Disclaimer: I've played WoW on and off for over 10 years.

That said, I went into this movie with low expectations and came out with a silly smile on my face and a desperate hope they make a sequel(s).

First point: The CGI was amazing. From the magical effects, to the Orcs, creatures and landscapes, this was superbly done. It looked like the new standard for CGI.

Second Point: The acting. It was solid when it mattered, but fell a bit flat in other areas that made the film feel more like a B movie than a blockbuster hit. Overall, though, I felt that Anduin Lothar, Medivh, Garona and each of the actors who played major roles as orcs were phenomenal.

Last Point: The story. While it deviated from the lore a good bit, I enjoyed how they brought everything together and didn't stick to any tropes of good overcoming evil. Warcraft is well known for its history of painting orcs as more than just savage beasts and antagonists, but instead showing they have a good side, an honest side, and a deep value of honor - all of which were very well conveyed through this film.

Wrap Up: It's not going to win any Oscars, but if you are a fan of Warcraft, and even if you are just a fan of fantasy, this film will more than likely be well worth your dime and I highly suggest it's a well-made investment.

It is not perfect, of course. But, bad as Critics say it is, it is not by far! It is everything I expected a Warcraft Film to be. I am not even a Warcraft-Fan, I know nothing about it or the Video-Games. I just like Fantasy and I love it.

The acting was almost laughably bad and most of the human costumes looked cheesy and plastic-y, which didn't help with overall immersion. They did a decent job with the orcs, although Gul'dan looked rather odd.
I'm glad the attempt was at least made to make Medivh seem mysterious and powerful, but I feel they failed at a proper portrayal. As a whole his character felt silly and underdeveloped.
Overall the action sequences were enjoyable but the film was far too cheesy for my taste.

This movie will not leave you felling like there was a happy ending like other movies because that's how it was in the first war but keep that in mind and be prepared to be unhappy how things pan out. This movie begins what will setup of a better squeal. Not every movie has to have a happy ending and not all things will be revealed. A movie by a fan, for the fans, with much love.

As an avid Warcraft player (since Reign of Chaos), I enjoyed this film immensely. I can understand that if you're not familiar with the Warcraft universe this film might be a bit confusing. There is about 20 minutes of exposition to help those who want some back story, but it might not be enough for someone who doesn't know the beginnings of Azeroth. The movie is based on Warcraft: Orcs and Humans, the very first game in the series, with a few tweaks. There are some alterations in the overall lore (Dalaran is already in the sky, Garona and Medivh are not in love, Orgrim was under Blackhand's command and defected much later, etc.), but for all major plot points, everything stays true to the game. The film is loaded with easter eggs for fans (Lion's Pride Inn makes an appearance, the language barrier between Horde and Alliance is touched upon, etc. kek!), and while the script was a bit trite at some points (which it should be, because the Alliance is hokey at times), the film as a whole was very well done. The orcs in particular were exceptional.

I really hope this film does well; I desperately want a Reign of Chaos/Frozen Throne film! I highly recommend this film to anyone who enjoys high fantasy, but obviously and especially to Warcraft fans. I don't know what film the critics saw, but it wasn't the one I just watched. Excellent adaptation for the medium. Loktar ogar! Blood and Thunder!

I wished that the movie was longer and you can see that it was cramped at times to fit a specific time frame, but director's cut will be even more epic with added 40 minutes of screen time. I'm not sure why they made a decision to cut this movie by 40 minutes, but it's a shame. However, this doesn't mean that the movie is bad.

Don't read the reviews of these so called critics who basically destroyed the score of Warcraft on Metacritic. Everyone who watched this movie with me that day and left the cinema said "this is one of the best movies that I saw in a long time". And these people are slightly familiar with Warcraft lore and universe. It says a lot. Can't wait for more of this!

I found the movie to be completely lackluster. The pacing was horrible and the plot only made sense if you're a fan. If a viewer is required to go to a third party media (games, books) to understand the plot of a movie, it's simply a bad movie. Warcraft was made simply for the spectacle of being made.

Blizzard had an opportunity to take a very lore rich franchise - as rich as any established literary franchise - and expand its influence but instead chose to make a fan service film with CGI that we'll likely look back and laugh at in a couple years. If you're not an existing fan, ignore all these highly rated reviews because, like the movie, they are written for and by Warcraft fans who are incapable of understanding that a review is inherently a comparison between other movies in the genre. Putting this movie in the same class as other high fantasy films (think Avatar) is simply a joke.

Given its niche audience, it would have been better off as a worldwide straight-to-digital release. Expect the Blu-ray to come out the same time as the next WoW expansion (in a mere two and a half months) because if there's one thing Blizzard excels at, it's marketing and hype.

