Miller was 40 I think when he made the brilliant road warrior and he's was near 70 when he made this effort and it shows where movies are going unfortunately ie confused and over the top and it's a shame Miller in his dotage sort of pissed on his classic the road warrior with this non story stunt extravaganza.
Do know what Mad Max had Charlie past it Theron in it either for? Didn't do the film any favours and you wondered who was supposed to be the main character. I think Miller should have retired along time ago as the Mad Max name was obviously just put in there to cash in.

Acting was absent, and I really like those actors. I only felt apathy for any, and I do mean any, of the characters. The scenes people are saying were so intense never once got my heart pumping BECAUSE I DIDN'T CARE FOR THE CHARACTERS. Oh, and those intense scenes left me saying to myself, why would they do that?? That was just an excuse to run one car into the other, an excuse to blow something up, an excuse to...I was constantly being reminded that I was not "in" the movie. The original Mad Max made you feel that you were in a post-apocalyptic landscape. Fuel was a rare resource, One wouldn't drive down the road spraying a flame thrower at nothing just to see it light up. They did in this flick because it was about impressing the kiddies and less about making the post-apoc landscape believable. The vehicles in this movie weren't impressive, they were just...silly.

Sorry, I can't subscribe to the notion that this movie worth the price of admission. My popcorn was the best part of this movie. /sad

If you want a great Tom Hardy movie, do yourself a favor and check out Lawless. He was fantastic in that one. I highly recommend it. In Mad Max Fury Road Tom Hardy could have been a regular street person randomly chosen from the crowd to act out this part. The fact that the main character was Tom Hardy was completely lost and wasted.

Some guy next to us snickered as the credits rolled, and made a snide remark in order to impress his date. I hope that he is ultimately forgiven, because this movie is just incredible. No spoilers in this review. Movie was great. Visual effects are awesome and the plethora of crazy cars were all uniquely bad ass. Only flaw was plot is thin. Not much to the story at all but if you love total nonstop action that wont matter.

First, it’s a dystopian world, squalor, misery, disease and oppression, I get it. However, these (and I use the word loosely) people, were so grotesque, so monstrous, so gruesome, so aberrant, they presented a world that I could not even root for the protagonists to survive in. It was such a world of dread and vulgar mutants my depression overwhelmed my ability to separate it out and simply enjoy the visuals. Speaking of visuals, there were stunts like we’ve never seen before. However, to achieve this never seen before quality, the stunts were totally preposterous. Every law of physics, gravity, logic, cause and effect, were breathtakingly violated. In this world seemingly comprised of only rabid dogs shaped into human form, who the hell refined the infinite amount of gasoline they used? Who were the mechanics and auto body experts that built and maintained all of the crap they used??? What did the multitude of thousands of depraved thirst starved inhabitants do when they were not all gathered at the rock tower of water dispensation? Farmers? Factory workers? Business owners? This world assaulted my logic to the degree that it pulled me out of the mindset the storyteller wanted me to lose myself in. Overall? Simply depressing. Expand

But if you want a movie with a good story and more developed characters? You wont find it here.

This is not a bad film, I just wish it was a little slower, a little longer, more depth.

But if you're looking for a two hour chase scene? This is a masterpiece of a movie!

Cant wait to see this movie on 4k blu ray!!!!!

I expected a train wreck, didn't get one - Mad Max: Fury Road does the hi-octane stuff right, not dwelling on individual scenes a la "explosion porn" like Michael Bay does in his abortion of a franchise that is Transformers. Every shot here has a purpose, yet you see entire set pieces for just two seconds before the film moves on - and that's a good thing. The focus here is on art direction first and foremost, not "things that go boom".

Yet the movie does have faults. For one, the fast pace comes at the expense of character development - Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron do a good job of holding it together, but you don't feel invested in the characters as such; so much so that the lasting impression is of fine acting stretched thin. As said, the movies strengths overshadow this weakness - fantastic camera work, art direction, action and set pieces.

As a Spring/Summer blockbuster, it does its' job - it's a movie where you sit in front of it, it entertains from start to finish, and you go home happy. As long as you aren't expecting true depth and you're happy with (admittedly well done) CGI, you'll like this.

