Incredible comic book movie, highly recommend it! I honestly thought, I would hate it, but the movie captured me within the first few minutes. Probably the most amazing thing for me was the soundtrack which kinda hammered scenes into myIncredible comic book movie, highly recommend it! I honestly thought, I would hate it, but the movie captured me within the first few minutes. Probably the most amazing thing for me was the soundtrack which kinda hammered scenes into my brain. Many iconic scenes in this movie too, as people already pointed out.

The cast is really great, loved Zoe and Robert does a really good job, at least in costume. As Bruce Wayne he is kinda lacking for me. The effects are really good, as is the action.

Two things that I didn't like. The movie is too dark, if that trend continues, the next Batman will be unwatchable. And it is a bit too long, it should have been trimmed down at least a bit.

All in all, I highly recommend it!… Expand

Woke movie with racism towards white people (which is of course we ALL know that isn't racism at all), including the usual character stealing (called "diversity").

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First of all the actor Robert Pattison don’t portray the Batman character well.. secondly the director and writer made a boring story. The film was too dark as if everything was filmed at nights (I hate movies that 90% were shot at night, it’s too annoying). The bike and car wasn’t technically advanced for a character like Batman who is known for his intense advanced technology bike, car and flying pad. The story was awful, it was as if the director or writer got bored or confused midpoint to find a way to conclude the tiring storyline. Riddle actor portrayal actor was totally wrong. Total waste of 3 hours… Expand

Robert Pattinson in the bat suit looks somewhat comical at times although the reactions from characters make it work. It is a realistic and believable direction for Batman and really harkens back to his origins when we still called DC, Detective Comics. You really believe these villains could exist and can even empathize with them. With some better writing and story direction resulting in a more meaningful middle and more significant finale this may have just been the best Batman has ever been on film.… Expand

Great Batman movie. DC is a thousand times better than Marvel. Thanks for making adult superhero films. This movie is pretty dark with a serious dark tone to it. Yeah, I'm well aware that this will never be considered the best live action Batman film to the mass audience, BUT IT IS TO ME. First of all, as a long time fan of the character since I was in my diapers, I really appreciated the influencesYeah, I'm well aware that this will never be considered the best live action Batman film to the mass audience, BUT IT IS TO ME. First of all, as a long time fan of the character since I was in my diapers, I really appreciated the influences from Year One, The Long Halloween, EGO, Earth One, Zero Year, Dark Victory, and many more other comics. There's also a lot of love for Adam West's Batman, the Arkham Games, and the telltale series in this. The film itself has A lot of Taxi Driver, Se7en, Chinatown, and Zodiac in there which are one of my all time favorites so that definitely factors in for my love of this movie. The Cinematography, Score, Story, Characters, Set designs, lighting/color palettes, performances, and atmosphere are all on point to me. The highlights to me were Robert Pattinson as Batman/Bruce Wayne who nails the darkness and humanity of the character, The score by Michael Giachinno absolutely captures the noir/heroic side of this universe reminding me at times of the animated series, and the world of Gotham city which feels absolutely hopeless making the history feel rich. I wish some story beats were explored more and some resolutions weren't solved by exposition and convenience’s. Other than that, I absolutely loved this film and I cannot wait for what Matt Reeves and the team does next with The Batman sequels/Spin-offs.… Expand

WTF is wrong in Hollywood? There's no one there that still know how to make movies anymore?
This thing was horrendous and boring.

The tone is awful. You can hardly hear what is being said. The film is dark. There's way too much pausing of dialog. Consequently, the movie gets unwatchable quickly. This is a "Don't waste your time" kind of movie.

I wouldn't call this a Comic book movie, it was literal CINEMA and even tho it had its fair share of problems, it was one of the best movies of the last couple of years. the director/cinematographer match was literal perfection. and Paul dano did a wonderful job same as always, and I don't think i need to tell you, Robert Pattinson is not just a pretty boi anymore! his recent movies have been amazing and he is an amazing actor. the only thing i would change is to maybe add 20 more minutes to the movie to see Bruce and Alfred connect a little because their connection wasn't really explored until after Alfred almost died. it would be nice to connect with him a little more before thinking he is dead. overall this movie is amazing and i totally recommend it IF you like long movies. this movie is not for everyone, certainly not for people who just watch comcic book movies. if you like thriller slow paced movie you will fall in love with this movie same as I did. im pretty sure the sequel will be much better as the director will have more freedom… Expand

Great movie.. but a hella dark one. It's also pretty long too, it's almost 3 hours. Robert might have not been the best choice for batman in my opinion though.

