This movie is the poster child for style over substance. The costumes, sets, and character designs are gorgeous. The humor and spectacle of the film really stand out.

Unfortunately, all of this style never amounts to anything more than a car chase. The characters look great, but we don't know much about them besides where they live and how they dress. Furiosa and Max are like blanks where I suppose the viewer is supposed to fill themselves in. You're meant to want to BE Furiosa or Max, not KNOW the characters.

Underneath all of this caked on superficiality, there's a vague anti-authoritarian message that's drowned out by guitar-flamethrowers and revving engines. I was really interested to learn more about that and to see Max, Furiosa, and Nux do something besides fight, drive, and shoot.

Fantastic movie according to most people, kind of crappy not function mess according to others.

Why the artistic spin in the middle of the movie? We switch rock music, explosions and car races for symphonic music, monochromatic shots and "deep" life messages? That part broke the movie for me.
Then we continue with more explosions and races, but now with circus performance like stunts? Where that come from and why it is in mad max?
Why is there this feminist narrative : evil old diseased white guys destroyed the world and with army of violent fanatic white guys enslaved people. luckily are brought down by few of virtuous women.
so deep message, so progressive, so original...
Lets not skip plot holes and realism, it was supposed to be action movie.

But seriously, what the duck?

First, it’s a dystopian world, squalor, misery, disease and oppression, I get it. However, these (and I use the word loosely) people, were so grotesque, so monstrous, so gruesome, so aberrant, they presented a world that I could not even root for the protagonists to survive in. It was such a world of dread and vulgar mutants my depression overwhelmed my ability to separate it out and simply enjoy the visuals. Speaking of visuals, there were stunts like we’ve never seen before. However, to achieve this never seen before quality, the stunts were totally preposterous. Every law of physics, gravity, logic, cause and effect, were breathtakingly violated. In this world seemingly comprised of only rabid dogs shaped into human form, who the hell refined the infinite amount of gasoline they used? Who were the mechanics and auto body experts that built and maintained all of the crap they used??? What did the multitude of thousands of depraved thirst starved inhabitants do when they were not all gathered at the rock tower of water dispensation? Farmers? Factory workers? Business owners? This world assaulted my logic to the degree that it pulled me out of the mindset the storyteller wanted me to lose myself in. Overall? Simply depressing. Expand

Two hours of chasing in the desert, the movie is basically a really long chase sequence. Dialogs are ridiculous, Max probably talks like 4 times in the whole movie, and he mainly grunts for the most part. The vehicles and characters are cool, but a lot of things make no sense, like the dude with the flaming guitar, wtf?! Beside, the movie is called Mad Max, but really the main hero is Furiosa, Max is just a secondary puppet that helps her, because she's hot and she travels with a bunch of supermodels. Ok, visually was good, but the movie has the overall depth of a tampons commercial... Also, for the first time, it was OBVIOUS that the actors re-dubbed themselves.

The special effects and action was great and who doesn't love a post apocalypse setting? But this movie suffers from very boring characters who were both uninteresting and poorly developed. I never cared for the Max himself, in fact, I rank the old movies as average or below, but the other characters were very 1 dimensional and I just didnt care what happens one way or another. The movie reminded me of Transformers, lots of pointless action and no heart (just replace cgi with live action). Overall, I would never watch this movie again so its slightly below average to me (remember, 5 is mathematically average on Metacritic). Expand

Predictable and mindless entertainment for the masses. If this film shows one thing, it''s that you no longer need an engaging plot (or any kind of plot for that matter) to be critically acclaimed.

Will those reviewers still think Fury road is any good by next week when they've forgotten this movie and woken up to reality?