As of today “Mad Max: Fury Road” holds the title for ‘the loudest movie of 2015’ though from what I saw of summer previews it may not hold it for too long!

It has been 30 years since the original Mad Max trilogy and memory may be wrong but I remember a deeper and more involving story along with a young Mel Gibson showing more emotion than the current Max played by Tom Hardy. I have heard and read a lot about Mr. Hardy in the past couple of years but I think I have only seen him in two movies those being “Inception” and “Dark Knight Rises” but I have no recollection of him in either. The camera gives him a lot of close ups in this film so I am sure I will recognize him in future films.

Getting an equal amount of face time, if not a little more, and the only reason I went to see this film is Charlize Theron, who plays Imperator Furiosa, looks great even with a dirty face, raccoon eye makeup, short cropped black hair and a mechanical left hand and is the equal, if not better, than any man hero! Her eyes are a movie, without CGI effects, on their own.

The first five minutes of “Mad Max: Fury Road” are quiet and then the incessant loud music, the races, car chases, one action scene after another begin to wear the audience down. Within a 2 hour movie there might be 15 minutes total without mayhem in every form possible. It reached a point that I was wondering how many scenes were done in front of a green screen, how many were fake, how many were performed by stunt people all the while that long music ruled by drums fills the auditorium. There is one remarkable scene of just Hardy raising up from the desert sand that made me think “WOW”!

With a huge cast the standouts are Theron, Nathan Jones, Nicholas Hoult, the 5 wives, especially Riley Keough and trust me, you won’t want to meet any of the female sexagenarians in a dark alley or the desert!

The direction by George Miller offers every action fans dreams while the screenplay by Miller, Brendan McCarthy and Nico Lathouris is simple. It is said Miller already has the next Mad Max film prepped named Furiosa and, if true, I hope it brings back Theron.

After “The Avengers” last week and this week “mad Max” I can honestly say I have had my fill of ‘summer blockbusters.’

Is it an LA freeway or an apocalyptic nightmare or just miles and miles of high octane road rage?
Doesn’t matter? “Fury” should be seen and not heard with spectacular action sequences and psychedelic landscapes reminiscent of Ben-Hur and Lawrence of Arabia. A polygamous water czar is hellbent on capturing a renegade warrior who goes off the beaten path with his precious cargo- and well, Mad Max goes along for the ride. Yet thirty minutes into this film - we’re riding on empty for any movie goer driven by plot, character and dialogue . Miller’s reboot revs its' engines but ends up going in circles.

we have suffered from the regular action movies through the last few years. but this one finally comes with something that is really fresh & epic.
Very fine acting, Tom hardy once again proves that he is one of the best actors of his generation and really did a badass & tough Max, Charlize Theron shined with Furiosa and put her soul to appreciate this heroine, remember this little kid from the movie " about a boy " who called Nicholas Hoult ! in Fury Road you will see him as you never seen him before when you watch his very insane portrayal of Nux. and that Toecutter who called Hugh Keays-Byrne surely will give you a boner with Immortan Joe because his performance was very terrifying but in a good way.
This movie owes a lot to his bloody incredible stunts, if the academy award made a new category for stunts even for once ! this movie should win it.
the soundtrack & the visuals are awesome and fit the crazy world of the wasteland.
a highly recommended for everyone, especially the fans of the original Mad Max trilogy. I guarantee you won't waste your time
Believe the hype, this movie is not only the best one of this summer. honestly this the best action movie of the decade and establish his position as one of the best action movies ever made. putting his name alongside huge flicks like Terminator 2 & The Matrix.
I don't always go a geek, but when I do ! I do it for one like this.

Mad Max Fury Road is a triumph in every way. It delivers pulse pounding action, stays true to the Max that Miller has established, and makes for the perfect summer movie.

In the little downtime that we have to establish the universe we get a world drought into anarchy. The barren wasteland presented before us is a desert world with water being a crown jewel, food and supplies being the silver to water’s gold. Immortan Joe is the ruler of this wasteland and has a mass cult of followers that fill this twisted world and Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron) defies the Joe which spirals in a massive pursuit. It’s a simple plot but one that gets fleshed out during the course of the movie and one that’s thoroughly interesting.

