The way this movie has to refer back to feminism and SJW propaganda is ridiculous. And of course, most of the performances are strange and poorly miscast. There’s numerous plot hole and things that don’t make sense, and the entire film was a complete bore fest from start to finish. The only redeeming qualities this film has are Gal Gadot’s wonder woman and Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor, both of whom performed very well and were somewhat entertaining for the first half of the movie. I can gracefully say though that this of the worst movie in the DCEU by a huge margin. Expand

Im amazed reviews are as high as they are. Never trusting rotten tomatoes again .google needs to get clear of them. Quickly. I have now idea how to account for the positive reviews. Specifically: there is no consistency world building, no clear motivation for anything (apart from the villain's motive for being bad), characters, items, cars appear from nowhere. Rules shift incoherantly. Pacing is bad. The action scenes are hard to follow even if you accept their blatant omission of the laws of physics ( for example a machine gun barrel is bent by a normal person .) It's a crazy quilt and tour de force of incompetance. Hopefully there ais no more work anywhere for whoever was in charge. Expand

Also part of that score is in tribute to trying to put a Trump in a movie to show his psychosis from an objective point of view.

That said -- this film was as pleasurable as a frat boy puking into your mouth. Just past the halfway point where Lord was pitching his new 'success' to his son -- I wanted to walk out. The problem is it was my home and there was nowhere to walk to. SHAZAM? AQUAMAN? HARLEY QUINN? Little 'nothing' DCU movies that were 100 times better. The first WONDER WOMAN? 10,000 times better.

The film reminds of me sequels that were made in the 70s. They'd have a hit like POSEIDON or PLANET OF THE APES and release a low budget piece of garbage in a cynical cash grab. "Even if half the people see it we make twice the money of the first film!"

I promise you the REAL budget for this was under 50 million. Shatner's STAR TREK V was better than this. One of the Star Wars prequels (the middle one) was better. Even JUSTICE LEAGUE was more watchable somehow.

I will NEVER rewatch this film. I turned the dishwasher on halfway through because I hoped it would drown it out somehow.

As a crazy big fan of the first film I'll say this film should have never been released. It's THAT bad.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. 1 point for the beauty of Gal Gadot.

A broken teenage girl fairy tale riddled with poor logic and woke messages.

- It’s an action movie, yet the movie had minimal actions. One of the reasons is that Kristen Wig, the actor of Cheetah, is not an action film actor.

- The movie could happen in any year. It made zero use of the year 1984.

- Diana’s mother didn’t want Diana to learn to fight in the first movie, yet she allows Diana to compete in a fighting/sports competition in this one.

- Diana had no problem with her teammates using guns in the first movie, yet she says “I hate guns” in this one. Pure propaganda.

- The antagonist wanted to be number one in the world. He wanted to rule the world, not to destroy the world. Yet the movie made him destroy the world.

- Cheetah in this movie is set to be as strong as Wonder Woman. Yet she can be electrocuted, but Diana can’t. They were both in the water, connected by the same cable.

- Poor choice of actress of Cheetah. Her wish was to be as smart, strong and sexy as Diana. Kristen Wig is 47 and Gal Gadot is 35. Wig never displayed the same level of smartness, strength and sexiness as Gadot in this movie.

- The movie had a white guy attacking Kristen Wig’s Barbara character like any person will ever want to rape a uncharming person like Barbara.

- In the end people just act like the world wasn’t almost destroyed by almost everyone’s wish, and just lived with it.

- It was 1984, yet the movie had the actors saying Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas in the end.

- Regardless of all the BS, the movie managed to last for 150 minutes.

Strip all the wokeness and maybe the movie can have more time to tell the story better.

Unfortunately this was probably the worst movies I have seen in the last decade. The first 30 minutes was actually quite good, but then the story line just degenerated from there. Clearly there was an issue with the writing. I think the actors did the best they could with the material given, but overall I was amazed at how poor this movie was.

