My family and myself enjoyed the movie. We are also a family who has played the game and understand much of the extensive lore that goes along with the film. Was this film perfect? No. However, it did provide a good foundation in the WarcraftMy family and myself enjoyed the movie. No. However, it did provide a good foundation in the Warcraft universe. The film stayed true to the no clear hero vs protagonist that embodies the game. I think that is what is bothering many critics. They are looking for the usual movie devices and this film doesn't do that. If someone doesn't understand what happened I think they should watch it a second time. Many non book readers had a hard time figuring out Pulp Fiction when it released. I think that is what is happening with American critics. Its different so they just can't understand it.… Expand

Esta película se trató sobre la supervivencia de los orcos y la guerra entre estas dos grandes facciones, lo horda y la alianza; que 40 críticos profesionales califiquen con 32 a esta película no me parece justo y mucho menos si sólo la opinión de ellos hace que aparezca tan abajo en las listas. Si se pudiera concretar en si una calificación para esta película se deberían tomar en cuenta los casi 2000 usuarios que como yo participamos en reseñas de películas. 9/10… Expand

You will ABSOLUTELY love this movie if you have played any of the Warcraft games.

However, it's true that anyone who has no insight or experience with the genre has no way of connecting to the movie. This was a movie that more I thinkYou will ABSOLUTELY love this movie if you have played any of the Warcraft games.

However, it's true that anyone who has no insight or experience with the genre has no way of connecting to the movie. This was a movie that more I think about it, was made with fans in mind - which I really appreciate. So it's complicated - for folks like my sister who has never heard of Warcraft, she'll never be able to associate with how awesome this is.

Some critics cite the lack of a central protagonist to follow and cheer for - which is precisely what you would expect out of a 'normal' movie.

Take World of Warcraft, or Warcraft III, or any of the Warcraft games and convert it to a movie and you've got this: a faithful reproduction.

Every city, every image, and every spell is "as you would have imagined it" -- IF YOU had played any of the games before. So for those of us who grew up playing Warcraft, this is like taking the games we played and bringing it to life.

It's a shame that all movie critics -- and the masses -- will not experience the same sheer volume of awesome that one gets when they see their favorite book brought to life.

Anyway, definitely check it out if you have played the games - this is the first movie based on a game in which it was faithful to the fans -- and not to the masses, so I'm appreciative it got to be made.… Expand

I played the video game this is based on for many years and I am familiar with the Lore. I don't generally like movies based on video games but I enjoyed this one. Is it a Hollywood blockbuster? - no. Is it what is should be - a decent tribute to the video game it is based on with decent quality CGI and acting - yes. If you are a fan of the World of Warcraft video game or ever have been then you will enjoy this movie. I think it can still be enjoyable by people who haven't played the game too. At least it has originality compared to all of the lousy Hollywood reboots that have been put out lately. It is just a fun movie, no gender politics or anything thrown in to ruin it as has happened to many other franchises lately.… Expand

The film as a whole is good, I liked it. There are many inconsistencies with the game lore and books, but Blizzard himself described it. Well. look, this movie isnt perfect. But 3 out of 10? Oh come on. They tried to make a movie translating one of the richest lores in gaming history into a 2 hours movie and a 50 hours long games. Warcraft is bolstered by fantastic art direction, excellently executed CGI, and a deep world to explore. The lore is sometimes difficult to grasp for the uninitiated, but serves to give the movie a feeling of depth. It was wonderful to see that the characters I ended up connecting with the most were the performance captured Orcs--a true credit to the acting and technical skill on display. The film is infused with so much adventure, visual splendor, and fun that I can easily forgive its small number of short comings. It's not Shakespeare, nor does it need to be. There may be one or two miscast characters as well, but those that fill the rolls cannot be at fault because everyone gives an earnest effort in this slightly flawed, but otherwise wonderful journey. For what a number of critics have deemed a "bad" movie it sure is enjoyable. A sequel would be perfectly welcome.… Expand

I am not a Warcraft (game) fan. I have never played WoW or the earlier games. That said, I found this movie enjoyable and would see a sequel. Its, of course, not the Lord of the Rings, but its also not terrible in any sense of the word. MyI am not a Warcraft (game) fan. I have never played WoW or the earlier games. I think....this movie was pretty good. Was it faithful to the source material? I'm not sure at 100%: it did have Gul'Dan, it did have Medivh, but not sure how much of the source material was real because while I love warcraft I don't know ALLI think....this movie was pretty good. Either way, I enjoyed the movie quite a bit and frankly I can recommend it because hey, it's a nice fantasy flick even if you're not a huge fan of the Warcraft series and if anything I still hope for more one day.

