George Miller has created a new language for action movies. The movie delivers the best breath-taking scenes. There is art in each take. The movie speaks by itself -- it is one of the rarest cases in which there is no need to explain about the movie.

It was still very fun to watch and Tom Hardy did a good job at play Max, even though he had maybe a couple of paragraphs of dialogue the entire movie. Everyone came together to make this a very good movie, while nothing really stood out in terms what I'll remember it by. It will certainly be something I'll look to add to my collection once it is released on Blu-Ray and that's how I know it was a good movie. Expand

At first I thought this was just going to be sensory overload and all the explosions were going to make for an empty TNT-fest. But nope, despite there being explosions aplenty none of it wore down the movie or the movie-goers. So far, my top pick for best movie of 2015.

In 2015, we have a version with stunning and exciting special effetcs, a brilliant soundtrack and the elements that made this franchise so beloved. Hardy replaces extremely well Mel Gibson, as a man hunted by his past who's only trying to survive in an undecent and crazy world. But being honest, who steals it is Charlize Theron as Furiosa. She's so good that her character's name should be on the title. Hoult is also amazing as a dying boy who's blind to Immortan Joe's legacy and eventually becomes a key role in the film. And yes, there's still plently space to humor. George Miller made a terrific film, who manages to be as good as or perhaps even better than the movies released three decades ago. Expand

This movie is not as groundbreaking as all the reviewers will have you believe. It's a great movie without a doubt, but there were some aspects of the film I didn't like that made me lower my score.

First off, the world Miller created is amazing. Everyone and everything is crazy in true Mad Max fashion. This leads to having great visuals and action scenes throughout the entire film. However, there was almost too much action in the film, that by the end the finale just wasn't that impactful. The action itself is amazing. It didn't feel choreographed at all. It had a very spontaneous feel to it, which made it seem real and authentic. You know, the way action should be! I'm tired of watching computer game action sequences in films today. So this was a much needed breath of fresh air.

Second, I hate movies in which I can't understand dialogue anymore. Actors are instructed to talk crazy to give characters more depth. Ok, I understand that, but it's so bad that I can't understand half the things being said. Luckily, the female characters (who are not crazy) I can understand clearly. All the male crazy characters have weird accents, machines over their faces to distort their words, or are just flat out yelling. Yes, the world is crazy in a beautfiul way... but I would like to know what they are saying while doing crazy things. I'll put on subtitles next time I watch this film.

Finally, my biggest beef with the movie is the Mad Max character himself. I know the main complaint some might have is that he wasn't the main character in the film. I'm not bothered by that at all. My problem is that he doesn't feel like the same character I loved in the original films. The whole charm of the original Mad Max films for me is that Max himself was a calm, cool, collected badass in a world gone crazy. Max is suppose to be above it all, however in this film he's portayed as someone who's pretty much as crazy as everyone else. He's no longer calm and collected, but not he's screaming, paranoid, frantic, and haunted by his family's death... His family's death in the first film didn't consume him several years later when looking at Road Warrior or Thunderdome. Did anyone else feel like this Max character wasn't really the Max we've seen in the prior three films? It didn't to me, and it was bugging me the whole film.

This movie is the poster child for style over substance. The costumes, sets, and character designs are gorgeous. The humor and spectacle of the film really stand out.

Unfortunately, all of this style never amounts to anything more than a car chase. The characters look great, but we don't know much about them besides where they live and how they dress. Furiosa and Max are like blanks where I suppose the viewer is supposed to fill themselves in. You're meant to want to BE Furiosa or Max, not KNOW the characters.

Underneath all of this caked on superficiality, there's a vague anti-authoritarian message that's drowned out by guitar-flamethrowers and revving engines. I was really interested to learn more about that and to see Max, Furiosa, and Nux do something besides fight, drive, and shoot.

With the slower scenes feeling more like it was placed there for you to catch your breath and have your heartbeat return to normal. Tom Hardy becomes even more bad-a$$ in his performance as Max. Charlize Theron casually reminds the world how amazing she is with a flawless performance!

