You get to here Orcs chant ZUG ZUG!!!!!!! =D Lothar is great main character... I really cannot wait to see what happens with him in the next one! Also Lothar's son the little boy, Varian Wynn, is my most treasured and favourite character (who later becomes King of Stormwind) so far through out the whole series! Props to Ben Schnetzer's portrayal of Khadgar! Top Notch cinematography here by Simon Duggan! By the way they totally set this up for maybe a couple sequels, 'hopefully!! 100% my new favourite of 2016!!!!
I can't wait for next one!!!!!!!!

I watched this movie with an open mind and I have to say it was incredibly entertaining from start to finish. I was a little sceptical about the use of CGI and thought the Orc characters might suffer because of it, instead I found myself following Durotan's path through the story more than any other. I think we've well and truly reached the point where actors playing CGI characters should be considered equally to mainstream actors, I also think the team behind the CGI portraying these characters are very talented and should be commended for their exceptional work. Excellent movie, well deserving of a sequel. Expand

Please note, my comments on this movie may or may not be influenced by the fact that I've played and enjoyed World Of Warcraft in the past.

It takes a lot to appeal to a movie critic these days. Most of the popular ones are desperate to make some kind of impression and as a result cannot find it within themselves to be objective. Let's be clear, this film is no Oscar nominee, nor is it going to be a fantasy box office smash like Lord of the Rings, but that doesn't make it a bad movie.

I went to see this movie with much trepidation. As stated, I have been a fan of the game during some of it's best periods and this movie has been a long time coming. Many of the critics who have seen this movie panned it, I don't know what they were expecting, but clearly it didn't hit the spot with them. It did hit the spot with me. It was great to see people like Medivh, Gul'dan, Doomhammer and Durotan on screen. I've read about Warcraft lore for many years and Duncan Jones and his team did a great job of bringing it all to life.

Anyone who has read the lore knows what to expect in terms of story (albeit with a few alterations), it's a relatively simplistic tale, but I genuinely think they pulled it off. The orcs were well done and looked relatively convincing (though they were bigger in size than most would expect) and actually the least convincing role was that of Dominic Cooper who played King Llane Wrynn. Not one of his best pieces of work in my opinion.

Go and see this movie if you are a fan of Warcraft or a fan of the fantasy genre in general. Watch it and make your own mind up, the critics got this one wrong in my opinion, and judging by the positive audience scores, many others agree. Don't expect too much, but it's certainly much better than the 'pro critics' want you to believe.

Esp. the ones that compared this to the Mario movie.... really stupid!!!! Warcraft was actually an adaptation of the game/books with small hollywood differences ofc for the show, but was loyal to the fans and the story and the visuals. The story feels rushed because it has tons of new information for most people but fans can understand it quite easily. And trust me, It could have had even more information but Duncan Jones knew what he was doing! (I'm of course referring to the ''Fel'' lore). Solid 9 from my point of viwe and critics need to find other jobs, this is not for them it seems.... they are like Hitler talking about world peace. Expand

TL;DR: Pleasantly surprised.

Walked in knowing very little about the Warcraft universe or its lore, and walked out eager to learn more. The first half an hour or so was a lot of information but I didn't feel it was too much that the average person couldn't follow. I enjoyed the story overall, seeing equal perspectives of both Orcs and Humans was brilliant. I naturally thought all the Orcs would be the antagonists (not knowing the lore) but found myself rooting for them more than the humans. Which is also a good time to mention that the Orc CGI was unreal. About 12 seconds into the film there's a close up of Durotan that gave me goosebumps. Also a huge GG to the mocap actors that brought the Orcs to life, they stole the show in my opinion. Congrats to Universal and everyone involved in making this film, they took a risk and it payed off!

Simple.... but its kind of tricky to rate the movie, because i feel people will think "wow fanboy" compared to the critics, yes I'm a fan indeed. I also understand the part where new people with 0 knowledge might get totally confused, because it is a lot of characters that is stuffed into this movie, but on the other hand, I would applaud them for being able to tell such a story in 2 hours.

