However, despite the eye-candy production, there really isn't anything special about the movie, really. The plot didn't have anything unique in store, the acting was good enough... but was it the movie THAT good to receive 8 and 9s across the board? In my eyes, "Mad Max: Fury Road" is just a enjoyable blockbuster flick that just makes the bar rather than setting it. Expand

This is truly the greatest movie of all time. I wish I was joking, that this "silly" action movie full of explosions, this two-hour car chase, this movie so ripe with violent hyperbole and rusted metal, is somehow the greatest movie ever made, but it is. It may not have the most thought provoking plot, the most mind bending twists, or the most intricately crafted story. However, when you go to see a movie, you come in with some expectation of what you are about to see. I didn't expect that with this movie. This movie showed me something different, that there is a different way. There is a different way to make movies where artistry and orchestration of a million tons of steel and a trillion tons of sand can combine to tell a story on its own. Where absolutely no camera shots or words are wasted. Where every single frame plays together to create a masterpiece of visual and active story telling. Where every second of dead air hangs thick with anticipation. This movie is a circus; George Miller is laughing as he takes apart expectation and he shreds action movie tropes, only to have something truly original and important come out the other side. The most original, daring, and inventive movie in 30 years is an installment in a 30-year-old franchise. That is the cosmic irony and beautiful existence of Mad Max: Fury Road. I can not comprehend a better movie than this. It is exactly what I have always wanted. Expand

I think one critic put it best - this movie will melt your face off!

The movie has EVERYTHING and is a blast. I'm not old enough to have grown up with the other Mad Max series, but I can tell you that this is as original as it gets for my generation, so great to see a movie that was completely different from the factory-line superhero drivel hollywood keeps pumping out.

Only downside, Max hardly has any dialogue, but it sort of goes nicely with his character.

Must be seen in theatres.

Not that there is anything particularly wrong with those things but, when they play up those attributes and abandon others, like character development, plot structure, and practicality, you get a movie like this. In simple terms, this movie is a 2 hour car chase. Without any reasonable amount of time put in to discovering the motives of the protagonist or the antagonist. What is it that makes Max the good guy? Was that really clear? Why did this chase even happen and why was it so violent and costly? Was that clear? If you show a movie where cars chase each other for the whole run time, you should at least know for sure why. I understand that the antagonist's wives were stolen, but what made them so important? Why was so much risked and lost over these women? See, this movie created a smoke screen of fast paced action, flash, and flare, without actually creating anything profound. It abandoned the older Mad Max films' gritty, thrifty, and witty ways. Some parts were cool, there's no argument there. But that wasn't good story telling. Expand

*Spoiler Alert

Thom Hardy reprises his role as Bain in George Miller's new installment to his series, Transformers, I mean Fast and the Furious, I mean Mad Max.

I got caught up in the hype on this one. Who doesn't want to believe that a franchise so expansive in its influence on subsequent franchises would continue to add to its groundbreaking repertoire. That hype propelled me far past the dooming first sequence in which Thom Hardy (god bless him) chews on a CGI lizard. That opening eerily reminded me of another franchise's fatal final entry: Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull.

Though the death knell was ringing clearly in my head, I shook it quiet. I mean, there was still so much to be hopeful for; Thom Hardy, Charlize Theron, and a group of women called breeders who are exactly who I would cast as breeders in my own life.

While Charlize Theron, one of the only true beauties to grace the screen with equal talent, happened to live up to the film's expectations, Thom Hardy looked like he was thrown on-set with no one directing him. He seemed to be making it up as he went. One scene, he spoke with a noticeable Australian accent, the next, American, the next, American with a few words in Australian. He was Bain, no he was Bronson, no he was the mumbly guy from Lawless. Well, he's always mumbly.

I mean, it seems like he was thrown into this movie and once he realized it was just some confused mash-up of 300, Sucker Punch, and Fast and the Furious, he decided to downplay his character as not to be spotted in this movie.

Actually, I don't think Max even needed to be in this movie. Not once did he do anything that was memorable in the line of character or plot development. He didn't want anything. He didn't want to be a good guy or a bad guy. He didn't want to get involved with Charlize Theron. He didn't want to enjoy the only spot with water or food in the whole **** of a desert wasteland. He just bewildered me.

In the end, this movie didn't really do much but give us another forgettable action movie attached to a once epic character.