For anyone who loved the 2017 movie, this would be nothing but a terrible disappointment. This movie should start with a disclaimer saying "Please turn off your brains for the next 2 hours and 35 minutes or you might end up with an excruciating headache." The script is totally inconsistent and literally nothing makes any sense. The very first scene itself is completely inconsistent with the premise set up in the prequel. I see a lot of reviewers regarding that scene as one of the best scenes of the movie, but clearly, they have forgotten or never watched the 2017 movie. As a child, Diana was not allowed to partake in martial sports with the other Amazonians and the Queen was especially against it. Here in this movie, we're forced to see the Queen proudly watching child Diana compete in the deadly warriorship olympics. Utterly distasteful and nonsensical.
And then the actual movie begins, which really has nothing at all to do with that first scene. The plot is pointless, immature, and illogical. The characters lack dimension and conviction. Crucial details are just omitted or explained away with illogical dumb explanations. The motivations of the villains are completely unclear. For the climax, the threat seems to be of a nuclear war, but given the film's premise, such a war would not be in the interest of either Maxwell or Barbara. But they won't stop it. It's utter nonsense. BTW, the story of Barbara makes ZERO sense. At the end of the movie, you might just feel pity for her for the way she got treated in the movie. The ending sucks. No questions are answered - what happens to the stone finally - what happens to Barbara - nothing. There's just a random Christmas scene at the end that again, has nothing to with anything. It was July when they flew to Cairo. And now, it's Christmas. Deal with it!
The entire plot of the wishing stone is just SO BEYOND DUMB. It's so unoriginal it hurts your brain if you think about it. The stone grants one wish, and so Maxwell wishes to be the stone itself so that he can himself have infinite wishes. Oh really!? I mean there was a skit in the FRIENDS show where Rachel mocks the guy who says "if I had a wish I would wish for more wishes." THAT WAS IN 1994. People were so tired of this cliche back in 1994 that comedy shows were writing jokes about it. And that's exactly what Patty Jenkins' big fat idea is for a 2020 movie supposed to be a blockbuster.
The film is so immature. Devoid of depth, philosophy, or anything of substance. It grapples with a message that it doesn't understand. It makes abhorrent assumptions about the nature of humans that everyone, and yes LITERALLY EVERYONE on the planet is greedy and selfish and destructive. Throwing the whole "there is good in humans" message of the last film into the trash bin. The writing is ridiculously child-like and yet I can't think of a child who would actually find this movie interesting. There's no thrill, and the anti-climax is literally a drawn-out monologue!
It's a disgrace. Honestly, everyone involved in making this film should be deeply ashamed of themselves for unleashing this garbage on the fandom. It's especially disgusting because it's supposed to follow up on the 2017 film, which as far as I am concerned, was a great movie. I loved it whole-heartedly and had big expectations for the sequel. This didn't just disappoint my expectations, it even went back in time to ruin the first film with that garbage opening scene. Seriously, shame on ya'll.
I found the attempt to emphasize Wonder Woman's super-power of truth over her strength endearing, and the performances of Gal and Kristen are as good as they can be. The script isn't their fault, after all. So that amounts to the 1 star. Nothing else deserves any credit.
Patty was clearly so obsessed with the 1978 Superman kinda films that she forgot it's 2020. WW84 wants to be Superman so hard that it even forces in a scene where WW is learning to fly just like Superman! Which is just as dumb and pointless as it can get. I mean, again - it's 2020!! People expect, NEED, movies with far more maturity now. Patty, please leave the writing to people who know how to do it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I can't believe the same director and many of the same writers that made the first movie made this garbage. I think this may be the single worst DC live action movie that has been made. The characters and the plot seem like they're taken directly from a teenagers fan fiction rather than from real Hollywood writers.

Every character in this movie is a terrible human being except Chris Pine's character (kinda) and the son of the main villain. Everyone. Is Diana or another woman walking down the street? Every single man they pass will start sexually harassing them. I was a police officer for nearly a decade. I know full well these types of guys exist and are more common than they should be. They're still a small percentage of people though, and Hollywood's insistence on portraying all men as evil is just getting old.

*****spoilers from here on*****

The plot holes in the movie are hard to get past. They're so obvious they completely ruin the movie. Diana's powers are extremely inconsistent as well. When she's fighting the convoy she has the strength to push a huge truck sideways at extremely high speeds down the highway. Then a few minutes later while hanging off the side of a truck, Diana can't kick a truck to crush her over and just gives up, willing to be crushed to death. Kicking that truck over should be 100x easier than what she JUST did, or she could at just flip up onto the top of the truck she's hanging from. Diana's choice in this scene is just bizarre. Later in the movie the main villain starts granting wishes to everyone. These wishes are cursed and can be renounced. Diana's plan is to broadcast to the world (magically I guess, since she JUST destroyed the camera equipment) is to appeal to everyone's humanity to renounce their wishes. If this movie wasn't written by idiots, they would have had all wishes reversed when the main villain eventually reversed his. But no, people kept renouncing after that. What kind of naive writer thinks all those people are going to renounce their wishes? No, human beings aren't nearly that altruistic. Millions of people would think, that's for everyone else. It wouldn't hurt if I kept mine. I mean, Diana just physically fought her friend over this exact issue! On top of this, the reversals are very inconsistent. Some areas are still super trashed, while some areas are magically fixed. Worse, some actions not even connected to wishes were reversed.