What a disappointment!! George Miller how could you have come up with a movie this bad? Ok Max got away with just 17 lines in MM2 but the movie had earth and substance! Tom Hardy reduces Max to a boring mute idiot, sidelined by Charlize Theron who usually does ok in movies. Not this one unfortunately. The bad guys in MM1 and MM2 were real characters and real people. Everyone in the film had a purpose, a reason to be. No one in this film is connected to any part of anything. Its a totally disconnected silly stage act that insults the viewer on a number of levels .
As for the vehicles- ok its better than nothing ( thunderdome) but they are foolish, unreal, disneyesque, and absurd - almost like trying to impress an adult with a transformer toy. They wouldn't last a day in a real apocalyptic landscape, prompting too many questions like why and how?
The plot -They go somewhere and turn around and go back again. Driving miss daisy with a bit more horsepower, but less storyline. And a few cirque de soleil clowns thrown in who do some zany acrobatics."oooh I heard the stunts were real and not cgi"
What character development ? Zilch! why were the baddies so bad? I don't know or really care. They certainly aren't real or menacing like the humungous. They don't create an iota of tension or a modicum of memorability
This movie is the diametric opposite to its relatively austere Aussie dirt outback heritage, which is replaced by fake yellow fantasy sandstorms direct from the mummy returns - Why were they driving in there again? Don't ask yourself these questions as there are no reasons for anything in Fury Road.

The feminism is a contrived twist that does nothing to improve the film, as no characters are developed male or female.

If you can ignore the lack of acting, plot or story, what is left is 2 hours of whacky silly nonsense and pointless races/pyro/ explosions. . Unlike the previous films fury road is a hollow movie that betrays its genuine fan base and treats the rest of the audience like a bunch of morons with A.D.D. Sadly its been such a long time coming but consigned as an opportunity lost.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Admittedly late to the game here, but I honestly can't see where all these 10s and 100s come from. At 70, I guess George had one more Mad Max episode left in home, but this was nothing more than a an utterly incomprehensible wild romp. Fury Road is nothing more than a video game brought to the screen with its threadbare plot, not to mention clothing on our five fetching damsels in distress, on which the plot loosely hinges like their chastity belts. What little story there is might be seen as poetic in a post-apocalyptic sort of way. I have to hand it to Charlize Theron for trying to rise above the horribly malevolent nature of this film and give us some sense of hope in the arid violent future George Miller imagines. However, even she couldn't save this film from itself. There were some moments of dark humor, such as the aging biker chic gang, the last to hold onto the seeds of a Utopian dreamworld. The only suspense was whether this green world still existed, but apparently the only thing left was one desolate tree that didn't look strong enough to pull a dune buggy much less a war rig out of the quagmire. I guess it had very deep roots. It's just an inglorious ride through the Australian outback with some wild-eyed visual effects along the way, as if George has been dabbling in magic mushrooms. It's fun to a point, but the sad part is you really don't care what happens to anyone in this movie. Expand

Of course if you don't mind the mediocre writing you will fully enjoy this movie, otherwise it's just a 2 hour driving destruction porn but truly masterfully made from the original creator of the series. :) Expand

The scenario is set mysteriously with the protagonist hunted by his past, making the movie very promising, when he arrives to the city it’s presented the context of this post-apocalyptic world ruled by a tyrant; however when they get to the road the whole thing falls apart. The plot is meaningless, simple and at one point becomes incoherent; the worst thing is that George Miller tries to hide it with an opulent artillery of explosions. It’s true that action cinema is all about that, but what makes an action movie stand out from the rest is the thing that sustains the significance of the explosions and fights. Mad Max is indisputably a technical achievement, highlighting the make-up; this and Charlize Theron are definitely the only good items in the feature. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A late review now that all the ludicrous praise has subsided. As a preliminary, I watched all the previous Mad Max movies again. At one point in my youth, I thought The Road Warrior was one of the best films ever but wow; these movies did not age well at all. Fury Road is in general an improvement, but when you get down to it, the cars do most of the acting. The music is a massive improvement over Brian May's and Maurice Jarre's crimes against musical humanity, but Tom Hardy has about as much charisma as a turnip. As a straight-up action film, it's watchable and holds interest, and is certainly better than the anschluss of super-hero movies currently stinking up the marquees with no sign of relief. The amount of high praise heaped on this movie however is baffling.

Just as aside, there have been some complaints that Fury Road caters to Political Correctness with its emphasis on the ass-kicking chick and the oppression of the "breeders" by men. I'm as down on SocJus gibberish as any sensible person is, but in this flick it is not really noticeable. At a critical point, Max persuades the group to turn back and fight. Letting the white, heterosexual male make such a plot-turning suggestion is a big no-no among the perpetually aggrieved so if you want I-am-woman-hear-me-roar stuff, try the Alien series.

