In short, it's one of the best DC film. Robert is fine actor and he performed bruce wayne okay okay, but as a caped crusader he's something more than that. It can call as excellent. USP of this film is its Music; direction; story; acting, all in the descending order.Matt reaves provides us a bit too long film with a slow first half but in second half, oh boy, they nailed it. Bruce don't know the concept of batman in this and he's trying hard to understand it which is great but riddler was on different level. I should say just two steps less than late heath ledger. Film should reach 750 Million and am sure it will. 8.5/10. Expand

Robbert Pattinson, Zoe Kravitz, Jeffrey Wright, Paul Dano, John Turturro, Collin Farrell, Andy Serkis, Peter Sarsgaard all prove that they are worthy of their triple A acting status with brilliant performances that just capture you.

Robert Pattinson hit it out of the park with his Batman Portrayal. He still lacks the charm as a Bruce Wayne but he's perfect as an year 2 Batman.

Finally Paul Dano is the MVP of the movie. He perfectly portrayed Riddling from the comic & added terror with the character.Colin Farrel provide some good moments as Penguin

And I Swear you're not ready for the ending sequence of Riddler

It's a slow, boring and not original story. The visuals are dark, gloomy, and almost not readable in most places. The only good points are the actors interpretation of their roles. All the rest was not my cup of tea.

its clear this movie has divided opinion as its not your previous batman with shiny gadgets and bat cave. This is a very different experience.
The Jury was out for me on pattison however he did just fine, the dark and brooding recluse who operated at night and was clearly angry at the loss of his family isnt something we have seen before, it takes some adjusting to.
For people that were bored, they were obviously expecting the usual action throughout rather than this being very story driven and away from the superhero norm.

The film could have been shorter yes, personally i had been gripped by the cinematography and the reimagining of the character

Need to watch again as im sure i missed so much.

Dark knight still rules as the best batman movie, this is a good movie and deserves to be watched just have an open mind when watching it

Robert Pattinson is an amazing actor with a wide range (The Lighthouse, Good Time, The Devil All the Time,) and Matt Reeves is a phenomenal director that's working with some of the best source material ever. Batman is a character with a very fleshed out emotional and psychological background. Matt Reeves is a director that proved to be exceedingly talented in portraying emotional depth in an unlikely trilogy: Planet of the Apes. I didn't think that those movies could possibly be very good, but Matt Reeves made me deeply care about those characters. It is, in fact, one of the most emotionally impactful movies I've ever seen. So, naturally, I assumed that Reeves would spread his wings and soar with "The Batman." I am pleased to say that this time I was correct. At the heart of this story has always been a traumatized young boy. Other Batman films really only scratch the surface of this aspect of the character compared to other mediums. Animated movies such as "Mask of the Phantasm" and comics like "Arkham Asylum" by Grant Morrison explore Bruce's damaged psyche far more than any of the live action movies, and I've always loved those Batman stories, because it explores one of the most interesting things about him. Interestingly enough, over The Batman's three hour runtime there is no drawn out backstory involving the death of his parents. The only reference we see is a brief, maybe one-second flashback, and it's there more to show us that Bruce has PTSD. This movie doesn't use the same old scene to tug on our heart strings, because surely Reeves understood that we've already seen it too many times for it to be fully impactful. Rather, he shows us a very honest depiction of the aftermath. He's in pain, and he's tired. Even more so, he's angry, and God help any mugger that happens to be in his path on a dark, Gotham night. Many talented actors have portrayed Batman over the years, and I don't think it's fair to say that Pattinson is "the best," but he's perfect in this movie, and for me, this is the best iteration of a live action Batman to date. So I can't really help but like him more in this movie than I have liked any other portrayal of Batman.

