One has to admire that after 14 studio albums and unprecedented success throughout her entire career, Madonna still refuses to rest on her laurels! Madame X is brilliant, breathtaking and ballsy!!! Favourite tracks (currently) are Killers Who Are Partying, Extreme Occident and of course God Control.

It's Madonna at its most provocative essence since American Life. An album that did not come to follow trends or play streamings, because she sings away from the comfort zone and with her feet on the ground, when she says in Portuguese that the world is wild and the road is lonely. An album that did not come to follow trends or play streamings, because she sings away from the comfort zone and with her feet on the ground, when she says in Portuguese that the world is wild and the road is lonely. Lonely because they are few artists with their visibility giving voice to causes that need to be heard. The scenario she describes in God Control is frighteningly the picture of a global politics we live here in Brazil or the USA. Madonna proves in Madame X how much is needed and once again unites pop and art under the eyes of an artist who has seen a lot and feels privileged to be able to continue being heard. Madame X is the newest innovation of pop, we leave these cheesy and senseless songs, and plunge into the music era as her true art. Once again, Madonna proves that she is the Queen of Pop and no one has picked up her crown, she launches the trend and in a while, we will see many artists doing their songs, with the same sonority of Madame x.

I always worry when I see so many collaborations on a Madonna album, especially rappers, as for the last decade she's been featuring them on her albums and going the wrong way about it. She did it right here. Really right. Faz Gostoso is probably her best song in recent history.

Madonna has had many hits and global best seller albums through her long career. What can be said for sure is that each one of them presented a different sound and a new reinvention of Madonna's image to accompany the concept of the album. It is also true that most of her albums were relying on a big leading single that would turn heads and set the overall feel of the album. Confessions onMadonna has had many hits and global best seller albums through her long career. It is also true that most of her albums were relying on a big leading single that would turn heads and set the overall feel of the album. Confessions on a dance floor was a best seller because of Hung up and Hard Candy was a hit because of 4 Minutes. In Madame X each song has each own identity and to fully appreciate the album you will need to listen from start to finish. If I had to describe the album in a single sentence I would say it is American Life with ethnic sounds. It resembles American Life because of Mirwais productions and the political messages of the lyrics (God Control, Batuka, Dark Ballet, Future). However in Madame X Madonna offers more uplifting global sounds (Medellin, Faz Gostoz, **** I'm Loca) that make the album richer and less sterilised than American Life. The ballads included are excellent and complement the album perfectly (Killers who are partying, Looking for Mercy, Extreme Occident). The album will definetlety divide the fans because it is so different to her previous releases however it never crosses the boundaries of a pop album. Madame X is a far cry from the uninspiring Rebel Heart and the cheesy MDNA. It is also light years away from the outdated sound of Hard Candy. Fans should definitely give it a chance. Moving away from USA made a marked turn to Madonna's sound and Madame X shows how she can still reinvent her sound again and again and again. Expand

After 3 (great) albums of mostly "radio friendly" fare, Madame X expands on the more exotic and daring themes from Madonna's past catalog (think Secret Garden, Shanti, Mer Girl, Isaac, Gang Bang) but with spectacular new twists & turns featuring on-brand existential lyricism, shimmering production, ethereal melodies and dynamic vocals. With not a bad song inClassic M to the next level. With not a bad song in the bunch, this could in fact be the most immaculate album of her career. It's a musical adventure to be experienced start-to-finish, much like a Bjork album. But where Bjork channels the otherworldly, Madonna curates compelling sounds from all over planet Earth. As one navigates through this brand-new sonic world, at times it feels as if the old magically becomes new. Medellin is the new La Isla Bonita filtered through To Have and Not to Hold. The cinematic Looking for Mercy serves up powerhouse emotional vocals reminiscent of Live to Tell. Dark Ballet is a granddaughter of the American Life album, tripping on psychedelia. The sugarcoated, latin-inflected girl-group pop of Crazy sounds like a youthful J. Lo covering True Blue. The heartracing, entrancing I Don't Search I Find compresses Rescue Me & Waiting into a glittering new package. Madonna has always been sugar n' spice & everything but nice and she works her classic MO to maximum effect on Madame X. Don't even attempt to sit still through Batuka, Faz Gostoso, Come Alive or **** I'm Loca as your body will automatically start to sway to the irresistible rhythms. And hold onto your seat during God Control, a thrilling, wild disco ride embellished with a schoolgirl style rap (not to mention, an Enigma-esque choir) that makes Impressive Instant sound like Promise to Try. Employing an array of accents and languages, Madonna continues to function as the Meryl Streep of the music world. After having crooned in Sanskrit, Hebrew, Spanish, French, etc., she now adds Portuguese to her repertoire, which she phrases with astonishing agility. Atmosphere and ambiance abound: Future is tropical lounge music...from the moon. The haunting, hypnotic Killers Who Are Partying and Extreme Occident are like getting lost in a foreign bazaar and finding yourself in a gypsy bar. Only Madonna could do this and that is why she is the greatest musical act of our times. Album of the year, easily. Expand

Her best album since Confessions. The songs are weird (in the best way) and experimental and exciting. It’s a mix of Music and American Life albums, a little of 90s Madonna with a dash of Latin flavor and world sounds.

A great comeback from the queen of pop. Is a mix of sound that we had never hear and that will influence the future of pop music, as every previous work of madonna.

A pop album so complex that only a madonna-level artist can do, the perfectionism of an experienced artist who survived the time thanks to his sincere and natural talent.

Finalmente Madonna retomou seu trono e chamou a música para si. Um grande álbum! Finally Madonna resumed her throne and called the song to herself. A great album!

I love this album, i love the mix of sounds and experiences that it has. It's freak, bizarre and its the best thing of the album. Also: the intelligence of this woman pointed on the lines beetwen the lyrics, its a plus to be considered. Only she can do this and made it perfectly!

A musical masterpiece from the queen of pop. This album is a trip that mixes different genres providing a surprisingly good flow. The track produced with Mirwais are highlights but even the more poppy material works wonderfully.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is the kind of album I've been expected from Madonna. So different from everything has been done. Highlight for: 'Dark Ballet', so weird and interesting at the same time; 'God Control', whose lyrics and the 70's vibes sounds so fresh; 'Future', one of the best dancing track and with a powerful message; 'Batuka', the most experimental song from Madonna so far; 'Crave'; 'Crazy', perfect ballads; 'Faz Gostoso', one of the best track in this masterpiece with brazillian rhythm; 'I Don't Search I Find', so retro and still so fresh and; 'Looking For Mercy', so beauiful and deep; 'I Rise', a necessary anthem nowadays. Madonna is back and she still relevant after all this time and she still has some to say and to give, in this case: f**king good music. Expand

Overall, Madonna’s fourteenth album Madame X feels as if Mirwais had mostly completed a decent run-of-the-mill modern pop record, albeit with a cool hotch-potch global feel; hip nods in place to fado, dub and other micro-genres dunked amongst the trap and retro disco. But then just before sign-off, Herself went through the top-lines with a sharpie. ... None of these carefully curated flourishes feel as if they truly live inside the ‘whole’ of this music. Instead it all feels plonked on top of a template.

Madonna has created this music for an audience of one: Herself. Often it works. Sometimes it doesn’t.
