Graphically the Unreal Engine is much more powerful than this crap. And the different "stages" are reeeeeally boring. Maybe with some motion graphics and better explanation videos it could be as interesting as I expected, but nope. It's stupid, boring and graphically poor from the first frame to the last. I've paid 5 euros for this and I think I've paid 5 more than it deserves.
