I’m so sad and angry about the movie. I genuinely love Wonder Woman. It’s easily a top 5 character. But this movie is full of plot holes. The reason why they stuff is badly explained. It feels more like scenes glued together then an actual movie.

Just no. The first half alone is unbearable, a movie that’s very aware of itself, really bad actors and a slow unforgettable first hour and a half especially.

The first movie was brilliant this one didn’t need to be made. I did not enjoy the majority of it - I loved Diana’s shoes, some of the effects was good but not a good movie. Flat jokes and cliche after cliche.

WW 1984 absolutely not unfortunately as I was really looking forward to the sequel. The biggest problem is that 1984 completely lost the soul of the first one due to all of the very disappointing over acting. Is 1984 trying to be a slapstick comedy? An anagram of 80’s bad comedy movies? There are sections that are reminiscent of the first movie but there are too many hokey parts in 1984 that makes one wonder what the director was trying to illicit. Too bad. Love Gal Gadot and Chris Prine who have for the most part great on screen chemistry. Expand

Whose idea was this garbage and where do I even start? OK, 40 min in and I already found few plot holes, tons of things make no sense including the villain. Why does he do what he do, what he was trying to achieve? Makes no sense. The "fish out of water" thing kinda wears off real quick and adds almost nothing to the story. The guy from WW2 does not know what fireworks are? seriously? Same with prologue part, has no reason to be there whatsoever.
There is a "teleportation" part in the middle, feels very out of place. And whole scene prior to that could have been easily removed, it adds nothing to story. There is also an anti-hero here that learns and can do stuff just in few hours, makes no sense.
The whole "wishing" thing does not make any sense as well, what if people wish opposite things? Or identical wishes? Bruce Almighty, anyone? (this is not spoiler, it is in trailers)

The Ending is not only stretched, (movie is definitely feels 20-ish min too long) but just overall weird and kind of anticlimactic, no cool scenes at all. And everthing comes back to normal like nothing happened. The whole movie feels like it does not need to exist. I am just so disappointed, I had faith in this movie and like 2020, it is a dumpster-fire.

The good: a couple scenes with Trevor which contained Gadot's best acting thus far, and some aerial scenes. I'd estimate 20 minutes of good scenes.

The bad: everything else. This is a SLOW movie, with barely any action in the first hour and a half, that at times feels like a Lifetime drama exploring the difficulties of being a woman. They could have cut a good 40 minutes from this movie. The comedy is awful, the villain makes no sense, every man in the movie is a horny creep, and the ending makes no sense. That "Imagine" video Gal Gadot posted that was laughed off the internet was a great preview of the ending of this movie.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The movie's premise is so insane and nonsensical that it has a hard time setting up constraints to wrangle in its own potential plot. The wishing plot is impossible to make a movie out of because the entire movie could be solved at any point by the right character making the right wish? Why didn't Chris Pine just wish for Madalorian's wish never to have happened? Why didn't Mandalorian have someone wish that nobody could stop him?

A few questions for you to ask yourself -
How do renounced/cancelled wishes work? Does everything get undone from that point in time onwards, or does it work as if the wish never happened?
Why doesn't Diana ever use her invisibility powers other than one time for one cool scene that they never explain or come back to?
Why was the entire beginning of the movie included?
Why do the people go from referring to Diana as a mysterious woman who nobody has pictures of and may or may not exist to saying to each other "where's Wonder Woman?!?" by the end of the movie?
And the explanation for Mando granting wishes to everyone across the world is nonsense - that particles will be beamed down from the TV studio, and those particles "touching people" counts as physical contact with him... He might as well go around spitting on people and telling them to wish for a million bucks.

The movie world was also just not immersive. Namely, when Diana walks through the city in chaos - it looks too staged.

Also when Mandalorian wished to turn into the stone, he should have literally morphed into the stone.

