Unfortunately the spell doesn’t quite go according to plan…

You can pick holes in the plot if you really want to, and it’s hard to argue with those saying this movie is largely fan service, but at a time when my interest in the MCU was just starting to wane Marvel have produced one of their best movies to date. Reviewing this movie without spoiling the surprises is difficult to do, so I’ll just say that if you’re a fan of Spider-Man movies you simply have to see this.

This is not the best Spider-man film, but it is definetelly one of the most crowd pleasing film in the series. All the incredible cast of characters work so well and have so much chemistry that it is incredibly insane that this film can ever be made. But it also shows how savvy Kevin Feige and Co. is. This film reconciles a thorny relationship between Disney and Sony in a way that made an absolute 'win-win' for all parties involved. As somebody in business myself, I am absolutely floored by these, opening up a great mount of possibility. No spoiler here though are two very important after credit scenes, both are equally important folks so stick around after the credit. Expand

The movie is very emotional, sometimes you yell with delight, sometimes you want to cry. It's a pity that the trailers told us everything before the release, if not for that, all emotions would be tripled. Still, it is one of the best superheroes movie I've ever seen, and I thank Marvel for making it. Expand

The twenty-seventh episode of the MCU is all about fan service, nostalgia and fun without compromise or complications. And, is there anything wrong with that?

There are art films, cult films, and films like this one that offers you an escapist fantasy. I have never confused them and as in everything, there are levels of quality, and of course different criteria and opinions.
I only know that what I was looking for from this film was exactly what I found.

I had a lot of fun, and as a comic book reader since childhood, what I saw unfold on screen filled me with joy.

True, there are plot holes. Many of its elements are gratuitously justified so as not to overcomplicate things, and many times the pacing gets bogged down, but overall, things flow in a good way, as is usually the case with all Marvel movies.

The best thing? The closure it provides for what came before for the character, and most importantly, how it re-imagines Peter Parker, with Tom Holland finally becoming Spider-Man, and not Tony Stark's protégé and heir.

He has reclaimed his mantle, under his own hands. We'll have to see where they take him from here.

A shame too, because the rest of the film goes out of it's way to be respectful and pay attention to detail to all the various returning characters and their stories. Some of the emotional beats feel a bit forced but in general it's a high wire act pulled off more than satisfyingly (for the men at least). Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. No Way Home is everything I wanted it to be. I will admit that I was hesitant about this before the film came out due to the nostalgic elements but it worked beautifully. This film isn’t without fault though. Doctor Strange acts out of character here to do the spell for Peter and Ned being really good at making portals before Strange was doesn’t make a lot of sense. Sandman says a line that throws a MASSIVE plot hole into Raimi’s Spider-Man films. It’s very obvious that the filmmakers didn’t know what to do with Sandman and The Lizard. They just kinda hang out in the background and unfortunately the actors for them aren’t doing a great job. I could really pick apart the plot if I wanted to but this film does so much right that I can’t bring myself to do it. Electro is a massive improvement from his appearance in TASM2 and Jamie Foxx is clearly having fun with the role. Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock is great and it feels like he hasn’t left the role. I’m glad that he stops being a villain halfway through and has a hand in helping the hero’s during the final battle. Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin steals the show. He ended up being my absolute favorite MCU villain. Dafoe steps back into his Goblin shoes flawless. His performance can be absolutely terrifying at points. In the apartment scene where he fights Tom Holland, the score becomes incredibly haunting as Holland lands blow after blow while Dafoe laughs manically. It’s haunting and amazing. Speaking of the score, it’s absolutely fantastic. It adds so much emotion to the story and helps with the grand feeling. The light motifs for each character works brilliantly when thrown into the scene. The biggest strength this film has is the death of Aunt May and the return of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Men. Aunt May’s death came out of nowhere and really hit hard when she dies in Peter’s arms. It’s a brilliant scene. Tobey and Andrew step back into the suit perfectly with Andrew Garfield being the best part of the film in my opinion. Both of them bring back their quirks of their Spider-Men and they have their own little redemption moments. Tobey saves Goblin from being stabbed by Tom’s Spider-Man and Andrew saves MJ from death in an absolutely beautiful scene and brilliant performance from Garfield. It almost made me cry to watch Garfield realize that he had redeemed himself and saved someone but in the end, this is Holland’s film and he goes through Hell in this. He loses his aunt and in the end, everyone forgets who he is and it’s brilliant. Holland finally shines in his best performance as Spider-Man here. It’s heartbreaking to see him go through all of this but in the end, when he loses everyone, he looks on the bright side and continues being Spider-Man. It’s what his aunt and friends would want him to do. He makes his own custom suit and swings out to continue being Spider-Man and in that moment, Tom Holland became his own Spider-Man. This film does so much right and I would HIGHLY recommend watching this as soon as possible. Expand

1) Great fan service
2) A bit of drama and tragedy
3) Not So Bad Jokes
It's hard to describe without spoilers, so I just recommend watching.