Which is also why the critics claim that the wasn't enough for the characters, that is also true, because everyone of them, has so MUCH more to show, that 2 hours just wasn't enough. Even though, everything else was amazing, the CGI and everything else was executed just fine! ;)

The critics understands nothing, and maybe plays 2 hours of World of Warcraft and thinks that is what the movie should reflect, even there, they got the game wrong.

And also many of the critics criticize the obvious line that are given to the characters "Was is coming", but which movie doesn't do that? Even Game of Thrones does it... "Winter is coming"...
But there is a difference walking in with a open mind, or already thinking that it would be the worst movie. A 9/10 here, and I would recommend watching it :)

The CGI is amazing and in the past I have been put off with too much and found it distracting, but warcraft gets it right on so many levels it really does not feel over the top or spoil the movie.

The movie on a whole is a great starter in what I hope continues to be a continued franchise, it makes a massive refreshing break from the constant stream of superhero movies too which I have had enough of now.

The critics, any critic who scored this below 60/70 just show how out of touch they are with the paying public and have no real clue, they should never be allowed to review anything outside of raindance.

The critics who scored below a 40 should just be fired for posting clickbait in a attempt to get traffic to their websites, David Ehrlich should be cleaning the streets for a living and allowed no where near a cinema unless he is selling the popcorn behind the counter, his review is a disgrace and the guy should hold his head in shame!

I have not seen them get it so wrong since Marco Polo, another one they got so wrong!

Good summer flick and a welcome break from the many superhero movies that seem to be released weekly!

They succeeded in making the orcs seem very lifelike and believable; same goes for the animals and the magic. The attention to detail was spectacular. The plot split from the lore a bit, but the essential was there and very well adapted to film. Many nods were made to the fans, the games, the characters, the settings, the armour pieces, the spells, etc. It was familiar, but different in a pleasant way. I felt like I was rediscovering a home. I would see the film again as I feel there is still more to be seen.

The movie assumes the viewer is already familiar with the characters and their motivations so it barely spares a passing moment to explain much of anything. If the viewer doesn't have at least a decent knowledge of the characters, locations, and basic history of Azeroth and Draenor, they're going to walk out of the theater wondering what the hell they just watched.

A prime example of this is my wife who only vaguely has a sense of the conflict having watched me play the various games over the years. She was more interested in the film due to the trailers and TV spots. After walking out of the theater, I had to explain the lore behind every character, most locations (she at least remembered Karazhan), and well, almost everything.

It's a movie for Warcraft lore nerds like myself but I'm not even sure we're a great audience because: 1) we already know the story the movie is telling and 2) it makes so many changes in order to accommodate a 2 hour movie window that I found myself wanting to yell at the screen repeatedly.

The drubbing it's getting in review scores is very much justified. It's not a three in my opinion because the makeup, graphics, and prop work (by WETA, no less) are all stellar but it's certainly no ten either. It's pretty to look at but niche in scope while in terms of basic story telling, Warcraft fails on most levels.

The story line conformed perfectly to the established lore, and the setting perfectly captures the scenes portrayed by the games. The acting is very good in my opinion, the emotionally charged dialog enthralls the viewer while still managing to occasionally poke fun at itself. On a visual level the movie is absolutely stunning.

The biggest problem people have with the movie is the distinct feeling it was designed to be Act I to a larger play. This is true, it very much does feel like the setup to a larger story- but that's because it is. The lore of the Warcraft universe is vast and rich in it's depth. This movie does it's best to explain the origin of the conflict presented through-out the Warcraft lore and set the stage for the progression of the story. However this does not mean that movie fails to stand on it's own. There are moments of shock, moments of pain, moments where the audience is glued to the screen only to fall back to their seats in emotional discharge. The movie does feel like the introduction to something greater, but I feel it's a pretty damn good introduction.

All the crazy-high scores from WoW Fans are just as **** and fake as the incredibly low scores from the critics: be honest and accept that this is at best a decent film with some terrible acting on the part of the Humans.