I have played every Blizzard title to date, and I was not sure whether to watch this movie after the dismal reviews given by the critics.

But after watching the movie, I believe this honest adaptation of the Warcraft lore sits right up there in terms of movie quality with the likes of Avengers and all the other Marvel movie titles that came out recently.

In terms of movie quality, let's break it down.

First, casting. There is nothing to criticise here at a high level. I did not get a sense of "Oh man, they should have really cast another actor for this role". Understand that the casting choices would have been influenced by the China ownership of the related studio behind the movie, but this did not show itself during the movie. Daniel Wu, a noteable Chinese actor was not recognizable in the movie. A testament perhaps to the good acting behind the green, in both senses of the word. The key roles were played to 8/10 standard across all key characters, and then some. Well done to the casting for both protagonists along the Alliance/Horde divide. The only really familiar face to the movie/tv series western watching audience would be the Preacher lead in the role of the King. And this is only because the Preacher series recently begun. The only key role which I felt had a questionable casting was Ben Foster. I use the word "questionable" in a neutral stance. Ben Foster brought his own style to the role, which departs from what I imagined the character, an old, legendary wizard, to be. Ben Foster brought humanity into the role, of which fragility came along as baggage. This could have been a directorial decision. But I would have preferred more majesty, finesse, and flair. But I believe the producers made up for that in terms of costume design, which was about high sevens out of 10. Nevertheless, Ben Foster's acting definitely brought depth and power to the key scenes of the movie. I could write pages on the performances of the other major characters on the Alliance side, but suffice to say, the polish and gravitas was there. A last word before moving on to the Horde - Travis Fimmel has successfully brought himself to (or at least close to) the forefront of the Hollywood A-list leading men category with this performance. This is not immediately apparent from the low critical acclaim, but in this age of digital social word of mouth, the paradigm has shifted, the likes of which none of the studio executives have seen - even with the recent success of the comic book to movie franchises. This is because lore owners - gamers in this case, have the final say. And I am but one of many. And this is really, for all intents and purposes, the first game to movie "franchise". I will take those quotation marks down in due course. Let's move on to the horde side acting/casting decisions.

Surprisingly, in a really delightful way, there was more soul to the orcs then what I had in mind. Or more accurately, what I believed was possible. This is a compliment to the actors, script writers, and directors as I have been gaming with Orcs for many years and not once have I really had in my mind the "softness", for a lack of better word, which should be given to these characters. The balance between the aforementioned "softness", against the concepts of "honour", "brute strength", and "savageness" was almost close to perfection on screen. I use the word perfection liberally here. A sold 8 out of 10 for the horde-side deliverance. Note that I never once thought of the words "green screen", or "CGI" while watching. In hindsight, the only thought that came to my mind while writing that sentence was a scene of a CGI-generated gigantic wolf. Not going to psychoanalyze why, but I will state that the movie was very well done (8.5/10) in terms of cinematic beauty (landscaping, creatures, architecture).

Next, since i have written such as long winded piece already, I want to touch on comparisons and benchmarks and not continue drivelling on about direction, pacing, and all that. If you compare this movie to recent movies, it comes out strong. The most recent movie in my mind which is a good comparison is of course, the X-men apocalypse title. Comparisons are difficult to do because there are so many different facets to delve into. But overall, I would rate Warcraft slightly above the latter. Please remember that that is by no means an impartial comparison as I have a strong bond with the characters and mythology in Warcraft. But I also have an almost equal journey with the Marvel universe. So take from that what you will.

Overall: Solid 9/10.

And for a movie adaptation of a video game, that alone is an achievement. The most enjoyable parts of the movie are the scenery, combat, and the sense of world building as if this movie is a stepping stone for something much bigger. Durotan and Khadgar are both enjoyable characters. The downsides include Lothar and Llane's unenthusiastic acting, the somewhat forced romance, and a certain "death scene" that should be emotional, but doesn't really hit the right notes. Also, the movie could afford to be a little longer to fill in some important details, like the Orc's history before Gul'dan's corruption, as well as explaining who the Draenei are (the blue people sacrificed early in the movie). Overall, still enjoyable and worth watching from an outsider's perspective. If you're a Warcraft or Blizzard fan, I doubt you'll need any other reason to watch it. Expand

If you are a fan of Warcraft, be it the online game, the strategy game, or if you are just a fan of fantasy in general. Orcs, elves, magic and all that great stuff. You will find enjoyment in this movie.

And while the movie could have given some characters more development and it stumbles with pacing during the first 30 minutes of the movie, which is not really odd as they apparently cut about 40 minutes of footage for the theatrical release. The movie does so many things right.

The action is amazing, as it blends the two races of Orcs and Humans against each other in very interesting ways. The orcs fight almost naked with just brute strength and brutality, while the Humans clad in awesome looking armor, fight with more agility and finesse. Mix in some truly great looking magic into the battles, and you get some really entertaining action sequences.