This is the best batman film ever made, why? Stay tunned ...
1. It's the film too long? No, I didn't notice that almost 3 hours passed cause the tone, the vibe was so intriguing that kept me hook to the screen all that time.

2. Was the acting of Robert Pattinson good enough to please the Batman's fans? For me, yes it is. Batman's character it is driven by vengeance, a lone vigilante who doesn't feel ok with killing but can't stand injustice, not so chatty, with a heavy past, a burden, not been able to solve his parent's murder, so from time to time he has some emotional burst, completely understandable.
3. The Batman-Catwoman interaction was classic, well performed, as it's supposed to be. It made recall the old batman classics.
4. Jim Gordon was terrifically well performed by Jeffrey Wright.
There are so many aspects to recall about the film looking for perfection (status that actually doesn't exist) that I could go on for a big while, detractors, those who whine for every plausible things they didn't liked of the film, they will never be pleased, they will always complain. For us the true fans it was an outstanding film for the great hero that Batman it's.… Expand

It didn't do much for me.
Slow, too long, too dark (I mean lighting not story), a little derivated, some major changes in notoriuos DC characters (story, personality and motivation), some dialogues (important ones, like riddles) are difficultIt didn't do much for me.

Overrated film. It's dark and grounded but not inspiring and not fun at all. Lets not forget it's a superhero movie. The action scenes are way too few and boring. It's overlong, the story is nothing to write home about, the chemistry between the characters not that great (especially with catwoman). The most emo, dumb, wimpy Batman of them all.

As a Batman movie it only surpasses the Joel Schumacher ones. I don't think I'll be seeing the sequel.… Expand

You know what I'm want to say I don't want to compare this movies to previous other batman movie because sir Matt revees already said about this movie that this not the origin tale of batman and this movie is not likely that we have watched before. But still, whenever I watch the Nolan's dark knight trilogy I stuck and never get bored to watch that trilogy and also I want to include bvs, I really enjoy that film like Nolan's dark knight trilogy and Zack snyders justice league and Zack snyders batman vs Superman whenever I watch Enjoy it every time That's it.
This film is also great and I literally get goosebumps while watching this film first time and I gonna go watch again

This is a great starting point for a new franchise for this character and world. The cinematography, score, story, action, and performances were all great. As a Batman fan I adored the comic book adaptions this movie took from such as The Long Halloween, Dark Victory, Earth One, Ego, Year One, and some Scott Snyder & Greg Capullo stories. Just like 2019’s Joker, The Batman is a standalone movie featuring Robert Pattinson as the the character and not part of DC Extended Universe. This is the first solo Batman movie after 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises which is part of The Dark Knight Trilogy. Currently, this movie is the first instalment of the planned Batman trilogy by Matt Reeves, who is known for directing 2014’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and 2017’s War for the Planet of the Apes.

In his second year as a masked vigilante, Batman (Pattinson), he investigates the murder of Gotham City Mayor Don Mitchell Jr. on Halloween. The mayor was murdered by a mysterious serial killer called Riddler (Dano), who targets corrupt and powerful Gotham City figures. Apparently, he left a riddle behind for Batman. Soon after, Riddler kills Commissioner Pete Savage and left another riddle for him.

After solving the first two riddles, Batman and Lieutenant James Gordon finds a thumb drive in the late Mayor’s car. The thumb drive contains pictures of the mayor with a Russian woman at Iceberg Lounge which is operated by Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin, Don Carmine Falcone’s lieutenant. While Penguin deny knowing the Russian woman, Batman come across Selina Kyle (Kravitz), who is a roommate with that woman.

With Selina’s help, Batman learns that Gotham District Attorney Gil Colson along with the late police commissioner, are under the payroll of Don Falcone. Riddler strikes again when he abduct Colson later that night and use him to crash the mayor’s funeral the next day. He left another riddle for Batman while Colson was strapped with a timed collar bomb. Batman has to solve the mystery of the serial murders in Gotham City before Riddler kills more innocent people along the way.

If you are expecting to watch Batman’s parents died on the big screen again, you will be glad to hear that this does not happened at all. This one part will let you know that this movie is not gonna be another retelling of an origin story. This movie puts more focus on Batman’s detective skills than the previous movies where this skill was not put much to use. Using the Riddler as the main villain really does align in the movie for Batman to use his detective skills. As the movie used the mystery-solving angle, the movie will keep you engage with the story and you will not feel bored while watching. Speaking of bored, there is not a single scene in this movie is boring because the story of this movie is really well written and the pacing is very good which nothing is out of place. With a well written story and good pacing, you will feel that movie is like a two and half hour movie instead of near three hour movie. Kudos to Matt Reeves for a very well done job in directing this movie. His direction of this movie can rival towards Christopher Nolan’s direction of his Batman movies.