Other hilarious ridiculousness:

Mad Max is an astoundingly good action movie in and of itself, and the fact that it passes the Bechdel test over and over is a fantastic bonus. I hope this movie goes a long way to showing that the reason fewer action movie-goers are womenMad Max is an astoundingly good action movie in and of itself, and the fact that it passes the Bechdel test over and over is a fantastic bonus. I hope this movie goes a long way to showing that the reason fewer action movie-goers are women isn't that we don't like explosions and car chases, it's that a lot of us like a plot we can be interested and invested in to hold the action scenes together. Really, I think that's the magic of Mad Max--it has a story that automatically piques my interest and sympathy by presenting a group of people attempting to escape a system that has brutally taken advantage of them their entire lives.

The matter of the film's depiction of disability is more problematic than its depiction of women. On the one hand, we have the disabled Charlize Theron, who is a complete badass, extremely capable, and whose disability is secondary to her character. But on the other hand, you have the depiction of the rulers in the city, whose disabilities are part of their grotesqueness, their fearsomeness. Around the time the movie came out, one redditor posted to /r/disability commenting on the experience for him of seeing, amongst all the people wearing prosthetics and makeup to render them grotesque, a person in a wheelchair with osteoimperfecta, his own disability--placing it on par with the terrifying invented conditions the movie portrays. That viewer's experience was not positive, and deserves to be recognized as an issue in the film's construction. As a sidenote, almost everyone in this dystopia seems to be white.

Despite that matter, I think this movie still represents a considerable amount of progress in the representation of women in mainstream, blockbuster movies. It's thrilling to see female characters participating actively in action sequences, rather than passively waiting to be rescued. The story is engrossing and exciting, the action never ever stops, and Tom Hardy's acting is incredible and subtle as always. I'll be shocked if this movie doesn't instantly become a classic of the genre.

It had many difficulties including being stuck in development hell for years, filming being repeatedly delayed, and difficulties in securing locations to shoot the film. Miller had plans to do the film as far back as 2003 with Gibson intended to reprise his role but took a further 10 years before tuition. But fortunately Miller persevered through all this turmoil to once again to return to the driver's seat of the franchise and create this masterpiece that is his best film yet.

At the start of the film we watch as Max (Tom Hardy) is captured by an army known as the War Boys ruled by a dictator known as Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne). Shortly after being captured one of Joe's soldiers called Furiosa (Theron) drives off in an armoured fuel truck with his wives so that they do not have to bare the children of a monstrous man and tries to drive to her childhood homeland. Because of this Joe sets out with an army to chase her down and Max is used as a blood bank attached to one of the chasing cars. Eventually after freeing himself he joins Furiosa and helps in fighting off the legions of War Boys sent by Joe in a non stop chase spanning the entirety of the film.

And when I say non stop chase, I mean non stop chase. From the very opening of the film to the end they don't go 5 minutes without some exciting action sequence with almost the entire scene being part of some chase or fight scene. Whilst under a lesser filmmakers control such action could be repetitive, Miller keeps it original by varying the action sequences and the beautiful scenery making it a masterpiece to watch.

Also the action is all so well made. In contrast to a lot of recent blockbusters like Fast and Furious, most of the film is done with practical effects and stunt work with CGI used very sparingly making for a much more high octane and realistic action sequences. They pull off everything in this film flipping cars, people dangling from or even jumping between speeding cars and even being engulfed flames. It's hard to tell who's more insane, the people coming up with these incredible stunts or those who take part in them. The scale of the stunts alone is impressive, but the consistent creativity and range of the stunts within the chase should keep any fan of action gripped to the screen.

On top of the mayhem of the chase sequences, the entire world is absolutely insane. It's strange to think that the same mind to create the likes of Happy Feet and Babe: Pig in the City also creates a world like this with the likes of woman having their breasts milked as a resource, a legion of pale thrash metal dressed soldiers and vehicles ranging from a tank plated gas truck to a barge led by a guitarist who shoots a flamethrower out of his guitar. It's a compliment to Miller's imaginative style that he can create such a bizarre whilst progressing the story and having constant action.

Beyond carrying out incredible stunts, the cast also give some impressive performances. Tom Hardy does a great job filling in the dusty leather jacket as Mad Max. We're quickly reintroduced to him at the beginning of the film so newcomers to the franchise are familiar with his back-story with Max explaining how he lost his family and blames himself, with their loss leaving him with nothing but the instinct to survive. Oddly this short explanation of his character is the most that Hardy speaks in the film. Instead of dialogue Hardy conveys most of his character through his look of exhaustion as a man who has been through far too much.

