I'll just say I wasn't expecting anything great but man was I wrong. Looks and feels like the actual source material.I could write a small essay on how much it got right. Dark, gloomy and outstanding in the performances and the film's pacing and setting far superior to the Nolan and Snyder films. So here are my thoughts on The Batman (2022):
- This movie is **** 3 hours long, and it damn feels like 3 hours! Maybe more than that!

Thought about giving it a 9 but gave it an 8 because I wasn’t really hooked with the ending. After the riddler’s capture it kind of got slow. An honest opinion would tell you that this movie is average at best and mediocre at worst. There are good moments, however, they are far and few between in this near 3-hour slog. There are good moments, however, they are far and few between in this near 3-hour slog. The Riddler is easily the worst part, he is nowhere near true to his comic self, whatsoever. He weirdly moans and sexualizes his crimes, which, while accurate to certain serial killers, makes me feel like this movie was composed by cringey edgelords seeking a 12-17-year-old audience who can't sus out the fact that this movie has no substance. Anyone calling it a detective movie is doing a disservice to you. Batman never solves anything minus a simple riddle. The Riddler is always a step ahead despite him being so sloppy the audience can even recognize him. The Batman himself is so off base and away from the source material. The tactician has become an amateur at his own art, choosing to actively run at people with guns.

The movie's just a mess, it's worth a single watch, but the ending act will leave you wanting, the movie itself may leave you wanting to just stop.… Expand

Although engaging by the end it is a long and boring slog to get there. I almost fell asleep during the first half of the movie just because I honestly didn't care about emo batman or the murders by weirdo riddler.

Anybody who thinks this was a bad movie must not have gotten a chance to see the new matrix movie yet.. this was decent, not as good as the joker but still quite entertaining. Ну, что сказать. Посмотрел я фильм только что и я разочарован.
Кино выглядит очень дёшево. Дёшево в нем всё. Сюжет начинается ни чем, ни чем и заканчивается. Костюмы выглядят ну очень так себе. Бэтмен большую часть фильма ездит не на суперНу, что сказать. Посмотрел я фильм только что и я разочарован.

Враги берутся неоткуда. Их мотивы тоже тайна. Лично я так и не понял мотивации "Загадочника". Да шишки Готэма уроды, но зачем убивать простых людей. Ещё я не понял зачем он сдался?
Так же не понял, какой осёл построил город в каком то котловане, который можно так легко затопить? А если землетрясение?
Более менее хорошо прорисован Альфред, да и то его убрали в середине фильма.
Честно говоря мне фильм больше напомнил какой то Condemned чем историю о тёмном рыцаре.
Признаюсь фильм начинал смотреть трижды. Первый раз заснул после 40 минут, второй раз ближе к финалу. Фильм невероятно нудный.
Хотя авторы как мне кажется решили сделать Брюса менее супер героем, а более человеком. Но это тоже не особо получилось. Паттинсон не обладает богатырской фигурой, но при весе в 70 кг умудряется расшвыривать 100 килограммовых мужиков пачками. Это ли не супер-дупер сила? То же касается и 40 килограммовой девочки кошки, у которой, опять таки, денег на нормальную маску не хватило.
Но самый большой вопрос у меня к персонажу "Пингвин". Зачем нужно было платить, я думаю не малые деньги, звезде Колину Фарреллу, если его лица всё равно узнать нельзя. На него натянули силиконовую маску, под которой мог находиться кто угодно. Да и сам персонаж какой то безыдейный. Кстати, почему его зовут пингвин я так и не понял.
Резюмирую. Фильм проходной, как по мне его ещё можно исправить в сиквеле, который точно будет, ведь в финале нам показали Джокера! Последний кстати тоже сидит в тюрьме Аркхэм. Чо он там делает и как попал, не понятно.
В сиквеле можно развить истории персонажей, может тогда фильм и заиграет.… Expand