Overall a must watch. The movie is pretty much a 2 hour EPIC chase scene. Yeah there are a few moments of "hmm I guess it's okay they didn't totally acknowledge why a certain character is so quick to accept a few things given their background" but if they addressed every little thing then we would have a very different movie. Go See Mad Max in theaters, you won't regret it!

No movie has been made like this, with so much energy, chaos and excitement. The movie has a great set-up, with the main villain Immortan Joe being one of the craziest villians in the past few years. Max himself is quite and subtle, but like everyone else in the wasteland is a bit mad and unpredictable. The main plot has a great premise, if a bit flimsy and sort of falls apart with plot holes near the end, but has a mature theme. The movie is filled with interesting and bizarre characters. One thing that I found was interesting is that max doesn't really seem to be the main character, although he is a lead. The main character seems like Furiosa, the female lead. Most of the movie revolves around her actions, shes acted and portrayed perfectly. Furiosa is one of the best female character leads of all time. She's not afraid to get her hands dirty and takes the punishment of her actions and from others really well and always seems to come on top in the long run. The Next most interesting characters are Nux, Immortan joe and max.

Another thing I have the mention are the cars. The cars in this movie are F**king nuts. Each one seems to have its own personality of what it represents and who drives it. The effects in this movie are mostly real. Real explosions, real cars and props( yes the guy in the trailer with the flaming guitar was real). Surprisingly little cgi or green screen effects, with is what makes this movie so damn good is that everything looks real because it is real.

Overrall, this is a movie you have to experience for yourself. Its not something that can really be watched on a T.V or a Iphone. Unless you got a home theater with surround sound you HAVE to go see it in theaters.

This is the kind of movie Michael Bay imagines he makes.

Mad Max fury road is like a drugged out insane re-imagining of Mad Max 2, with 150 million dollars of budget powering unparalleled vehicular destruction, lunatic action scenes and a strong characterisation all anchored by someone who has an actual vision. George Miller knows where the action is happening and wants the people watching to know too. Not too many jump cuts, no insane closeups or swoops unless it makes things better,

It's the best movie I've seen in two or three years, and possibly the best film too.

Was it perfect, no, but it was really good. They struck a nice balance between realism and fantasy physics. The story did not get to complex or retread the previous movies story lines. It fit the Mad Max universe.

I am willing to say Fury Road is the best of the Mad Max series. Loved Road Warrior, but Fury Road got to take advantage of a higher budget and more modern effects.

The only thing that kind of annoyed me was the children memory thing. They over did that at times.

Did I miss Mel Gibson, nope. Tom Hardy is a great replacement for Mad Mel.

That's fine but don't hate because you simply don't understand it. The style is unique, the characters are even more unique, and the setting are down right unique. A place of only sand, water, sky, and some dirt; coins be this interesting is beyond me. Also above my pay grade which is nothing.
The movie is supposed to be set during the first and second one. Though it's crazier than any Mad Max before. This is the movie that Miller would have made first if he had the same visual effects back then. It's like a acid trip gone right. Car chases, hi octane cars, and a visual effects so that has been lost over the ages.
Practical effects over visual effects make MM the best movie of the year. The story keeps you engaged. If you loved the road warrior, then you'll love this too. The road warrior is slightly better because of it being a timeless classic but this does it justice. A movie that will have you on the edge of your sit but you will be wanting to let go and join the ride.
Again this movie isn't for people without the ability to comprehend it or those who simply don't understand. Though don't go watch it. For those fans of the original and of people who just love quality movies. Go watch it. Overall it's an awesome chapter into the amazing world of MM and will satisfy those who can appreciate an old movie in a new movie era. 9.5/10

I don't demand moreI can't remember the last time I was so disappointed in a move. I expected to love this movie - I love the originals specifically (first two more than the third, obviously) and sci-fi and post apocalyptic movies generally. I don't demand more than the skimpiest of plots in them as long as I care about whether the people live or die as we go on their journey with them. And in this movie I really didn't care.