Pedro Pascal's Max Lord is the only good part of the movie. Kristen Wiig was great as well, but her character lacked a complete character arc.
After an amazing first movie, 1984 somehow manages to redo everything its predecessor did that was right.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Suicide Squad got my vote for worst DC movie (at least in recent years), but Wonder Woman 1984 has now taken that spot and may remain there for a long time. This movie is just bad, I thought the first movie was decent, but the sequel is a poor follow-up. I found all the principle characters to be rather uninteresting aside from the main villain, indeed Pedro Pascal's performance was the only reason I watched it all the way through and that's setting The Mandalorian show aside completely. I find Gal Gadot to be mediocre as Wonder Womoan, Kristen Wigg just seems to be herself and Chris Pines really doesn't come off as much different playing Steve Trevor or Captain Kirk. The story is interesting but the movie comes off as a mix of clunky, flat, corny and also ridiculous. The invisible jet sequence was silly, the lightning lassoing was silly and I found is straight up ridiculous when she starts "flying". The ending was rather mediocre. I felt nothing when Wonder Woman had to let go of Steve Trevor, indeed I only really felt something when the villain reunited with his son. The movie is at least a half-hour too long and that is really being generous. The CGI and effects are at least decent, but this leads to one of my biggest issues with this movie and the first Wonder Woman movie: slo-mo. Every action sequence in this movie and the previous movie uses slo-mo all the time and it SUUUUUUCKS! I can't stand the overuse of slo-mo in these movies is just drags things down and doesn't make the action seem anymore impressive, if anything less so. Expand

Everything here is even more boring than the first film plus the two and a half hour long runtime makes this film hard to get through. I was almost never interested in what was happening. There was a cool action scene in the desert and anything with Pedro Pascal was kinda entertaining but that was it. Gal Gadot does a worse job here than in the original Wonder Woman. For reference, I thought she was okay in the first Wonder Woman. Chris Pine was good in this but his reasoning for being in the film was dumb and he didn’t serve any purpose to the plot other than their chemistry was good in the first film. Their chemistry here is still good but Gadot’s weak performance stains it a little bit. Chris Pine is only in the movie for about less than 50% of the runtime. His appearance was pointless and they shouldn’t have included him at all. I thought Pedro Pascal did a good job with the material even though his villain is absolutely terrible. He doesn’t have any interesting motivations or ideas other than I wanna be all powerful. Pascal did a great job at making his villain incredibly over the top which at least made the film watchable when he was on screen. Hans Zimmer’s score was good too although it’s significantly weaker than his other musical scores. The films story is incredibly cliched and nonsensical with everyone getting what they wished for and absolutely no one wishes for certain things to happen? There is a wall that is put up in the Middle East and not one person in the world wishes for it to be taken down? It doesn’t make any sense. Since the film takes place in the 1980’s, I expected the film’s tone and visuals to be reminiscent of that era but there was almost nothing that told you this was the 80’s except the music and the cars. They could have made this movie so much better by leaning much much more into the 80’s tone but it chooses to go on the safe, predictable route. If you like the DCEU then you might get something out of this but any average movie fan can skip this and not worry about missing out on anything. Expand

Rather average. Firstly Gal Gadot IS Wonder Woman and plays her extremely well here, although if I am honest, I don't know the source material well.
Both villains were likeable and were played pretty well. There were a few good moments in the film. 'Someone else' was also very likeable albeit underused (undercooked? undersomething anyway!).

That's about where the good ends. An early scene is super corny/cheesy. Made me wonder if DC misunderstands fans that ask for their heroes to be more heroic and less dark, thinking they mean they want them and their villains and regular civilians to all be cheesy caricatures.
Diana does something incredibly selfish that essentially steals someone's autonomy and puts them in mortal danger for much of the film. I couldn't really stop seeing it that way. Her original action is unintended, following through on it is not.
The two villains are pretty decent, but the method of stopping the 'main' one seemed both weak and as though you could avoid consequences of your choices a little too easily.
I wish the Barbara character's other side got explored more.
CGI looked bad to shockingly bad in several places.
Felt slow sometimes. I think it is 2.5 hrs long and doesn't have near enough story for that.
I also have a continuity objection in Diana's power set here vs two future stories she has been seen in.
Unfortunately my review is that the original film was far superior. This wasn't terrible, but it is very forgettable. An aggressively average 5.