It you ever imagined what a David Fincher superhero movie would feel like, it would be a lot like Matt Reeves The Batman. Visually it's a cross between Seven and Blade Runner. Visually it's a cross between Seven and Blade Runner. And you'd have to go back to the Burton's films that explore what an isolated, f'd up person Bruce Wayne/Batman truly is. As Willow Pill described being a drag queen as "mental illness with rhinestones", the Batman could be described as mental illness with costumes. And money. And weapons. And most of all, vengeance. The cast from Robert Patterson, Zoe Kravitz, Jeffrey Wright, to John Turturro and of course, Colin Farrell covered in prosthetics and dialing in a performance just this side of Al Pacino in Dick Tracy, is marvelous. And Paul Dano is a psychopath for the ages. My only complaints is that the film veers towards Roland Emmerich territory in the final acts, and the fact that in such a grounded film, Alfred survives an explosive attack, hospitalized, with hardly a scratch. I have never felt so bored by a Batman film before. It was 3 hours of slow, tedious dialogue, uninspired presentation, and sad sad characters (I never knew Batman could be so emo. That was A LOT of mascara under the eyes). And allow me toI have never felt so bored by a Batman film before. And allow me to educate the film makers from someone who actually reads comics, because I know they don't. Superheroes are larger than reality -- that's what makes them exciting. Previous Batman films had exotic tech, wild characters that wouldn't exist in real life, and Batman did things that stretch the imagination of what is possible for mortal men. But apparently, such extras are not included with Emo Batman action figures. He punches guys, hoists himself with grappling hooks, the bat mobile is a modified 80s muscle car, and uses a stupid base jumping suit to fall with style. It's a far cry from remote attracted bat swarms, trick baterangs, and outrageous vehicles like the Knightcrawler.

And don't think the blatant racism and sexism wasn't apparent. I see you DC and Warner Bros. I see how every evil character was a white man, and barring Batman and Alfred every decent character was black or Hispanic. I see your blackwashing and the white erasure of originally white characters like Selena and Jim. I see you getting Selena to specifically call the city of Gotham a place for "white privilaged **** I see you turning the Riddler into a sad, mentally unstable loner reminiscent of the mass shooters leftwing media likes to propagandize to engender misandry and white hatred. I see you and I am calling you out for your racism and sexism and am going to tell everyone it was you're companies.
And if you dear reader downvote my review based on this second paragraph, then I say with complete sincerity that you are a sexist and racist too and you should be ashamed of your sad, hate filled life.… Expand

The fact that Nirvana's "Something in the Way" -- a veritable anthem of depression --There is a clear desire amongst Batman movie directors to make each incarnation of Batman darker, edgier, and, as evidenced by this movie, more depressed. The fact that Nirvana's "Something in the Way" -- a veritable anthem of depression -- is used prominently in at least a couple of scenes is evidence of the vibe director Matt Reeves was going for. That's not necessarily bad, but you'll have to accept that vibe as being fundamental to Bruce's nature to enjoy this movie. Thankfully, Pattinson spends most of his screen time as Batman rather than Bruce. When he is Bruce, he doesn't seem at all like the incredibly wealthy playboy/philanthropist he's supposed to be. Given the humanitarian mission of Wayne Enterprises, it's pretty bizarre that its CEO would *always* look like he's contemplating suicide. He's trying to fool the public, right?

That said, the emphasis on Batman as detective was welcome. He's supposed to be an incredibly smart guy, and Reeves really lets Batman show his smarts here. And, of course, he wouldn't be Batman without his amazing fighting chops. The fight scenes here are just remarkable. The fight choreo is the best of any Batman movie, IMO. Kudos to the stunt people in this film! I also appreciated that Reeves shows that, despite Batman's remarkable physical ability, he's still human and has his limits, which are definitely tested here.

The story is mostly interesting, but it tries to tackle too much. The movie chooses to introduce us to Batman, Cat Woman, The Riddler, Penguin, and Falcone (and technically The Joker, though just as a brief sequel teaser). It touches on their backstories, but it didn't feel like any of their backstories got the time they deserve. And this shifting about across characters had me drifting off a bit somewhere in the middle; things felt a little unfocused.

Speaking of which, the movie doesn't justify its nearly 3-hour runtime. Given the long runtime, I wish they *did* focus more on backstories, but there are some overlong and unnecessary scenes which didn't add to the narrative. Still, this is a solid entry into the Batman catalog, and with a few tweaks, I'm hopeful that the next installment (which will almost certainly feature The Joker) will be even better.… Expand

Best movie ever!! Pattinson was amazing there, EVERYONE WAS. This movie is so good that i raised my eyebrows and cover my mouth and rewatch it 4x, i wish i could rewatch it again! Im usually kind but this is one of the worst movies i've ever seen. And i have no idea where the positive ones come from.