cinematography is wonderful, and movie's editing is good too. very shocking!
but there isn't any story and the symbols are full of slogan that they don't useful for the considering of Mad Max. so if we change cinematographer and editor, this movie is going to touch a big downfall because Mad Max doesn't have a perfect form, it's trapped into the technical items and glorious framing. the characters have good shapes but miller can't polish their Inner personality. so we can see a lot of shocking scenes full of imperial framings but there isn't any story so screenplay falling down from a large position of technique without any notion and without ant dram. overall we shocked but for second!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Me and the girlfriend went to see this movie the beginning was fast paced and was showing us the new world. Later on you are introduced to the villains but not introduced to anything overly about them you know the immortal but you don't know anything else about him. The movie lacked any background and after the film I thought I may have missed something in the other movies so after re watching them to find out none of it ties into this sequel and was still left with unanswered question and the obvious "why didn't they just kill the bad guy at the start" once the villain dies it as if all his followers allow the city to be taken over by the villagers. The motive of why they are trying to escape the villain is only stated as him mistreating them and he desires them for healthy children. The part when you find out there is no green land and she falls to her knees and cries has no impact as you don't get any sense of past with the character you get no information of her homeland and why it was so important to bring them there. Not to mention Tom Hardy spends the first part of the film looking like Bane and sounding like a illiterate grunting moron and not the justice seeking, intelligent and experienced fire fighter Mel Gibson plays. This was a chance to continue what fans loved and I feel it didn't come up to pass Expand

Anybody could walk away for 10-20 minutes coming right back and this story will be in the same place that they left it, not missing anything at all. Nothing changes in the 2hrs of movie, it is that same 5 minute plot rehashed for a whole 2 hous. Starts somewhere, then ending in exactly that same place, doing a big circle that has absolutely no filler inbetween. I wouldn't have minded if there was something vaguley different going from one-minute on to the next, there wasn't anything at all.

The action is that 3d splatter CGI, constantly repeated, same fires, same person who looks the same at being shot, another unroad worthy vechile getting junked. The mutants and bandits are all mostly identical apart from the rulers, who have no personality they are mutated so they must be evil. Max also had no personality, no backstory, no introduction. The electric guitar was pointlessly stupid.

Gimme a break. There is a reason why these people where nuked. A middle of the road to no where action film.

If you feel that character, plot, and emotionalHave you ever seen a chase scene in an action movie and thought to yourself, 'WOW! I really wish this chase scene could be two hours long!' If so, Mad Max: Fury Road is your kind of movie. If you feel that character, plot, and emotional resonance are for sissies, then this is also a movie tailor-made for your tastes. If the thought of Michael Bay directing a mashup of Fast & Furious/Waterworld makes your sphincter tighten in anticipation, then you, my friend, have found home.

Despite some pretty impressively imagined nonsensical post-apocalyptic evil (women being milked for sustenance, breeding harems, deformed peasants withering away in the desert) and ridiculous metalhead spank bank fantasies (flamethrower guitar mutant strapped to amps strapped to a car, I'm lookin' at you) this movie is pretty uninspired.

It does, however, have fantastic camera work in some places. Certain shots are beautifully composed, ranging from "hey that was neat," to "oh wow." There is a certain black/white purple/blue night scene that is particularly beautiful. But it isn't enough to save this wreck of a movie. It gets a 5 for me because of the visual aesthetic, which would have earned a 10 if they had tried to put just a little bit of meat on the bone they dangled in front of us.

Fine as an action flick, but severely overrated. Not better than the first two Mad Max films. I defy anyone to come up with a quotable line, especially from a villain, that isn't the line from the trailer.

Great visuals, crap dialogue. Yes I know it's an action movie, I'm not expecting dialogue like the Godfather or from an Aaron Sorkin, but you do expect good stuff from the man that created Lord Humungus. Also, this is a Mad Max movie, they should have called it Imperator Furiosa since Charlize Theron is obviously the main focus of the film. And it's not really Mad Max without Mel Gibson.

Also the V8 Interceptor barely shows up. The action is pretty amazing, but overall too over-hyped. Disappointing.

But, beware there is no deep story or dialogue, mad max rarely talks or drives his car. The movie is all about Charlize and driving from point A to point B and then back to point A again. Once you realize this, you get bored. it is really just a bunch of people trying to stop a truck from driving to its destination, not enough unique visuals or gore to keep you interested though.