In the original movies, I cared about Max and understood his pain. In 1, I knew why he was in the situation he was in and I knew why he did what he did, even while I wanted him to be better. In 2, I cared about the other people in the settlement and I wanted them to understand that Max was a good guy deep down and wanted them to accept him. I cared about Max's dog and what happened to him more than I cared about any human character at all in this new movie.

Yes, the movie looked incredible, but all it did was take a bunch of undeniably incredible set pieces and then flap about looking for a plot to string them together. This was like a two hour trailer for a movie I felt I WOULD like to watch, because in the actual movie there would have been something to make me care one jot for the people in it. And I just didn't.

1) There is no story and hardly any dialogue in this movie. There are few references to what Charlize Theron is trying to do and I understand why, but it is quickly forgotten and lost in the action.
2) I realized half way through the movie that I didn't care about a single character (even Max). There is very little character development other than displaying how each one shoots a gun or stabs at another character. They could have blown up the world and the bonus is the movie would have been over sooner.
3) The movie went to far over the top with deformed, ugly, degenerate human beings. They even cut all of Charlize's hair off and if that wasn't enough, let's amputate her left arm at the elbow. Lost opportunity for nice eye candy in the movie.
4) I got tired of looking at my watch every 30 minutes.

1 star for some decent action scenes which dominate the movie and become monotonous as they blur into each other.

If you can only see one film at the movies, make sure it's this. Non-stop action from start to finish.
But skip the 3D, there aren't much 3D effects and it only distracts from being able to enjoy this masterpiece fully.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. REALLY good and intense movie throughout. The part when one of the wives dies is really sad. Also, Immortan Joe is very creepy and the movie is more violent than a normal r-rated movie. This movie would have been nothing without Furiosa. Tom Hardy is excellent as Max and from the beginning to the end, Mad Max: Fury Road was very intense. I even got a poster when I saw it in 3D. Expand

When I sawed the reviews for this movie my first thought I got was "Every critic has lost their minds, even me".

The story is about a post-apocalyptic wasteland - the fight for survival has twisted the remnants of mankind, turning most into mad, vicious gangs. In this chaotic world two rebels may be able to restore order while seeking their own forms of redemption: Max, a man who just wants peace after losing his wife and child and Furiosa - who thinks finding her childhood home is the answer.

What a lovely day to be talking about Mad Max: Fury Road because the trailers and the reviews for this movie have been off the walls mad, I mean 5/5 star's wow just wow. The last Mad Max film came out in 1985 so it's a been a long time and this movie was in development for a long time as well. So I was curious and a bit shady for this movie, seeing if George Miller (The director of the original films) was going to bring to the table. Now after seeing the movie and having a long thought about it, this movie is freaking awesome, no actually this is the best action movie of the year and probably the grade.

George Miller goes back to his roots and he doesn't disappointment, after all these years later he's still got it. He filmed all the action scenes with care and effort because most of the action in this movie is practical effects and that right there shows that Miller is going back to old school action and it paid off perfectly. Awesome work George Miller.

The movie itself is mad and I mean freaking insane, The trailers don't lie. These was this one guy in the movie that was playing a electric guitar flamethrower on top of a speed vehicle and all through out the movie was rocking it out, I don't know why but little things like that made the movie so mad that it's enjoyable.

Tom Hardy as Max Rockatansky was good, I mean he wasn't as good as Mel Gibson but I still think he did a great job in the movie. Most of the time Max doesn't talk all that, most of he's lines are "huh", but he has a couple of lines in the movie and it sounded epic all the time.

Charlize Theron in this movie is basically the main character of the film and Max is the supporting character and Charlize Theron was like a female version of Max in a way, because her character steels the whole show as her character is a strong female bad-ass that kicks so much ass that it's very rare in action movies today to do that. Now think of all the strong female character's in past action movies, well that's Theron character right here.