* He walks straight into room without any tactic or minding his surroundings. You know how he use to be silent and sneaky? Now he just walks in with his heavy boots clomping slowly into the room. He's walking like a kid that borrowed daddy's shoes and **** his pants. Its so weird.
* They only shoot him right at the strongest points of his armour. They even walk up to him and shoot point blank in the stomach even though they know its bulletproof. Maybe aim for the face? Nah!
* But that probably wouldnt work either since he literally takes a bomb to the face and nothing happends. And its straight in the face from a decimeter or two away. Not even a bruise.
* Batman doesnt kill. But still causes the biggest traffic accident in the citys history killing a dozen people and doesnt care. For no reason, the payoff was nothing.
* He has one personality trait: Sadness. Remember Afflecks sad Batman picture? Thats him for the entire movie. He has no other emotions. None. At one point he's angry but still manages to be sad at the same time. Another time he's sad and sad at the same time.
* You want some light flares? Well you got them! Especially since its constantly raining heavily and the camera has to be filming straight into car and motorcycle beams. But dont worry, you also get muzzle flares straight into your face because why not.

Just watch Batman Begins again. This is so bad.… Expand

Robert Pattinson is obviously well known and a very good actor but he truly embodies the role like I have not seen since Christian Bale. He is fierce, intimidating, calculating and not someone you ever want to catch in the wrong mood. He is fierce, intimidating, calculating and not someone you ever want to catch in the wrong mood. What you may not have expected however is that this is The Riddler's movie too and therefore a detective movie throughout.. perhaps the thing Christian's was missing the most of, Bruce is using his brain and quick thinking skills more here than he ever has in a live action movie. Selena Kyle played by Zoë Kravitz is perhaps the most shocking standout and has more to her than meets the eye and throughout her chemistry with Robert as Batman and Catwoman is the glue that holds this movie together. The villains of this movie are honestly what you would want. Cold. Hateful. Brutal. And of course.. loves to get on Batman's last nerve and make him truly think "Does he really deserve mercy?" BUT what keeps this movie from being a 10 was Paul Dano as The Ridder. Absolutely overacted the entire time and made me want to laugh in serious toned moments and that's a shame because for the first half of the movie he's great but that last half is just awful with his scenes. The most surprising thing about this movie is Bruce's psyche, his relationship with Alfred, his father figure, is heartfelt while also being somewhat realistic when a child experiences a tragedy and how to live with it and what he's going through the entire time and keeps you on the edge of your seat and his path to TRULY becoming the savior to Gotham they need and deserve. Matt Reeves has created not just one of the best detective movies I've ever seen but in my opinion a stronger first film than even Batman Begins and the best Batman movie since The Dark Knight Rises. Ladies and gentleman, Robert Pattinson is The Batman and we are in for some incredible films if this movie is the floor rather than the ceiling. We deserved this movie and everyone involved should be proud and excited for the future.… Expand

Corruption is palpable. Lies are palpable. Collusion and destruction are palpable. Sacrifice is palpable. Revenge is palpable. Who is right? A psychic killer who kills Gotham's financial and political corruptors for lies, corruption, and crime, or a police officer who has to bend over and work with criminals to make a living?… Expand

Watch the Joker 2019, or the Nolan trilogy, or the Tim Burton trilogy, In the Batman 2022 i didn't see any challenging and breathtaking moments! Why should the dialogues be poetic in the sequence of the mayor's murder? Why is Batman in the middle of every where? Why does he talk so much? Why does Alfred look stupid? The ultimate cope for Batman geeks, the most fragile and insecure fanbase on the planet. It's too derivative of David Fincher's work and it doesn't do anythingtHiS mOvIe iS NoT fOr kIdS tHiS iS a mOvIe fOr aDuLtS a MaTuRE cRImE ThRiLlEr.

The ultimate cope for Batman geeks, the most fragile and insecure fanbase on the planet. It's too derivative of David Fincher's work and it doesn't do anything the previous Batman movies haven't already done, well the Schumacher ones are excluded since his only contribution was a lot of neon.
The fans of The Batman are quite something else, they give the Nolan/Snyder cult a run for their money, when you point out that the movie is visually ugly and severely underlit, the only retort they have is "go watch Adam West and the Schumacher movies.".