BACKGROUND

I was very excited for this movie when it was initially announced. I was even more excited when we were told it would be coming straight to HBOMax because of the pandemic. I thought it would be a nice Christmas present but boy was I wrong. I honestly don't know how this movie made it off of the cutting room floor. STORY

The film has a double opening structure that artificially extends is ridiculously long length even more. from then on the movie begins to showcase the poor writing skills of director Patty Jenkins. The entire film is based around a Macguffin that basically every character wants for their own purposes. There is no explanation given for how the Macguffin even made it into the movie and why it is important. I guess it's meant for us to suspend disbelief. The Macguffin causes all kinds of trouble that WW now has to undo and by the end of the movie it becomes clear that nothing that happened in this movie will have any lasting effect on the future of the franchise. EFFECTS

The film's CGI isn't too bad overall. Kristen Wiig as Cheetah looks pretty good in my opinion. The main issue I had was with the wire work of the lasso effects and how WW uses them. It looks very low budget and they could have cleaned it up more. CHARACTERS

Wonder Woman is living her life as an Anthropologist at the Smithsonian in D.C. and for some reason still hasn't gotten over Steve Trevor despite him being dead for DECADES. Kristen Wiig plays Barbara Ann Minerva (Cheetah) who is basically a dorky scientists that wishes she was as beautiful and sought after as Diana. Pedro Pascal does his best as the sleazy, snake oil salesman Maxwell Lord. Steve Trevor is basically the same as the previous movie. The plot revolves around these 4 main characters and their interactions with the Macguffin. QUESTIONS -If WW can fly why didn't she use that ability in BvS or JL? -Why did WW swing between lightning bolts when she was already FLYING?
-Why does Maxwell Lord have an Asian son that has no purpose in the plot?
-What was the point of the Golden Armor when it is ripped to shreds so easily by Cheetah? -Why doesn't Maxwell just have someone wish Diana dead?
-Why is this movie so long? -What was the point of the Amazon Olympics opening sequence?
-Why did Steve Trevor inhabit some random guy's body and why was Diana ok with that?

MY SCORE:

4/10 this movie was totally unnecessary. The plot was incredibly stupid, the characters were very forgettable and this film did nothing to setup future installments. They've already announced a sequel in development. I sincerely hope they bring back the writers of the first movie and don't let Patty Jenkins anywhere near the script.

What makes this one not very good, is that it has literally no plot, and they brought back chris pine for no reason at all. This part doesn't even make sense. This film is also incredibly boring for at least 90 minutes. It is terrible at holding the audience's attention. Now the reason this gets a 4, is because the music is great (Hans Zimmer, of course), and the action was actually good, but it took 2 hours to get there....

Mostly a stinker of a superhero film. Oh, I almost forgot to mention how bad Kristen Wig's villain was....just terrible. There really was literally no point in making this movie, BUT it still is a one time watch, and that's it. I won't be buying this one on 4k when it goes on sale. The first Wonder Woman with Gal was actually pleasantly surprising and quite good. Sadly, this sequel is a dud.

Naturally WW84 is the must have digital movie ticket of year end 2020, so we delved into it with gusto. Sadly this franchise seems to have lost its way a little.
One of the great appeals of Wonder Woman is her tie to the timeless past of greek mythology, and after hinting at a dark link with ancient origins, nothing further was revealed in that wasted storythread. Instead we get a trite, shallow, snake oil salesman routine on a global stage. Instead of a focused journey of growth and discovery, we get fire fighter Diana running from one flaming chaos to another. Gal Gadot plays her part beautifully, especially in her heartfelt scenes with Chris Pine. Some of those moments were heart wrenching as she reflects on the sacrifices of the past and future. Pine really rises to the occasion with maturity and resourcefulness. Pedro Pascal started off well but devolved into a melodramatic heap. Kristen Wiig also started well but descended into a shallow, vicious creature. Such wasted potential. Though the events of this movie play out on a global stage, the magnitude and investment is lost in a blizzard of pettiness and self serving motivations. There are no grand historical themes, no lessons for mankind, nothing of substance. I actually wonder if Jenkins was a one hit wonder, and if we should worry about Rogue Squadron.