The Orcs actually look great and the main Orcs are simply far better actors than the "Alliance".

If you are a fan of WoW or Warcraft itself you will like this, if not you will simply find it too silly and confusing. But no matter how big a fan you are, a rating of 10 or even 9 is completely dishonest fanboy behaviour.

The fact that most of the orcs are actually more expressive and naturally acting than the humans speaks volumes about the quality of the CGI involved, as well as the mediocrity of many of the actors. Fortunately, Fimmel does a good effort as Lothar and somewhat saves the day for the Alliance side. Most of his missteps are due to the script I think, rather than his actual performance. The battles are quite well done and the overall pacing of the film works, despite its duration. What was rather disappointing was the music: it uses very little from the outstanding soundtrack of the Warcraft series, without replacing it with anything remotely memorable. Personally, I think that a metascore of 32 is grossly unfair for this movie. It is certainly a far cry from LotR, but it is still a decent attempt and quite entertaining, even for non-fans of Warcraft. Expand

A film NEM rossz. A kedves kritikusok nem írnak objektíven, becsapják a nézőket. Emberek!!!

Go and everybody check this movie in the cinema. The movie is great. Go and check this great film your our eyes.

This movie fails in some points, but it do almost with perfection what it came to do. It is without any doubt the most faithful game adaptation ever made, even with some changes in the lore.

Very, very average movie.

The CGI scenes range from breathtaking to bad (magic effects and CGI crowds in particular), sets are very cheap and backgrounds are quite fake. Live-action humans and CGI orcs did not blend together well in the combat. For an action movie, there is not much action (just 3 battles in total), choreography is quite poor and it seems the extras do not take their performance seriously. The Patton's character features a pair of very fake-looking plastic tusks, so it is impossible to take it seriously.

Cast and acting was disappointing, as the actors were bored and overact like your high school's drama studio. Dominic Cooper was particularly miscast as the king of the humans, as he is not of king's material at all. Ben Foster was spoiling his role from the very first encounters. Paula Patton plays a character that has possibly the most development in the story, but fails to do that convincingly.

Script is ridden with silliness and lacks logic very often. There is many cringeworthy dialogs.

The story is true to the source material and it actually benefits from the changes made that are clearing it of the legacy cruft and retcons being gathered since 1994, when the _Warcraft_ universe was born. But the movie is heavily cut and characters are robbed from any possibility to develop themselves.

If you have a chance to watch it in IMAX 3D, do so, otherwise wait for DVD in August or a TV airing.

I should preface this by saying that not only was I SURE this movie would be terrible, I was SO sure that over time I started actively rooting against the film.

SO, it came as a surprise that what I got instead was a decent fantasy movie. One that I enjoyed more than any of the Hobbit movies, even with all of the obvious setting up of future movies (studios need to stop doing this), lackluster acting, and some cheap effects, the movie came off as a solid 7/10 film for me.

Duncan Jones did the fans of the series real service, maybe even too much; I played a lot of WoW years ago, and grew up playing the RTS series, so I was very at home in the world, but I don't know how well the world-building was fed to the uninitiated. There was a lot going on in a movie that was 2 hours long.

Ultimately, I got used to the CGI in the same way I did the new Planet of the Apes movies, so the fights were fun, Gul'dan and his death magic were awesome, and it was oddly not predictable.

The visuals are amazing with a beautiful world, great magic effects and some of the best CGI characters made yet. The story is mostly based on the game with the same name, Warcraft 1 and the novels Rise of the horde and The last guardian and they did a great job getting those stories on the big screen. The story is about the orcs traveling to a new world thanks to a portal fueled by the orc warlock Gul'dan. Their old world is dying of corruption and they need a new home. They come to the new world Azeroth consisting of the Humans an also dwarfs, high elfs and other species. Once the orcs and the humans meet a war starts and you get to follow the story both through the orcs perspective and the humans. From there you have a story full of different motives, magic, action and battles and you will diffidently be entertained through the whole movie. The things that bring this movie down a bit is that there is so many different characters you get to follow and you would want to know more about them then the movie actually tells. The movie could have gained a lot by adding another 20-30 minutes to flesh out the characters a bit. Also some of the acting could be questionable for some but was not bothering me. So overall Warcraft is great movie that is obviously set up to have sequels. If you like Warcraft or any type of fantasy/action packed movies this one is for you. Expand