Charlize Theron was the true protagonist of the movie. While Tom Hardening has a knack for playing brooding characters (Warrior), he was clearly eclipsed by Charlize Theron in this film.
Arguably, Charlize Theron seemed to be the true protagonist of the film and in fact carried this movie. I have no doubt this would have been a much better film and story had her character been overtly central from the beginning, rather than the protagonist behind the protagonist. Perhaps movie moguls were afraid to alienate fans of the original male-dominated storyline, but that fear hurt this movie in my opinion. When you have an acting talent such as Theron on board--take full advantage of it!
This is not a movie with a lot of dialogue. So as expected, action scenes dominate this movie. But for me, it is those brief moments of dialogue, and those magical moments of non-verbal closeups on characters that are crucial to the story line and allow you to connect to the inner turmoil of the characters.
Up until Charlize Theron's character comes to life on the screen halfway thru the movie, the story is relatively dry. Some actors have that uncanny ability to speak a thousand words thru their eyes; Mel Gibson (original Mad Max movies) has that ability, and Charlize Theron has that ability in this movie. However, I didn't get that from Tom Harding in this film. Rather, he seemed disconnected from his character throughout the movie. Which is surprising considering his great performance in Warrior. In my opinion, an actor should be able to connect with the audience even if they are playing a disconnected character--that's the magic...To that end, I should mention Nicholas Hoult's performance was quite tangible and almost quantifiable in this film.
I'm not a fan of 3-D, and seeing this film in 3-D unfortunately didn't change my opinion. You still don't get that wrap-around affect that would create a truly immersional experience, and the colors are never as vibrant and crisp as in non-3D movies. I'm still waiting to be surprised--hopefully in my lifetime...
Disclaimer, I'm a fan of Charlize Theron. She's an excellent and seasoned actress willing to step up to the plate and show true acting chops in movies like Monster for which she won an Academy Award. I'm also a fan of Mel Gibson, so perhaps Tom Harding just had big shoes to fill...

It has no higher meaning, you get what you get, it won't make you feel any different from when you walked into the theatre. It's like going to see a glorified Michael Bay movie, albeit with better cinematography. The acclaim that this movie has received is undeserved, as it is just like any other action movie out there, it does nothing special. The times that the movie does take a turn from the two hour long car chase are pretty mediocre with unconvincing acting all around, really. Tom Hardy does a pretty okay job in this film, but he also has the same style as he does in a great majority of his work. It is a fun ride and an enjoyable watch, but not a groundbreaking development for action films. Expand

Im seeing crazy terms like Movie of the year. Im reading perfect reviews scores from so many critics that I wonder A) How do you get a job? B) Who are you writing for? The reader or the studios C) Are you giving it higher scores bcos you want to see more of the rebooted franchise? Clearly there is money involved. This looks good on screen, its Max, it has George Millers style dripping throughout, but all said and done its not a great movie. I was excited, the early screenings were received with applause, so impressed were the studios they gave Miller $14mill to go back add more explosions, more stunts..What Rubbish!! they were given $14million to buy the reviews of critics to cover over the complete lack of storyline, plot or character development. Make no mistake, this is marketing branding vehicle, like Hunger Games, totally purchased reviews. A pay day movie to the media sites and reviewers. They know this, play ball, perpetrate the myth. Charlise is there cos Max is wooden, maybe if he actually displayed some MAD qualities. His instincts, his battle with the crazies out there that took killed his family, the road warrior surviving the highways in his V8 Interceptor. No instead they blow up it in first 5mins of movie so he can travel on the venga bus/truck whatever. There is very little buy in, you dont feel the drama, the tension cos you know the result. It just tries to fill that 2hrs with distractions and stunts of crazies biting the dust that you care little about. Its the shallow surfaceness thats the problem. Theres no twists, no surprises, and lacks the characters of the original, or the comraderie of Max & Gyro Capt found in Mad Max 2. The crazies have about as much menace as Thunderdome. I saw Mad Max 2 with my brother 30yrs ago we came out of that movie amped. That was a classic. Max motivations were real. The threat was real, so then the drama was real, you bought into who would live and die. When Hollywood gonna learn? Charlize Theron is too well known, so theres never any threat to her. You know she will be there as will Max at the end of the movie. This ranks 3rd of the Max franchise, as nothings as bad as Thunderdome, however its still completely mindless and missing the soul of the first two. The reviews above 70 are generous, those in 80s need to get real.. The 90 to 100 scores hahaha you have been bought!! This is not a masterpiece. Do your bloodyy job. Sorry George Miller as an Aussie I want you to successfully reboot Max, but not like this. Make a quality Max, your last 2 efforts are diminishing the franchise. Its becoming a joke. Expand

I was told that you did not need to watch the previous films to enjoy this. However I felt that there were many story plots holes that could only be explained by fully understanding the Mad Max Universe. Acting was horrible for the exception of a few. Theron is amazing. Her eyes!