Robert Pattinson’s performance is really great. Not only his Batman is intimidating like his predecessors, his version of Batman spend more screen time as the Caped Crusader than his actual identity as Bruce Wayne. His character developement is done well from his journey as from a vigilante to being a symbol of hope which I believe will carry on into the next instalments. I’m sure his predecessors is proud of him. Paul Dano not only does a great job in playing The Riddler but portraying the character as a Zodiac Killer-style serial killer is really an interesting choice and one great way to introduce this villain into a modern day comic books cinematic. Zoë Kravitz along with the other casts have really done an outstanding performance in the movie. I also liked her on-screen chemistry with Pattinson which I felt it so natural. I felt that this movie does a better Batman-Catwoman relationship than the previous movies.

There are not many bad things about this movie. The only bad thing about this movie is Andy Serkis, who played the role of Alfred Pennyworth, have very little scenes compared to his predecessors. Because of less scenes in the movie, Batman and Alfred’s relationship was not explored well. Hopefully, it does better in the next movies.

As I have mentioned earlier, this is a standalone Batman movie with no connection to DC Extended Universe which means you do not have to watch any previous instalments. While the movie is unconnected, there is no doubt that this movie is a masterpiece and worth rewatching. Last but not least, there is no post-credits scenes.… Expand

They really need to get the bots off this site. The new Batman is clumsy, bizarre, uneven, thinks its a totally different genre, and has some of the lamest action sequences that I didn't even know were possible to have in a movie about freaking Batman. Robert Pattinson plays, "some guy larping as Batman," and legit doesn't look or carry the weight or the part of the comic book character and is so gratingly thick throughout the movie you might think he's one of those paper-thin C list superheroes instead. Casting is a joke, with a strange sequence at the beginning involving a gang of "thugs" or mini-future-joker enthusiasts perhaps?

They restrain a clearly asian man, to ironically ask the only black kid in the group to "knock him out" as some sort of rite of passage. I mean they could just take his darn wallet, but they've really got to prove a point I suppose. Are people in hollywood even remotely aware of the violence from the last 3 years directed towards Asian people by actual black perpetrators? How alarmingly out-of-touch.
So the kid chickens out, Batman shows up, with the leader of the gang somehow unaware of who Batman even is even though the opening crawl dialogue tells us he's been "watching the streets" for a couple of years. This whole gang doesn't know who Batman is or has never heard of him? Even after the montage of various other minor crime examples all cower as soon as they look at their own shadow under the vague light of the Bat signal? They all seem to know Batman. What ensues is one of the worst fight scenes I've ever seen in a film, and yes- I've seen Turkish Star Wars among many other films.

Pattinson almost drunkenly stands in the middle of these seven or eight dudes and gets wailed on several times, but then somehow bumps a few of them in such an uncomfortable fashion that they turn tail and flee. One dude literally pulls out a gun and takes aim, but the other thug who didn't want to commit violence tries to stop him. The bullets magically ricochet off Batman! Must be a new super power he picked up from a better Batman movie.

They then all scatter, and we get an extremely drawn out scene where Batman walks through a throng of police people at a murder scene with some black guy who isn't Lucius Fox I guess again larping as James Gordon. This is about as far as I could possibly get in the movie without falling asleep or killing myself, so honestly I don't care what happens beyond that point. The opening Riddler reveal scene is so goofy, that I almost peed my pants. Its legitmately one of the worst villain reveal scenes I've ever seen in a movie and its played one hundred percent straight.

Not recommended to anyone with half a brain or fans of the DC comics or even the Nolan films. Its so low effort and Pattinson and Kravitz are just not suited for these roles whatsoever.… Expand

Too many forced romance scenes between Batman and Catwoman. Inconsistent Batman who is sometimes bulletproof and sometimes not. Says he is the shadows but walks right into conflicts--common thugs happy to challenge him. Paper thin characters: Alfred, Gordon, the Riddler's victims, the reporter killed by Falcone. Endless fakeouts. Batman is shot/blown up! Oh no he's fine. Alfred is dead! Oh no he's not. Batman is going to run over Penguin! Oh no he's not. Catwoman shot Falcone! No she didn't. Riddler knows Batman's secret identity! No he does not. The major was shot! She's just fine. And many more too depressing to recount.… Expand