Anyway, this film captures the amazing story of Warcraft universe on the good level. CGI are realistic enough (and often beautiful), but it has truly bad moments. However, I can see the great technology and skills that have been used in this production. Some scenes also could be executed much better. Anyway, the story was clear and really fun even for friends that never had tangency with Warcraft universe. Quite a good start of the trilogy, but I hope that continuations will be better!

This movie suffers from a lack of objectivity on the side of many critics. Even worst movies do not deserve score like 0, were they really watching this film or not? And there is no point comparing Warcraft to other movies like LotR, saying that this film is aiming at it or posting reviews without good research. Not liking this genre? Simply don't watch it. This movie is not bad in my opinion - I simply enjoyed it.

CGI and Scenery 9/10 - CGI has it bad moments, but I can see great technologies and skills used in this production.
Sound/Music 8/10 - Music and sound are great! I really enjoyed Dolby Atmos technology in my local cinema.
Story (Overall) 9/10 - This is Warcraft Universe. Story and lore are just amazing - it offers so much to explore! Sadly I give 6/10 for the scenario of this film, It could be done a bit better.
Acting 8/10 - Good acting. I can't agree with some people that are saying that Medivh's actor was bad in this movie . Remember who Medivh is? The lonely guardian that was corrupted by demon magic (he is really serious).

I highly recommend ignoring most critics reviews, especially these with a pretty low score.

Moon was an intriguing watch withThis is a film that I had highly anticipated since its first trailer was released; not because I'm a big Warcraft fan (never played the game) but because Duncan Jones has a nasty habit of making great films. Moon was an intriguing watch with plenty of nods to Kubrick and Source Code was an extremely entertaining Sci-Fi/Action tale, so what's the worst that could happen?... Warcraft is the answer you were looking for.
Warcraft is an abysmal attempt at storytelling and it seems that the only thing the film sets out to achieve (and does so successfully) is setting up a sequel. The film can be forgiven for the CGI-fest that it is, it's based on a game and the scale that the film is operating on likely lends itself more to the green screen. However what it can't be forgiven for is a script that seems like its right out of some poor sod's fan fiction. There are lines in this film that are hard to believe got past the first draft let alone made it to the big screen, the 'no he's not/yes he is' argument between Lothar and Garona was head-in-hands embarrassing. It's difficult to blame the actors for simply going through the motions when the material they had to work with was piss-poor... but not that difficult.
The acting was reminiscent of a back-alley stage production and made me want to disassociate with any humans on screen in favour for their Orc counterparts. It's hard to believe that there was more life to be found in the motion-captured Orcs than in any human equivalent but beggars can't be choosers.
The one major positive that comes from this film is that Duncan Jones proves that it is possible to translate games to the big screen. There is a tangible sense that you are watching a game, from the camera angles that are evocative of cut-scenes during game play to the shallow dialogue and convenient plot points, it's unsurprising that many hardcore Warcraft fans enjoy this film. The problem is that where this should have been a film about a game and it became a film of a game.
It's all too similar to sitting down at a friend's house and watching him play a game for two hours, the fun's going to dry up after about 30 minutes and this is exactly what happened here. I would only recommend this to those that are fans of the source material... and perhaps not a fan of film.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie has it's fair chunk of flaws. Narrative is a bit rushed and messy, writing and dialogues are forced and awkward at certain moments. There are couple a forced, borderline stupid drama attempts, namely *SPOILERS* *SPOILERS* Anduin-Garona romance and death of Anduin's son.