Most of the film is dull and boring has nowhere near the excitement of the first.
Young Diana is good then were made to care about pointless characters and a wishing stone. making wishes is not action and no one cares, the whole plot is so poor and has been done before. All of the ways this could have gone with the Amazonians, the old Gods or even a Justice league Villian. But we got cheetah who created a little challenge and is a character seen so many times before that thinks she has been wronged and goes crazy. Maxwell lord who was always going to change his mind on what he is doing in the whole movie and making wishes just isn't that interesting than a villain Diana can not beat.

We also get Steve Trevor again who does little in this film but follow Diana around like a lost sheep. They should have gone with a new character really because from his introduction you knew he was not going to be staying very long and Diana would be upset like in the last movie pretty much the same thing again.

I was so excited to watch this movie, Wonder Woman in 2017 was such a wonderful film, and Gal Gadot actually saved Batman v. Superman in some ways for me, and the cast of this movie deserved so much better. Poor storytelling, bad development, the first ten minutes were a flashback to young Diana and it was the best scene of the entire movie, made me believe Diana was going to relate to her past experiences and try not to cheat her way through life, but nothing made me feel like she learned anything. She whined and cried over Steve after (spoiler, duh) he comes back and has to die again. The resurrection of his character felt forced and unnecessary, and Barbara Ann Minerva was such a poor character. Pedro Pascal truly is the one who carried this movie, as he played an over the top Maxwell Lord, and even if the his goals didn’t make sense, his character had a full arc that, at the end, felt like it was given justice. Can’t say shy about Wonder Woman or Cheetah, who again, they did such a poor job with. Poor Kristen Wiig. This cast has way too much to talent to bring such a slow, lackluster story with barely any memorable scenes or action. DC’s only good movies are Man of Steel, Wonder Woman, and Shazam! And I can TOLERATE Birds of Prey. This movie was too pushed, and had so much expectation, but quite literally gave up before it even began, and it’s a damn shame. Expand

The only saving grace was Kristin Wiig tried very hard... then they made her a broadway cat for someone reason.

now everyones covered the mess of the story so ill just state plainly the huge issues of this movie which are, diana now effectivly being a R@pist, and the raging misandry, so diana and steve bang asualt the possesed man (cant use the word starting with s as this place is touchy) a man who cannot consent and its shrugged off as ok and they dont even bother ackowleging it instead using it as a joke, how do you expect us to stand with a hero who has no problem with ruining the life of the possesed man, almost getting him killed and so on

now the misandry, every man save for steve is a raging douchebag misognistic twit and whats funny is the director stated it was a comment on misogny women face in the world and how women are consantly being treated like objects, yet proceeds to name the bang assualted possesed man as HANDSOME MALE like she couldnt give him a name, bloody bond babes get name and we all now how misognistic those movies are

honestly i could write so much on how scummy this is but thankfully many have already seen this and shown there disgust, dont see this movie if you have any respect for the charcters and for people in general cause it insults everyone

The plot was incredibly muddled and honestly didn't make sense. That's usually okay in an action movie, but honestly there was hardly any action either.

What we were left with was a 2.5 hour slog of lazy writing, poor character development, a glaringly inconsistent setting and an incredibly over-the-top and/or cheesy performance by a lot of the cast. It's a shame too because these cast members are usually quite excellent in other roles. Thanks to the lackluster visual effects, incredibly cringey writing and rather underwhelming directing, these top-grade talents seem more like they're performing dress rehearsals for a high school play.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Patty Jenkins and DC Comics should be embarrassed by this disaster. This was two and a half hours of my life I will never get back. I really liked the first Wonder Woman and went into this one with an open mind and positive attitude only to get an hour into the film and 'wishing' for it to be over. It is really that bad. If you are at least hoping for a cool 80's soundtrack to bring a little redemption to the film, you will disappointed there too. Not a single 80's song. This is absolutely the perfect film to put an exclamation point on 2020. Expand