Problem is that the movie tends to ignore new viewers who don't know anything about the video game(s), and assumes everyone is familiar with the characters shown, so they don't bother with giving them an extensive story arc to make you care about them. Oh and the love story? Yeah, they could have gone without it, we don't really need another Pocahontas and the white man Messiah cliches.

I'm not surprised the professional critics score it low, after all this movie is no LOTR nor does it contain weird stuff filled with suffering, so the critics could drool all over it. This movie does exactly that which is meant to do: Entertain.… Expand

Im not a fan of Warcraft or WOW but found this entertaining.
I understand the work and complexity that goes into a games story, and was amazed that i enjoyed it without being too overwhelmed by the deep lore.
So besides it possibly being a little overwhelming for some, It still was a fun movie, with great special effects and acting was fine.
The story grabbed me for the most part, without me needing to know more about the MMO or WC in general… Expand

Good fun for sure. It's not often we get good fantasy movies. I went in with pretty low expectations, and left pleasantly surprised.

That being said, it's definitely a movie "for the fans." I'm not sure the uninitiated would understand a lot of the film, and might even find the -extremely- high fantasy setting to be a bit suffocating. I found myself often wondering how I would have known something if I had never played the games before.

My two biggest gripes would be the pacing and the character development, which kind of go hand in hand in a way. I found myself wanting more development, more screen time... I wanted to get to know these people more than I was able to. It falls short here.

All things aside though I feel they really did a great job bringing Azeroth to life. I hope the movie is successful. It was a lot of fun to watch and was on some level emotional for me as a life long fan. If you're a fan of fantasy and big, loud adventures then I think you will enjoy it.… Expand

Serioiusly, if anyone is trusting the critics that gave the Farce Awakens 10/10 scores he is out of his mind.This is a movie with shallow characters, lots of action and CGI but it's not made by Disney, so of course it's getting bad reviews. Serioiusly, if anyone is trusting the critics that gave the Farce Awakens 10/10 scores he is out of his mind. Warcraft is a fun movie, one not without flaws, but still better than most blockbusters released so far this year.

Now, I will tell you that you will enjoy this movie a lot more if you are familliar with the source material since the biggest problem of this film is the pacing. Its understandable that they could not put the entire lore of the games in a 2 hour movie, but even so casual viewers will have a hard time understanding some elements from the movie, like who are the Kirin Tor or what is a Guardian, and the story moves a little too fast to get attached to any character. This is why I think an extra 30 minutes would have been more than welcomed. Another criticism, and this is more of a subjective one, is the look of the weapons and armor in the movie. I admit, I am not the biggest fan of Warcrafts artstyle, but I can tolerate it in a game. In the movie however everything looks like plastic, like childern's toys, and its very hard to take it seriously.

This is however where my criticism ends. Everything else about the movie is really enjoyable.The CGI, with a few exceptions, looks pretty great, especially for the orcs. As for the characters, they are fine. I'm not a huge fan of the casting of that guy from Vikings to play Lothar, since he talks and acts more like a stoned hippie than a badass knight, but the rest of the human characters are okay. It's the orcs that steal the show however. Gul'Dan is quite an intimidating antagonist, and even though he is full evil, it's still fun to watch him. Garona could have easilly fallen in the "stronk, independent womyn who is better than men at everything" archetype, but they gave her enough flaws and humanity as not to make her absolutelly boring. Her and Durotan are the best characters, especially since they are among the few that have an arc. The story, even though rushed as hell, is still pretty good for a movie like this. From the trailers it seemed like the orcs were the poor starving refugees and humans were all evil racists and in the end they will both unite and live in peace and all that crap. But it's not at all like that and there are a few twists along the way and even deaths of some main characters.

