I loved it, would 100% rewatch, and i'm already dying for the sequels!
Let's be clear, this is not the Lord of the Rings, this is a freaking WARCRAFT MOVIE. It's violent, it's beautiful, and it's deep.

This movie succeeds in giving the viewer a universal enough approach to please fans AND newcomers. They did not try to send us their whole bestiary and mythology in the first place. The story is deep enough to keep us thrilled, the character design is faithful to the franchise, with its quality (omg orcs) and flaws (playmobil look), without any compromise, and that is why it is a good movie. It resisted the blockbuster call that so many fell for.… Expand

Must seen by fantasy lovers. This movie is awesome. Even if you're not a warcraft fan, is still enjoyable. A great fantasy movie for everyone. I don't know why "professional critics" hate this film.

Critics are pretty wrong with this movie, it was amazing! As a long time player of Blizzard's Warcraft games I feel this is a darn good start to hopefully a long line of sequels!

In my opinion, this isn't something that really interests me. While it's clear that a lot of care has went into the movie, I feel it isn't for me. It's more so of a fan service movie. Which there's nothing wrong with that.

I'm a fan of the Warcraft saga and went to see the movie with four other people who know nothing about the game. We all liked it and thought it was way better than expected from the trailers.

PROS: - Probably the best CGI and VFX in theI'm a fan of the Warcraft saga and went to see the movie with four other people who know nothing about the game. We all liked it and thought it was way better than expected from the trailers.

PROS:

- Probably the best CGI and VFX in the history of cinema. The Motion Capture for the Orcs was fantastic and deserves an Oscar for sure.
- Places, armors, magic and everything were created with care to look as similar to the game as possible.
- The plot is based on the original Warcraft (1994 strategy game). There are a couple of changes here and there, but nothing major.
- No boring, slow or dead moments. There is always something happening.
- From the trailers you could expect a love story between Orcs and Humans, but actually it's just a hint (less than Bruce Banner and Black Widow in the last Avengers movie).
- Lots of Easter Eggs for the die-hard fans of the game.

SO-SO:

- Acting was ok. Not exceptional, but also not as bad as most people want you to believe (for comparision, Kylo Ren from the latest Star Wars was worse).
- The soundtrack was good, but not great. Maybe because Warcraft players are used to hear truly amazing soundtracks from the game.
- The major plot twist is hinted in the first half of the movie and everyone could guess it, even people who don't know the lore.

CONS:

- The first 30 minutes of the movie are so fast paced that some people didn't understand what was going on. That's because director Duncan Jones was forced to cut a lot of scenes and ended up with a 123 movie instead of 160. Fortunately, an Extended Edition is planned for DVD/BluRay release.
- Some major characters from the lore have a very small role in the movie and do basically nothing.
- The plot can be confusing to people who never played any of the Warcraft game.

I would give the movie 8,5/10 and recommend it to anyone, not only Warcraft fans. It's not LOTR but it doesn't want to be, it's a completely different story.… Expand

What is with all these "Professional Reviews"? Even more stupid then the videogame journalism going on.

As a long time Warcraft fan (Reign of Chaos and The Frozen Throne) I absolutely loved the movie! You could just feel the Warcraft world atmosphere! I am going to see it again soon and can't wait for sequels.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie is a Warcraft movie. For the Warcraft fans, GO SEE THIS MOVIE! For the non fans or people interested? GO SEE IT. This movie absolutely nails all aspects related to Warcraft. The acting was incredible, from all sides of the war. You could feel the effect of the powerful acting, you could feel the emotions that the characters themselves are feeling in the most powerful of ways. The art and design, was spot on! The magic was designed perfectly, the costumes and looks of the characters were perfect! The movie truly payed homage to the Warcraft lore and kept to the story to a T.

My only gripe with the movie, was the fact that to make it easier on people, you definitely needed a VERY BASIC understanding of the Warcraft lore. knowing a bit of the lore makes a lot of this easier to digest, cause as we all know, warcraft has a very convoluted story. But even for the non fans, as long as you pay attention and watch, the movie is still very easy to follow and get in to. But because of that, it misses the 10/10 just slightly.

Overall, this movie is well worth any Warcraft fans time and money. You will not be disappointed, and I know I wasn't.

Good job Blizzard, I'm proud!… Expand

Sure, it's not lord of the rings nor star wars and it's never going to be that, the story and lore is just waay to complicated for that to happen. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT listen to "professional" critics giving this movie anything below a 50%. Most of them (especially the kotaku one) read as if they've based their review on the trailer alone.

All in all

-Visuals: 9/10 (they made the orcs look badass)

-Sound: 7/10 (overall decent but that first look at Stormwind was brilliant)

-Story: 8/10 (fateful adaptation without too much ham)

-Acting: 8/10 (stellar acting from the main cast and more impartantly no cringe worthy moments, seriously they could have botched it up so badly with the orcs but in the end they turned out to be the better actors of the movie)… Expand

Don't trust the bad reviews. The movie is not a cinematic masterpiece but it is quite enjoyable and a good intro to the Warcraft world.

