For me Need for Speed is dead and buried as a franchise. Yes, Payback offers a large and varied open world and 70 licensed cars, but the driving model is decent at best, microtransactions system resembles free-to-play games, randomized upgrades force you to grind and the story (along with the dialogues) is simply embarrassing. A game that combines ideas from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Shadow of the Colossus sounds like something PC players desperately needed. Unfortunately, the three-person team behind Praey for the Gods bit off more than it could chew. The game’s survival elements are tiresome, while boss encounters are decent but plagued by many flaws. Overall, it’s a barely solid copy of Team Ico’s cult classic

This 2D platformer looks and feels like it was sold on floppies two decades ago. It's fun, but there's no real thought behind this game. [12/2012, p.89]

A terrific idea – Evoland lets us gradually unlock milestones in evolution of RPG games and see how they influence the experience. Unfortunately about halfway through this charming game turns into a torture chamber, because it wasn’t thought out well enough in terms of gameplay. [CD-Action 06/2013, p.79]

The game seemingly had everything that was needed to bring back the glory of Forgotten Realms, but failed due to a shallow story, unimaginative quests and lack of identity. [13/2015, p.58]

A decent platformer that you could launch after work to relax if it weren’t for its pompous sad atmosphere and exalted bullshit about suffering and mental illnesses that are being shoved down your throat. [03/2014, p.69]

Combat requires precision but Kinect can't keep up with the player and the more annoyed you become, the more nervous and ineffective are your actions. The same applies to driving your wagon. [CD-Action 13/2012, p.59]

This game can be charming (its surreal setting is wonderful), but not charming enough to turn a blind eye to boring gameplay and numerous other shortcomings, like faulty collision detection (yes, in a game that’s all about collision detection). [CD-Action 07/2013, p.62]

The most interesting bad game of this generation and the ugliest I’ve seen on PS3 in last couple of years. Only for Nier and Drakengard fans. [08/2014, p.70]

Reaching newer car models or chip tuning takes much too long but Car Mechanic Simulator’s detailed visuals look good for a low budget title and the game offers a chance to learn something really useful. [04/2014, p.61]

The developers from Gaming Corps don’t even try to hide the fact that they are shamelessly copying from Telltale. What’s more, The Descendant is a highly imperfect counterfeit – poorly written, not engaging, sometimes unintentionally funny and technically flawed. [02/2017, p.43]

Your choice of the character (Caddoc, a warrior, or E'lara, a ranged weapon specialist) determines whether Hunted turns out to be a generic hack'n'slash or a quite decent fantasy themed shooter. I was surprised how much I enjoyed scoring headshots with a bow. [July 2011, p.70]

I love the game’s visual style, but the developers’ idea to essentially get rid of written text and make the player work out all the gameplay mechanics by himself sometimes works fine and sometimes feels like an unnecessary nuisance. I was also annoyed by the awkward menu and the fact that a game with such simple graphics can’t maintain a stable framerate. [07/2021, p.54]

Although it's just a movie tie-in with noticeable budget limitations, it's solid, especially in the combat department. I was surprised by Super Soldier's rich combat system obviously inspired by Batman: Arkham Asylum. It can offer a couple of hours of mindless but decent entertainment. [August 2011, p.62]

More a movie than a game, Fort Solis surprises with top-notch acting and creates a pretty decent atmosphere, but doesn’t offer any real challenge. It focuses on exploration but the protagonist’s sluggish movement effectively discourages it. This walking simulator will either captivate you enough to finish the story in one sitting or bore you in the first fifteen minutes.

Tennis World Tour 2 is far from perfect, but if you compare it to Big Ant Studios’ previous tennis games, you will notice significant progress. A lot of improvements have been made and the game is not as awfully bland as its predecessor. It’ll take a lot more work to make this series truly good, but it seems the developer is capable of getting there after all. If you enjoy tennis and stumble upon TWT2 on a sale, you can seriously consider giving it a chance. [13/2020, p.76]

This tactical game about dwarves exploring an alien planet will not forgive any mistakes and will boss you around, but is completely fair in its ruthlessness. It’s a shame that brilliant setting was wasted by writers and the game itself becomes monotonous after a while. [05/2016, p.62]

A challenging survival game with a dark atmosphere and intriguing story. It’s much better than its price suggests, but can be really frustrating when the random factor (implemented to intensify tension) goes rogue and causes almost all the systems in your base to malfunction within half a minute.
