Sonic the Hedgehog: OH MY GOD. I have been a fan of Sonic since 2008 since I first played Sonic Adventure 2 on the PS3 I fell in love with this franchise. Now 12 years later the movie comes out and does it break the video game movie curseSonic the Hedgehog: OH MY GOD. I have been a fan of Sonic since 2008 since I first played Sonic Adventure 2 on the PS3 I fell in love with this franchise. Now 12 years later the movie comes out and does it break the video game movie curse YES. First Ben Schwartz as Sonic I’m so used to Roger Craig Smith as the Blue Blur he brings the entertainment that you only see when you feed your child so much sugar that he just runs around that a crazy person. The special effects look great finally the original design of Sonic looked horrible and the director listened to us and redesigned the character and did a great job. James Marston has a thing for CGI animals right because he was in Hop and now this but he did a great job. But of course everyone is saying about Jim Carrey and he was amazing it’s amazing to see him being a funny crazy dude again. Over all Sonic the Hedgehog is the best video game movie I have ever seen and I need a sequel go watch this movie in theaters now.… Expand

Great entertaining family fun. Plenty of fan service for a 37 year old Sonic nerd and my 5 year old loved it as well. I never played Sonic the Hedgehog. I have no nostalgia or affection for this character. Only saw the movie in order to take my child to something on a weekend that was too cold for the playground. It was great! And Jim Carrey was hilarious! AI never played Sonic the Hedgehog. I have no nostalgia or affection for this character. The character of Dr. Robotnik was fantastic - Carrey's best role in a long time. I love how the whole setup for his character was so goofy. The movie does not take itself too seriously, and that works to its advantage. They walked a fine line with that, and they nailed it.

I wouldn't mind a sequel, although I do hope they keep it simple and don't just turn everything to 11 as they tend to do with most effect-movies where the origin story has already been told. Sonic needs the charm. Keep it like that.… Expand

The "official" critics are completely clueless nowadays when it comes to movies like this. They use all sorts of flowery "smart guy" language to explain all of their pompous reasons why this movie apparently is garbage.

If you're a Sonic fan, or just a parent looking to take their kids to a fun movie, go see it. It's funny, heart warming, and is solid in it's execution of a decent and straight forward plot. It takes elements from the games and manages to find fun ways to use them in a movie set in a real world.

Don't listen to the"professional"critics that don't know how to just take a movie for what it is any more and have fun with it. The people involved with this film knocked it out of the park. Go see it.… Expand

I waited all my life as a kid who was a sonic fan for a sonic movie to finally happen. My daughter and I loved it. It was what I was hoping for. Sonic the Hedgehog is one of my favorite movies of 2020. The visual effects were phenomenal especially Sonic and Dr. Robotnik's robots. Far and beyond the best video game movie I've ever seen. This take on a younger Sonic is a breath of fresh air whether you're a steadfast fan or a newcomer. I just saw it, if you ever played the games as a kid its for u.
If your an adult and got kids, its even more for them.
Jim Carrey brought Robotnik to life like no one else could, but at its core its a lil kids film. Which is fine/perfect.

A fun movie that was very enjoyable, I'm very glad the creators listened to the fans about remaking the Sonic character back to his original video game design, it made the movie more enjoyable and nostalgic for the video games

I’ll be honest, with similar movie like Alvin and the chipmunks and the smurfs, I though this movie was going to be awful. However, I am very happy to say that not only did the movie exceed my expectations, but shattered them. Sonic the hedgehog is a very well made film, that while is a little predictable, was still fun for me and should be fun not only for fans of sonic, and little kids, but for the whole family. The Sonic Movie is playful, fun, and great, that doesn't mean there aren't flaws though. The story can be bland at times but it is overall pretty good. The story can be bland at times but it is overall pretty good. Jim Carrey's performance of Dr. Robotnik feels like a mix of classic Jim Carrey and Robotnik's attitude which makes it great and funny. Sonic's cocky personality makes for some great jokes, and makes Sonic feel more alive and like Sonic, couple that with a lot of his jokes being cheesy and it makes him feel truly like 90's Sonic. "Doughnut Lord" and "Pretzel Lady" feel a bit bland and boring that doesn't stop them from having some good moments, but overall "Doughnut Lord" and "Pretzel Lady" lack a bit depth. that is my review without going too in depth of The Sonic Movie coming from someone that's not that big a fan of the Sonic games.… Expand