Having only played some of World of Warcraft and Hearthstone, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked this movie. I saw this film a few weeks prior to the US release in Germany and I was so frustrated that the user reviews were locked for this film. The Critics were totally off base on this one.

The film is not perfect but I enjoyed it enough to pay for a second round at the theater. I didn't really connect to the characters but the film is really able to sell the world. I felt immersed in a beautiful cinematic universe with believable fantasy wildlife and magical powers.

The action was brilliant, The Magic was beautiful and the Overall quality of this film was really high.

Honestly this film is a 7/10 for me, I'm giving it 9 to help the average as the Critics genuinely angered me on this one.… Expand

Okay stop everyone for a second, is WARCRAFT a good movie? well yeah, or else I wouldn't have seen it twice already, I see the points if you don't know the lore or anything about the story, I will be hard to catch what is going on the film,Okay stop everyone for a second, is WARCRAFT a good movie? well yeah, or else I wouldn't have seen it twice already, I see the points if you don't know the lore or anything about the story, I will be hard to catch what is going on the film, but not really if you ask me, this movie makes you think, use the brain ( what are the names on the different characters etc.) First time I saw the movie, it was with my dad, he hated it (said that there was too much magic and no emotion between the characters in the movie, I just think he hates it because it is a movie based a video game story) second time I saw it with two friends who didn't gave a S*** about the genre until they saw the movie, after they saw it, they told me, "hey, we wanna read up on the lore" I was surprised.

"Critical reviewers" stop comparing this movie to Lord of the RINGS or Game of Thrones, that is like comparing The Walking Dead with Fast and Furious, you simply can't. this movie is good, a bit confusing, let me make you a check list instead.

Soundtrack = Amazing (capture the essence of Warcraft music)
Easter Eggs = A lot of them (really good if you are a wow player)
Story = it just tells the Story from Warcraft 1 but can be a bit confusing (when you think about, the Warcraft LORE is HUGE so to fit that into a movie is really hard, they done a great job, but it could be better done)
Actors = this is hard, they all do a great job, Travis Fimmel could have done it better, that is about it
OVERALL this movie is 7,5

SO what are you waiting for? stop reading my review and watch the movie, you will love it, AND we all hope for a sequel, I wanna see Arthas Menethil story in a warcaft.… Expand

If you're a fan of Warcraft and you go in expecting to be entertained, it's mostly good. If you're a movie snob expecting the next Citizen Kane, you'll hate it. The effects they used to make the actors look like orcs are very well done. MostIf you're a fan of Warcraft and you go in expecting to be entertained, it's mostly good. If you're a movie snob expecting the next Citizen Kane, you'll hate it. The effects they used to make the actors look like orcs are very well done. Most of the acting is pretty good. My main complaint here is just that the original plot lines explored in the movie aren't the most compelling stories that the Warcraft series has to tell. Of course, they had no choice but to start with these plots, though. We can only hope that they continue making these movies so that we get to see the story of the Lich King on the big screen.

Some have also noted that the movie lacks some of the humor of the games, but the story is not where the humor was. The humor was always in the mundane interactions you had with your armies. You'd click on a unit, and they might eventually say something silly like, "You're good looking for a human!" or "Hee Hee that tickles". It really wasn't THAT funny. I think a serious approach to the story is the only way to do it any justice in a movie format.… Expand

Iv been playing Warcraft since Orcs Vs Humans. I have been dying to see a movie be made out of this. The streak of games turning into movies has been broken! This movie was defiantly made for the Fans. Sure they added some detail for the average non-warcraft player which i understand. But they will enjoy this movie without having to play the game. HOWEVER! they did change some stuff from the main story line of the first game. I found it to be acceptable. I enjoyed this movie far better then star wars the force awakens to be honest. If you want a movie like Lord of the Rings but with more fantasy and 2 sides of the story. This is a movie for you… Expand

This is a pretty great movie, if your not confused.
Quite simply, your going to have a great time if you have some kind of a grasp on the story.

I, having only played Hearthstone and wow's free 20 levels/week, don't have much experience with the series, and only really knew the overall gyst, but i loved it.
The cgi was also good, although it did have some pretty noticably bad moments. The orcs are amazingly done, and the animals, but there are one or two scenes that look meh.

if you absolutely know nothing about it, you probably won't like it (like the majority of critics),
if you know a bit, and get the general kind of story, you'll probably like it.
either way cgi was a problem in a few scenes… Expand

A terrible disappointment that not only fails to capture the hearts based on the video game it's played on but also seems obvious that the cast and crew were oblivious on what they were even doing in the first place.