This movie is essentially a giant chase scene and while that may seem like it can drag on, it never does. Fury Road provides some of the most varied and intense action scenes that’s been presented on film in the most recent years. This wasn’t completely evident to me until the first fist fight. Visceral and engaging, you’re not quite sure where it goes, but damn does it have your attention. The same sentiment follows the entire film. Not knowing the predictability of the nature of these characters and what happens to them deviates from keeping the main characters safe, as they never are.

Tom Hardy is about the best Mad Max we could get. He nails the mannerisms, speech, grunts, he solidifies himself in the role and Charlize Theron is there to make for a capable female role. She has her agenda and a purpose, while Max is Max, just the way he’s supposed to be. How these two and some of the other supporting roles interact, dissuade, and empower one another makes for great chemistry and dynamic among-st the actors.

The landscape may be wide and morose but that doesn’t mean it lacks variety. The ensemble of oranges that paint the land and sky are nothing short of breathtaking, when night falls, a very chill and ominous navy blue sets the tone. Color is vivid and muddy.

Fury Road gives us the perfect pacing for a movie. While it may all be one huge chase, it’s dominated by action sequences between cars that only get better as the film progresses. The atmosphere and characters round out the remainder of the film, each character has a purpose to fulfill (one particular player aside) and there’s a reason for everything. Every small detail gives us meaning, there are some creatures spread out in the landscape that I still have my head wrapped around. The story is easy to follow, rewarding, and satisfying, something not even The Avengers could pull off, yet Mad Max does it.

If you are a fan of the original movies then you’ll know what you’re going into. Fury Road is easily accessible to newcomers that have their heads scratching at the trailer. I can make a pretty strong promise that both groups will be appeased by the end of the film. It’s a bombastic movie that doesn’t slow down and has the ideal run time. Nothing felt out of place, forced, or like it needed more context.

Mad Max Fury Road is something I can’t correctly capture on paper. It’s one of the few film events that needs to be experienced in a theater. From start to finish I had a damn good time, rooting for the characters, engaged in the plethora of action sequences, invested in the plot when there was dialogue, and the soundtrack just adds a badass and foreboding vibe to accompany the movie. It is the best movie of the summer, I know I may be wrong in the future but I highly doubt it, however I will keep an open mind. Mad Max is one of the rare occasions where you want more, I vie for this movie to succeed so that we can get another because this was the most enjoyable affair I’ve had in quite a long time.

That's fine but don't hate because you simply don't understand it. The style is unique, the characters are even more unique, and the setting are down right unique. A place of only sand, water, sky, and some dirt; coins be this interesting is beyond me. Also above my pay grade which is nothing.
The movie is supposed to be set during the first and second one. Though it's crazier than any Mad Max before. This is the movie that Miller would have made first if he had the same visual effects back then. It's like a acid trip gone right. Car chases, hi octane cars, and a visual effects so that has been lost over the ages.
Practical effects over visual effects make MM the best movie of the year. The story keeps you engaged. If you loved the road warrior, then you'll love this too. The road warrior is slightly better because of it being a timeless classic but this does it justice. A movie that will have you on the edge of your sit but you will be wanting to let go and join the ride.
Again this movie isn't for people without the ability to comprehend it or those who simply don't understand. Though don't go watch it. For those fans of the original and of people who just love quality movies. Go watch it. Overall it's an awesome chapter into the amazing world of MM and will satisfy those who can appreciate an old movie in a new movie era. 9.5/10

In essence Mad Max Fury Road is a great time at the theaters, one that I suggest you see in theaters, because it's such a great experience. Expand

Perfectly-edited chase and fight scenes. Extraordinary action. Very brutal in places, but the strong female characters help to add some balance. Charlize Theron is the real star of this film and still stunningly beautiful despite the one arm! Expand

After all, the action scenes are riveting, and far beyond what the earlier Mad Max films might have accomplished with the budget and technology they had. It feels like an '80's movie in that it just doesn't give a ****, like it wasn't constructed by studio execs to play to the lowest common denominator. Instead, it's pure artistic vision.