The cinematography is breathtaking. Lighting is done masterfully. Unsurprisingly, a lot of the movie takes place at night, and Reeves does an amazing job of creating these dark scenes that are almost uncomfortable in how much they obscure, to give you that feeling of suspense that anyone who sees batman emerge from a shadow would feel. At the same time, these scenes manage to beautifully light and focus everything that the viewer should be seeing. It's perfect for a noir film, and it's perfect for a Batman film. I believe that the timing of this movie was absolutely perfect. Like most of us in 2022, Bruce is experiencing dark times, and he's still learning how to navigate that darkness. Bruce's fear of losing himself to this darkness is palpable in Robert Pattinson's performance as well as in the writing of this movie. The anger and brokenness is visible on his face, as he has lost the motivation to hide it. With Batman, on the other hand, there's an almost calm composure that parallels the chaos we see in Bruce. Reeves is telling us that this is the release. Batman is Bruce Wayne's way out. In fact, this is probably the only thing getting him through it. On some level, Batman is something that Bruce Wayne has to do. I was very happy with this movie's realistic portrayal of trauma early on, but by the end I was genuinely moved by the fact that we watch Bruce become someone that is worthy of admiration. By the end of the movie, he isn't just an angry person that beats up criminals. He helps people. By being a beacon of hope for them, he is able to be hopeful about his own future. The Riddler is the other side of that coin: a cautionary tale about what happens when traumatized people just burrow deeper and deeper into their own heads and put up walls, their egos inflating as they demonize and blame the rest of the world.

In conclusion, The Batman is a story about a legend in the making. It takes place early on in this story, and Bruce Wayne is still a diamond in the rough. Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson masterfully portray "the rough." Admittedly, the Batman story has always appealed to me as a person with childhood trauma, but I think that after 2021, literally all of us can appreciate a story about a good person trying to do the right thing in the middle of a crappy situation. This isn't necessarily a groundbreaking Batman story, but it is a groundbreaking Batman movie. I predict that pretty much every fan of Batman comics is going to love this movie. People that are mostly fans of the movies might be a little divided on this one as it is drastically different from any live action portrayal we have ever seen. For me, it's an easy 10/10.

There are so many things I would like to talk about so for the short review, this movie is amazing if you like batman, with much action but also much mystery, suspense. great acting, Robert Pattison completely owned the character, and every time he was on screen we could just feel his presence, and that feeling of superiority that batman radiates upon people, and the film scoring is just beautiful and a must-see. Now I would like to address some things that other people have been saying and I would like to comment on the fact that this is NOT a marvel movie, other reviews have said things for example " this movie was too dark, depressing" or "I wanted to see with my kids but it was too violent" but that is who batman is, if you read a batman comic it won't be happy, funny jokes, but a dark, violent, grim and serious story with some heavy topics. Secondly, this movie had a different pace, mood, and theme as the other times we have seen this character on the screen, One thing about Batman is that he is not just the world's greatest fighter but also the world's greatest detective and that was a complaint that I had with the other movies because they completely ignored this aspect of him, action here and there but never how smart he really was and in this movie they completely flipped it, showing us his skills as the worlds greatest detective most of the movie, trying to solve this mystery of murders, trying to understand the killers objective and who he was, and Lastly, he is not a "Ben Affleck" batman who will burst into a room with 30 people and take all them out without breaking a sweat, Pattison's batman is in his 2 year as Batman, even though he has his flaws in terms of ability, he is still learning how to be batman, but also struggling in finding who he really is as bruce Wayne. he is not a christan bale's bruce where he uses a fake smile and playboy lifestyle to hide his identity as batman but this bruce is in a very dark place and struggling mentally on who he is and what he should become vs what he needs to. I loved this movie very much, I'm going to watch it for a 2nd time tomorrow and I think you should two. Expand

And how does it fair? Yeah, it's pretty good, it drags on in some places, mostly in the first half, but when the movies finally start picking up steam in the second half, it starts to get fantastic. Without getting into too much territory, the Riddler was fantastic even though the riddles themselves didn't seem too special. We also don't spend too much time with Bruce, so the certain impact moment just fell flat cause I hadn't built a relationship with this newer Batman. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When it comes to Batman, it’s hard to escape the influence and comparisons to the Nolan trilogy which revolutionised how his story is told: focusing on character drama, having more realistic action sequences/plots, and favouring a darker tone. The Batman is certainly no different, and it strives to be one of the grimmest entries in the franchise. In following this approach, there are elements that work great, but there are also aspects that fall a little flat.