The action scenes in this movie I can best describe as incredible and also crazy. The stunt work used during the movie was pretty amazing, they used practical effects in the movie and it looked so good and much better then using computers to make something look incredible but really it looks to computer-ish, and I know they used some CG for scenes where it needed it because it would be too dangerous or impossible to do, but for the most part it's all practical effect's and THIS IS HOW ACTION MOVIES SHOULD BE DONE, THANK YOU MAD MAX FOR DOING THIS, okay I had to get that out there and sorry for shouting... but it's true.

The villain of the movie "Immortan Joe" played by Hugh Keays- Byrne and yes he was in the first Mad Max movie, but here he plays a different villain this time and a menacing one as well. He was like a mix of Dark Vader from Star Wars and Sweet Tooth from Twisted Metal (Video Game). He was awesome villain that didn't take sh*t from anyone and always looked like he was going to cause trouble every time he's on screen.

The cinematography in this movie was just beautiful and some of the best looking shoots of the year. I can't believe I'm saying that for a action movie that's been in development for years and it payed off perfectly. This is very rare for this to happen as a lot of movie franchises that have been in the making for years and years would normally come out to late where every body just lost interest and give up waiting, and the movie itself would turn out not so good, but here is much different, that this movie breaks a new ground of coming out late but still being a amazing thrill ride.

The other women in the movie know as the five wives are not just there to look pretty and be saved by any man, no they kicked ass in the movie and they actually did something. The five wives were strong women and this isn't just a mans movie, I mean most of the movie is the women kicking ass and being awesome, they kick more ass then Max ever did. That's why I got to give this movie praise for that.

Now for the problems: I tried to look for things that didn't quite work for the movie and to be honest I couldn't find anything that I thought was not so good. Well there was some slow parts in the movie but the slow parts where the action clams down for now it fills it's time with character development and back story and it worked.

Overall forget Pitch Perfect 2, this is the movie you should see at cinema because as a movie reviewer myself who wants action movies to be more then turn your brain off and enjoy whatever slob mess there is on the screen, no I want a movie experience that I can look at and say "Now that's a action movie done right", and that's Mad Max for you.

"Mad Max: Fury Road" 10 Scale Rating: 9.0 (Fantastic) ...

The Good: Quite possibly one of the greatest action films of the last 20 years, if not of all time. The film retains the gritty tone of the original films, but with updated effects and choreography that is mind-blowing. "Pulse-pounding" and "edge of your seat action" are terms that get thrown around a lot in reviews of films like this one, but they are completely appropriate here. Almost the entirety of the movie is spent on one "war rig", but there is a certain level of twisted beauty in the simplicity of it all. The vehicles are fascinating beasts of twisted metal and gasoline. The characters are hopeless, yet determined. The world itself is barren, hot, and unforgiving. This all sets the tone perfectly as you watch the protagonists struggle through it all in a series of brilliantly designed chases, brutal battles, and bloody deaths. Hardy was well cast as the titular Mad Max, grunting and fighting while uttering few words. Nicholas Hoult is unrecognizable as Nux, one of Immortan Joe's (the main villain of the film) "War Boys". When he's on-screen, he definitely stands out and Hoult is becoming quite the character actor. The real star of the film, however, was Charlize Theron. If anyone ever wondered if she could pull off an action film, wonder no longer. She not only pulls it off, but excels. Entertaining from start to finish, Mad Max: Fury Road is already in the running for best film of 2015.

The Bad: Not that it matters TOO much, but the plot is not only paper thin, but mostly non-existent. It's a small detail, but prevents the film from being absolutely perfect. Aside from that, some of "the Wives", who are a plot device that helps drive the film, were somewhat annoying and uninteresting.