The only aspect of the film I wasn't high on is casting. Tom Hardy is a good actor who seems perpetually miscast; Max is a better role for him than Bane or Young Picard was, but you'll spend most of the movie waiting for him to unmuzzle himself (literally and figuratively). However, I didn't think the Charlize Theron character or her distracting missing arm made the right sort of impact; I just came away wanting to see Max's next caper. Or, for that matter, more of the thrilling car action and weird touches like the flamethrowing guitarist and his war drum backup.

I will say that even though the action is phenomenal, I saw it in 3D, and that was pretty pointless. I wouldn't bother with the extra money and the glasses, just see it normal.

Some have called this film "feminist". It is concerning that Eve Ensler would be involved in anything, and if you want to, you certainly can read some hatred into the film. But really, don't all Hollywood films (and other entertainment media) treat men as the bad guys who are all maniacal, sexually aggressive and immoral and women as the innocent victims who can do no wrong, don't they all show men being brutalized en masse and then talk about how tough it is to be female? It's just par for the course. Don't worry, reality is still real, and the real world is decidedly egalitarian. This movie is a dystopian fantasy, not social commentary. Read as such, it's a fun ride.

A 2 hour epic of non-stop, blood pumping, action. George Miller has taken everything inspired that came after the original trilogy (such as the borderlands games) and took it under is wing while waving a flag saying "THIS IS HOW YOU DO IT". The art direction, sound design, pacing and casting was perfect. The story takes a slight backseat but fills in everything it needs to - dealing with all the themes it wants to while letting the action take a front seat.

A MUST SEE on the big screen. You may never see something quite as good as this again!

One of my favorite games is motorstorm which involves various offroad vehicles racing through the Utah desert, there is a lot of this in mad max and a lot of popular culture has taken inspiration from the previous films. I however never saw these and feel they may of not aged well but this film has me wanting MORE! I cannot wait for the video game to come out later this year. That will certainly give me more of the max mad I'm lusting for! I highly recommend this film! Go watch it now! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Flesh and metal collide in the part sequel, part reboot, post apocalyptic, no holds barred Mad Max: Fury Road. 70 year old director George Miller returns to the franchise he created, 30 years after the last outing. This time with Tom Hardy as Max Rockatansky and Charlize Theron as Imperator Furiosa, two rebels trying to survive in a desert landscape of lost humanity.

The plot is fairly simple, Furiosa abandons her duties and sets out to find her homeland, and take Immortal Joe’s young brides with her. Joe of course sets out to stop her and Max is caught up in this battle. Charlize Theron is fantastic as Furiosa, with her artificial limb and war paint, determined to find her home and reunite with what’s left of her family. Tom Hardy as Max is a man of few words, troubled by visions of past horrors. Both need to work together as they guide the fragile and beautiful brides of Joe to safety. The film has a core theme of feminist solidarity that balances well against the testosterone of Max, Immortal Joe and his War Boys. The performances from the two leads and their mutual respect is told mainly through actions rather than dialogue, exposition takes a back seat here.

Unlike previous films in the series, the budget this time around of $150 million finally matches the ambitions and imagination of the director. The sheer originality on display is impressive. Stunning photography, high contrast, warm colour palette and smooth camera work draw you into the wild west wasteland. The jaw dropping carnage of the action scenes are indescribable, Fast & Furious is a walk in the park compared to this. You must see it to believe it, but even then you still ask yourself, “Is this actually happening?” It has the right mix of CGI and real stunts that will make you think back to classics like James Cameron’s Terminator 2. And it all looks awesome in 3D IMAX. The score by Tom Holkenborg (aka Junkie XL) is loud, heart pounding, epic and in sync with the bizarre but soon to be iconic flamethrower guitarist and tribal drummers who get their fair share of screen time.

Are there any negatives to the film? Only a few. Immortal Joe was fine as the main villain but The Bullet Farmer and The People Eater lacked depth, i wanted more time with them to understand their reasons for actually being part of the chase. Joe’s brides (which included Zoe Kravitz and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley) weren't the best performers and were quite bad at times.

So despite all that, i highly recommend this film if for some strange reason you’ve been sitting on the fence. It’s feral, dark, gritty, anarchic, surreal, just pure mayhem. Mad Max: Fury Road isn’t just any action film, it’s one that sits side by side with your favourite Hollywood blockbusters, a new classic that demands repeat viewings for it’s visual triumphs and sonic assaults. Now if you excuse me, i’m off to watch it again!