Visually, The Batman is fantastic. The dark environment and ominous shots keep the level of tension and dread to an almost suffocating level throughout most of the runtime. Sometimes the lighting gets a bit too dark to make out objects clearly, but on the whole the movie succeeds in drawing the viewer into the miserable hellhole that is Gotham. The score is also excellent, whether it is for adding menace during a crime scene investigation or for adding to the epic-ness of a thrilling action sequence.

Speaking of action sequences, they are somewhat sparse but when they happen they are well worth the wait. The violence is brutal and realistic and some of the stunt-work is mind-boggling. When characters get hurt in this movie, you will feel it.

All the actors pull their weight and give solid performances, and nobody really stands out as a weak-point. Robert P.’s first outing as our titular hero is a reserved, but powerful, portrayal of a determined and broken man who’s trying to redeem his city and himself.

The not-so-good parts:

The storyline doesn't really justify its behemoth runtime, and it drags in a few places. The movie tried to explore a few too many avenues about the dark side of Gotham and Batman’s personal history, and a few of them didn't get tied up that well. I also felt the closing climax act didn’t really add much to the movie and could be omitted entirely.

The villain plot wasn’t that interesting for me as it just seems like a rehashed version of David Fincher’s Seven or Zodiac but thrown into the Batman universe. I do like the approach of doing a Batman movie that is heavier on the detective side, but I just felt the stakes weren’t as high or as personal as some of the ones depicted in Nolan’s trilogy.

All of the characters are very cold and bitter, outside of our psychotic villain. While I understand this is probably what the film is going for to accentuate the dark and grim tone, it also made all of the characters somewhat similar and lifeless. Some of the character relationships are also lacking a bit of chemistry compared to what I experienced from the Nolan portrayal.

While the violence is generally realistic, some scenes involving Batman himself are a bit outrageous. The guy straight up turns into Superman for a few of the fight sequences, as he handles being blown up in the face, getting thrown off a high-speed vehicle, being shot multiple times - all with no long-lasting injuries, or even a scar.

Overall, The Batman is a solid new chapter in the franchise that continues the Nolan formula of depicting Batman and Gotham with a more grounded and grittier approach, but I can’t help but feel that it doesn’t bring many new things to the table while falling a bit short on achieving the same heights that its influences accomplished.

Bruce Wayne (not Batman), Penguin, and especially the Riddler felt out-of-character and away from what makes them so distinct as characters. I get that this is a much darker take on the story, but at the end of the day they didn't go as far with that concept as they should have. We have none of the charm or the wit that makes Batman... BATMAN, and so at 3 hours this movie is a bit too intense to sit through without enough of that good old-fashioned humor. Zoe Kravitz nailed it as Catwoman, and Robert Pattinson is still a very capable Batman with a LOT of potential to improve. I'm excited to see the next movie, even if I am rather critical of this film here. Still incredible in terms of atmosphere, soundtrack, and very good acting. Worth seeing for every Batman fan. Expand

There is a reason why this movie called THE BATMAN. This is the longest appearance of Batman in a live action movie ever. Bruce Wayne just a side character... Batman in full suite 80% of the movie.

Of all the Batman movies... live action and animation... I never felt what is the Bat signal meant for the people of Gotham especially the crooks... Mat Reeves able to shows how the Bat Signal incite fear to the crooks.

I also never see Batman doing actual detective works in a movie... this movie have the best Bat detective sequences ever... and his partnership with Jim Gordon is the best iteration I ever witnessed. When the Batman spoke.. "Thursday October 31st"... yeaaahhh!!!! I'm a sucker for movie with narrations... right then I knew.... I'm gonna love this movie... and the investigation itself is very interesting... Riddler is crazy AF... all the riddles he left for Batman and Jim to solve are mesmerizing and I'm so invested with the investigation works... 3 hours just flew by.

All the cast are amazing... Robert Pattinson are amazing and he really looks great in the suit... The Bat suit itself is menacing... Colin Farrell is the most amazing cast... I still can't recognize him behind the make up... his accent is sublime. Paul Dano as The Riddler...chilling performance... he is crazy AF... I don't know what kind of Joker Matt Reeves gonna give if there's a sequel to top The Riddler.