Then there's Theron as the metal armed and strong Furiosa who is amongst the likes of Sigourney Weaver in Aliens and Michelle Yeoh in Supercop as one of the best female action heroes. She often steals the show in the film as a more human character than Max, although just as dangerous as he is at one point even brawling him and showing herself to be just as deadly and resourceful as he is. There's a great deal of mystery to her back-story, with most of her history just being hinted upon. Also similarly to Hardy, Theron communicates so much through her hardened look showing herself to be the product of the destroyed world in which they live.

I just love everything in this movie. I love the detail in the way that all of the cars are adapted for the desert environment. I love the beautiful bright cinematography. I love that the chase lasting from start to end never for a second loses steam. Miller's imagination mixed with an incredible crew has created a glorious Symphony of madness and violence unlike any that had come before it. Apparently Hardy has already signed on for three more Mad Max films and with Miller's creative mind behind them they'll definitely be something to look forward to.

Mostly every character is flushed out and the action doesn't slow the movie down. The movie does take it's time to really get into the story, and that's a good thing. It introduces us to the world and characters Max will be interacting with. Furiosa is a very well rounded character and isn't just put in there to make the feminist crowed happy. George Miller wanted to create a believable character that happened to be a woman, not the other way around. She was defiantly treated as a person first and a woman second. The only complaint I have for the movie is that I would have liked for the main villain to have been more flushed out, but he isn't as bad as some movie villains these days. Everyone had a reason for being there, and the story works well because of it. All and all, Mad Max: Fury Road, will leave you satisfied while wanting more. 9/10. Expand

Bane masks (yeah he ruined a Batman also with his boring monotony) are rampant. too much heavy handed feminism spoils what otherwise is some of the most beautiful cgi photography and action scenes in a long time. Charlize Theron is fantastic as always, but an abhorrent plot--A tanker of breast milk--I'm not kidding, really makes it bad. I miss good, strong women like Tina Turner, who managed charm and grace along with strength. Other strong female characters who did it right were the love interest in Raiders of the Lost ark, and the young girl from the new True Grit remake. Expand

Great direction, and beautiful action that George Miller was never able to do in the 80s. - I just do not understand these haters. Explain to me please

Perfectly cast, directed and shot, with a harsh palette of colors and memorable imagery (the guitarist, eh?) Mad Max: Fury Road is a film that will stand on its own.

I love the attention to detail in the sets, props and costumes that make the movie so immersive. This is the first movie in while which I watched again to catch the little details I missed when I watched it the first time. Some of the grunted, screamed and muttered dialogue needs subtitles...but that just adds to the chaos and strangeness. Some of the back stories could have been fleshed out a bit and leave a lot to the imagination ....but guess that was also done on purpose.

The acting is pretty good from all concerned with Thomas Hardy being suitably grunty and mad..and Charlize Theron being just the right amount of bad-ass to be enjoyable.

All in all worth a movie ticket ....or two.

Revisiting the predecessors and imitators will feel like you're in some New Hampshire Bed-and-Breakfast where retirees sit around talking about antique whisk brooms. Sometimes, in a fit of pique, the film looks like “Dune" on many levels, but the latter should be so lucky. There's a hell of a haboob in it too. No stars for you if you don't know what a haboob is. Mad Max Fury Road is by far the best movie of the year and one of the best movies in history of cinema. An insane movie filled with amazing looking action, great acting and overall very intense. This movie has it all.
Everything about the way that the action is directed is perfect, all the time the main character is in danger and you never know how it will end. There's a guy playing the guitar during all the action, that's just freaking insane.
Tom Hardy does such an amazing job here,he fits on the movie perfectly and Charlize Theron is also very very good on the role. Also there's a certain amount of heart to the characters that makes you love them even more. It's not just brainless action,it makes sense and it's done beautifully.
George Miller is back to show us how to do action in the best way possible. He built this movie in practical effects and I appreciate that even more.Cars flipping and real explosion over the top makes the movie even more insane.
I really can't think of a negative about this movie so I'm definitely going to give it a perfect 5/5 rating and deservedly so.
Go see this movie if you still haven't,I personally can't wait to re-watch it and experience this amazing craziness all over again.

The entire movie is based around being in or on top of that damn semi truck. At one point (near the second half) they finally ditch the semi truck, and low and behold they decide to get back in and keep using it for the rest of the movie.
If your really into euro truck simulator, or continual plot holes, this will be right up yer alley.