To the people giving the Batman anything more than a 5/10, try watching something other than Star Wars and capesh*t.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A very good batman & detective movie that keeps you on the edge of your seath when things go fast. The movie ofcourse builts up the first part and succeeds in that. You know elements of the story , but in the 2nd half all the dots connect. The batman does his role really well. Same for zoe. Although im not fully shure that i really like her character. The riddler poses an excellent threat by his insanity and intelligence. The penguin feels a bit weak but at the same time he is used well enough in the movie to make him feel relevant in the story. He def has more up in his sleeve. Overall the movie has no big flaws that i can name but the dark knight just did everything better. Outside of the visuals , nothing is amazing just great. Yeah the romance came kinda out of nowhere. Which is a shame since it's such a hollywood cliche to have barely any romance between 2 charactersand yet they kiss :|

From the cinematography, score, performances, story, and depiction of Gotham and its characters, I loved a lot about this film. It has a nice balance of grounded and comic book moments. Everybody wants a already prime version of these characters when the journey itself is gonna pay off in the long run. In the first fight a predominantly white gang (now we know it's fiction) tries to convince an innocent black teen to commit a crime. He can't do it, of course, he's just too good. Commissioner Gordon is black now. As is Catwoman (who is also, of course, a lesbian). This is just the first 20 minutes, after which I turned it off.… Expand

Best atmosphere I’d never seen in a Batman movie. Darker, brutal with a young and clumsy heroe. Batman is constantly evolving. Robert Pattinson is convincing. Maybe the begining of a new DCU with Phoenix’s Joker.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A great take on Batman. More realistic in a sense and showed the early development of the legend surrounding Batman within his universe. This is not an experienced Batman, but his beginning steps with being the Batman. This movie depicts a Batman that is not a combat master or knows his way out of every situation because he lacks the experience. This movie will show Batman getting messed up because he is not thinking calmly, he is thinking with rage. I really appreciated the depiction of him being amateur Batman because it shows us something no Batman movie has shown before and that was him learning how to be the true Batman. By the end he has grown substantially as a character and learned from the mistakes he made throughout the movie. The villains in this movie are also within the early development of their villainous careers, showing the penguin before he is the top boss and who was there before him. The main villain is the riddler and this is the first instance Batman and the riddler ever come in contact. The riddlers perception of Batman is twisted and unknowing of the Batman’s true motives. Spoiler, but the riddler actually believes the Batman is his partner in vigilantism, due to his inexperience with Batman. This movie is a great watch that truly shows how Batman started and the struggles he went through to overcome his internal battle.… Expand

I loved it. It's very athmospheric, beautiful, and Robert Pattinson is terrific as the batman. His bruce Wayne is non-present, but he is okay as that. The actors played very well in their roles and I like the story: it reminded me more of the early comic books. The dark, morbid, creepy, and sad nature of things... yet there is hope and there is a fight that still lingers, and Batman, and Jim, while they are down, they are not giving up. And you can also feel the main villain wanting to "fix" things, in his own deranged manner... you feel bad for him but then you remember he's a psychopath criminal....... and lastly, by the end of the movie, you feel like things are reaching a boiling point.... things will get worse, but so will Batman. The musical score is awesome as well!… Expand

ROBOCOP MEETS BATMAN, The dumbest Batman Yet, 3hrs if disappointments, Batman mingling with cops,Commissioner Gordon exposes himself to working with Batman So The corrupt army of Cops can paint a bulls eye on Gordon's head and family and yet through out my amazement no one ever does. The world's greatest detective reduced to the world dumbest. The whole movie he was chaperones like a special needs students with a Para. Professional. No emotional attachment to any character no one cared for Alfred being in a coma. The movie so terrible the even Colin ferral had to be unrecognizable from the movie as not to be even mentioned in the credits. HIGH HEEL BOOTS why? Raz al ghul must be rolling in his grave. This movie gets a one because it helps worst joker to date. Even My 2yr old son had a harder time figuring riddles out from DORA the explorer then the riddles from the world's dumbest riddler. The Batman character introduction is so stiff, he walks like he has pole up his bun. Also the rain... OMG it rains in almost every scene. I'm surprised a freaking flash flood warning didn't appear on Batman's cellphone. Penguin seems to have a difficult time with his acting... The Riddler is so Cringe... Also they are always whispering... There's no one on the freaking rooftop... Why are they whispering with pounding rain? The beginning of the movie started great all to go to hell once the fighting started... "MORE RAIN PLEASE!!!" If you're wondering there also fire in the rain, yep... gun fights in the rain... yep explosions in the rain. Batman walking in the rain... yep. If you love rain this is your movie. Cliche after cliche... It's such a bad movie. Drug factory, been there done that. Bodies in the back of a car... yep. Keep in mind we are living in a cancel culture and we are also living in a world where it's easy for people to put up a few sentences and say something is good. Only thing they did right was the detective skills. This is Batman we talkin about, he suppose to go toe to toe with superman right? he was literally a punching bag. Set construction, atmospheric rendering, audio, lighting, layout, pace, and all of the heavy portrayal of this night-time horrible Gotham, and this youthful and rebellious Bruce Wayne, The Batman's ambition is unquestionably bigger than envisaged.