1. The film goes the way DC should be, dark gritty, and more. Jokes like the thumb drive joke are how DC comedy is supposed to work not putting some random one or two liners in between
2. The story is perfect and isn't rushed, this is a big plus for me the film was perfectly made and no part for me felt rushed, each character was given time to establish themselves properly and set their own stage. Catwoman was made clear that she doesn't want to be with batman and their part was slowly built up the revelation that Carmine is the main villain and he had Bruce parent murdered was also well handeled.
3. The character selection was great and the way each character was designed and Gotham was just perfect.THe movie is probably one of the most comic-accurate batman films I ever saw and am happy with the way they made it. Riddler Carmine Falcone they were just perfect.
4. The movie has the best soundtrack to any superhero movie till date for me
5. EVen though the movie was amazing one major drawback has to be the climax. It felt like the climax was draggggged a lot and could have been a lot quicker. Cutting at least 8 min.

Very dense, dark, cold. A totally devastated, dirty, criminal city. Bruce is quite tormented. Gordon and Bruce play 2 detectives investigating all the rottenness of the police, politicians v and millionaires. It's very reminiscent of "Se7en".Very dense, dark, cold. It's very reminiscent of "Se7en". The rider is totally insane and at the end you have to hit people to make them react (just like Se7en's killer). Impeccable performances. Edward Cullen goes from being a stupid vampire to a smart bat. Catwoman does a good job. Falcone is the fearsome crime boss and the Penguin is not far behind climbing the rungs. Bruce's parents are not totally clean. The final cameo lets you wanting to see what is to come for the saga. It is a pretty long and slow movie, it is not for everyone, many will be bored with Batman's voice off saying his thoughts. It is definitely not for children. There isn't much action but it has its 3 moments so you don't get bored with a Batman unleashed. In the end, Batman is what he should be: an altruistic vigilante capable of doing the impossible to save his beloved Gotham. If they took 20 minutes out of the 3 hours it would probably be better.… Expand

Things I liked: The Cast: Andy Serkis is awesome in everything he does, Patterson did a great job, Jeffery Wright is the next generation's Morgan Freeman. I really like Zoe Kravitz in most things she does but she seemed kind of ... I really like Zoe Kravitz in most things she does but she seemed kind of ... 'off' in this one. In fact the whole Batman-Catwoman romance didn't work for me. He acts all stoic, she throws some half-azzed flirtations his way and I guess that's supposed to be a romance of sorts? Colin Farrel deserves an Oscar for his performance has the Penguin. If people weren't told who was playing Cobblepot ahead of time they never would have guessed it. Paul Dano was a little...eh... much. I could have done with a little toning down of the Riddler without the PG-13 Seven wannabe.
The action was top notch and some of the best of any batman movie.
So why the score? Three major issues bring big negatives in my book: the cinematography is some of the worst I've ever seen in any movie. As dark and unrecognizable as Solo or some eps of the last season of GoT. I had to turn my brightness to max on my TV just to see what was happening in this movie. If Solo gets a knock for it, so should this movie.
The second big negative is the musical score. The entire soundtrack is a riff of the same 4 notes used over... and over.. and over again and it gets old very quick in a 3 hour movie and that brings me the third big negative:
The length. There is no way this movie needed to be 3 hours. After hearing about "Saving Gotham" with a brooding Batman for 2 hours.. I was done and tuning out for the last hour.
My next big point: this is the third Batman in 10 years. They've introduced the fourth Joker in 15 years. Why is WB so afraid of making a BM movie without even a mention of the Joker? Can we get some new villains up in here? Black Mask, Hush, Clayface, anyone that hasn't been on the big screen before? Maybe someone a little more comic-booky like Man-bat,instead of these gangsters and psychopaths, Can we quit trying to push Batman as the darkest superhero, who doesn't kill mind you, while treading the PG-13 line? I just need something new and refreshing and different in a Batman movie and this was just a harder attempt at a Batman-Nolan movie.… Expand

If you asked me, this is just a film that affords the writer and director to express their sick-mindedness. The best thing about "The Batman" is Zoe Kravitz. Heck, she might be the only good thing.

The Batman is an enjoyable movie starring Robert Pattinson who steals the show with his performance. This movie feels smooth and the storytelling is next level. I mean Paul Dano very well may be the worst big name actor, but he didn't ruin The Batman, which was a confusing movie in and of itself. It did have me laughing uproariously at a couple points.