Overall, weak confusing opening with unsatisfying ending combined with plot holes. Action is good but this movie is not for everyone. If you are a fan of Mad Max, I'm sure you will love this movie. It has a weird vibe that I', just not used to. Will check it out again on DVD. By the was, one of the most well shot films in a long time. Points for that too.

The original Mad Max was uniquely odd and the second film, if memory serves correctly, was exciting if a tad more conventional. Beyond Thunderdome was just a disaster. A copper bottomed clinker that had Tina Turner appear for novelty value in addition to a load of dishevelled snotty nosed brats. This combination ensured thatt the turn off was complete. Thankfully, Fury Road is considerably better than that debacle, but is some way behind the earlier two instalments and is certainly not worthy of the euphoric reviews and praise that have been heaped upon it by both the critics and public, singing in unison for once it would appear. Production values are sound and it must be said that visually the film is an absolute delight. John Seale’s cinematic compositions for day and night are constantly impressive and there is one corker of a moment when what looks like a sand dune suddenly metamorphosis’s into Max (Tom Hardy). There is also much stylisation in the battle scenes with jump cuts adding immeasurably to the impact and editing that moves along at the rate of knots. The sound is another strong plus and whilst there is plenty of appropriate menace in the score one is unprepared for just how beautiful the music is here.
So what’s wrong with it? Well, unfortunately, the story is as light as a feather. This is basically just a two hour chase movie and only the most dedicated Max fans will not be tempted to give in to the unerring crash, bang, and wallop pointlessness of it all, despite the many technical strengths on display. Of the actors, Charlize Theron is really rather good in a role that is a million miles away from anything she has ever done before. Nicholas Hoult, unrecognisable under impressive make-up, is ok, but the weakest of the three leads. I use the term ‘lead’ loosely as Tom Hardy’s Max seems to be relegated to a supporting role here, even if the actor turns in another one of his customarily good performances. There is no doubting that Hardy is a better actor than Gibson, but for my money Max 1 and 2 remain the yardsticks by which the other films should be judged.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I dislike the cinema. A lot. A'holes stuffing their faces with giant bags of crisps - mobile phones - people talking - like jeez you fat-assed loudmouth can you not go for 2 hours without eating something? - Unreal. But much as I dislike the overpriced cinematic experience I decided with this movie It was must see on the big screen. Boy was I wrong. But first things first...

The main protagonist says next to nothing for the entire movie, in fact for a lot of it he is basically helpless. A lot has been made about the whole 'feminist over current' which runs throughout the movie. For me it wasn't that big a deal as this is essentially a science fiction. In fact it becomes laughable towards the end of the movie when the dessert dwelling motorcycle gang remove their helmets and WHOA! - what a surprise! - they are octogenarian gun-wielding badass grannies!! One of them manages to almost spit every time she uses the word 'man' or 'men', trust me proper feminists would be rolling their eyes at this hammy, gratuitous, matronising scripting.

As for the core of the movie itself, like others have said its basically one big car chase. I knew it would be, so no big surprise there, but I had 2 problems with this. The first was the speed of the action. The action sequences are happening so bloody quickly that you will struggle to take it all in. At some points you will even lose track of who is who particularly on the bonnet / roof / trailer fight scenes. It's a visual assault, but its just too much on a cinema screen - I reckon it will be better on a 42" or 50" lcd.

The other thing is the pace of the car chases. The old ‘speed up the film’ trick is used to convey a sense of breakneck speed during the chases but as soon as a realtime stunt is performed everything noticeably slows down, the car that flips around and drives in reverse being one example - its like one minute they are doing 110mph and next its 40mph then back to 110mph again.

Also, when Max stops the gang on the Salt Plain and suggests they turn around and go back towards the enemy that has been trying to kill them for the past 2 hours they all agree a bit too easily for my liking, even the old femme-warrior bats, just another suspend belief moment I guess.