This is the best Batman movie I've ever watched... if you're a fan of MCU type superheroes movies... I don't know whether you would've like it... but if you are fan of criminal investigation movies like Se7en... this movie is heavily influenced by Se7en.. you definitely gonna love the movie.

Highly... highly recommended... 10/10... find the best sounding cinema because you need to hear the introduction of the Bat Mobile... HOLY S#!T!!! Goosebumps... the revving jet engine make the hair on the back of my neck stand up!!!

Gotham is an open world asylum of mentally and physically corrupted cops and robbers knitting the same threads that make Gotham the torn city of dreams. I give this BatMan a 9. My only takeback is Robert Pattinson's adaptation of BatMan is so broken that if they upbeat his dark character to a cheesy Bruce Wayne philanthropist, it'll destroy this new BatMan! Expand

Clearly the Batman package and overall presentation helped this movie to be better than what it sould have been if it didn't make part of the Batman franchise.

Visually it is awesome, partially thanks to long, contemplative and uncluttered shots. Lighting is okay. First flaw to me: the environment is way too dark. I totally get that it constitute a part of the Batman's core but here it is just too much. There are se few scenes shot under the daylight. It so dark that some scenes are hard to understand, because you can't easily visualize the position of objects and characters.

Fight scenes are amazing, with some great choregraphies. I enjoyed the fact that Batman takes a lot of punches and bullets, making him seem more vulnerable, more human. Despite that fact, 'The Batman' manages to offer us spectacular scenes.

We obviously can complain about Pattinson embodying this Batman, but I enjoyed his role even more since he keeps his mask on for something like 85% on the time. In overall he is quite good at non-acting: he is almost impassive for the total length of the feature. However I think he made a slightly different Batman: more sad, more tired and more beginner. Speaking of this, thumbs up to the new Alfred too ! I was highly skeptical at first glance but his relation with Bruce Wayne is totally different than in the previous movies. I was also positively surprised by Catwoman's role and character, I found her not too sexualized, not too seductive, emotional as I like, and properly introduced in the scenario. The villains are okay, excepting the Riddler which I found to be terrific. Even more, I am deeply satisfied with the evolution of the different characters. I don't have the impression to have watched a pointless regular action movie.

I would have wanted more gadgets. For something as iconic as a Batarang, we see him use it once of twice maximum. What the heck ? He uses his grapple (or should I say Bat-grapple ?) way more often ! By extension, the wealth of Bruce Wayne is nothing more than detail ! While it is supposed to be his very first mean to be a lawkeeper... The Batcave looks like a regular cave as the Batmobile just looks like a boosted, armored and reinforced Jeep.

The scenario is quite boring and unoriginal. It sadly accentuate the fact that the movie lasts for more than two hours and a half. I found that the second third of it was the most boring. In overall it is really cyclic: Batman finds a riddle, solves it and goes to the meeting point, where he finds another riddle and so on and so on. He never tries to bypass the Riddler, never tries to do something unplanned. Fortunately the finale is worth it.

There are notable inconsistencies. Several allies, including Batman himself, are exposed to close bombing, and they all miraculously survive. Bruce Wayne take an incredible amount of bullets without taking much damage. It seems like he possess a bulletproof and fireproof mask... Quite effective.

I was disappointed by the fact that the movie tries to tackle multiple issues he can't really assume, as the death of Bruce's parents, the truth about his father and mother, the conception and origin of the Riddler, Gotham's politics, etc.

The soundtrack is great, especially the use of 'Something in the Way' from Nirvana (terrific song by the way). Its presence is so overwhelming and iconic that I can't remember any other song used in the movie !

