    Despite the slightly underwhelming visuals and the rather brutal initial learning curve, Nobunaga’s Ambition: Sphere of Influence is an otherwise unmitigated success and fine example of how the strategy genre has the potential to strive on home consoles.

    The unique, utterly charming aesthetic certainly plays its part, but ultimately, it’s the fundamental gameplay that makes this game quite as special as it is. The combination of solid shooting mechanics with personnel and task management is inspired, leading to this being one of the most entertaining games that I have played this year and amongst the finest co-op experiences of the generation.

    Episode one of Blues and Bullets is a short, whistle-stop tour. Does it have me interested enough to go and buy the next episode? Perhaps. Although not as instantly gripping as The Walking Dead or Life is Strange, it does do something different.

    It has the potential to be both painfully depressing and outrageously infuriating, but Don’t Starve: Giant Edition works largely because of its potential to do so. It’s roguelike structure won’t be to everyone’s tastes, but for those with the patience to live by its rules and learn from their own mistakes, Klei Entertainment’s unique survive-em-up will deliver one of the most rewarding, tense and exciting gaming experiences of the year.

    I loved it from start to finish and while I feel it’s a little pricey for the length, I gladly endorse it and recommend anyone who enjoys 2D platformers to try it.     Commander Cherry’s Puzzled Journey has a limited fun value but it can be entertaining for an hour or so but that is dependent on how flexible you are, how much space you have in your living room and how much lighting you have.

    With plenty of tracks and cars on offer, a variety of surprisingly fun game modes and local multiplayer for up to four players, Super Toy Cars does offer some fun for your £7.99 and can certainly fill that Mario Kart/Micro Machines-sized hole in the Xbox One’s library for the time being, but don’t expect it to be anywhere near the quality of the classics that inspired it.

    With its sprawling story, not to mention the array of side missions available when Shadowrunning, Shadowrun: Hong Kong is a huge game, with mystery at the heart of everything. Its stunning visuals won’t tax your hardware too much, meaning that it can run on PCs half a decade old without much in the way of performance issues, and its open-ended gameplay means that no two playthroughs will be the same.

    While it is still the silly, buggy experience you’d expect, the addition of challenges and a unique feel to each mode makes this more than just a farmyard destruction derby. For those looking for an escape from all the seriousness of modern games then Goat Simulator is a perfectly good time waster, as long as you don’t take it seriously.

    Bike Rider DX2 is a hidden gem amongst a wealth of similar titles on the bloated Nintendo eShop.     Aaru’s awakening is a gorgeous game with a great story. Due to the sheer difficulty of the game, replayability is very low. Once I got through each level, especially the boss level, I did not want to go back and play it again. As a matter fact it makes you lose interest in the game period.

    Trials fusion has always been punishing for its hard difficulty level and The Awesome MAX Edition DLC adds to that. I highly recommend this game. It’s creative, its unique and most of all, it’s absolutely hilarious.