But this one is a total abomination to anything even remotely related to Wonder Woman. The characters are terribly written, Chris Pine is decent but is barely a part of it, there are only like 3 or 4 fight scenes in the film, and the villains are bad altogether, with Cheetah getting no satisfying conclusion and Max being an idiot Trump cosplayer. The film has zero pacing and by the 1 hour mark, you'll just wish it was over. I would not be surprised if this film oficcialy killed the DC film series. This movie makes Batman V Superman look like Shrek in quality comparison. (In that BVS was much better). Shame on you, Party Jenkins. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie is cat woman bad. I can't imagine how in the world anyone can see this movie is ... even decent. Let's look at all these bad plot points. There's a magic wishing stone that drives everything about the movie. Woman womans invisible jet, steve trevors return, cheetah, maxwell lord. There's no c haracter development, just a deux ex machina that makes everything. And there's no answer as to how maxwell knows so much about the stone. Characters jujmp from one set to another with no real understanding. Steve Trevor, from 1942, Can drive a car from the 80s ,a modern age plane and seems aware of everything going on. It's like captain america if it was written by a 6-yerar old. Wonder woman, for 40 years doesn't see anyone else. She just waits for a man. And are we going to talk about the life of the man he took. Did he have ajob? If he were a woman, wouldn't we say somthing that she's having non consientual sex . And why is this movie 2 and a half hours. This plot meanders. We don't learn anythinig that changes the plot in the last half of the movie. Expand

Diana Prince portrayed as a shrinking violet over Steve. This whole movie is a mess from start to finish. If this had been viewed in a theater, I probably would have left early. I pushed through because my wife wanted to see it but even she fell asleep halfway through, and she's usually far better than I when it comes to shutting off the brain and enjoying mindless entertainment.

The bad DCU is back. They captured lightning in a bottle with the original Wonder Woman and Aquaman but now they're back to making terrible movies. I'd argue this is nominally better than Justice League and on par with the awfulness of Suicide Squad.

I see the "iF yOu DoN't LiKe iT uR a MiSoGyNiSt" brigade is rallying on Twitter to defend this travesty of a movie. It's a bad film and it would be a bad film if it was a male lead or a female lead. It has nothing to do with Gal Gadot or Kristin Wiig. Patty Jenkins does deserve all the criticism for this weak movie -- not because she's a woman but because she was the engineer and conductor of this trainwreck.

DC should just call it quits on their movie attempts.

The first one was alright until the ending went and derailed the entire thing, but this film doesn't even actually have a plot. I'm not sure if it's a problem of too many cooks, or just someone trying to get a bunch of points nailed out so that they could create another movie. Sadly in this DCEU the later is the most common reason. Honestly I'm not sure who or how many people wrote the story for this, but it is non sensical and there's literally no point. Nothing that happens means anything. The character even gets a whole bunch of new super powers for literally one scene and never has them again. The consequences of the world almost ending (again) aren't in the future movies, and even after Wonder woman reveals herself to everyone no one even knows she exist. Frustratingly bad movie that's not even worth the free watch on HBO's streaming service. Seriously not even the CGI is good in this! Expand

Definitely enjoyed the first Wonder Woman outing and despite Gadot’s political beliefs I think she is the definitive Wonder Woman this sequel though is an absolute mess. Kristen wiig is the only real highlight of this film otherwise it legit feels like an ai generated this movie after watching all the 70s and 80s bad superman/superhero movies. I’m fine with campy but this entire movie felt bizarre like it didn’t know what it wanted to be, like it 4 different films running at the same time at such a sluggish pace while overstaying it’s welcome. Lots of weird things happen and it all feels off kilter down to the script and reactions of characters, the film never seems to understand or follow the rules of its reality. The end just happens with no real resolute or cloture just an abrupt Christmas scene that just feels ham fisted. If you’re on HBO Max you’re better off watching Birds Of Prey, definitely the best live action comic movie this year and very enjoyable. Expand

First the good. Pedro Pascal, Kristen Wiig, and Chris Pine are wonderful and really carry the movie. There are some really cool fight sequences, and Gal Gadot is great as Wonder Woman.