In conclusion, many positive ideas and facts but I can't help to think that without its Batman label, this movie is just okay.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. OK, There are spoilers in this writeup. This is your warning. The first thing I will say is Christopher Nolan set the bar very high. To this day I still watch the original trilogy many times and love them to bits. There were subtle issues like Bane should have been played by a bigger Spanish actor, or that Ra's al Ghul should have been played by a more Asian actor. Point noted, but the characters and their portrayal in the films were very good.
Coming back to The Batman. Batman was casted perfectly, the film was dark and music / atmosphere superb. Where the film let itself down. Here we go..... Batman came across weak, direct in confrontations, no real strategy, takes gunshot hits, rifle hits direct to body and carries on fighting. The fight sequences were sloppy. Now Batman wears black, he comes out at night for a reason. Where were his weapons, stealth, use of the darkness, smoke, stun grenades, strategy. His an expert martial artist, knows ninjutsu, the art of deception. Remember that starting out with less kit. The man should have been more stealth, more indirect, more strategy His not starting out, his already equipped mentally and physically. The guy knows why his doing this. If you want to know more about what I mean. Play the games Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, Arkham Origins and Arkham Knights on the ps3, ps4. Play the games in normal mode and go up against the enemies directly with no strategy and you will see what happens. Batman dies. Remember this very important thing when you are watching batman films. His not a f$%king super hero with special powers that protect him. His just a good hearted, righteous rich kid, who's parents were murdered. So he decides to do something to make a difference for the people of Gotham. Now this is why I love and respect Batman / Bruce Wayne so much. He has all the money in the world and can move on and live a wonderful comfortable life in rich surroundings. But no, he makes a stand for justice, and to do the right thing, and bring criminals to justice. Using his money to aid him.
The casting of Catwoman as a black woman, changing her background, for me was wrong. The casting of Commissioner Gordan as a black man was wrong. Went against the batman lore and the comics in my eyes. I'm sorry but if you don't like this, tough. I have nothing against black actors. One of my best is Morgan Freeman. Love the guy. Watch some of his films like The Shawshank Redemption.
Now we move on to the story, the riddler and the penguin were not vicious, evil enough. These are f$%ked up in the head characters. They did not scare or intimidate. Think of the joker in The dark Knight. This guy f$%king put you in your place. He made you feel uneasy, uncomfortable, scared. Personally if I'd had to be close to the joker. I'd be 10 feet away with a automatic machine gun pointed to his head. One move and his dead. That's how much I'd trust the guy. A f$%ked up in the head, unpredictable guy.
Now when you point a gun at your enemy at point blank range. What I would like to know is how the f$%k did catwoman miss her f$%king target. Secondly when the lady going for election gets shot in the stomach by a sniper round. How the f$%k did she survive that. Thirdly how does batman survive being shot by multiple attackers with automatic machine guns at point blank range and beats them all up. Please help me on these points. Catwoman manages to conceal a gun and get past Falcone's security. What rubbish. The action sequences were boring and the final sequence boring. What I would like to know is where did the f$%king $200 million in making the film go. Did the actors get most of it. Because I sure hell did not see much in the film.
Go if you must to watch it and see for yourself. But I think these days cinema has been going downhill for the last 15 years. The reviewers have been bought and there is no originality or risk any more in making controversial films any more. On top of this we now have the Woke **** So this is my opinion. Hope you enjoyed the review. Just trying to be honest, from a genuine Batman fan.

Alright folks, it's the moment we've been waiting for, well it's definitely the moment I've been waiting for. A new Batman movie has appeared in cinemas again and if someone told me ten years ago that I'd be excited for a new Batman movieAlright folks, it's the moment we've been waiting for, well it's definitely the moment I've been waiting for. A new Batman movie has appeared in cinemas again and if someone told me ten years ago that I'd be excited for a new Batman movie starring Robert Pattinson I'd never have believed them. The Batman is right up there as one of the best comic-book movies. No DC movie has been this good since The Dark Knight.

Psychotic serial killer, The Riddler (Paul Dano) sends Gotham into a panicked frenzy when he begins murdering key political figures and leaves cryptic clues for his next victims. Knowing this is just the beginning, Batman (Robert Pattinson) must investigate amongst rampant corruption to find The Riddler before more people are brutally murdered.