The characters was mostly good and interesting, with a few stand out characters, pretty mcuh everyone on the Orc side of things. Toby Kebbell as Durotan, Anna Galvin as Draka, Robert Kazinsky as Orgrim, Clancy Brown as Blackhand and Daniel Wu as Gul'dan was just brilliantly cast and their actors deserves commendations as they played their parts so well. And the CGI animations for the orcs was just spectacular, one of the first shots in this movie just looks completely real to me. Probably the best motion capture CGI I have ever seen so far, oscar worthy special effects for sure.

The characters on the human side could have used some much needed character development though, but they did their roles well enough and I thought the acting was good for all of them. But they did not stand out as much as the actors playing the Orcs did, besides perhaps Ben Foster as Medivh, he was fairly good and I feel they developed his character more than the others.

The music score is really great with a theme that is going to stick with me for some time. It really fits in with Warcraft and they even put in some snippets of music from the games here and there which is very nostalgic. The small easter eggs was also very welcomed as a fan. The visuals itself are so on point in this movie, with such vibrant and colorful shots that just screams pure fantasy and more importantly, it just looks like Warcraft.

I got to see real versions of locations I have visited in the games that the movie is based on. And that made me have a sense of presence in a movie that I have not really had before. It was like walking into my first Horde barracks back when World of Warcraft opened its doors for the first time, being able to see how it actually looked like inside the buildings I created when I played the old strategy games. And now I got to see how some of these things would look like almost completely real.

So yes, I greatly enjoyed this movie. A solid 8/10 for me. If they release that extended edition I have heard about, it might fix my biggest issues with the movie and bring it up to a 9/10 or even a 10/10. I am very biased and I don't deny it. But this movie was made for me and the fans of Warcraft. This movie is a love letter to fans by fans.

Professional critics measure movies by medieval standards and as such are of no value to those living in 2016. That being said, this is one of the better movies I've seen in a while. I feared 2 hours will be too short to tell a story of such depth, but they did it. Durotan / Orgrim sequences are just so well executed. You can feel years of friendship between them even if you don't know the lore. You can see it in Orgrim's eyes at the end of the movie, it's quite remarkable. Not to mention Draka. Just by looking at her you know she is ready to do anything for Durotan and his son. Generally, the whole Horde part of the movie was really something unique.

It's rare to find a movie that forces you to deeply care about CG characters. Reminds me of Avatar. And if enough people see this movie, they'll probably make a sequel. Blizzard never cared about critics, which is why this movie is different.

Along with most of the user reviews, both she and I are on the side that loved it as well. There is so much for the fans of the game to geek out over and every bit of it will be lost on someone that hasn't played. That said the movie is still dang entertaining and enjoyable for the non-gamer. CGI is amazing, acting is probably not LOTR quality but still really solid. I've seen complaints that it is too focused around the Alliance (faction from the game) but everyone that grew up with Warcraft should recognize going in that this is based on Warcraft 1 which was very Alliance focused. The Horde faction gets equal screen time and the "Honor" that is at the core or of the Orc culture is always on display. I'll definitely be watching again. Fantastic all around movie and kudos to Blizzard for giving this the love and attention your fans deserve! Expand

Hollywood has finally made a great video game based movie.Forget what the critics have to say about this movie, drop any doubt the reservation that you have about seeing this movie, and buy an effing movie ticket!

This movie transported me into a world that I have only previously visited with in my imagination. Duncan Jones adaptation of the video game work was so accurate to my minds image, I was almost brought to tears. Now, there were a few liberties that were taken as far as story goes but they were understandable and slight enough to forgive. If the tweaks weren't there the movie would have been at least another three hours longer.

Pros- Everything lolz
But more seriously- The sets, attention to detail, special effects, acting done by Durotan/Orgrim/Guldan/Garona/Lothar was fantastic, story was fun, action was rich, true to source material.

Cons- only one con!
The actor who played Khadgar pulled me from the illusion a couple times throughout the film, he just seemed out of place. Still, a forgivable performance. The kid that played Lothars son must have won a contest to be in the movie or something because he was not an actor.

In Conclusion- Go to the theater, buy a ticket, NOW. Must watch twice movie. 9/10

Serioiusly, if anyone is trusting the critics that gave the Farce Awakens 10/10 scores he is out of his mind. Warcraft is a fun movie, one not without flaws, but still better than most blockbusters released so far this year.