Overall, Warcraft is a good movie. Not perfect, not as good as it could have been, but still one of the best video games movies ever made.Now, whether that is a great achievement, it's up to you.… Expand

I must say, I am very glad I ignored the negative publicity the movie has garnered of late, because I thoroughly enjoyed the living hell out of it. Not from a gamer stand-point, but from someone who just loves "Good" movies. The way this movie is set up, you do NOT need to know any of the Lore behind the game to be able to enjoy it, hell I don't even know most of the detailed back stories. I will admit, I do see why so many of the critics were overly negative of this film. As it does rely heavy on CGI and for anyone not use to seeing a movie like sequence at the beginning of every new expansion or AAA Title, there could be something lost in the translation of it. Aside for some, what I'll call "odd" CGI shots, mainly during the flying sequences, I think the CGI work was top notch. However....I wish the movie could have had at least one 1 veteran A-Lister in here to give the flick just a bit of extra kick that it deserves. And it does deserve it, the story line I sat and watched unfold before my very eyes did something that I think has been lost in Hollywood for some time now. It focused on the one area that video games excel at...Immersion!!! Except this time, they were able to play out that sense of immersion in front of an audience without the need for a gaming rig at your feet or a limited edition World of Warcraft Mouse in your right hand. This time, they were able to bring story telling back to big screen, the way it should be done. I have thought for some time, that the stories crafted in games in general are by far more unique and of a higher quality than anything Hollywood could ever dream of putting out. And it has been a dream of mine for these stories to be told in the full pomp and circumstance they deserve. Maybe if we are lucky, we can have that dream come to fruition.… Expand

This movie is pretty good in my opinion for what it is, but I feel critics can't give this movie a great score because some of these problems are pretty huge and I feel a lot of these critics went in with the wrong mindset. Mind you I have played Warcraft 3 and World of Warcraft, so I am coming from the POV of a fan.

Let's start with the Negatives:
- The names "feel" more important then they are: You desperately try to remember the names of everyone, when in actuality it doesn't matter, Medivh, a Wizard is called, Warlock, Guardian, Protector and High Wizard, when in reality only the last one matters in order to connect with the audience and by mentioning these names they lose the connection between those characters.Instead of remembering the name of the characters it's easy to appoint a title description of their character like: King, Swashbuckler, Apprentice, it makes it much easier to follow and I wasn't at all bothered by that problem even though I didn't know about 60% of the characters.
- This movie was edited pretty badly: Rushed pacing, weird scenes that lead nowhere and a lack of understanding about "Fel Magic" (the plot device of this movie) are all victims of the editing mistakes, and honestly these are some of the most cardinal sins a movie can commit (next to overexposure which luckily they didn't screw up).
- A terrible ending: Okay, this was the only thing that REALLY annoyed me, I won't spoil it here, but to all the fans of the WOW Video game, Green Jesus is more important then closing the movie properly.

All of this sounds pretty bad and from the standpoint of a critic I probably couldn't go much higher then a 5 or 6... but I am not a critic and here is why I give this movie a 8.
-It's a fun swashbuckling tale: Right now Dark Fantasy is overexposed, on TV we have Game of Thrones, Daredevil and Vikings, Video games have Witcher, Darkest Dungeon and Dark Souls, movies rarely explore the "fun" side of movies outside of the Marvel Franchise. It's definitely a breath of fresh air, but this doesn't make the movie better since I could just watch the Princess Bride or Willow. But what this does mean is that the focus to a good swashbuckling tale lie elsewhere: The Characters, the World, the Journey and this is where in my opinion this film succeeds.
-The Characters: Lothar, Khadgar and Garona are the three main characters who all have interesting character arcs and the performance of Travis Fimmel as Lothar was especially fun to watch, and Garona more then anyone goes through so much change and emotion, if you can warm--up to the character of the half-orc then she definitely is a highlight.
-The World: I mean it's the World of Warcraft and the CGI is beautiful, it's incredibly intriguing and my favorite scene in the movie is just world building since my heart jumped a bit when I saw a Murloc during the travels, you obviously wanna see more of this world because it feels vast and developed... and that's because it is.
-I already mentioned the Journey of Garona because it is outstanding from a character perspective, but the party comes together so naturally, all have a common goal for a different reason and you can feel their friendship developing through visuals and not through words, which should be commonplace... it should be.

In conclusion, this movie commits Cardinal Sins for a movie, but the Genre it is set in has a much different focus then most movies (this is also why the fantasy setting usually is such a critical bomb) and it hits the points it needs to hit and the negatives don't drag this movie down to much, I can see myself going either way with a 7 or 8, but personally I want to see more of this world on the big screen, which is why I go with the better score.… Expand

It takes a lot to appeal to a movie critic these days. Most of the popular ones are desperate to make some kind of impression and as a result cannot find it within themselves to be objective. Let's be clear, this film is no Oscar nominee, nor is it going to be a fantasy box office smash like Lord of the Rings, but that doesn't make it a bad movie.