The downside is the post-credits scenes (the first scene hints to us what will be in the next films, and the second is just a #nospoiler).

I didn't think Marvel would come up with anything this spectacular after Endgame. The new Spider-Man may not surpass the Avengers in my opinion, but he's damn close on their heels. This was unreal. All three Spider-Men together. Seeing Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man on screen was a dream of mine and this movie made it come true. When he showed up, I thought I was gonna cry. Aside from him, I was very happy to see old familiar bad guys like Goblin and Octopus, who were absolutely excellent. I keep raving about how much I enjoyed the return of familiar faces from the Spider-Man trilogy, but I also have to praise the line of the current one or Tom Holland, which was also wonderful and had some really great moments. What I was very pleasantly surprised by, and actually can't believe, is how much they managed to cram it all into two and a half hours. It's already a longer film, but with a giant cast of characters. It's all very fast-paced here, so I wasn't bored at all and kept getting adrenaline shots. Wordless action. Totally unreal. Famous. I enjoyed it so much. As I mentioned the film is fast paced but despite that there is nothing rushed and I felt like every character had their own space. I don't understand how Marvel does it, but in short, they've proven that they can take bigger bites and do a great job of it, and I'm smiling. This movie had huge potential, no doubt. I was worried it wouldn't live up to it. I'm having a hard time judging it here. I'm slightly disappointed by some things and slightly pleased by others. Some things have been pleasantly surprising, others have been disappointing. In short, I could even imagine some moments that would have been perfect with all three Spider-Men, but unfortunately it didn't happen. On the contrary, there were other moments that I didn't expect and I was very pleasantly surprised and they were really cool. But I think it turned out great and with a few exceptions I'm absolutely satisfied. It's already a longer film and if all the potential was to be used, I really don't know how many hours the film would end up being. But a lot was accomplished in 2 and a half hours, for which I take my hat off. To sum it up. Spider-Man: No Way Home is, in my opinion, one of the best Marvel movies ever made, and for me, a great movie that I recommend. Expand

The movie was a praise for him, praise for him was sufficient and perfect. It was even like a love letter which is written with long contemplating from a fresh lover. I didn't like the story or hero's narrative much, but I can definitely understand that Spider-Man was completely absorbed by the MCU. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I didn’t think I would love this movie as much as I do. Probably my favourite Spiderman movie of all time. It looks great, it sounds great and it is amazing. My main issue is the whole reason for all the crazy multi-verse stuff happening. Now if you look past that you find that this is a real gem of a film.

Peter wants everyone to forget that he’s Spiderman, except for MJ, Ned, Aunt May and maybe one or two more. Dr Strange is given those exceptions midway during him casting the spell. Why not just hash it out beforehand instead of just jumping to ‘brainwashing the world’. That’s not like Dr. Strange’s character to do something like that. Peter’s character would be a little wishy washy like that since he has been so far in this MCU but the doctor is smart and has a thinking brain. He might even talk Peter out of it or make sure that they get the parameters of the spell correct before casting it. Ridiculous!

Everything else is brilliant. Bringing Daredevil into the universe I absolutely love it. Are we going to see a stand-alone movie or a series with him. I hope so. And if so I will get Disney Plus for that series or movie. Love that character. I nearly cried when I saw him.

But that wasn’t the only returning character. The three Spidermans were on screen together. It wasn’t just cameos, they were proper supporting characters in this movie. And the way they had Andrew Garfield’s Spiderman catch MJ felt like it was closing his arch. A second chance for redemption after he was unable to save Gwen. That was beautiful. Toby’s Spiderman showed why he’s the GOAT. He is wise and offered what useful information Tom Holland’s character needed to hear.

The way the movie ended I didn’t care for, not because it was bad no, it wasn’t the ending I wanted. And that venom teaser we got a few months back was a bluff it turns out. Eight I think is fair. It is leaning on the nostalgia factor a little bit but it works. Really cool they got the cast that they got.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. With so many high expectations being placed on this film, my first thought was that there was no way to avoid any disappointment. Leading up to the date, I constantly had to remind myself that if it didn't live up to my expectations, that didn't make it a bad movie. When talking about expectations, I'm sure many of you can infer that I am talking about the alleged cameos of Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire. Being that the Spider-man trilogy, and 'The Amazing Spider-man' movies are my favorite superhero movies of all time, and are held so close to my heart, I don't think I could've been more excited to see if the old Peter Parkers would come to life on screen once again, presumably for a last time... Thirty minutes into movie, then an hour, and still no Garfield or Maguire. Once again, I reminded myself that there was a large possibility that they wouldn't be in it. And that's what's great about the film. Even though the rumors were loud and hard to avoid, somehow I still didn't expect it.