I was surprised about how vulnerable and human this batman is compared to the others. Of course he isn't going to be beat but this one feels a little more like an actual human being than some almost supernatural invincible entity. The movie is too long. There are so many scenes, where the actors are moving so slowly and it is done in little slow motion. It is annoying sometimes. The character Riddler was interesting, he had some good character traits, but he was shown too nerdy.
But there are some good things in the movie: The dark settings was nice, it is almost like a film noir, maybe even a bit too dark. The action scenes were also great. And the focus on the detective part of Batman was interesting, but somehow artificial and unrealistic, I prefered the first quarter of the movie.… Expand

Emo Batman. Other than "I am vengeance", there's no banter. He just beats the hell out of people. And its 30 min too long. Riddlers costume was a gimp mask? Good, but not a great Batman movie.

At three hours, it could use some judicious editing. This is especially true for the first half of the movie. It sets the tone for the movie and it does so emphatically and repeatedly--nearly endlessly. The real action and the meat of the movie does not really get going until the last one-third of the movie. That part of the movie is when the story starts to get interesting. It just takes way too long to get there. And it's so very dark it's hard to see what is actually happening.… Expand

I loved the gothic presentation of the film. The villains were also not overdone and fit in well as the title suggested. It is a great film noir detective, so much so that it is literally a superhero film second. There are no memorable set pieces sans one, which is a great chase scene. The casts? Absolutely great, with Pattison bringing in an interpretation of the character never seen before. But the best performance? None other than Colin Farrell as the Penguin! He is utterly unrecognizable and should I say Oscar worthy. Other than that, incredible production designs as per usual from WB. Biggest weakness of the film? It is 3 hours long and while it made the story coherent, as a movie it does it a bit disservice. Other than that, a great start for this franchise.… Expand

I really enjoyed this. It feels like a great return to the core cheesy whodunnit detective story that birthed the original character. Rawcus moments of bombastically actiony stuff aside, I never thought I'd love to watch a superhero movie where a lead character states 'white previlage' in a given sentence. Can we not even escape life's drama bs without being confronted with it within a make believe comic book world now? That aside I had a lot of fun here.… Expand

Overly long and dark for the sake of being dark.
Pattinson's Batman is far, far better than his angst ridden, sullen, sulky, emo, Wayne.
Kravitz is great, Farrell is phenomenal and it was a travesty he didn't get more screen time. Dano'sOverly long and dark for the sake of being dark.

Kravitz is great, Farrell is phenomenal and it was a travesty he didn't get more screen time. Dano's take on the Riddler was a bit much, its like there is middle ground between Carrey and Dano, and well, they missed it by turning him into a masked loon, think Michael Meyers with a larger vocabulary.
Serkis' Alfred is almost non-existent and the side story about Catwoman is an utter waste of time.
The score is a high point.
The reality is this story could have been told in 90 minutes to 2 hours max. Its over-inflated run time is arrogant and self indulgent.
Don't get me wrong, I had very low expectations for The Batman and it was far, far better than I thought it would be, but this sums it up:
It ain't no "Dark Knight Trilogy"… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie was so incredible dark and grim. Its almost like i would advise anyone with depression and dark thoughts to stay away..
This movie is stripped with over-the-top gadgetry where Batman uses more conventional tools. His Batmobile is just a souped up muscle car. Very stripped to the bone.
But the movie is more a noir-gothic detective flick (in colour) with just the right amount of action. Its like Sherlock Holmes in modern times where he dons a cape and a cowl.
They steal a great deal from Finchers Se7en. Especially from when they search The Riddlers apartment is ripped straight out of Se7en.
From there on out its all John Doe and Ledgers Joker motifs.
But the production value is top. Good performances from Pattinson and Wright. However, 3 hours is a tad bit to much. It drags plenty in the end.
But i dont think Batman can be taken more into darkness than this rendition..… Expand