I went to see this movie with much trepidation. As stated, I have been a fan of the game during some of it's best periods and this movie has been a long time coming. Many of the critics who have seen this movie panned it, I don't know what they were expecting, but clearly it didn't hit the spot with them. It did hit the spot with me. It was great to see people like Medivh, Gul'dan, Doomhammer and Durotan on screen. I've read about Warcraft lore for many years and Duncan Jones and his team did a great job of bringing it all to life.

Anyone who has read the lore knows what to expect in terms of story (albeit with a few alterations), it's a relatively simplistic tale, but I genuinely think they pulled it off. The orcs were well done and looked relatively convincing (though they were bigger in size than most would expect) and actually the least convincing role was that of Dominic Cooper who played King Llane Wrynn. Not one of his best pieces of work in my opinion.

Go and see this movie if you are a fan of Warcraft or a fan of the fantasy genre in general. Watch it and make your own mind up, the critics got this one wrong in my opinion, and judging by the positive audience scores, many others agree. Don't expect too much, but it's certainly much better than the 'pro critics' want you to believe.… Expand

If you are a fan of Warcraft, be it the online game, the strategy game, or if you are just a fan of fantasy in general. Orcs, elves, magic and all that great stuff. You will find enjoyment in this movie.

And while the movie could haveIf you are a fan of Warcraft, be it the online game, the strategy game, or if you are just a fan of fantasy in general. Orcs, elves, magic and all that great stuff. You will find enjoyment in this movie.

And while the movie could have given some characters more development and it stumbles with pacing during the first 30 minutes of the movie, which is not really odd as they apparently cut about 40 minutes of footage for the theatrical release. The movie does so many things right.

The action is amazing, as it blends the two races of Orcs and Humans against each other in very interesting ways. The orcs fight almost naked with just brute strength and brutality, while the Humans clad in awesome looking armor, fight with more agility and finesse. Mix in some truly great looking magic into the battles, and you get some really entertaining action sequences.

The characters was mostly good and interesting, with a few stand out characters, pretty mcuh everyone on the Orc side of things. Toby Kebbell as Durotan, Anna Galvin as Draka, Robert Kazinsky as Orgrim, Clancy Brown as Blackhand and Daniel Wu as Gul'dan was just brilliantly cast and their actors deserves commendations as they played their parts so well. And the CGI animations for the orcs was just spectacular, one of the first shots in this movie just looks completely real to me. Probably the best motion capture CGI I have ever seen so far, oscar worthy special effects for sure.

The characters on the human side could have used some much needed character development though, but they did their roles well enough and I thought the acting was good for all of them. But they did not stand out as much as the actors playing the Orcs did, besides perhaps Ben Foster as Medivh, he was fairly good and I feel they developed his character more than the others.

The music score is really great with a theme that is going to stick with me for some time. It really fits in with Warcraft and they even put in some snippets of music from the games here and there which is very nostalgic. The small easter eggs was also very welcomed as a fan. The visuals itself are so on point in this movie, with such vibrant and colorful shots that just screams pure fantasy and more importantly, it just looks like Warcraft.

I got to see real versions of locations I have visited in the games that the movie is based on. And that made me have a sense of presence in a movie that I have not really had before. It was like walking into my first Horde barracks back when World of Warcraft opened its doors for the first time, being able to see how it actually looked like inside the buildings I created when I played the old strategy games. And now I got to see how some of these things would look like almost completely real.

So yes, I greatly enjoyed this movie. A solid 8/10 for me. If they release that extended edition I have heard about, it might fix my biggest issues with the movie and bring it up to a 9/10 or even a 10/10. I am very biased and I don't deny it. But this movie was made for me and the fans of Warcraft. This movie is a love letter to fans by fans.… Expand

I never played Warcraft game in my life, nor read comic book, but I enjoyed this new fantasy universe. Azeroth is the world where this story takes place. When the Orcs planetOne fights for their new home and the others to defend theirs.

I never played Warcraft game in my life, nor read comic book, but I enjoyed this new fantasy universe. Azeroth is the world where this story takes place. When the Orcs planet was destroyed, they use a magic portal to get to Azeroth and make a safe home. But that is where humans and other intelligent species live peacefully. A new race means a new conflict to solve the differences. So the battle commences at no time to gain the power to rule the land. Between the two great powers, who wins is the film to tell us in the rest of the parts.