Seeing Ned open the first portal, though, and a Spider-man at the end of a dark alley took my breath away. As the figure walked closer I turned to the person sitting next to me, making eye contact-- unspoken knowledge of what could be happening. As it step through the portal, the theatre was already getting antsy. And as he took off his mask, revealing it truly was Andrew Garfield, not some decoy, the audience erupted into cheers and applause. This specific moment is one why this movie is so good. It connected the audience in a way that I've never happen in a movie theater-- let alone with a movie-- before.

To be honest, the only critique I have of this film is that it's clear that the idea of bringing back the prior actors who held the title of "Spider-man," and their villains came before the idea of making a third movie to Holland's trilogy. Possibly more avid Marvel or film fans would have an issue with this, but it's one that can be brushed off easily, just by the fact that they were able to execute that intertwining of three different universes so seamlessly. It was seamless, but also intentional. Writers knew what they were doing, building on to the characters by filling in the audience in about what has happened to them since we last so them on screen, and referencing things that we know about them already. One of my favorite details was that when Tom couldn't save MJ from falling, Andrew was at the ready, scooping her up and saving her. You can see in his eyes the way that he wishes he could've done that for Gwen. It felt like he could finally get closure, which was very refreshing. It was also so engaging seeing the way that the three Spider-men explored their counterparts, learning things about each other that made the audience roar with laugher every single time-- it's the most I've laughed in a movie that was not a comedy. This was great because there has always been something about Holland's Spider-man that's felt lacking, at least for me. Because he was apart of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it's like he was less of who Spider-man is supposed to be. With him able to bounce off of the two actors who have defined Peter Parker and Spidey for viewers, it's highlighted the strengths and Spider-man qualities of Holland's version. And in the end, when he makes his own suit, moves into a small apartment away from billionaire mentors, follows up on neighborly spider-man-like crime, and finally lets his loved ones go to keep them safe-- it's like we've come full circle. It's just the perfect way to end a series. I've wracked my brain thinking about any comment I could make to make this movie not a 10, but I honestly can't think of a single one. So glad they didn't disappoint. (P.S. Andrew Garfield definitely deserves some more recognition for all the lying he had to do prior to the release... hilarious.)

That being said, I am not that. I have been a Spider-Man fan my whole life and I’d compare this movie to Avengers Endgame, in the way that it is a event film that is greatly improved by the consumer seeing all the previous films. Where Endgame fails, I would say is not telling the most interesting of stories, but instead relying on it being a lot of fan service, though it is well done. No way home does have its share of fan service but, at its core it tells a classic Spider-Man story. With lots of emotional moments, that are enhanced by the amazing score. Great villains, and real stakes. Often time with the MCU movies they will cut short emotional scenes to tell a joke. That’s not the case here, when the emotional moments take place they let them sit. I would say I this is a must see movie for anyone who cares about the Spider-Man character. I am biased, as I have stated I’ve been watching these movies since I was a kid. So for me this is probably my favorite MCU film. I’m not blind to the problems. The set up for the whole film is quite weak, and the writing in the first half of the movie is not on par with the second. For me and my experience with the film, I can excuse the mistakes, but I’d understand if others can’t. Expand

No doubt I will be seeing this movie again no matter the flaws I found because it's everything I wanted for the third spiderman MCU movie which includes a deeper focus on peter as a person where the character actually changes instead of mentioning that he's changed/developed when he hasn't. BUT go watch it because it is awesome. Expand