Now, I will tell you that you will enjoy this movie a lot more if you are familliar with the source material since the biggest problem of this film is the pacing. Its understandable that they could not put the entire lore of the games in a 2 hour movie, but even so casual viewers will have a hard time understanding some elements from the movie, like who are the Kirin Tor or what is a Guardian, and the story moves a little too fast to get attached to any character. This is why I think an extra 30 minutes would have been more than welcomed. Another criticism, and this is more of a subjective one, is the look of the weapons and armor in the movie. I admit, I am not the biggest fan of Warcrafts artstyle, but I can tolerate it in a game. In the movie however everything looks like plastic, like childern's toys, and its very hard to take it seriously.

This is however where my criticism ends. Everything else about the movie is really enjoyable. The CGI, with a few exceptions, looks pretty great, especially for the orcs. As for the characters, they are fine. I'm not a huge fan of the casting of that guy from Vikings to play Lothar, since he talks and acts more like a stoned hippie than a badass knight, but the rest of the human characters are okay. It's the orcs that steal the show however. Gul'Dan is quite an intimidating antagonist, and even though he is full evil, it's still fun to watch him. Garona could have easilly fallen in the "stronk, independent womyn who is better than men at everything" archetype, but they gave her enough flaws and humanity as not to make her absolutelly boring. Her and Durotan are the best characters, especially since they are among the few that have an arc. The story, even though rushed as hell, is still pretty good for a movie like this. From the trailers it seemed like the orcs were the poor starving refugees and humans were all evil racists and in the end they will both unite and live in peace and all that crap. But it's not at all like that and there are a few twists along the way and even deaths of some main characters.

Overall, Warcraft is a good movie. Not perfect, not as good as it could have been, but still one of the best video games movies ever made. Now, whether that is a great achievement, it's up to you.

Gamers and fans of the game overall will enjoy this film. With story from warcraft: Orcs and Human we experience the first orcish invasion in Azeroth. Producers of the movie have not followed strictly lore written in books, therefore there are some differences. Probably to make the story easier to understand , they had to make some changes. Despite a little disappointment from missing conversations and some details it is fantasy story worth its name. Some will compare it with Lord of the rings , but even LotR had some issues. Take your time to watch this movie, you will get caught up in cgi, battles and even jokes. I definitely recommend this movie. Expand

What critics don'tUpon seeing the critic reviews one truly wonders, are they obsolete nowdays, in my opinion the answer is yes. Many critic reviews that I see bash the movie for being a video game adaptation or simply being eye candy. What critics don't understand is that it's not meant to be an industry changing movie, they are used to seeing movies that belong to ultra-famous franchises and are hyped for years while being created by the uber famous with multi-million dollar budgets. Warcraft has performed adamantly against the negative storm of reviews released by critics. From the very start is has been limited by an already established lore that if fully explored could span 20+ movies. The team has managed to pack large amount of detail into the 2 hour movie, many people complain that there was no depth of character. They should they ask themselves one question, would they rather see a movie that spends half of its time explaining backstory, or a movie packed with action scenes, with great characters, story and dialogue all the while utilizing beautiful and advanced animation and effects. My conclusion, it is a great movie that excels in every aspect that is well worth the time and money. There is so much potential for additional movies built up it the Warcraft universe and hopefully these movies will be just as good as the first. It was an amazing film that has been robbed of credit by overqualified and self worshiping critics who are obsolete and little more than modern day doomsayers waving their "reviews" around in desperate hopes of catching the eye of readers. This movie will throw places and names at you expecting you to already be at least superficially familiar with the characters and geography of the warcraft world.
It has problems for sure. Some of the lines are silly and could have used a rewrite and there is also a romance that seems very shoehorned and unnecessary but this is still a very fun and enjoyable movie that is pretty much everything that fans have been waiting for, for a long time. I am hopeful that the great reception from fans will allow sequels to be made that will cover the second and third games as well.

Most important note: The movie starts meh, and gets increasingly better as time goes on. If you're someone who is very, very, extremely not open to new experiences, or someone who expects this to have a Lord of the Rings tone and will feel utterly disappointed otherwise (that's like judging ever action/drama on whether it is The Godfather), this movie may not be your best choice. If you're anyone else, then: for the past 29 hours since seeing the movie, I have been thinking "Oh My Gosh that was amazing!!." But it is fast and has confusing names, so if I didn't know the names of the 6 or so main characters before watching it (from trailers) I may have liked it less. Also, it helps to know what the Fel is. It's the green magic. They mention it quickly at the start and it's hard to catch. This is an action-fantasy. It packs a punch but requires you tolerate the first 20min, a whirlwind of names and places. It's not a fairy tale like LOTR or Harry Potter. It's closer to Die Hard with Orcs. Also, are the lines cheesy? Yes. I can't argue that. But if the amazing story draws you in, you get over it. Script is another thing that's worst at the start.