It was something like 'Avatar' and 'The Lost of the Rings' coming together. Despite having alien race, it is very much an action- fantasy film, not a sci-fi. From the games to film, it was awesomely made which is obviously a latest trend in the filmmaking. The graphics were good, but not perfect, and that's fine, because it succeeds to give the game look than the realistic one. I think that's the point, otherwise no disgrace to call it was inspired by the games or comic book.

I know it is not a masterpiece like 'The Lord of the Rings', but there's a promise like the quality and story and its characters. There's no big names, but these actors who are known mostly for their supporting roles has given their best. Like I said I'm new to this Warcraft universe, so I don't know anything outside this film, but I'm kind of neutral on the war between the humans and orcs. Because one's world was destroyed and they're seeking a new home and the other ones are defending theirs. So everything makes sense from both the perspectives for their actions.

This is just a beginning, there's lot more sequels to come. Though, it's a pity that it failed in America, the native product, but internationally proved it is one of best of its kind, I mean games to screen adaptation. The director of 'Source Code' did a great job and all the actors, including those motion-capture artists. I missed Zoe Saldana in this, to be as another blue or green skinned alien specie, instead Paula Patton did well in a similar role. The character name also very similar to the one from 'Guardian of the Galaxy'. I know it's going to get even bigger in the follow-up, so I can't wait for it. Hope it will release in less than couple of years.

It did change up the original storyline from the RTS into the one presented by the MMO (which I thought the film pandered too much toward), but overall the movie was solid and I thoroughly enjoyed it. This is a pretty great movie, if your not confused.

The cgi was also good, although it did have some pretty noticably bad moments. The orcs are amazingly done, and the animals, but there are one or two scenes that look meh.

if you absolutely know nothing about it, you probably won't like it (like the majority of critics),
if you know a bit, and get the general kind of story, you'll probably like it.
either way cgi was a problem in a few scenes… Expand

Really? 3.2 on Metacritic? Certainly wasn't the worst movie ever, but it was pretty entertaining from to finish. Очень порадовала брутальность происходящего и жестокость, которая несвойственна для PG-13: геноцид, отрубания конечностей и пытки, все на месте. Так же радует наличие внутренних конфликтов в Орде и Альянсе, правда вскользь, но тем не менее достаточно, чтобы придать небольшой глубины фильму.
Все это действо происходит на узнаваемых локациях, авторы очень дотошно воссоздали мир, доспехи и прочую атрибутику. Сразу видно, что фильм делали фанаты игры, это круто и правильно.

Единственное что разочаровало, фильм порезали очень сильно. 2 часа реально мало для такой картины и более того часто видно убогие склейки, надеемся на расширенную версию.

P.S. Дуротана жалко, норм поцан.… Expand

Well after seeing it myself I can see that it's not really made for people who haven't played the games. They don't explain much and it feels rushed. I feel like she should've been a troll with as much CG work as the orcs.

Didnt like Dominic Cooper's portrayal, but the rest of the human cast was decent...there's definitely room for improvement.

Other than that, some fight scenes felt too slow. They needed tighter fight choreography and slightly less shaky cam quick cuts, but it didnt ruin the whole experience. Also, my wife knows nothing of Warcraft lore and she was able to follow this easily. Sounds like the critics are upset they can't enjoy easter eggs so therefor it ruins the plot....makes no sense.

Anyway, a great film. I hope it makes enough to continue this story because we want more.… Expand

If you are a Warcraft fan you must see this film. If you are just a movie fan try to find a warcraft fan to join you. I wouldn't expect that anyone will regret seeing this film if you go into it with an open mind.… Expand

These minor nit picks however, do not subtract from the movie as a whole, the CGI was spot on, the soundtrack was glorious and it just felt like Warcraft, I can't wait to see the director's cut and all the story they cut for theatrical release, which is what really stopped this movie from being even better. I hope they are able to continue the story in this universe and learn from what few mistakes they made moving forward.… Expand

The ILM digital acting is out of this world, a real breakthru in that half the cast are digital.

The negative review points I found a bit crazy. I was NOT distracted by plot points set up for sequels, as I am with Batman Vs. Superman. I did NOT find it a mess. The effects are NOT blurry or blobby. These are world class digital talent at the top of their form and technology. If you respect this, go see it. I did NOT find the directing sloppy, inadequate or anything else. It's fine, right up there with Narnia or Golden Compass movies.

I agree, Warcraft is not in the league of Jackson's LOTR movies and the first two Hoibbits. These have narrative excellence and intelligence beyond most fantasy movies on top of wonderful production design.

