I knew exactly what to expect when going into this movie and it didn't disappoint. It's a fun ride full of entertaining moments as well as some easter eggs for the true Sonic fans. This movie is absolutely wonderful. The movie had me smiling and laughing throughout the entirety of it. Sonic is wonderful in that he is very charming in this film. Great movie. Took my two nephews (10 and 6) and it was a great experience. So glad they did the redesign. Script was well written and Jim Carrey channelled his inner Ace Ventura which is a great nostalgia trip for those of us who grew up withGreat movie. My Family and I love this movie. We are so thankful for the redesign and how it allowed us to feel immersed with Sonic. I thought the movie was fantastic. I really wasn't sure what to expect after the whole redesign debacle, but they really nailed the look and feel for Sonic. My only criticism was they gave Sonic a little too much speed. He is basically the Flash (which is funny cuz there's a reference to the Flash), but it made for some entertaining scenes. If you're a fan of the games you def owe it to yourself to check it out.

If You are a Sonic fan, you will definetely love this movie.
Sonic is just himself and looks amazing after the redesign.
Also, Jim Carrey fits perfectly in his role.

I can't believe I saw this movie. I always wanted a Sonic the Hedgehog movie since I was a kid and now it finally came true. I absolutely love it! By no means is it a benchmark in any regard aside from the realms of its own, still woeful, little sub-genre (that of the "video game adaptation" one) "Sonic The Hedgehog" is also nowhere near the atrocity we all feared it would be after thatBy no means is it a benchmark in any regard aside from the realms of its own, still woeful, little sub-genre (that of the "video game adaptation" one) "Sonic The Hedgehog" is also nowhere near the atrocity we all feared it would be after that fateful trailer dropped back in Spring of 2019. In fact, I feel quite comfortable in saying that 8-10 year old me would have really treasured this movie. It's bright, well-paced and effervescent in spirit. You get to see Jim Carrey try his damnedest to conjure up the 90's version of himself that we all fell in love with. There's some humor that works. All of the aforementioned attributes are eons further than what I expected we'd get, and I suppose that's worthy of note. That being said, though, it's far from a perfect product. In fact, the mere presence of that word -- "product" -- in this review is a bit of a Freudian slip, I'm afraid. I understand it's hard to hide the inherent bankability of a movie when it's about one of the most iconic video game characters of all time, but I could have done without the three or four scenes of brand placement strewn about the picture. Also, you'll notice above that I said, "there's some humor that works," with the keyword in that sentence being "some." A lot of the jokes will go over well with kids (see the "floss," farts, etc.) but I'm betting most adults will grow tired of that and the material that's supposed to be geared more towards them, namely the pop culture references. Again, it's imperfect, but I'm a bit surprised at how watchable, nay, enjoyable a lot of it ended up being.… Expand

I never cared about Sonic, never even played any of its games, and yes I knew about it.
But the movie and characters were so good I wanna watch it again, and I’m actually looking forward to the sequels!

What I liked about it was the relationship with James Marsden’s cop counterpart. They had chemistry. And I actually liked Sonic, also he had a very satisfying arc. A lonely and traumatized being that gets a loving family at the end. Archetypal, sure, but well told.
Even compared to other kids movies this is definitely one of the better ones.
Also I think the need of connection theme of the movie reached a personal level to me and many others. Even surrounded by people, we sometimes feel lonely. A deeper connection is needed. Best friends.
Forget "you HAVE to see this movie if you liked XYZ", it's a good movie. See it. Have a good time! It's worth it.… Expand

-Good interpretations
-Exceptional work by Jim Carrey in the interpretation of Dr. Robotinik
-Good Sonic adaptation and modeling (after the first version of course)
-Well-developed characters

10/10 purely because the movie knew what it was supposed to be and stayed true to Sonic. I never once felt the need to check my watch during the film. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have been a huge fan of Sonic ever since I was 5. Everyone in my class used to say their favourite superhero to be Spider-Man, Batman, Superman etc, but when I'd say I like Sonic, everyone made fun of me. Not just because Sonic is supposed to be "childish" as they called it (because ignorance is bliss; they'd even think Conker's Bad Fur Day is childish because it has animals as main characters). And I swore that one day when Sonic gets a movie and all normies start looking up to him then I will mock them.

When the first trailer of this movie was shown I almost had a mini heart attack. This was not just an atrocious design, it was a nightmare! Thanks to the petitions and Paramount listening to the fans, they finally redesigned Sonic. And then when I finally watched the movie, it felt so satisfying. I had never watched superhero cartoons or read the comics, so I suppose this is the same joy Marvel fans get when they see MCU movies. Today was my turn to take the joy.

I really like how they chose to focus more on character development than the story, which is absolutely necessary because they are setting it up for a franchise. They should not rush anything. In the first movie Sonic and Donut Lord have established their friendship and in the post credit we see Tails come to Green Hill looking for Sonic. Also Eggman gets trapped on Mushroom planet in the end which is where Sonic 3 & Knuckles takes place, so it's clear that Knuckles will also appear in the post credit scene of the second movie.

Sonic fans are known to be toxic. And I was also one of them as a kid. So for us fans, this movie is like a dream come true. People here are criticising how slow and cliché the plot was, and even I really hope they come up with something original and more fun in the sequel.… Expand

They objected to three things in this film and said that it would be better if they were not: Sonic should have been a killing character - they changed Sonic's story and my vision changed to Sonic's character - aimless. It was unique in the live genre and it is not like movies like Ted, The Lion King, etc. Sonic's film has given a beautiful story to Sonic's character.