The not so good... The script is a bit of a mess. Shortcuts abound -- sometimes WW discovers powers that she just happens to need in the moment. Some things are never fully explained when you need them to be explained, you're just expected to pick up on it. There's a scene where WW is speaking in a low voice and can be heard perfectly, when the ambient noise is causing the other character to yell to be heard. And one rescue scene is just irredeemably bad. Lots of little things like that that pull you out of the moment.

In all, it's not a terrible movie. It's just not a great movie, and as a fan of the superhero genre I doubt I'll ever watch it a second time.

This much-anticipated action adventure release misses the mark in so many ways that it's easy to lose count. The story was frequently derivative, the script played like it was written by a committee, the action sequences weren't especially engaging (and a little slow in coming), there were plot holes aplenty, the symbolism was obvious and heavy-handed, there was little to characterize the story (visually or thematically) as to the significance of its 1984 setting, and on and on and on it goes in endlessly lame ways. To be sure, Kristen Wiig delivers a fine supporting performance as a fence-straddling villain, and there are some nice sentiments worked in during the film's closing moments. But, compared to this film's far superior predecessor, director Patty Jenkins's ambitious but disjointed and flawed offering represents a big step backward for the franchise and its future (especially at a time when it can ill afford it). And, by the way, what was with that outfit Ms. Wiig wore in the closing sequence? It looked like a wardrobe reject from the movie version of "Cats." Expand

Literally the worst DC movie yet. A complete disgrace to the first one. Bored AF, no action...

Movie was incredibly boring. Bad writing, sub par acting. Last disappointment of 2020. Don’t waste your time with this movie. I’m just glad I didn’t pay for it in the theater.

Man I liked the first one but this is obviously a money grab.
Its beyond silly and so poorly edited its ridiculous. There is literally a 10 min. foot race that goes on and on and on till you feel exhausted like you actually got a work out.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. NO. DC please understand that NO POLITICS, thought you learnt your lesson from batwoman 2.the movie was too long, full of unnecessary things. 3. Max's son's acting was 0 seriously though get that kid acting lessons.
4. There was not enough time for Cheetah she was only shown for one clip which was a battle she lost.
5.The trailer made it look SOOO interesting which made it even worse.
6. Acting was okay but writing was horrible.
7.The third movie better be worth this one.
8. There was no point of the gold suit or Diana swinging on lightning.

“Bubblegum pop entertainment” at the very least, must still be able to stand up to light scrutiny. This flick does not.

The first movie wasn’t amazing but was an enjoyable watch. This.....I’ve no idea what was the point of this movie

CGI was horrible and giving traits to WW she didn't have originally put me off for the movie.

Film is boring, I barely watched it all in one go (2h30min). Do not live up to the original one in any way. Story is boring, convoluted and not interesting. 1984 vibe is only felt in the beginning (mall scene). - and that is all I have to say about the movie itself. I'm not giving it lower score because of actors, they definitely tried... Pine and Gadot duo is fantastic but still lacking something from the original, Pascal acting too is not that bad, but it is too little to safe entire movie. Rest of the cast is just forgettable. Film only for hardcore fans.

A confused, contrived story held together not by character development or conflict and resolution, but one giant, gaping plot hole after another. After a colourful, entertaining opening - in which we get to see Robin Wright return as Antiope and remindingus how fun the first movie was, unfortunately all too briefly - the film devolves into a plodding 70 minutes of dull nothing. There is absolutely no need for this movie to be two and a half hours. Maybe there was a well meaning sentiment to make an 80s style superhero movie, but it picked the wrong ones. This was most certainly not Superman 1 and 2. This stared like Superman 3 then devolved into Superman 4. A steaming hot mess. Expand