I often rate movies 10 because they're really good, this is getting a 10 because it is AMAZING. I'd say its the best, most epic, car chase in the history of cinema.

It has an interesting, unique, plot but the plot is really just there to drive the action and WOW what an action movie it is. Its one of the best I've ever seen, from start

to end the pacing is spot on, it builds and builds to an epic climax, then gives you a minute to get your breath back and then off it goes again. Tom Hardy suits the

character of Max brilliantly, he doesn't have a lot to say, but its not really that kind of movie with long exposition and dialogue, for the first part of the movie he has

a clamp around his face so his mannerisms and actions say more than his words. Charlize Theron plays a really strong character as Furiosa and pulls it off perfectly, the

two characters work really well together and some of the other characters are surprisingly good.

It looks like a Max Max film should, the sets, costumes, special effects and stunts fit the Mad Max world perfectly and it all fits together to make it an absolute blast to

watch. Dont miss this! I'll be going back to watch it a second time in a 4DX theater.

Oh, man. I don't have words for this film yet. Maybe there are no words, since what George Miller and his team put onscreen defies description and transcends language. But here's my attempt.

With technical precision that seems effortless but must surely have taken a small army to manage, Miller weaves his unique, fantastic vision of post-apocalyptic chaos and carnage into a work of piston-pumping poetry, all set to Junkie XL's adrenaline-fueled soundtrack. Without hyperbole, I can say right now that this one of the all-time great action movies. It makes Furious 7 look like a badly edited Mario Kart replay.

I'm not gonna lie, there was a moment of vehicular mayhem where I shed a manly tear. T'was one of hope, for my heart had almost forgotten what heights pure cinema was capable of. It's got a minimum of CGI, fantastic stunt work, great set design and art direction, breathtaking locations, and strong performances, even from the supporting cast. This is the movie I've been waiting for my whole life, ever since I smashed little Matchbox vehicles against one another as a child and made comics about sentient cars.

There's no prior franchise experience necessary. If you're a connoisseur of action films, you miiiight want to try being in the best theater you can find this weekend. I just can't wait to see it again and am gonna do so as soon as possible.

As far as performances, Tom Hardy makes a fine Max, Charlize Theron's Furiosa is up there with Ripley as one of the most badass women in sci-fi, and Nicholas Hoult's Nux is very entertaining. The dude who plays Immortan Joe (he was in the first Mad Max, too) is just perfect, the kind of larger-than-life big boss whom you can imagine inspiring lifelong devotion. Whether or not the story boasts a "feminist agenda" in having a number of strong female characters is up to the eye of the beholder, but it didn't bother this cis, straight man. If you want my real opinion, I think the gender-war-fueled backlash is all hyperbole designed to sell more tickets, and anyone offended enough to not want to see THE FIRST MAD MAX FILM IN 30 YEARS probably needs to have their man card snapped in half.

I really want to congratulate everyone involved in the production of this film. I don't even mind if this ends up being the last great action film, but wouldn't it be grand if this was really just the start of a new breed of action films? I'm really, really hoping that Miller gets a chance to make the sequels that he already has scripts and storyboards for. Tom Hardy is apparently signed on for another three films. I say BRING 'EM ON! Valhalla awaits!!

The movie is an absolute must-see - let's get that out of the way from the top. For me, it's probably the best, most artistic action film since the original Matrix. Furiosa (Charlize Theron) is clearly the best heroine since Ripley in the Alien films. Going in, I figured the action would be fatiguing, and the desert backdrop would get samey after a while, but I couldn't have been more wrong on both counts. Miller's inventiveness knows know bounds. If I had to point to a slightly weak link in the chain, it would be the Immortan Joe character. No doubt, he's fun to look at and provides some of the comedy, but as a character, he is not nearly as personally threatening as the chief baddies in the original Mad Max and Road Warrior flicks. But the supreme creativity and the acrobatics in the driving sequences are so over-the-top phenomenal, you'll be conscious of the silly grin on your face when things finally let up and you allow yourself to exhale.