I say, go Duncan, make another one.… Expand

As a fan of the Warcraft games (Both RTS and MMO) for over 10 years now I wear my bias on my sleeve. The film's greatest strength is in the love and care that have gone into adapting this world for the big screen. Its a difficult task to tryAs a fan of the Warcraft games (Both RTS and MMO) for over 10 years now I wear my bias on my sleeve. The film's greatest strength is in the love and care that have gone into adapting this world for the big screen. Its a difficult task to try and distill over 20 years of lore and storytelling from one medium to another. Even more difficult is trying to tell a coherent story from this material in the space of two hours. The film largely succeeds in doing so despite a few stumbles.

Blizzard and Duncan Jones wisely chose to start from the beginning. The story is fairly simple but serviceable. If I had one criticism its that the story is fairly generic compared to those found in later games. But that isn't a slight against the film as the movie is a faithful adaptation of that story. It wasn't until Warcraft 3 that I really felt that the storytelling really became interesting.

The film can be a bit too fast paced in the beginning of the film which I do think may be disorienting to those who are not familiar with the lore. However I do feel that casual moviegoers can still have fun with it if they allow the film to exist on its own. If you can divorce yourself from the idea that the LotR is the standard of fantasy films I think you can have a great time with it and become invested in its characters.

The cast does a great job of bringing these characters to life in my opinion. Durotan and Drakka are notable standouts. Lothar and Khadgar have decent chemistry between them and I would have even liked to have seen more of it. I know Ben Schnetzer has been criticized in other reviews but I actually quite liked him as Khadgar. Another casting choice I have seen criticized is Ben Foster's Medivh. Again I actually thought he put in a decent part as Medivh. I would be remiss however if I didn't give praise for Daniel Wu's Guldan. They captured Guldan's cunning and ruthlessness perfectly.

The special effects are quite special indeed. I really do think the effects are a visual feast for the eyes. I saw the film in 3D and I even liked the extra sense of depth it added to the experience. I never really was taken out of the film by something looking fake or out of place. I found myself easily immersed in this lovingly crafted world.

The score was solid as well. If you have played the games you will recognize familiar themes from the games as well as some original music. The fantastic audio extends to the sound effects as well. Punches feel like they have power behind them and even the sword strikes and magic carry spectacular weight through the sound design.

Its worth noting that there is an abundance of fan service in the film and it never really felt too on the nose but there were some very clever subtle uses of it. Some of these may be lost on casual movie goers but I don't think they will detract from anyone's enjoyment of the film.

In the end Warcraft is a solid fantasy film and one I recommend to any fan of the property. For die hard lore fans there are some changes made to the lore but they too never detract from this adaptation. If you are a casual moviegoer my advice is to just go into the movie with an open mind. Not every movie has to be a Lord of the Rings. I do hope we see sequels so that we can get the Lich King on screen someday.… Expand

This movie suffers from a lack of objectivity on the side of many critics. Even worst movies do not deserve score like 0, were they really watching this film or not? And there is no point comparing Warcraft to other movies like LotR, saying that this film is aiming at it or posting reviews without good research. Not liking this genre? Simply don't watch it. This movie is not bad in my opinion - I simply enjoyed it.

CGI and Scenery 9/10 - CGI has it bad moments, but I can see great technologies and skills used in this production.
Sound/Music 8/10 - Music and sound are great! I really enjoyed Dolby Atmos technology in my local cinema.
Story (Overall) 9/10 - This is Warcraft Universe. Story and lore are just amazing - it offers so much to explore! Sadly I give 6/10 for the scenario of this film, It could be done a bit better.
Acting 8/10 - Good acting. I can't agree with some people that are saying that Medivh's actor was bad in this movie . Remember who Medivh is? The lonely guardian that was corrupted by demon magic (he is really serious).

I highly recommend ignoring most critics reviews, especially these with a pretty low score.… Expand

it was like reading a book's summary and that summary taking like 2h, and I felt like they atleast removed 45m of the footage! it was just like a single page of the books, so short and not many plot stuff. but If they didn't do this only the people who played the game would have liked it!!!!

they had no other choice, they made a lot of stupid mistakes like the cliches, and the lothar's son was basically useless :D

but this is more like a pre-sequal or something, I can feel that the next ones will be amazing!