I (know little bit of warcraft stuff) loved it. Person I saw it with (knew nothing except two sentence premise) loved it. This movie is a high fantasy movie. That is the genre, but the tone is action. Don't expect a fairy-tale-like story (Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter) and especially not something told in the nearly-lyrical Lord of the Rings fashion. Rather, it is an interesting world with magic that hits hard and punches that hit harder. You don't have a nobel, driven Aragorn, but rather a sarcastic-talking fighter that fights when he cares and fights when he doesn't. It's not going to be one of the top 20 movies as all time (like LOTR might be), but its one of the most enjoyable I've ever seen. If Lord of the Rings is The Godfather of fantasy, then the is more like Crank or John Wick, with the plot complexity of a Game of Thrones episode.
I saw this movie in IMAX 3D and I like it for more than the visuals, but that certainly helped the immersion and helped me buy in to the movie, something that many critics seemed to have trouble with. I would strongly note that the movie starts okay but kinda meh, and it gets increasingly better as time goes on, leading to an amazing final act. Both me and the person I saw it with are a forgiving audience (though her more than I generally), and I think that if someone is not satisfied immediately then looks for problems, well like any new fantasy world it requires some trust to buy in to. Not more than any other, but that is a component of fantasy.
I had personally seen all the character trailers, and I was able to clarify who's who for my friend as the movie goes on. It is most enjoyable if you catch every line, like any other movie, but this one goes by fast and I do not know to what extent my ability to remind my friend who the main 6 or so characters were early in the movie affected their love of it. I'd say it would help to know who Durotan, Ogrim (he has a hammer), Blackhand (gross beard), Gul'Dan (evil-looking), Garona, and Anduin Lothar (Travis Fimmel) are beforehand, if for no other reason than that it takes a few minutes to tell characters apart.
The acting is not the best I've ever seen, but its pretty good. Ben Foster, Paula Patton, and Anna Galvin sell the story best, and Travis Fimmel and Toby Kebbel are pretty good, with the rest of the cast at the back of the pack. To be fair, none of them had much to work with script-wise, which is probably the biggest negative of the entire film, especially at the beginning (like I said, starts at its weakest and gets better).
Ultimately, this movie is insanely fun. EVen though I've played a little World of Warcraft, I only caught one reference and in the game I'm not invested in either humans or orcs, so I came in with nothing other than the excitement of a large-scale fantasy flick with orcs that pack a punch.
Relative to real-world technology eras, if Lord of the Rings was medieval, this may be closer to renaissance.
I never got that emotional, but I'm not an emotional movie watcher in general, even at the end of the first season of game of thrones. My friend is sorta the opposite, and I could see her getting stressed out as she sat next to me during some scenes. I don't think the average movie-goer will come out of this with wet eyes, but it does have some real emotional weight for those that don't reject it in the first 20min.

This movie is one of the movies that prove that critics just don't know what they are talking about. Now to give you some background, yes i am a gamer, no not any movie that is based on a video game is good, and lastly i have played a very small amount of WoW or Warcraft. To start this movie was no masterpiece, BUT it was a good movie. The story line although critics would leave you to believe that you need to know EVERYTHING about Warcraft in order to understand was surprisingly good. That being said the story is tough to follow ALTHOUGH not for the reasons stated by said "critics" The main problem the storyline has is that it throws out A TON of hard to pronounce and even harder to remember names that get the listener confused. How is someone that has never played a video game going to remember who's name is who's when there are names floating around like "dalaran", "lothar", "Gorona", "Gul Dan" etc. the answer is they wont, they get frustrated and stop because "it doesn't make sense" when they really mean that they are lost because they dont know who is who and what is what. Now imagine if the main character was named Jason and instead of saying the complicated names of cities and towns they started saying names like "New York" "Tokyo" and "London" that literally EVERYONE knows! yes that would make the movie easier to understand, but because people are too lazy to even try to remember a name as complicated as "Medivh"(i think i spelled that right) they give up and call the movie **** THERE IS A REASON THIS SHOW KILLED IT IN CHINA! long story short if you only watch movies to be TOLD a story instead of watching movies to LISTEN to a story then this movie will be tough to watch. The film is infused with so much adventure, visual splendor, and fun that I can easily forgive its small number of short comings. It's not Shakespeare, nor does it need to be. There may be one or two miscast characters as well, but those that fill the rolls cannot be at fault because everyone gives an earnest effort in this slightly flawed, but otherwise wonderful journey. Ignore the idiotic critics posting 0s too, no critic that posts a 0 to ANY movie should ever be listened to.

I do have a few complaints primarily in the casting, Khadgar and Medivh both don't fit their original counterparts very well at all, mostly Medivhi Wan Kenobi. It is obvious that some of the actors aren't top notch but it is a LOT better than I thought it would be.