However, love and effort put into making this movie, treats and easter eggs for those familiar with Wacraft universe and lore, supplemented by absolutely stunning visual effects and motion-capture -, completely outweigh the flaws. Cherry on top, the absolute joy to behold was outstanding portrayal of Durotan - despite his story being heavily changed from the original lore - this movie and Toby Kebbell's acting managed to capture and display true essence of this heroic orc. Lok'tar Ogar!

Unlike some movies where Magic feels weak and it almost seems better to grab a sword or a gun, this movie made magic strong and powerful. The plot moved at a brisk pace which some people complain about, but I love. This was no Lord of the Rings were you spend 20 minutes on montages of people eating and walking. This was constant plot. Characters like Durotan, Orgrim, Gul´dan, and Garona are very well portrayed. The visuals are very well done, and if you played Warcraft I decades ago, or even if you are a World of Warcraft player, you will truly find yourself in Azeroth.
The story is very simplified to fit in the time available in the movie, and with this, many good things and stories are left behind (like the Doomhammer prophecy). Many changes are made in the original story, and the human characters are portrayed younger. But even if you are a very purist fan, you can enjoy this movie, because you can still “feel” the characters and the world as something real.
The main problem, in my opinion, is the edition of the movie; when it came to the theatres, it lost 40 minutes (25% of its original size), and it has compromised a lot many moments. You can still understand everything that happens, but you can clearly see that “something is missing”, what is a shame.
Warcraft is not, and was never meant to be, another Lord of the Rings (it could be if the movie had three hours and more work on some areas), but it is a very good fantasy movie. Even if you have never played anything related to this universe, you can understand well the whole story. And if you are a fan, you will really feel at home.

I never expected great things from this movie, but I went with an open mind, and I loved it!

I purposely didn't do my homework on the lore, but I could still follow the story. The characters were lovable, the action was fun, and for a film heavy on CGI it was beautiful to watch.

It is definitely worth the risk of a 15 dollar ticket price, you will have a lot of fun with this movie.

The pace was a bit rushed, some of the acting wasn't convincing but everything else was spectacular like the music, the scenery, the cgi, the action. The movie ii feel like is on the higher end and leaves many options for a sequel!

Comparable to the Shannara Chronicles, this is just plain bad.
Acting, script, characterisations... as with many movies in the end it´s just a boring CGI show, which makes no sense whatsoever. No humor, bad action sequences, nothing is comprehensible - it just feels like a senseless collection of scenes with slightly the same theme. I think no one even cared about it making sense a little bit or about continuity.

The design, while true to the games which I like btw., doesn´t fit the big screen in any way. It´s just plain ridiculous.

To the people, who seem to think, they must defend their beloved franchise by ignoring the failure of this movie: even as a WC fan you don´t need to like this to be a true fan, you know? It´s not heresy to be critical when something is as obviously bad as this adaption. Just think about, what would have been possible with some film making skills involved.

If you're a fan, it's well worth the watch. If not, you'll probably be disappointed. The underlying problem is that the movie tries to be many things, but fails at being particularly good at any of them.

Don't be mistaken, though. The reviews that are trashing the movie are on the extreme. This is a movie with good humor, good characters, good worldbuilding and gorgeous visual effects that perfectly illustrate a uniquely high fantasy world, and good acting all tied together by a creative team that feels like it's earnestly trying to craft something meaningful. The story's structure is its own worst enemy, but if you're able to look past that then there's still plenty of entertainment, especially for fans of the game series.