I mean if this film does not click with the audience and flops, that means it’s not the filmmakers’ fault, it’s the audience that will spell the end of innovating, original, fresh daring, bold blockbusters like these, which are already impossible to make in this day and age. To say this is the movie of the year would be an understatement, it’s quite simply a stunning work of art, filled with impressionistic visual splendour that stuns you from beginning to end. George Miller proves why he’s a master filmmaker when it comes to staging epic stunts and, of course, chase sequences. And it wouldn’t be an overestimation if I deem Fury Road (2015) superior to Road Warrior (1981) and as the best of the Mad Max series. This one takes the cake for being the must watch movie of the year; one that demands to be seen only on the biggest IMAX screen you can find. For once the hype and the reviews more than lived up to expectations. Action and blockbuster cinema simply does not get better than this, the bar has been set very high. Expand

Charlize Theron did a great job, which I'm glad to see after the last few stinkers she's been in. It's pretty much nothing but action for 2.5 hours straight, but it worked in its own way.

If you're going to see an action movie this summer, I'd say choose either this or Age of Ultron, but this was definitely the superior movie.

The dialogue is silly and/or unintelligible. In the handful of scenes where the film stops for character stuff, it's laughable - as long as you're looking at cars in motion, it's awesome.

It's no T2, Dark Knight, Indiana Jones or Die Hard, great action movies with indelible characters whose fates we care about. There's literally no-one to get behind in the film - Furiosa has purpose but no story - so it has its look and it's mayhem, but nothing else. At least Tom Hardy plays it for laughs - his performance brings the humour that the film needs as relief from the mayhem.

George Miller delivers a spectacle that both fanboys and general moviegoers have been waiting for for 30 years, and it's an exhilarating experience that more than delivers. Every aspect from the cinematography to the practical effects to the special effects to the acting and to the directing are all worthy of praise for making its mark as one of the best films of 2015, and quite possibly one of the best films of the decade. The film ingeniously blends a post-apocalyptic drama that is driven along by its stunning visuals and never-ending action sequences to bring to life an epic story that is impressive on every level. The director had successfully modernized his own franchise that has proved to withstand time and create a compelling installment that is deserving of the long hiatus of the franchise. Becuase, the years we yearned for Mad Max, this dude was cooking up some serious entertainment. Fury Road is pure excellent filmmaking, the visuals are off the charts, the acting by Charlize Theron may be her absolute best and the stunts are bloodcurdling fun. The story starts out with Max (Tom Hardy), a former cop, who gets abducted by War Boys, skinny looking minions of Immortan Joe, to be their "blood bank". He ends up being a blood bank for Nux (Nicholas Hoult), a brainwashed War Boy. The story entwines with the story of Furiosa (Charlize Theron) who involves Max's escape into HER plan to take tortured girls put of Immortan Joe's captivity, to a place where mankind will thrive, the place where she was born. For the rest of the runtime, experiance Joe's minions getting in their way, for a long car chase, that glued me to my seat for some heart pumping, bloody thrills. Acting wise, Hardy makes a good Max, he has the hint that Mel Gibson had in the previous movies. The real kick is Theron, a fearless warrior, she has a dark past attached to her and the movie adapts to her story in her way as well. Hoult as Nux is not short of its kick as well. Mad Max has come a long way, Miller has crafted a new path for the Mad Max Universe, with some really interesting weird characters and Furiosa's story has more to it. But for what we have now, this is a standalone masterpiece, easily the best in the series. Fury Road puts all other acrion movies to shame. I hope Miller brings us another venture into a dark, crazy wasteland. He is a man of his word, this is a masterpeice. DONT MISS IT. Expand

Great visuals, crap dialogue. Yes I know it's an action movie, I'm not expecting dialogue like the Godfather or from an Aaron Sorkin, but you do expect good stuff from the man that created Lord Humungus. Also, this is a Mad Max movie, they should have called it Imperator Furiosa since Charlize Theron is obviously the main focus of the film. And it's not really Mad Max without Mel Gibson.

Also the V8 Interceptor barely shows up. The action is pretty amazing, but overall too over-hyped. Disappointing.