Then there's the ending, where Diana meets the man she was willing to erase from existence so her boyfriend could live again. What does she do? She flirts with him! What a psychopath! This doesn't even cover all of the plot holes I found, much less the ones I read about online after watching it. I'm just tired of wasting any more of my time than I already have on this terrible movie. I truly hope the writers put SOME effort into writing a decent script for the third movie. What a disappointment.

The sloppy writing and completely incoherent plot ruins this movie. Things and rules are established though we both know that magic shouldn't exist in this DC universe from the other movies, but still there are rules. However, the movie will break its own rules for the sake of progressing the movie, and since we all know everything will be fine since we have Justice League and Batman v Superman in a later timeline, the stakes in 84 don't matter. The movie is to long and to conveluted to make you care since the outcome is already known. Sadly as I like all the other DC movies up to this point, this will not be a rewatch and we'll just pretend this never happened. Expand

Bad CGI, Terrible story, A villain who shows up in the last 3rd of the movie and then goes away quickly.

But it's not just bad. It's actually morally and emotionally reprehensible.
So (Spoilers)

I would remind everyone who just watched this movie, that we have a woman who has been unable to move past the death of a person for almost 75 years. (Like a child) And then just wishes her dead boyfriend replace another guy in his body. not caring what happened to the other guy's consciousness or soul. (Like a Sociopath) And in fact, using the guy's body to have sex with her dead boyfriend.... (Like a rapist)

Seriously I have no idea how this made it out the door.