Robert Pattinson plays Bruce Wayne like we haven't seen on the big screen before. Riddled with trauma he is desperate to live his life as Batman and abandon Bruce Wayne altogether. Honestly he is in such a mood for the whole film. I'm very happy with how he took on the role. Feck the haters, every time a new Batman movie is in the works the haters emerge from all over to voice their anger towards whoever gets cast in a major role, be it hero or villain. Well Pattinson has come a long way since Harry Potter and Twilight, working alongside directors such as David Cronenberg, Robert Eggers, and Christopher Nolan. The list goes on and now in 2022 he's the Batman. Fair play to him, he completely disappeared into the role.

Director Matt Reeves certainly knew what he was doing when he gathered the cast for The Batman, honestly I was excited for this once I heard Paul Dano would be playing The Riddler, I can think of no better actor who can play that role. He's absolutely mental. Also starring Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, she owns every scene she's in, totally kicking ass. My favourite onscreen portrayal of Catwoman since Michelle Pfeiffer in Batman Returns. We've all seen the pictures of Colin Farrell as The Penguin, completely unrecognisable is an understatement. I have to admit it was hard to imagine an adaptation of The Penguin that would fit the tone of a realistic Batman movie and not end up looking completely ridiculous but this works. Robert Pattinson and Zoë Kravitz have amazing chemistry together, they were both perfect casting. You also have Jeffrey Wright as Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred and John Turturro as the feared mob boss Carmine Falcone. This is what a superhero film should be like, get a director who knows what he's doing, has a clear vision for the film and assemble the cast they want and you end up with thrilling experience that leaves the audience wanting more.

I love the dark and gritty city of Gotham, drenched in rain, gloomy and gothic. Wayne Manor looked like a neglected castle from a Tim Burton movie. The whole tone of the film has a similar feel to it like Nolan's Batman trilogy but with even more violence. Pattinson is perfect for capturing the dark and brooding 'orphan billionaire'. The score by Michael Giacchino is absolutely stunning. Perfectly complimenting the movie in every scene. What more can I say, I absolutely loved it. It's stunning, the cinematography is perfection, the fight scenes and car chases are exhilarating. The scene where the Batmobile makes its roaring entrance was brilliant. The entire cinema loved every minute of it. I'm already dying for a sequel. I cannot wait to see what the combination of Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson will do next.

The Batman definitely feels like more of a psychological crime thriller than a superhero movie. That's not a criticism, I loved the tone of Reeve's Batman. It's giving strong Se7en and The Zodiac Killer vibes. Dano's sadistic portrayal of The Riddler is everything I'd hoped it would be and more. A thrilling reboot that all you comic-book fans need to see. Highly recommended for all the Batman fans.

I might be speaking with a bit of "recency bias," but I THINK this is one of the best DC movies yet: They did a great job at making things feel a bit more realistic in this version of Batman. This was coupled with amazing settings, scenery and atmosphere, I don’t think there was a single sunny day in Gotham.

I was absolutely blown away by Robert Pattinson's rendition of Batman! I was one of the initial naysayers who "Didn't want no... “TWILIGHT BOY” in their Batman movie!" But I was surprised and humbled by his stellar performance as a younger and grungier version of Batman/Bruce Wayne (He's certainly better than the LAST guy who played Batman).
Hell, even if Pattinson ended up doing a poor job, all the other actors would have covered for him: Zoë Kravitz might be the best Selina Kyle yet, I still refuse to believe that that was Colin Farrell portraying The Penguin! Dude literally disappeared into that role both literally and figuratively. Paul Dano took the role of The Riddler to places I would never imagine the role could go. Jeffrey Wright and Andy Serkis put their own unique spins on their respective roles.

If I were to give ONE "harsh" critique on the film, "The Batman" feels a bit too much like one of the Christopher Nolan Batman movies. Which isn't a terrible thing, I suppose. This movie is certainly a must for any fan of Superheroes so go watch it ASAP. And make sure to go potty before the movie starts cuz it’s a long one!