The Batman is the worst Batman movie. I gave up after 2hrs. It reminded me of a bad re make of the movie Seven. It just doesn't make very much sense, and Robert Patterson looks and acts like an emo Heroin junkie. There is a lot going on,The Batman is the worst Batman movie. I gave up after 2hrs. There is a lot going on, but it doesn't really seem coherent. Similar to how the last season of Game of thrones jumped around to cover a lot of ground. I liked the idea of the how bruce wayne's family had done some shady stuff, and the riddler was trying to expose it, but patterson is just such a bad actor its to hard to sit through. Look at Patterson and jeffery wright trying to solve a mystery and compare that to brad pit and morgan freeman in seven. The imagery is way to similar. With all that money they couldn't come up with something original smh… Expand

An interesting take on the Batman franchise, it sometimes leans a little too heavily on detective noir tropes. Whilst not as cinematic or inventive as the Keaton/Burton or Bale/Nolan interpretations, this version of The Batman does lean intoAn interesting take on the Batman franchise, it sometimes leans a little too heavily on detective noir tropes. Whilst not as cinematic or inventive as the Keaton/Burton or Bale/Nolan interpretations, this version of The Batman does lean into "world's greatest detective" areas of the characters lore that are often ignored. This at once feels fresh and trite as the script often leans on established detective noir tropes, which, especially in the voice over sections can feel cringeworthy due to some poor delivery from Pattinson.
Beyond these very short, seldom, poorly scripted moments however, the movie works very well. Whilst it may not have reached the very high heights of some Batman movies, it does feel authentic and compelling for the full 3 hour runtime and if nothing else it gives superhero movie fans something far more interesting to watch than the painfully dull, over sanitised Disney/Marvel, kids movies. Not perfect, by any means, but a great model to pursue for the future of the DC franchise.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's a very dark movie that loved the scenes in which Batman is angry at his opponents. My adrenaline level rises when I watch these scenes. I like Robert Pattinson, he was perfect for the role of Batman he's great. She stars Zoë Kravitz as the catwoman. I also liked Riddler and his intelligence, Paul Dano was a perfect fit for the role. Gordon is great, I loved the scene of Batman slapped and then the police chased Batman. Batman's chase of the penguin was an unforgettable sight. An awesome and epic theme that captures the state of Gotham City. Eagerly waiting for the sequel… Expand

Achei o filme bom, mas tem algumas coisas que me incomodam é de virar o olho sempre que colocam um personagem oprimido pra ficar falando coisas como: é esses branquinhos privilegiados tiveram o que mereciam. Sabe o que isso me lembra? Ekko do arcane cuja personalidade na série e ficar falando toda hora como ele sofre e como os mais ricos não ajudam e só fala isso, mas enfim achei as cenas de ação não muito boas faltou impacto no batman batendo mesmo e tirando a mulher gato e o batman não gostei do resto nem o Alfred passou a química infelizmente. Destaque pra parte da mulher gato no dialogo com o batman sobre o passado dela achei essa a melhor parte do filme.… Expand

Finally, a good Batman movie.

I was waiting for a good take on the bat since the fiasco that was Dark Knight Rises. This movie has it all.

A compelling villain, a good cast, gorgeous cinematography, Batman as a detective (yay)

Recommended.

I love this movie for it being comically accurate. it was the batman being a detective and I love how simple they can keep it sometimes. everyone's acting in the movie was so excellent. whoever says this movie is "overrated", I disagree with you.

It's dark and realistic, but also stylish and large-scale. It's not limited by a commitment to realism like the Dark Knight trilogy, nor is it burdened by a shared universe like the DCEU. It is its own thing. A moody, disturbing, visually stunning, David Fincher-inspired, three hour long detective epic with some of the best interpretations of the characters ever put on screen.

Robert Pattinson is fantastic as a younger, moodier, and yes, more emo Batman. Paul Dano is straight up terrifying as the Riddler. Colin Farrell is unrecognisable in more ways than one as The Penguin and Zoë Kravitz is easily my favorite live-action Catwoman.

This movie kept me hooked all the way through, even if I said before, the third act is its weakest part. But that's like saying that the cone is the worst part of an ice cream cone. It's true, but it's still delicious.

This is the best Batman movie. The Dark Knight is good and all, but Reeves finds the perfect mix of gritty realism and style (Nolan would never even dare to have a snorricam shot of Batmam gliding over the city), and finally gives us a live-action Batman that lives up to the title of "World's Greatest Detective". Not that there's much competition, since he's like the only one to actually do any detective work (no, Christian Bale magically finding a fingerprint on a broken bullet doesn't count).… Expand