Rest assured this was a major step up in quality compared to FFH and Homecoming. This movie was so good, the action is memorable, the story and themes are very well presented. I won’t restrain myself to a genre so It’s a really huge statement form me when I want to say that this movie swept me off my legs. I don’t think I saw a better movie, especially a superhero one for a very long time. I love good cinematography in general. This movie takes the storytelling to a whole new level. I was skeptical towards it, thinking that it will piggyback on the nostalgia but I was wrong, very wrong. This movie manages to give the audience a chance to relieve past and give it a new meaning simultaneously being a completely fresh experience. I am simply in awe. A 72 rating from the critics for a comic book movie is pretty epic. And this deserves it. As an admitted MCU fan, you can take this for what it's worth. It is an S tier MCU movie in every respect. By S tier i mean, it is at least as good as Infinity War, Ragnarok and the Winter Soldier. These, IMO are the very best movies in the MCU and Spiderman No Way Home ABSOLUTELY belongs on that level. I'm a 42 year old man with 4 kids for the love of god and the movie had me tearing up at times. It is absolutely worth the price of admission. Don't read anything more just go see it. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Honestly the whole argument people have against this film that it is way to reliant on fan service is such a bad argument. First off the fan service is done very well as the 3 Spider-Men and the villains each get there moment to shine. Especially Willem Dafoe who has god tier acting. But the themes are very well presented and Tom Holland’s character gets a lot of depth in this movie. Not sure the 1st act of the movie is kinda flawed as it could have been better but it is not terrible. Also the plot is good and I understand as to why Tom Holland’s Spider-Man wants to save the villains. As he just feels guilty and he doesn’t want these villains to be killed and Norman Osborn really did a good job as to why he Parker should have maybe let them free but with consequences. Anyways really great film go check it out if you love Spider-Man. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The hype is worth it, I've been a Marvel fan for years now, and especially spider-man since I was a kid, I was so happy I could have watched it in premiere, so that's my review & critic: You can skip this part to the end: Spoiler Alert: So many easter eggs from many many universes, Let's be clear on something that Tom Holland is the best spider-man ever made, tom = Andrew + Tobey, doctor strange was fantastic and Ned too, I cried so hard when May died, the movie is so sad, No one on earth knows Peter Parker now, not even his friends, and he didn't tell them because they were happy without him, I liked venom but I want it to be in the movie, The end credit scene, Doctor Strange 2, IT'S EPIC! Loved that daredevil was here even if he was for a minute, so much to talk about. Loved when they hugged each other, and "With great power come great responsibilities", when they re-do some scene of old spider-man it was good, It was beautiful to watch but I would like more colors in the fight in the end. Happy doesn't know him anymore, it is the end of the friendship with ned, the atmosphere in the cinema was insane. He needs to tell everyone cause at this point he's literally lost every single person in his life, he helped save half the universe, he was the reason tony wanted to discover time travel and now no one will know. I wonder what he's gonna do with the avengers since they won't know him either. It was a fan service and they nailed it.

To give this movie a bad review is just crazy to me. This is easily my top movie of 2021 and I loved how it ended off 2021 a year once more of covid with an amazing movie that was brilliantly put together. Such an unbelievably good film that lives up to the hype of the biggest MCU films like infinity war and end game. Expand

No Way Home is everything any real fan of Marvel or Spider-Man could ever have hoped for, and a little more. I won't give away any spoilers, but it's a fantastic movie that's made ten times better if you're a long-time fan who's seen theNo Way Home is everything any real fan of Marvel or Spider-Man could ever have hoped for, and a little more. I won't give away any spoilers, but it's a fantastic movie that's made ten times better if you're a long-time fan who's seen the previous iterations in the franchise. It caters to casual fans but multiplies the dramatic (and comedic) payoffs for older fans and is enough to reduce full-grown adults to puddles of teary-eyed, ear-to-ear grinning satisfaction. All performances are top-notch, and Tom Holland delivers his best performance ever, both as Spider-Man and Peter Parker. All the other cast members are equally superb, and it's obvious that they all knew they were taking part in something extraordinary. Their love for the Spidey Mythos shines through every second of their screentime. In spades.

As for the surprises, well, let's just say...the movie does THAT. While you're getting over the fact that it actually did THAT, it then goes along and does THAT as well. While you're recovering from beautiful and understated fan service (there's nothing wrong with fan service when understated and tastefully done and especially when it's done to serve the story, and not at its expense - a lesson that critics should learn when they're not too busy trying to sound above it all), it then goes along and also does THAT, to devastatingly emotional effect. No Way Home is a master class in entertainment, and a masterclass in dramatic storytelling, and nay-sayers like Scott, Cameron, and Scorcese need to wake up and pull their heads out of their collective butts because there's nothing to say you can't be fun, funny, and unyielding in gravitas all within the same movie. If you could distill all your love for Spider-Man into a movie, this would be the result. This is the Peter Parker we've all grown up with, and he's spectacular, and he's still just a young man who's trying his hardest to do the right thing. This is the Spider-Man who never quits. This is the Spider-Man who, despite all odds, could grow into the hero who beat FireLord while the Avengers were gone, and could survive Kraven's Last Hunt. This is the Spider-Man that turns adults to Jello-O while they remember holding a flashlight under the sheets after their parents had sent them to bed on a school night. Incredibly enough for a two and a half hour movie, not a single scene drags. It's tempered to perfection. The action scenes are fast but never confusing, and the dramatic scenes are heavy without feeling slow. It trusts the audience with its dramatic beats and doesn't resort to melodrama.

The only slightly weak point is some undercooked CGI. Then again, Marvel Studios always seems to produce better CGI than the Sony Pictures installments. But that's a minor complaint in a movie that works so hard to be the absolute best it can be.

I've already seen it twice, and it was an even more emotional experience the second time around.

Avoid spoilers! You'll just be ruining a stellar experience for yourself.

Clearly the best superhero movie. Masterpiece. Cannot add or remove something from it.