On the positive side the setting, vehicles, wardrobe dept all nailed it. I was sort of reminded of that game called RAGE from a few years back in terms of the overall design theme.

To summarise Mad Max: Fury Road is definitely worth seeing because as an action movie it delivers in spades. I just hope that the director has satisfied his desire to placate the marauding feminist hordes and that the next movie is closer to the ethos of the original and it’s sequel.

Is it an LA freeway or an apocalyptic nightmare or just miles and miles of high octane road rage?
Doesn’t matter? “Fury” should be seen and not heard with spectacular action sequences and psychedelic landscapes reminiscent of Ben-Hur and Lawrence of Arabia. A polygamous water czar is hellbent on capturing a renegade warrior who goes off the beaten path with his precious cargo- and well, Mad Max goes along for the ride. Yet thirty minutes into this film - we’re riding on empty for any movie goer driven by plot, character and dialogue . Miller’s reboot revs its' engines but ends up going in circles.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I must have seen a totally different movie than the rest of the critics and reviewers. This was a movie full of cars, gun-fights, and explosions that somehow manages to be boring. The script feels like the first draft for an undergraduate screenwriting class, with Max uttering little more than a few grunts throughout the full two hours, a plan that flies in the face of all the rules for the universe that have already been set, and religious zealots who turn to celebrate the people who killed their messiah. Throw in some sloppy editing and bad pacing and this was ultimately a forgettable film.

Blowing the rocks in the mountain pass already proved to be little more than a temporary road block the first time, yet it is somehow a permanent solution to keeping out the war boys on the return trip. Watching Max try to convince Furiosa that this was a good idea was hilariously painful, especially once you realize that driving 160 days in any direction anywhere on Earth will eventually get you to an ocean, and that no motorcycle could possibly carry enough fuel for that kind of trip.

Nux is somehow converted from his lifetime of religious indoctrination in the course of two minutes, as are all of Immortan Joe's sycophants at the end. They are supposed to believe him as a holy messiah, yet they decide to serve his killers...?

The action was very good for the first half, but gets tiresome about the time that they start flipping people around on poles. The fight choreography starts to get very familiar and the war-rig has already proven completely immune to any kind of damage despite what must have been at least thirty different explosions.

On the point that everyone seems to have latched on to, the idea that this is a feminist film, is completely absurd. The takeaway here is that you matter if you're a young and attractive woman, but if you're old or undesirable then you're just another redshirt killed off without a second's thought. Throughout the whole movie, Joe's pretty wives literally sit in the back seat being completely useless as bad guys crawl up and attack Max from the back or stab Furiosa in the side. This is not Katniss Everdeen finding the strength to save her family and friends. With the exception of Charlize Theron's ass-kicking character the film's central message is nauseatingly regressive "if you're young and attractive then someone will come and save you, and the audience doesn't care one whit if anyone else dies in the process." It is mind-boggling how anyone saw this movie as empowering.

Miller gives us a crazy take on the post-apocalyptic world. His vision is twisted, violent, and at times quite humorous. It's a very stylistic film. Unfortunately I couldn't find too much substance backing it up.

The story and characters are rather shallow. Both just serve as vehicle for the action while giving us something and some people to root for. That's wouldn't really be too much of a bad thing had it delivered a little bit more in that department. Miller certainly does has a particular flair to his action scenes, but they are far from the mind-blowing spectacles so many would have us believe. What we get here is mildly entertaining at best.

The world this movie inhabits has a certain hideous beauty to it. It's just a shame it isn't filled with much compelling content. Performances are solid, but these actors aren't playing fleshed out characters and they aren't really given much to say. The story is a simple set up for big action-packed spectacle that never arrives. What we get is a mildly entertaining but ultimately disappointing action flick that doesn't deliver much. It's a case of a lot of flash and not much bang. It's not as "mad" as we were led to believe.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Good Guys: So here's the plan. We're going to face them head on, instead of going around, even though it would be infinitely easier to go around. Then, we'll take over the city and not worry at all about the hundreds of still-living bad guys that are slightly delayed by the rocks we left in our wake.

Bad Guys: So, here's the plan. We're going to give everyone guns, except the guys hanging from posts that are going to get closest to the people we want to kill.

Maybe I'm a pain in the ass, but it's this kind of stuff that really takes me out of a film. You create this whole beautiful, fictional world and then make the inhabitants of that world borderline retarded. You can do better.