It was incredible. The only disadvantages, that I found are bad jokes and Sonic's incomprehensible abilities. In one scene, he can stop time, in other scene, he can only slow down it. First I would like to thank you Paramount Pictures. Other studios need to take a page out of your book. Second, opening weekend every showing was so packed i had trouble getting a good seat at any time. So congrats.

Now to the movie itself. The good the bad the ugly. Ill start rather than end with score. 9/10.

Is it perfect no. But for what it is its the best movie I've seen in a long time. The character(s), that is plural btw stay after the credits to see what i mean, look amazing. Although you did make me think of Weresonic a couple times so that's a negative.

I was laughing and having a great time some based on nostalgia some based on enjoying kids movies. Either way I was happy for about the entire runtime. Was there logical inconsistencies sure. Some made sense cuz it was a kids movie other didn't make sense but it was ok because it was forgivable for a kids movie, i.e. inconsistent power functions, lighting changes to match tone but not time.

My final gripe was the one point off. Robitnik is great. Jim Carrey nails the level of eccentricity. Its a different brand but similar level so good on you. The problem is the San Fran scene. Its not shown but any adult would notice that casual murder is implied. Robitnik lack of care for other humans and the event on screen means people are dying and he has not remorse for it. I am not a parent but i believe that may just be a tad too far for a kids movie and is the only reason i did not give this a 10/10. All having been said, I loved it and you have me ready for a sequel… Expand

Idk why scott tafoya rate 0.. maybe his 1st time watch this movie.. by far the best movie this year.. very enjoyable... We see how Dr. Robotic become Dr.Eggman when he stuck at mushroom world...

In short, this was a fun family movie for all ages both young and old (if you grew up with the games) with a lot of references that fans of the franchise will surely notice. Reason why I'm not giving a perfect 10 is because like most movies, Sonic the Hedgehog isn't without flaws. Biggest problem is that the movie was too short. There were some flaws within the plot as well that didn't make sense and maybe could've been explained better if the run-time were extended. Still, I'd recommend giving this movie a go. Just don't take it seriously.

Fortunately, this movie in my opinion does more things right than it does wrong. For starters, Ben Schwartz does probably the best Sonic voice since Ryan Drummond and Jason Griffith. To me, he does a fantastic job at doing an energetic and young Sonic that someone like Roger Craig Smith otherwise still doesn't nail quite as well as past actors. And Jim Carrey? Well here he does a great job at being Robotnik and just overall being the Jim Carrey we all recognize and enjoy from the 90's.

Putting actors aside, some other things I enjoyed are the many references throughout the movie. So many in fact that I couldn't catch them all during my first viewing. Definitely going to watch this again once it comes out on Blu-Ray and see what I missed. The humor was pretty good and got both myself and the audience laughing many times. Some action scenes were pretty cool to see as well, including the full pickup chase scene that probably most of us have only seen partially in the many trailers released.… Expand

The addition of Tails and the way Robotnik gets mad totally makes you relive the old games, it may be difficult for someone that hasn't ever played a sonicgame to understand that details but is still good.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. i just watched the sonic movie. it was well worth the wait! the great mixture of comedy action and emotional scenes made for an experience that i was totally not expecting. needless to say this is a great family movie and i thank jeff fowler for listening to us fans. loved the easter eggs and hints to some of the lore of the actual video game. some scenes were slow and a bit cringey but all in all the movie was a fantastic adaptation and i will be getting it on dvd and seeing the sequel!… Expand