I have no idea why people hated on this film ya the start of the story for Warcraft wasn't amazing but its just building up to even better stuff. This is easily one of the best CGI movies I have seen and seeing all the hidden gems within the movie made it that much better. I was gonna make this a 6 or 7 but I really want to see another movie from them because I felt this movie did justice with the lore of Warcraft just because we have 12-15 y/o down rating this because they didn't grow up with the lore and feel WOW has a bad lore then they can say that to the community of a game thats still the MOST PLAYED MMO in the world.

Also if you have no Warcraft lore this movie is still worth seeing just try to remember peoples names within the movie and Wiki them to learn more about them. I think the only downside of this movie is there is so many characters that they tried to squeeze in and it felt rushed in some cases because of it but it still stayed with the story line/lore. I think any one who has some familiarity with the game probably thought "is there a story worth of a movie in warcraft?" when the news of the movie came. The answer is no! But there is another question that is very important: "are there visuals in warcraft that are worth of a movie?" Hell yeah!! And that's why I had a great experience with this movie! They didn't come up with a sophisticated storyline that would detach the movie from the games (although those who are unfamiliar with the game would appreciate the movie better), and they translated the atmosphere of the game to the movie screen marvelously well! The moves, the cinematography, the pace, the design - every detail in these elements were clearly crafted with awareness and respect to the source material. My only complaint is two scenes where the CGI was cheap, which really contrasts with the rest of the movie.… Expand

The CG on this movie is excellent and it was a great pleasure to watch the panoramic views, the orcs and the magic. The only part that I personally dislike is how they portray the night elves. Also the acting of the human characters sometimes felt weak during several of the scenes and they should've done a retake.

Hopefully blizzard will continue making sequels because this movie is definitely only an introduction to a world of intriguing stories: Day of the Dragon, War of the Ancients, Rise of the Lich King and the rest of it!… Expand

When you watch a motion picture you need to adapt your critical sense based on the "type" of movie you are going to watch: You'll use a different yardstick to measure an martial arts movie rather than a biographical drama or a Slapstick comedy. So if you watch Warcraft with an objective eyes (without being fogged by prejudice or having unrealistic blizzard fanboy expectation ) comparing It with other film of the same genre you'll find a solid electronic game adaptation: a cut above other movie like "Dead or Alive" or "Hitman" or "In the Name of the King" or " Max Payne" for example.
I played Warcraft 2 and 3 ages ago and for some months WOW back in the days and I find in this adaptation what I was looking for: ......for once we can watch a live-action film based on a videogame that isn't a 2 hours advertisement for it's developers (Blizzard in this case) nor something that has only limited connection with it's original source.....
Like other have already stated it isn't perfect if you compare It with other fantasy movie (like LOTR for example) but again it is a little silly to do so.
It is far better than the critics would have you think.
I recommend it with the sole advise that if you are not familiar with Warcraft background It is better to read a little on the internet about It even if you have readed a lot of fantasy novel ... just to to avoid an initial disorientation in some of the first dialogues… Expand

I am happy to inform you that it succeeds in doing this. I am excited to see where this takes us - as a fan of the games, I can assure you that there are far better stories to be told than this one. Quiero felicitar a Duncan Jones por haber hecho esta película, si bien esperaba buenas cosas de él, ya que hizo unas películas muy buenas a mi gusto, tengo que admitir que me sorprendió. Ya se sabía que Duncan es un fánatico de la saga de Warcraft, y se nota mucho. Además del plus de Blizzard estando en la producción de la película, eso ayudó bastante. La película es muy entretenida, algunos pueden que la comparen con El Señor de los Anillos, más que nada por la temática, pero les puedo asegurar que es muy distinta a lo que piensan. Las actuaciones fueron muy buenas, sobre todo resaltó a Ben Foster como Medivh, excelente trabajo. Los efectos especiales son excelentes, uno de los puntos más positivos de peli, si bien toda la película es puro CGI, no puedo negar que se ve fantástico. El soundtrack es bueno, no tanto como los trailers o cinemáticas típicas que nos acostumbra Blizzard con sus videojuegos, pero no es para nada mala, lo señalo más en las escanas de acción, allí se oye perfecto y épico. Como anteriormente dije Duncan Jones aclaró que siempre fue un fan de Warcraft, y se puede notar mucho ya que hay muchas referencias a la saga, desde la ambientación hasta algunas decripciones de los poderes que se hacen en la película, el cual menciona de igual manera como funciona en el juego. Para entender bien la peli, se basa en el primer juego de la saga Orcs & Humans, pero también toman referencia de la saga WoW. En sí no le encuentro puntos negativos a la película, pero hay algunas inquietudes que no puedo dejar pasar: Al principio de la película los Orcos buscan pasar con un portal al mundo de Azeroth, pero no se explica el por qué de eso (aunque lo más fanáticos de seguro sabran), y otro punto inquietante es que hay en ciertas escenas que se pone un poco aburrida con un diálogo lento y denso, pero por lo menos es la gran cosa y dura unos pocos minutos. En fin, lo único que me queda por decir es que no le hagan caso a los críticos, siempren acostumbran a destrozar a estos tipos de películas por su historial (si no me creen, miren la respuesta del público al respecto), pero por suerte esta película cambió el rumbo. Muy recomendada y no hace falta ser un fan de Warcraft para disfrutarla, se entiende perfectamente y a lo mejor puede que te haga fanático de esta exitosa saga.… Expand