The scenery and the loyalty displayed to long time fans of Blizzard games are amazing, plenty of fan service for those who've been here a while, but not so much that you're going to feel left out while everyone else is chuckling to something you don't understand every 5 seconds.

I think they did an amazing job with what is arguable the most boring arc of the entire Warcraft story, I really really hope they decide to tackle all the original warcraft games so we can see one of the best games ever made Warcraft 3 put on the silver screen.

I did not expect it to be that good after reading the bad reviews from the completely ignorant critics. It just goes to show you how much critics opinions mean jack crap. The whole movie was very well done and easy to follow even if your not a warcraft fan. I went with a buddy who knows nothing about the game and he really enjoyed it. In my opinion this is a must see in theaters. I'm so glad I didn't wait for it to come out on video. The only thing I do agree with the critics on is the lack of story on the character part but then the movie would of easily been 3 hours or more long and in all actuality its really not needed. The story of the movie alone will keep you captivated along with the great fight scenes. Expand

Its got some major storytelling problems, but the narrative moves along, and this is probably the second best looking high-fantasy setting ever put to film, with LotR just beating it out. I want to give special mention of the magic effects, which look just like how I've imagined D&D spells to look and are fantastic. Seriously, the special effects artists of this movie are never going to get the amount of aplomb they deserve. This is a Warcraft movie made for people who enjoy Warcraft, in all of its straight high fantasy trope glory, and I feel like that's the biggest problem for most reviewers. Warcraft has always been a lovingly rendered world that follows every single fantasy cliche to a T,(with one or two notable exceptions) and the people behind this film made a movie that followed that path. The movie is predictable, but, in this case, I would ask that people mark that down as a positive instead of a negative. That's not the only problem, as the plot does jump around a lot and can't get a good flow to the action going, but I feel that most negative reviewers are missing the point when they call it "predictable". As a side note, this movie is family friendly, and would actually be pretty fun for kids.(no, that's still not a negative) Expand

I must say, I am very glad I ignored the negative publicity the movie has garnered of late, because I thoroughly enjoyed the living hell out of it. Not from a gamer stand-point, but from someone who just loves "Good" movies. The way this movie is set up, you do NOT need to know any of the Lore behind the game to be able to enjoy it, hell I don't even know most of the detailed back stories. I will admit, I do see why so many of the critics were overly negative of this film. As it does rely heavy on CGI and for anyone not use to seeing a movie like sequence at the beginning of every new expansion or AAA Title, there could be something lost in the translation of it. Aside for some, what I'll call "odd" CGI shots, mainly during the flying sequences, I think the CGI work was top notch. However....I wish the movie could have had at least one 1 veteran A-Lister in here to give the flick just a bit of extra kick that it deserves. And it does deserve it, the story line I sat and watched unfold before my very eyes did something that I think has been lost in Hollywood for some time now. It focused on the one area that video games excel at...Immersion!!! Except this time, they were able to play out that sense of immersion in front of an audience without the need for a gaming rig at your feet or a limited edition World of Warcraft Mouse in your right hand. This time, they were able to bring story telling back to big screen, the way it should be done. I have thought for some time, that the stories crafted in games in general are by far more unique and of a higher quality than anything Hollywood could ever dream of putting out. And it has been a dream of mine for these stories to be told in the full pomp and circumstance they deserve. Maybe if we are lucky, we can have that dream come to fruition. Expand

I watched this movie with an open mind with no bias towards Blizzard even though I do love most of their games. ;)
Even though I already had a bad feeling about this game-to-movie conversion and was already getting poor reivews, I wanted to watch it because I enjoy these kinds of movies and enjoy Warcraft. But after watching it, I can say that the movie had potential to be good as it somewhat lured me in but it lacked certain elements in execution to make it a good movie. It doesn't matter if the movie-goer knew the characters and story already or not....the movie was average at best. Excuses from fanboys that are forgiving it because the director had to rush the story in 2 hours is not acceptable. The director just did not execute it properly. There are better directors that could do a better job in 2 hours (Peter *cough* Jackson). Even a 3 hour movie would'nt have saved the Warcraft movie. The amazing CG and visual FX can't save it.
I actually had no connection with any of the real characters except for the CG ones. Strange that the director did a better job of convincing character development with the CG orcs like Durotan than he did with the actual characters like Lothar. Garona's character had potential in the beginning but her story and character fell flat. Like I said, extending this movie another hour wouldn't have saved the poor script writing, bad acting, cheap looking costume design/material, etc. This could have easily been a SyFy channel or whatever TV channel cheesy movie or straight-to-DVD release if it were not for the over-the-top CG characters.