If you make a conscious decision to turn your brain off, there's enough here to keep you mildly entertained. But there are definitely better alternatives.

Heavy on "style", low on story, character and dialog. It's one of those movies that at some point, you decide you're going to continue watching even though something inside you tells you it's a waste of time.

The whole movie is just a long car ride and I was bored. Good action scenes are no excuse for the lack of story. Expand

Phrases like "thrill a minute" or "roller coaster ride" don't even begin to cover it. Fasten your seatbelt for a wild ride, featuring an overdose of this series' signature truck race/combat sequences, with people clambering around trucks at top speed, and shootings, stabbings, and explosions galore. My favorites were the wild funny cars, the men attached to long poles swinging down to attack, and of course, the heavy metal guitarist chained to the front of a truck! Woohoo! Oh yes, and the costumes were plenty cool too. But the story and the characters? I feel like I say this about every big budget movie now - awesome effects, great production, fine acting - and a LCD script that has nothing whatsoever to say. Oh wait, most of the nice characters were women and one of them was a Muslim - is that feminist or something? Expand

It is a dumb fun action road movie and the stunts were really good. Yeah even if the characters are all pretty much two dimensional and the story is beyond simple.

Go Long And Fast.

Mad Max: Fury Road

Miller has taken things too far even for this franchise. Are we supposed to chug it all up? As much as passionate and meticulously driven this post apocalyptic world is, I would like to think that the genre sci-fi; which so it blatantly claims to be, is either misinterpreted or taken for granted in here. This film is far from being thought provoking. This raw ruffian ideology that George Miller; the writer-director, thrives upon, is more admirable than overwhelming. His utter fierceful confident in his vision is frankly dangerous. To pull off such a heist- if I could call it- at this scale is purely inspirational.

It is so bizarrely grand that the narration or characters or even the cinema itself gets lost into the dust. Aforementioned, it can be difficult for some viewers to swallow in this whole tale, swirling around in a pathos unapologetic world, there is barely any host for us to root for. And this very three dimensional take is what helps the cast to portray a fluid creamy persona in this bumpy road. Charlize Theron as the most lethal and convincing among all, is more than a match for Tom Hardy's "one instinct-ish" iconic character Max.

In fact, if anything, Hardy has to try hard, even snatch a gun in order to helm charge on her, a fatal attempt as Theron refuses to share the steely cold looks with anyone on screen. Another fascinating factor is the supporting characters and how invested they are in telling this story, crossing boundaries and showcasing a feat of bravery and commitment, this ensemble of cast defines the term "teamwork" to a whole new level. Mad Max: Fury Road iterates the theme of the world in its long action sequences, a game of chess, not the sacrifice or the head scratching tricks of it, but a succession of winning attempts.

First off, Mad Max is a mute passenger in his own film, for a good part of it. That just isn't what I go to see a Mad Max film for. Then it's the baddies. They're simply not all that bad. The look and act menacing, but it's not backed up by deeds, so it is difficult to see them as truly frightening. The idea to give ideology to the lesser minions, to humanise them, is pretty pointless and ultimately distracting. Am I supposed to hate and fear these people or have a special place in my heart for them? It just doesn't work. When we run into Hell's Grannies (tm) toward the end of the film, it just stretches credibility. It's just not what you would find in a post-apocalyptic world. Once again, talk and bravado and no action to back it up, on top of the lack of credibility. Then the ending, which I won't spoil. Why? Why them? Why are they the ones? It makes no sense. Then the final problem I mention, there is the problem of motivation for the female hero (and Max for that matter). Why is she doing what she is doing? She has no stake in it as can be seen. In a world like this, for someone to stick their neck out purely to help others lacks credibility. In Mad Max 2 for example, the selfish motives of Max are painstakingly established. Take note, filmmakers. There are other minor problems: wasting ammunition with machine guns. MM2 clearly establishes that there are guns around, but ammunition is very hard to come by. Then there are some cartoon physics involving firebombs. Expand

The action is the only good thing besides the car. The characters aren't relatable and don't offer much dialog. All this film is over the top action with little to no dialog or character development.

Visually stunning and technically advanced it is, but I did not see much more than loud explosions and monster trucks in this film. It is certainly not bad, but I find it quite overrated.