Every trailer and photo I would see from set would make me more and more excited and finally the day came and as I sat through the nearly three hour film, I was left...disappointed. Not because the movie was bad by any means, but because it didn't feel complete. There was no big resolution, there was no tense final standoff and battle of wits. It just...happened. And before I knew it, the film had ended. There was so much potential to be touched upon and I really thought we were finally going to have a Batman movie that could explore parts of Batman that had never been explored before on the big screen. Instead, we were left with an incredibly safe Batman movie that lays down tons of groundwork and definitely sets something up with it's diversity in characters, but other than that really just did not feel like it had a purpose to exist other than to sell merch and keep people interested in the future of DC by saying that SOMETHING may come eventually. I have to hand it to them, because the casting was wonderfully done and I fully appreciated the performances that Colin Farrell and Paul Dano put in as Penguin and Riddler respectfully, and Robert Pattinson shows promise as Batman. There was a lot of things to like here and a lot of things to hate, both culminating in a film with notable spectacles and great action scenes that were too few and far between for me to praise them enough. I really wanted to like this, but there were multiple moments that made me genuinely tired and bored, and even some that irked me, mostly the handling of Catwoman's ambiguous sexuality and her whole character motivation just being downright meaningless. The Batman could have been so much more than just another safe DC film, and it honestly felt like it was marketed as such. I'm hoping that this is just growing pains for the new DC movie lineup and that by the next entry things will be settled in, but for now I worry for what comes next. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie takes a whole different approach for batman. We can see here clumsy, young Batman, who left the bruce persona after being brought down by everything life.I saw it as if he doesnt want to be bruce, he is scared of it, you can hear it in the conversation with alfred at the hospital or the looks he gives at the mayor's kid. To be the kid, to exposed to be vulnerable again, to be afraid as he was than. This batman is much less gadgety than yhe 2 previous versions of him. He is more rubust and not clean..he is much more a human than a super hero. And the fact that he looses, and yet come of it stronger that what makes it the most batman story that was shown in live action. This is a batman from the comics as it was supposed to be. Abd yet the movie could be shorter in about 40-45 minutes, i think catwoman axting was not good and also Alfred's. Everyone talk about the riddler i think collin farrel was amazing as fhe penguin. Abd cant wait for his spinnoff series. Expand

This is the Batman film I've wanted my whole life. Matt Reeves has made the most faithful Batman adaptation to date; pulling inspiration from numerous comics, the animated series, and video games; and it finally explorers the skills of the World's Greatest Detective. This is such a refreshing film that shakes things up for the superhero genre. It's actually not a superhero film at all; it's a deeply complex and layered crime noir thriller similar to a Seven, Chinatown, or Godfather feel. Everything here is gorgeous and crafted with extreme care - the acting, cinematography, musical score, action set pieces. It's a little too long and could've benefited from some trimming in the editing room. It won't be for everyone, it might be too violent for kids, and people who love generic popcorn flicks probably won't like or appreciate it, but for lovers of Batman and true thrilling cinema, it's a must watch. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It was a preety bad 3 hour long movie. Good for people with insonmia to sleep through. It felt and looked childish with no potential dialogue for the entire movie, it all just feels like a huge stall. And for about 1 hour we had this horrible riddles of "what is a rat with wings " (in spanish, as if it wasnt enoufh of a joke). The worst is that no one knew the answer.,. First of, they wre like "oh its the penguin", then they came up with a pidgeon idea, then with a bat, then with another animal and it was like that for 1 hour. Expand

Probably the worst movie I have seen in a while. If you want to see a weird loner try to play "batman" with no emotion or feel this is it. The action felt stale, and the movie dragged for 3 hours.