Honestly, I thought this movie started out strong. The introduction of the orcs and all the main plot elements that would tie together this movie are woven in such a way that opens up the audience to the characters while getting you pumped up for what happens next. When the WARCRAFT logo hits, you're already sold. So, where does this movie fail, then? Aside from the third act, which I'll cover in a minute, overall the issue with the movie before then that kept distracting me was how little time was being devoted to each scene. Considering how important the characters and their relationships are in this movie, no less painted on an intricately detailed fantasy backdrop that the audience needs to be pulled into, you would think there would be more time devoted to settling us into the world with time and building some atmosphere, and giving the characters some more lines to dig into their personality and their world.
It feels like the writers were forced to work with a string of events that are supposed to happen, like a checklist. As a result, there's a clutter of scenes that could have easily been condensed and combined in order to focus in on what's really important.
The second problem with the movie is how terribly it wraps up the story. The stakes have been rising since the start of the movie. Creatures from another world have invaded a foreign land, clashes building up to war, entire world's worth of populations migrating, and then the fate of the world itself. None of this is really resolved. In fact, almost nothing is changed at the end of the movie compared to what the position the antagonists were in at the start of the movie. Main story threads are left wide open for future sequels, and overall there's no big payoff at the end to get you excited for the next. It's just a massive cliffhanger, and that leaves a sour taste even as a big fan of the series.
Honestly, this was sort of the expected outcome. The meat of Warcraft's story comes from the second and third games. The first one was much more of a "you orcs/humans, there are humans/orc over there. go and kill" kinda story, and doesn't leave a lot of room for major changes in the overarching plot. Subsequent iterations of the story through books and the like have improved it, but the framework is still the same. That should have been all the more reason to let the writers go a little crazy with the plot, giving them the creative freedom they needed to shape a tight narrative. Honestly, the first and second games could have easily been combined for this effect, letting us jump right into the more exciting parts of the Warcraft series as told through cinema.

I would say this movie was a bit of a guilty pleasure. The fan service is delivered on a silver platter, courtesy of Chris Metzen. That's not to say it's otherwise particularly bad, though. It was a fun experience, and I want nothing more than to see the sequel where the story is actually able to take off.

Mind you I haveThis movie is pretty good in my opinion for what it is, but I feel critics can't give this movie a great score because some of these problems are pretty huge and I feel a lot of these critics went in with the wrong mindset. Mind you I have played Warcraft 3 and World of Warcraft, so I am coming from the POV of a fan.

Let's start with the Negatives:
- The names "feel" more important then they are: You desperately try to remember the names of everyone, when in actuality it doesn't matter, Medivh, a Wizard is called, Warlock, Guardian, Protector and High Wizard, when in reality only the last one matters in order to connect with the audience and by mentioning these names they lose the connection between those characters.Instead of remembering the name of the characters it's easy to appoint a title description of their character like: King, Swashbuckler, Apprentice, it makes it much easier to follow and I wasn't at all bothered by that problem even though I didn't know about 60% of the characters.
- This movie was edited pretty badly: Rushed pacing, weird scenes that lead nowhere and a lack of understanding about "Fel Magic" (the plot device of this movie) are all victims of the editing mistakes, and honestly these are some of the most cardinal sins a movie can commit (next to overexposure which luckily they didn't screw up).
- A terrible ending: Okay, this was the only thing that REALLY annoyed me, I won't spoil it here, but to all the fans of the WOW Video game, Green Jesus is more important then closing the movie properly.

All of this sounds pretty bad and from the standpoint of a critic I probably couldn't go much higher then a 5 or 6... but I am not a critic and here is why I give this movie a 8.
-It's a fun swashbuckling tale: Right now Dark Fantasy is overexposed, on TV we have Game of Thrones, Daredevil and Vikings, Video games have Witcher, Darkest Dungeon and Dark Souls, movies rarely explore the "fun" side of movies outside of the Marvel Franchise. It's definitely a breath of fresh air, but this doesn't make the movie better since I could just watch the Princess Bride or Willow. But what this does mean is that the focus to a good swashbuckling tale lie elsewhere: The Characters, the World, the Journey and this is where in my opinion this film succeeds.
-The Characters: Lothar, Khadgar and Garona are the three main characters who all have interesting character arcs and the performance of Travis Fimmel as Lothar was especially fun to watch, and Garona more then anyone goes through so much change and emotion, if you can warm--up to the character of the half-orc then she definitely is a highlight.
-The World: I mean it's the World of Warcraft and the CGI is beautiful, it's incredibly intriguing and my favorite scene in the movie is just world building since my heart jumped a bit when I saw a Murloc during the travels, you obviously wanna see more of this world because it feels vast and developed... and that's because it is.
-I already mentioned the Journey of Garona because it is outstanding from a character perspective, but the party comes together so naturally, all have a common goal for a different reason and you can feel their friendship developing through visuals and not through words, which should be commonplace... it should be.