The beautiful cinematography and visuals, the jaw-dropping practical stunts and designs that put modern CGI-filled blockbusters to shame, the fantastic performances from Charlize Theron and Nicholas Hoult (The real stars of the film; though Hardy gives a pretty good interpretation of Max), the crazy ideas and world elements that add to the post-apocalyptic chaos, the FANTASTIC action sequences that never stop or drag, the oddball humour and jokes, and the surprisingly feminist approach to gender roles within a world with no rules all add to make what is definitely the best action film in recent memory. Its hard to believe that George Miller could pull off such an action packed visually stunning film 30 years after the last Mad Max film Beyond Thunderdome. The film follows a simple premise and it sticks to it. The film appropriately in 3D and I think its the best 3D experience I've had. Tom Hardy is the new Max and this is the role he was meant to play. This movie is going to make him a household name and not just "the guy who played Bane". Charlize Theron is just as badass as Hardy and its nice to finally see some women getting the action treatment because that's long overdue. I just could not find anything wrong with this movie. It gets your heart racing and its great visually. I can't wait for a sequel. Expand

The characters are quite rich from an emotional standpoint and elevated by overall excellent performances, which also happen to be very fun to watch. There's a lot of creativity put into the stunt work, which keeps you at the edge of your seat. Overall, it was very satisfying to see a summer movie this surprisngly good after the disappointment of Avengers: Age of Ultron. Expand

Artistically brilliant. Remarkably well paced. Exciting as hell. And a refreshing treatment of gender equality in film. The women aren't damsels in distress or sexual subplot devices, they're real people in a bad situation. Just straight raw humanity.

I think the game just got rewritten.

I'm still waiting for a story to begin. I like simple, entertaining action movies (Shogun Assassin, any late 70's zombie movie, The Warriors), but this was a gratuitously long music video for a clown playing one guitar chord.

Within the first 3 minutes I kept asking myself "Why is this artificially sped up?" My hunch was that the old movies (which I haven't seen) did that. Later research confirmed this. This was probably a cool effect back in the 70s, but in the post-Transformers world of barely-coherent editing in action sequences, it just makes things so much worse.

Other than Max, each character's name is uttered maybe once, amidst screaming and car crashing, so I didn't know anyone's name until I looked it up later.

Almost all of the eleven lines in this movie are delivered with the melodramatic heft of a Spanish soap opera. I laughed at most of them. No one else in the theater did, which alarmed me. I think I counted 20 words from Max's mouth. His brow is furrowed the entire time.

This movie is described as "ultra-violent", yet if you take out 3 or 4 of the shots with blood, it's mostly pale dudes bouncing off of cars for 2 hours. It's more like a live-action Looney Tunes flick. Could have definitely gotten a PG-13 if desired, but that probably wouldn't have been edgy enough.

Seriously, just a few scenes of dialogue could have established the world, and the problems, but the opening narration is just "i am max. i run and stuff." I've dropped into other franchises with sequels first and never felt like I was missing a wealth of knowledge and unable to understand their world. Mad Max's world makes no sense to me, which again, is fine and a decision on behalf of the creators. But you need to give me SOME reason why characters are making the inane decisions that they do, otherwise everyone comes across as purely stupid.

I fell asleep during the last 20 minutes, so I'm not sure how it ended and I don't really care.

The effects are quite good (minus the fast-forward effect), and some of the set pieces are really cool. I dug the intro action sequence (though it basically never ends). The music is literally one symphonic swell with a palm-muted guitar chord over it.