The Warcraft movie had top-notch CG characters, good voices and voice-overs. It probably would've been better if it was all CG in my opinion. LOL
The cast was decent but the director was horrible at bringing out more convincing roles out of the talent or lack thereof. Peter Jackson would've done a better job of doing this and probably make a better movie out of it anyways. I wasn't a big fan of the Priest, Anduin or even the Guardian, Medivh. Anduin seemed like he belonged in a cheesy SyFy channel movie (even though he wasn't a horrible actor) he just seemed out of place. Travis Fimmel, Lothar, just played his Viking self pretty well. Dominic Cooper, King Llane, didn't look like a king to me but Ruth Negga, Taria, played her role pretty well. It was weird seeing them together again as I have been watching them on the "awesome" Preacher TV series on AMC. Good actors and actresses but not convincing enough to save this movie. But all I can say is Garona was one hot orc-human chick. Although the love-interest attempt was just plain horrible. I felt no connection with any of the human characters. It felt like it was an intern directing his first movie. He had all the elements for successful story-telling. But script writing, story, humor, etc. was poorly executed. There are a lot of movies that have have below average production but I still find a way to enjoy it. Army of Darkness is still one of my favorites. But Warcraft is no Army of Darkness quality type of movie. It is a movie branded with the epic scope of Warcraft and Blizzard. It is unfortunate that the Blizzard name and Warcraft game could not save this movie from being great....like all of their products.

The overall look of the film was good but not great. One problem I already noticed, even from the posters and the trailers, was that the humans (knights) didn't even look like they fit. The armor didn't look convincing...even the subtle movement of shield in the very first scene didn't look believable...as if it was made out of foam. Like I said the CG was great and it overpowered, in a sense, the human characters. The humans didn't look like they fit. The lighting, set design and some of the armor looked off on the real life elements. It looked like it didn't match breath-taking CG quality of the rest of the movie.
The CG Orcs, cityscapes, environments, etc. overpowered the real characters and set designs. Pity.
I guess all I can say is that with great CG comes great responsibility. I gave it a 4 because it made me feel liek playing the Warcraft 3 game. And also, the story had potential but was poorly executed. Otherwise I would've given it a 3. Watch it if you want to be entertained by an epic popcorn flick B movie with awesome visual FX.

This movie is definitely an awesome movie for Warcraft players! Those so called critic reviewers, be gone! You guys are just being unfair! Can you understand the Harry Potter movies from 5 - 7.2 without reading the book?? Hell No! And look what those Aholes rated those movies!

There are so many good stuff rated down by these so called "professionals" already, Batman vs Superman, Beyond two souls, etc, yet they are all really good movies and games. However, junks like latest CoDs(CoD was good), the division, far cry primal etc all magically get at least 9/10. Tell me you should still trust these pathetic fools. My advice for those who are not familiar with Warcarft games, read some backgrounds for 40 minutes (Very beginning, way before WarIII ), go to the theater, and enjoy the amazing cast, motion capture, animation, etc. This movie worth a 9/10. Putting 10/10 to offset the biased ratings from those brainless haters who can't think but only brainwashed by those so called "professionals".

If you don't know what a murloc sounds like, you are surely going to be confused af watching this from start to finish. I didn't play Warcraft 1 but I played Warcraft 3 and clocked hundreds of hours on WoW over the last dozen of years, it's like seeing your imaginary best friend coming into real life!

I am so glad that I played a human priest in vanilla (also an undead lock during wotlk and undead priest. A good chunk of the movie was filmed in the lowbie zones around SW, and I could name every single town that was shown in the movie. There was a scene in SW and I knew that the bank was right behind the corner on the left! There were also some sweet ass cameos! Basically, every 5mins, I would think "O damn, that's where I used to farm boars for exp!" or "O damn, isn't that the main character from a later game?!" or "O damn, hes casting arcane torrent!". All the CG scenes were so damn beautiful.

They could have gotten rid of the romance stuff all together since it wasnt developed well enough. I didn't like Travis Femmels as Anduin Lothar much... Thought he was too much like his Viking king, Ragnar Lothbrok. Medivh could be more convincing if older but overall satisfactory performance. Khadgar, unlike the popular opinion, I thought his acting was fine too. Critics say the casters acting were over the top but I guess they don't understand DPS meters or how missing a single spell can wreck your raid.

This movie is by far the best video game to movie movie. When fans go see a movie of one of their favorite video games, they simply want to see the game coming to life with ultra high def real life graphics on a massive theater screen. They usually just want to see the familiar, not some surprise plot twist to ruin their game experience with crap movie story deviations! Given that, the plot changes in the movie were understandable to fit better with the movie franchise format.

This is a gift for gamers who have spent a good chunk of their life on this game and is a must see!

The movie definitely could of used the extra hour that was cut out but besides that I can't find much not to like. It's actually kind of mind boggling that this movie was reviewed so poorly, its like 1 critic reviewed it bad early and then all the other critics jumped on the bandwagon to make some clickbait articles.