Disclaimer: I've played WoW on and off for over 10 years.

That said, I went into this movie with low expectations and came out with a silly smile on my face and a desperate hope they make a sequel(s). First point: The CGI was amazing.Disclaimer: I've played WoW on and off for over 10 years.

That said, I went into this movie with low expectations and came out with a silly smile on my face and a desperate hope they make a sequel(s).

First point: The CGI was amazing. From the magical effects, to the Orcs, creatures and landscapes, this was superbly done. It looked like the new standard for CGI.

Second Point: The acting. It was solid when it mattered, but fell a bit flat in other areas that made the film feel more like a B movie than a blockbuster hit. Overall, though, I felt that Anduin Lothar, Medivh, Garona and each of the actors who played major roles as orcs were phenomenal.

Last Point: The story. While it deviated from the lore a good bit, I enjoyed how they brought everything together and didn't stick to any tropes of good overcoming evil. Warcraft is well known for its history of painting orcs as more than just savage beasts and antagonists, but instead showing they have a good side, an honest side, and a deep value of honor - all of which were very well conveyed through this film.

Wrap Up: It's not going to win any Oscars, but if you are a fan of Warcraft, and even if you are just a fan of fantasy, this film will more than likely be well worth your dime and I highly suggest it's a well-made investment.… Expand

However I know most of the Warcraft universe lore, so someone like me would find this movie fantastic, and someone who didn't know the lore would feel on the outside, like if some told an inside joke, and you didn't get it. It starts with a great scene with the orcs and development of one of the main characters, but when the opening ends, the title scene apears and they begin presenting the human part if the movie, they do it in a hurry and it might be confusing for some people.

The plot line is simple what is good, because the first Warcraft game plot was simple either. but the movie sometimes fail in make care about some of the characters and it comes to a scene where yo should care about one of them ding and you just don't,

The good things about the movie are:
great fights, the cg in the orcs and the overall looking of the world are really impressive, great fan service (I am a fan and want my service) and the way magic is natural and well represented is just awesome.

With all that said, no it isn't the new Lord of the Rings but it shouldn't be it a fun and convincent HIGH fantasy world with some great and some bad characters, plot lost itself sometimes but is nothing terrible. It is a great movie if you like fantasy and good action movies a solid 8 is rather correct.… Expand

-Sound: 7/10 (overall decent but that first look at Stormwind was brilliant)

-Story: 8/10 (fateful adaptation without too much ham)

-Acting: 8/10 (stellar acting from the main cast and more impartantly no cringe worthy moments, seriously they could have botched it up so badly with the orcs but in the end they turned out to be the better actors of the movie)… Expand

Like every movie out there, this one has flaws and it is not perfect at all. It has to be said, though, the movie is the best videogame adaptation out there BY FAR.

To be completely honest, everything is the film is really good, Garona is truly an amazing deep character. If I have to point out the main flaw of this movie is that it is probably a bit too fast paced, especially for the non Warcraft fans since they have to learn every character's names and that is quite a challenge. Still, the movie is both outstanding either if you're a fan or not. That is for sure.

Fun watch. It's not a bad movie at all. I'm not sure what people were expecting. If your a fan of the game it's great. If not its still a good ride if you like fantasy action.

When I read critics reviews I was very disappointed but am very happy that movie turned out to be quite good. I gave it 8/10 but probably deserves 7. +1 for not being a let down for game fans. The main weakness of the movie is there isn't enough character development and audience do not feel immersed in the story. I wish there was another 25 mins at least (maybe remove 15 mins some where else) to show the world around the main characters so the audience feel like they care for them and the land. Or maybe this movie should already be in 2 parts.… Expand