Setting in future, the plot's apocalyptic society and sexual politics are pretty straightforward; combining the insanity, hyper-accelerating and exhilarating actions without repetition of styles, all are presented in a creative way which is rarely seen in recent films. While it's not necessary anyway, the film does not have much of characters development but both Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron, as well as the presence of Nicholas Hoult have a great screen time of heroic performances. Meanwhile, musics by Junkie XL sound loud, tremendous and powerful (likely influenced by Hans Zimmer's style) surprisingly suit the film well, including the cool and classic cinematography by John Seale, Miller is able to deliver more than what audiences might be expecting, even with overdose f action scenes, it is still effectively balanced with emotional moments and inspiring messages. Mad Max gets taken very easily taken by a raiders gang ( you know the guy that has survived the wastelands for decades) and proceeds to be taken prisoner by a gang that are incapable of being the least bit articulate or show any intelligence. Yet they are somehow able to build and maintain various cars able to produce agriculture, make elaborate costumes, manipulate and control it's citizens and be organized enough to create a functioning society with working technology. I won't even mention how the way blood is transfused in this is impossible and wouldn't really work. Also the environment and costumes in this movie makes no sense what there is no resources left but you can make all of these elaborate costumes and machines. There were scenes in this movie where I literally had to stop myself from laughing like the breastfeeding scenes with plastic tubes and then cut to a midget in a highchair with a telescope. But to be honest the only reason anyone likes this film is because of the action which to be fair is really good but there is only so much bad one dimensional characters and silly character design I can handle before something is too stupid too watch. The film had mesmerizing actionsThis film was an absolutely phenomenal action film through and through, and definitely George Millers greatest masterpiece yet. This film brought out what looked like the Max he had always wanted to make. The film had mesmerizing actions sequences partially due to the lack of shaky cam one million shot action takes and keeping you on the action at all times and also due in part to the beautiful cinematography the film carried. The setting is also a lovely vibrant colour that makes each scene look eye watering.
Now the characters. Max was the mentally tormented Max we'd really wanted to see over all these films (his previous incarnations never really being mad but just angry) and Tom Hardy brought a nice presence on screen. His dialogue was short and to the point at most times as of his one instinct: survive. His accent was indistinguishable and voice coarse due to obviously not having much social interaction since the world fell. These were nice subtle touches.
Now Charlize Theron is probably one of the greatest heroines since Ripley in Aliens, and brought a grit and determination to the film. Her and Hardy worked off of each other well with contrasting and harmonizing qualities.
Also, Miller has created some extra subtle but brilliant scene in this film outside of all the action, for instance one scene when Max is about to shotgun someone's hand off to detach his chains, with this scene building up quickly, obviously and brilliantly. Also, in this scene (and many others) there are call backs to the previous Mad Max films that don't feel forced into this film for nostalgia but actually work within this film by themselves as well.
However, to have anything to criticize about this film would possibly be the dialogue. It's pretty plainly written and could be done by most 18 year old film students. Additionally to that, the kind of romance that blooms between Nux and the bride seems a bit blunt and stupid really, not really advancing the story and making a character you wish had good intentions but was still bat **** insane into a heroic whelping softy. And finally, the stories way of concluding itself (backtracking of sorts) seemed pretty ridiculous but it still worked well, and for the majority of these criticisms to be honest don't really matter too much when you watch this film as an action film, and that's what you should go see it as. All these people saying it was a bad film due to such and such aren't looking at this film as an action film, which IS what it is.
Overall, with beautiful visual eye candy, ecstatically amazing action sequences, solid performances and a good bit of humour here and there Mad Max has ended up being an action film to remember and the pinnacle of the franchise (so far). Lets hope for more action films to live up to and surpass the quality of this one!

Plenty of sterile action movies have came out throug the decade, none of 'em even close to serious action movie. Either they've got a very bad plot, or a terrible cast. If you'd like to watch a great "pure action movie" with nonstop road chase in greatly modified postapocalyptic world, with not many dialogues, just go get the tickets, sit down and watch.
I'm not saying it's the best pure action movie I've ever seen Its not, but in the last 15 years I haven't seen anything at this level. In it's own category IT'S a gem. Btw great soundtrack, great characters, a bit "not exactly what I was expecting" ending... 3D wasn't great, indeed the picture quality was just amazing.