I saw it with 2 people who didn't play the game and they both enjoyed it, one of them loved it and asked me 1000s of questions after the other one said they enjoyed it just as much as Avatar. They both cried multiple times during the movie and the movie received a standing applause at the end.

The orcs are absolutely gorgeous, the acting is fantastic, the magic is the best movie magic I've seen to date, the immense detail on Durotan's face is something to behold.

I'll probably see this movie 3-4 times in theaters, my only critique is that the editors cut out that hour which would of fleshed out the characters more.

The magic scenes were spectacular, but some of the fight scenes were lacking in intensity. I don't even remember the names of supporting characters, namely the guardian-apprentice; who's name I feel I should remember as they end up being a pretty important character. Viewers should remember that this movie is a story from the Warcraft RTS games, not just World of Warcraft, so don't go in expecting to see all the races, although some were visible. Not a bad movie at all. Expand

The total look of the film is beautiful, and a lot of thought and effort went into building this world for the viewers. An excellent summer popcorn movie! Expand

I took my mother to watch this movie with me. She knows absolutely nothing about Warcraft games or it's lore.

She completely loved it.

I really don't understand the people critisizing the effects. They are simply amazing. I'm not saying this as a fan, but the movie as a whole is amazing. Seriously, the down sides here are on some dialogues (a bit juvenile) and the acting of some of the actors (like Travis).

Now, talking as fan, I would have like it a bit more if some of the changes weren't made. Nonetheless, I completelly accept and understand them, and I still like what they done. There were also some good changes. I mean, the resolution around Durotan's arch if far more glorious in the movie rather than the games' lore. One change I didn't like ? Well, trying to avoid spoilers, a major character kills another major character that should have been killed by a third manjor character. Which is important to the development. Anyway, amazing movie.

If you DON'T know anything about Warcraft, you should totally watch it. Just don't try to figure who are those guys. Just focus on what is been presented to you. Things will come clear in next movies. Or you can read the "Blood and Honor" and "The last Guardian" books to get some background.

Like every movie out there, this one has flaws and it is not perfect at all. It has to be said, though, the movie is the best videogame adaptation out there BY FAR.

To be completely honest, everything is the film is really good, Garona is truly an amazing deep character. If I have to point out the main flaw of this movie is that it is probably a bit too fast paced, especially for the non Warcraft fans since they have to learn every character's names and that is quite a challenge. Still, the movie is both outstanding either if you're a fan or not. That is for sure.

Go watch it!!

Another perfect example of how critics don't know **** This movie is hands down the best game movie ever made and i am not exaggerating. If you have ever played WoW or something similar and liked it, go watch it.

Self proclaimed "critics" downvote this movie just because it is based on a game and fantasy without LORD OF THE RINGS in the title. Go see this movie you will not be disappointed.

I'm probably a bigger fan of Warcraft and know more about the lore than most people here writing reviews. That said, I'm not blindly going to give it a 10/10 like many of the rapid fanboys are doing. While enjoyable, this move has some big problems. Some of the acting is mediocre and the movie just jumps around from scene to scene too quickly. This creates some pacing issues and makes everything feel very convoluted at times.

The high points of the movie definitely have to be the sets and combat scenes. The sets look very, very good and Stormwind and Dalaran are just breathtaking. The combat scenes are also exciting and well done-- not a whole lot I can say about these without giving away spoilers. But they're pretty thrilling to watch, especially the final battle. I wanted to love this movie, but I just can't. Even though I'm a huge fan of Warcraft, I just can't say that this is a good movie-- It''s not bad either, though. It's just.. an okay movie. if you're a fan of the franchise...yeah you should probably see this. But if you're unfamiliar with Warcraft, you'll probably want to skip this one or wait until it comes out on video.

Great fun movie. Critics need to lighten up. Sure it's not Lord of the Rings but it's still a perfectly good, entertaining movie. Next installment will be awesome, gg Duncan!

I play Warcraft series ever since I was 12 years old and this movie is what we Warcraft fans long for. I just can't stand what those retarded critics saying that this movie is crap. In fact, this is a decent movie even if the cast and storyline are a bit of sloppy. No matter who you are, a Warcraft fan, a fantasy nerd, or just general audience, al I can say is that watching this movie is enjoyable and is definitely not a disaster. As a fan, I just don't want to see those foolish critics ruin a decent movie which deserves a decent score. And that is why I leave a comment here. Expand

I was going to give it a 7/10 because the movie was too fast and the scenes were too short, or just looked like they missed something, but then i discovered that they cut 40 minutes! So... 10/10! I was not a fan of the game but i really loved this movie! AMAZING!!! EPIC!!!