In conclusion, this movie commits Cardinal Sins for a movie, but the Genre it is set in has a much different focus then most movies (this is also why the fantasy setting usually is such a critical bomb) and it hits the points it needs to hit and the negatives don't drag this movie down to much, I can see myself going either way with a 7 or 8, but personally I want to see more of this world on the big screen, which is why I go with the better score.

"Warcraft" is not the trainwreck the critics would have you believe, but it is a mixed bag:

The good:
- a rich, engaging world and lore
- interesting and conflicted characters that you care about
- good cgi, especially the facial performances from the orcs
- gets you excited for the sequels

The bad:
- poor pacing, didn't need to be 2h long
- drowns the audience in unnecessary information
- lacks a focused story and strong protagonist
- some questionable performances from the human characters
- not a lot of action

I think most mainstream audiences will find it boring, because if you're not a fan and already know where the story lines will go the movie doesn't give you a reason to care, it just bombards you with exposition which is not the right way to do it. But, and it's a big but, at least the movie has a heart and soul and you can tell the people behind it cared, and that makes a heck of a difference in forgiving the movie's shortcomings. I usually don't say that but in this case I hope we do get a sequel because the potential is definitely there.

Filmin Eksileri:

-Medivh'in geçmişi 3-4 cümle ile anlatıldı.

Whilst the story and characters are only skin deep, this did not detract from the absolute spectacle that was on screen. Having been an on/off fan of the franchise for sometime - I really enjoyed watching characters on screen that I have been playing alongside for near two decades. Yes this is Fan fodder, and unashamedly so - that's a good thing. Definitely the best video-game inspired movie ever made and deserving of multiple sequels. My only complaint - the running time was trimmed too much, therefore there wasn't enough time to develop characters; the focus shifting between too many characters; within too short a space of time. In many ways I wish that had been a TV series rather than a movie, that would have given more time to give to character development and being in parts of well known locales. Ironforge and Dalaran were brilliantly rendered, but never on screen for long enough. That said, other movies like the Jurassic Park series had the same level of 2D characterisation and this did not detract from the stunning spectacle of the CGI dinosaurs. Warcraft has its flaws, but bloody hell is it one hell of a spectacular, no.. EPIC. Ignore the bad reviews, they are written by a constant flow of mainstream critics who wouldn't understand what Warcraft is about, or how deep its lore and canon is. If your a fan of the series its a must see, if your not a fan of the series - but are a lover of fantasy/sci-fi its a must see. If your tastes are more high brow then avoid this little gem. Expand

My biggest issues are with the half-orc and some of the human cast. The half-orc mostly because of how much she stood out in every scene, held weapons awkwardly, and usually spoke with a lisp thanks to those little rounded tusks. I feel like she should've been a troll with as much CG work as the orcs.

Didnt like Dominic Cooper's portrayal, but the rest of the human cast was decent...there's definitely room for improvement.

Other than that, some fight scenes felt too slow. They needed tighter fight choreography and slightly less shaky cam quick cuts, but it didnt ruin the whole experience. Also, my wife knows nothing of Warcraft lore and she was able to follow this easily. Sounds like the critics are upset they can't enjoy easter eggs so therefor it ruins the plot....makes no sense.

Anyway, a great film. I hope it makes enough to continue this story because we want more.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Even as a fan of the series, I did not have high hopes this would be a quality movie, as most video game movies aren't. But at no point did I find myself disengaged or bored.

The pacing to me was perfect; action sequences weren't over used, dramatic elements weren't overused, characters had a lot of depth, and events didn't play out in a predictable manner.

Whenever a movie comes out based on an existing franchise, I always end up feeling that either the film was made simply to cash in on the franchises popularity, or that I was neglected as a fan of the existing franchise as the adaptation was made to suit a more general audience; that is not at all the case with this film.