Mad Max didn't disappoint. For a movie with lighter dialogue and amped-up action sequences that will blow anything Michael Bay could ever hope to achieve out of the water, Mad Max has a bit of heart (though it's still somewhat light for plot and character development - only offering what you need to buy into the movie) . It's gloriously over the top but somehow remains somewhat visceral. The magic is happening as the result of well-crafted action sequences that progress appropriately, instead of throwing all sorts of extra obstacles and insanity "just because". Everything is focused and paced well, and I really enjoyed that about MM. While the first half of the movie is entertaining, it's the final half hour that really had me on the edge of my seat. I'm not certain there's supposed to be any other Mad Max movies to follow this reboot, but they'll have to work wonders to top the action bar set here. Expand

Two hours of nonstop adrenaline, mixed in with a hefty amount of emotion, it eats at you wanting even enemy-turned allies to stay alive throughout.

Tom Hardy is the perfect replacement as Max Rockatanksy, and it lives up to every amount of hype that you had any worries for. The film was beautifully shot, the wasteland was like nothing i had ever seen before in a post-apocalyptic world. And to think that 99% of the time, you are watching real stunt work, and real practical effects: every vehicle is real and crafted to be menacing. I havent felt this happy over an action movie in over a decade.

Fury Road has set the bar high for all action movies after it, and is going to be one difficult experience to top for the remainder of the year. Oh, and how can we forget the guy with the flamethrower guitar? George Miller, you just gave the middle finger to all of Hollywood thereafter. This is how a cinema should be done.

Up front, I enjoyed it. Puts the Fast and Furious movies to complete shame. And I enjoyed the original too. It’s an entertaining series, and we’ve got some worthy new lead actors to carry the story forward. Kudos to the production.
However, I’m shooting for the tires of all those “10” ratings out there.
First, the movie is essentially a car (truck) chase, which makes it difficult to give dynamic range to the drama – it’s always on pretty loud.
Second, the performances are good given this context, but hardly stand as masterpieces of character acting.
Third, let’s keep our powder dry and acknowledge that 8 or 9 is a worthy score for this movie. If you give Fury Road a 10, what does Raging Bull, or The Godfather Part II, or, if you want to stick to sci-fi, Inception or The Terminator, deserve? Or, if you want a bizarre, violent chase out of the Western genre, what does The Good, The Bad and The Ugly get, if this is a 10?
Fourth, the action-heavy and dialogue-light nature of this genre – and this is a genre film – leaves you with few memorable lines. Without that, it is harder to have memorable scenes. How do we build a shared shorthand around this “classic”? Do we use phrases like “the scene where he got the mask off his face” or “when Max gave her the gun because she was the better shot”? It is not impossible, but it is difficult.
So, go to this movie and enjoy its entertainment value, but let’s not elevate too many comics to classics.

I was told that you did not need to watch the previous films to enjoy this. However I felt that there were many story plots holes that could only be explained by fully understanding the Mad Max Universe. Acting was horrible for the exception of a few. Theron is amazing. Her eyes!

Overall, weak confusing opening with unsatisfying ending combined with plot holes. Action is good but this movie is not for everyone. If you are a fan of Mad Max, I'm sure you will love this movie. It has a weird vibe that I', just not used to. Will check it out again on DVD. By the was, one of the most well shot films in a long time. Points for that too.

Color me bonkers, sure the dialogue is scant, Hardy never really breaks out but still can put on a good fight. There a couple of other weakness and yes the hype machine is in full force so there are going to be those that will come away disappointed or does not meet their engrained idea of what a perfect movie should be. This is not a perfect movie...it is though the perfect Mad Max movie and its everything that I had hoped for. Real action, crazy stunts, a lunatic hellish world, memorable characters, and even more surprising a touching score that accents the action to its dizzying heights but also quite moving in the quiet moments. Yes the movie does belong to Furiosa..so get used it..she belongs with the other greats such as Ripley and Sarah Connors (T2 Sarah). This is action er that offers something different than the what we have been used to, mainly CGI superhero slugfests..and I still enjoy those, but there is something deeply primal that is missing from those movies and this movie is the definition of primal action at its best.