From his walk, to his stare to the fact that he didn't alter his voice. He brings a quiet, strong Batman with real emotional depth. His no killing rule is in full effect here, the way it should be. Zoe Kravitz is perfect as Catwoman. Bringing a grace, strength and beauty to the character. The chemistry between her and Robert Pattinson is undeniable. Colin Farrell's Penguin could step into any gangster movie and take it over. One of the best performances I have seen Farrell give. I can't wait for his HBO Max series. What Paul Dano has done with the Riddler is equal to or better than what Heath Ledger did for The Joker. The Riddler is terrifying. Dano brings a manic and craziness to Riddler that will forever change the way the character is seen. Jeffrey Wright is great as James Gordon. The interaction between Wright and Pattinson is spot on. This is the relationship the two share in the comics. Andy Serkis as Alfred is more a mentor than a father figure for Bruce. He's strong and unwavering. With a depth to him we only get a glimpse of. The Batmobile is so badass. It's loud, fast and strong as hell. The car chase is crazy fun. It's hands down the best Batmobile ever. Matt Reeves directing is spot on. Fleshing the characters out as they have never been before. It's hard taking a multiple series character movie and making it feel fresh and new. Reeves did this beyond my wildest dreams. All the characters feel familiar yet new. You're seeing things with these characters you have not seen before. You can feel how much each actor has embraced their character and this is Reeve's directing. This is the truest comic book Batman I have seen. Reeve's nailed the character better than any other director. Expand

Way too long and underwhelming. It feels like it’s never going to end. Batman eats enough bullets to drop a tank. All side characters are just copies of each other. Very underwhelming movie with good premise and crime scenes (detective parts)

This movie was a major improvement over Affleck's batman and did the dark tone right like the Dark Knight Trilogy.

I loved the Nolan Batman films but this one destroys those films and gives a refreshing take on the worlds greatest detective. I can't wait for all the future content from this universe.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Batman is style over substance. The aesthetic, atmosphere, tone, and score are all great. Fight scenes work really well even though there are too few. Where the movie falters is in it's script, story, and character work. The narrative never really comes together, themes are inconsistent, character backstory and arcs are hamfisted, the romance lacks development, and for a focus on "realism" the movie has several unrealistic moments that will make you scratch your head. It's a good start to what I hope will be a new Batman franchise, but this one will underwhelm with it's dragged out pace and flat mysteries. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Cine negro moderno. Expand

The story is thrilling, every punch is felt, Batman's motivations and obsession is clear from the very beginning and it shows us a side to Batman we haven't previously seen, leaning into the psychology of his character heavily. His detective skills are also front and centre whilst not taking away from the action you would come to expect from a Batman story. The choreography is the best we've seen out of any existing Batman film, the gadgets are all practical and grounded in reality, the world feels alive and lived in, the acting is also superb throughout. The cinematography and score elevates all of the aforementioned too. My only critiques of the film is the pacing gets awkward toward the later half as it feels like it's going to end in at least 3 different times which takes away from the eventual climax and that it is apparent at times it's being held back by its PG-13 rating. Particularly when characters endure great physical punishment with little to no injury shown afterward. Otherwise it was simply fantastic and easily my favorite Batman film to date. It also leaves room for Batman to grow in the sequels making me all the more keen for the sequels. If you had any doubt before and you've read this, book that ticket now! Expand

For starters who was that person that was supposed to be Bruce Wayne/Batman? This Batman is afraid of heights? When he fights, he actually stumbles when hit by a punch or punches. Meanwhile he is supposed to wear a bullet-proof gear, so that bullets shot at him do nothing, and bounce off him like pop-corn. His armour is strong enough to withstand bullets coming at him at close quarters but not strong enough to absorb punches? This Batman is a walking oxymoron. Then, there is that silly walk, out of the dark to confront some street baddies, at a crime scene, and in a Police station. Talking about the Police Station, what is Batman doing at a Police Station? He seemed like a wanna-be sleuth volunteering to help the police with errands to buy doughnuts and coffee, hoping that one day he would some how get involved in the real crime-investigation stuff. How pathetic. The Batman portrayed in “The Batman” was anything but the Batman expected. This stripped down, brooding, detached version, made the character so ordinary. What is the point of dressing someone up in so much gear with all the gizmos and gadgets and then making him so ordinary? There is a reason why he is called a superhero. Batman either is or is not. If he is not, then get rid of the whole gear, which makes him look overdressed. Also, why did it take so long for the bat mobile to make an appearance, one of the bright spots in the movie? The bat cycle on the other hand just looked like an ordinary motorbike. To make bad, worse, all of the story unfolds over an unnecessarily long duration. No marks for guessing what my rating of this movie is. Expand