The director really undid any credit from the first movie, and I am sure Warner is claiming this is all due to Covid-19 and counting on the bailout to hide this failure. Given the 10s, the shills are out but nothing can cover-up how bad this is. Hell, they had to keep Gal showing a lot of skin during the entire movie to keep any interest and distract attention from things like the lasso dissapearing from both her hands and suddenly being coiled on her him in 1/10th of a second, or being normally dressed to being in WW costume in same amount of time (after she hops out of the car mid movie). First off, the plot is ridiculous, even more than a normal superhero movie. There were stupid plot holes and "rules" for everyone's abilities that were flat out ignored or changed when it suited the necessity to make things blow up. The action sequences had laughable CGI. The trailer made it seem like there would be 80s-type nostalgia, but there really wasn't anything to make it "80s." This could have taken place in the 90s or 2000s. This was a total dumpster fire of a movie. Even with it being "free" on HBO Max, it's a waste of time. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Yes, it’s a super hero movie, yes it’s PG13, so somewhat aimed at kids. It’s also cheesy (in both eye-rolling and fun ways). It has a terrible, convoluted plot and all the trappings of the super hero blockbuster ilk. Oh yes and it’s really long. But none of those are the real problems with Wonder Woman 1984. The real problems are in the way the characters and story are written. At the heart of it is the flatness of Wonder Woman as a two dimensional character. She pines (pun intended) for a single dude she loves but shows absolutely no passion for. Her character expresses virtually no humor. She never seems to get angry or express emotions with much intensity. By contrast Kristen Wiig’s character is given too much relatability. She’s downtrodden, overlooked and under appreciated. She’s funny, self deprecating and good at her job. She wants to feel empowered and as the viewer you can’t help but hope she succeeds. You also understand her motives which makes her a simpathetic villain who is much more interesting that the titular heroine. Similarly Pedro Pascal’s Maxwell Lord is a (mostly) relatable villain. He wants to succeed and makes some terrible decisions to do so. But his character is ultimately redeemed as is Wiig’s when Wonder Woman basically talks them out of being bad. Yeah. No big final showdown - no punitive ass-kicking here. She momentarily talks the world out of being selfish via mass media. More importantly, in this part of the DC universe there’s the opportunity for strong female super heroes that girls and kids can look up to. In Wonder Woman 1984 the two female leads are either dispassionate and boring or evil and vain. This is where Chris Pine’s character Steve comes in, making an example of self sacrifice to move the story forward and save the day. That’s right - the game-changers in a movie called Wonder Woman 1984 are both men. And it’s a shame. The least I was expecting was for the heroine to actually fulfill the role of hero here. I kept hoping that perhaps Barbara Ann Minerva (Wiig) would come to her senses and team up with Wonder Woman to vanquish Lord and set the world straight. But instead, Chris Pine‘s character sacrifices himself again enabling the world to be saved. And Pedro Pascal’s ”villain”? He comes to his senses and abdicates his evil power (of.......granting...wishes?!?) to be a good dad to his kid. Which kind of sucked the wind out of this mess of a movie altogether. The villain turns out to be a huge nothingburger. One can’t help but think moviegoers everywhere deserve a better movie than this. But women and girls definitely deserve better written characters to believe in. Characters who are fully realized women who can stand and fall on their own. And those characters deserve better plots in which to exist. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie WW84 compares to Superman 3 & 4 bundled together, since it’s a long and boring 2.5 hrs movie with no substance, no storyline, no bad guys to make it worthwhile. If I had gone to see this in theatres, I would have walked out well before it was over. Keep in mind JL is from present time but the very first WW is from World War I, when Diana rescued US pilot Captain Steve Trevor crashing off the Themysciran coast. This second movie is from 1984. And there are no god-like evil in this made-to-tv sorta cartoonish-ness film. Just a “dream stone” that grants wishes. Diana wishes for her deceased lover, Steve Trevor, to return, causing his soul to take over another man's body. And Barbara (an insecure woman who idolizes and envies Diana) wishes to become strong like Diana. A business man Max Lord (the Mandalorian guy) wishes to become the stone to gain its power. In other words he becomes a Genie Who also can take whatever he desires in return. Sort of like the horror movie “The Wishmaster”. I think Jenkins (the director) was thinking of Donald Trump as in, what would he do if he came across a powerful stone that grants any wish. And the fact that Patty Jenkins mentioned several times this movie needed to be watched in the big screen is a joke! Compared to big blockbuster films from Bay, Nolan, Spielberg, Jackson, Lucas and Verbinski, this WW84 looks pretty cartoonishly to me. Expand

What a waste of time, talent and money. The writing is so awful; both antagonists are weak and ill conceived.

Absolute waste of time. I had high expectations after the 1st but this was a let down. The movie was pointlessly slow throughout and boring. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The movie's premise is so insane and nonsensical that it has a hard time setting up constraints to wrangle in its own potential plot. The wishing plot is impossible to make a movie out of because the entire movie could be solved at any point by the right character making the right wish? Why didn't Chris Pine just wish for Madalorian's wish never to have happened? Why didn't Mandalorian have someone wish that nobody could stop him?

A few questions for you to ask yourself -
How do renounced/cancelled wishes work? Does everything get undone from that point in time onwards, or does it work as if the wish never happened?
Why doesn't Diana ever use her invisibility powers other than one time for one cool scene that they never explain or come back to?
Why was the entire beginning of the movie included?
Why do the people go from referring to Diana as a mysterious woman who nobody has pictures of and may or may not exist to saying to each other "where's Wonder Woman?!?" by the end of the movie?
And the explanation for Mando granting wishes to everyone across the world is nonsense - that particles will be beamed down from the TV studio, and those particles "touching people" counts as physical contact with him... He might as well go around spitting on people and telling them to wish for a million bucks.

The movie world was also just not immersive. Namely, when Diana walks through the city in chaos - it looks too staged.

Also when Mandalorian wished to turn into the stone, he should have literally morphed into the stone.

All men are bad, all women are good. Tired of politics being inserted into every movie it just pulls you out of the world.

This is the worst movie I've seen in a long time. Story makes no sense, incoherent dialogue, terrible acting, **** special effects...and so long! I want those 2.5 hours of my life back. So disappointing, since the first one was great.

Not great at all! Boring, confusing and an hour too long. The worst part of all, it is called 1984... and not one 80s song!!

Pedro Pascal's Max Lord is the only good part of the movie. Kristen Wiig was great as well, but her character lacked a complete character arc.
After an amazing first movie, 1984 somehow manages to redo everything its predecessor did that was right.