Level of detail on the cars and locations-Beautiful! Side characters motivations and personalities were good.I could even understand the background of the villain and I'd be mad too if my pregnant woman was taken.
However the biggest flaw to the movie was the main character. I don't remember Mel ever being boring or as silent as this max. Granted that actor isn't know for dialogue in movies in my opinion, but okay. But it seems to me putting a mask on him at least gave him a reason for his silence - he must have forgot they took it off.
Overall I never felt a connection for max other than a nostalgic one and by the midway mark I was waiting for him to be more of a hero like the women in the movie were being. Nice work on that!
The cars had so much detail but I almost felt like I only got glimpses of that detail and all the fun ideas.
More than decent action movie but could've been more engaged to story.

If this were part one of a trilogy or something like that I would understand, but as a stand-alone, it's completely moot and a stuntshow rather than a movie. Out of the two hours of runtime, I'd say one hour and a half is just mindless action scene that don't lead to anything: there's no realisation, nor "redemption" for any of the characters. Because, contrarily as to what it might suggets, you can't really buy this sort of happy ending, considering the premises - also, why is this movie titled Mad Max when Max himself is practically a secondary character, who, if you haven't seen the previous films, appears to come out of the blue without any purpose and just a hint, through hallucinations, of a backstory.

Eye candy for action fans, but for the rest of us, it's useless.

The most important action movie of at least the last ten years, if not the last 15. First, let's cover some basic complaints:

"There's no plot/dialogue/character development to this movie"

Wrong! The movie just uses a thing called "subtext" to not bash your head in with needless exposition. I can tell you the origins of almost all of the main characters with only a few seconds of screen time. I can tell you the complexities of the plot, and the motivations of the characters simply by paying attention to the world around them.

"It's just a two hour car chase"

First off, yes, there is a lot of action. A LOT. You know what separates it from the average sup par summer blockbuster? It happens to be extremely well shot. The action is kinetic, yet shot steadily. It is brutal, the scenery, the art direction and the music are all used to organically move the story along, creating a constant state of tension and dread knowing the main characters NEVER have the advantage on the battlefield. That said, there is at least 30 minutes of the 120 not centered on action, so there are breaks.

"Too much Furiousa, not enough Max"

With the exception of the first one, Max is never the center of the drama. He is akin to Eastwood in the "Man with No Name" movies. He is a drifter (as established in the opening monologue) who wanders into conflict. Such was the way with the previous two movies, and he even has more lines in this than "The Road Warrior". That said, Furiosa is the most fleshed out, well played badass female leads since Ellen Ripley or Sarah Conner.

With those points covered, you REALLY need this movie in your life if you love action movies. I would go everyday if I could afford to, finding new things in the background as I made my way to my fourth viewing this weekend. It's safe to say I've probably already seen my number one movie this year.

Brilliant cinematography and action choreography.. Mad Max: Fury Road is completely overrated.

Make no mistake, its basically one long car chase whilst trying to masquerade itself as something more.

The plot itself is absurd and in its execution is inordinately action packed, to an extend you feel exhausted, fueling the desire for the movie to simply end. The theme of a post apocalyptic world is taken to its very extreme which ruined any hope of taking it seriously in the first place.

The subtle injections of feminism don't necessarily degrade the narrative, it does a good job of doing that on its own, but it does add to a more implausible scenario where you have women well passed their menopausal threshold engaging in activities that are normally accustomed to navy seals and bikie gangs.

Its a long, tedious and gratuitous bore... the taken 3, if you will.

The movie tries to have some mystic behind the immediate plot but it's all so muddled and vague that it hardly has a plot. At its best it's like a videogame: more than reasons the characters get objectives. Go here for this. The go here to do this.
I hated the first hour, but by the second I was more used to the setting, though I still didn't think it was good.

The aesthetics seemed poor to me, personally I think it's too cheap to just have filthy people and cars, it's unimaginative too stick scrap over a car and use the pretense of a post apocaliptic setting. I think it's lazy, and it actually reflects the source of the franchise as a movie with cheap production values.

Besides that, the plot, and the world itself, has a lot of holes. Or things that ae just for aesthetic reasons and make no sense. For example I was annoyed at how everything has a flamethrower when there's supposed to be scarcity of fuel. Or the unnecesary overuse of stunts, bike jumps and people climbing from one car to another, all that. The sad thing is the movie relies too much on that, leave that aside and there's not much left. In any case it's all just for show.

I think this movie is pretty overrated, I understand that people might like it because the whole cars theme is deeply rooted in the American car and road culture. In the end the characters themselves feel as if put together from old scrap.

It's a movie about survival, in Miller's beautiful visualized post-apocalyptic world. This really is a great refreshment to all the other so called "action movies" nowadays.

It's a crazy ride of insane, realistic and unique action at a grand scale. It got its classic moments with many references to the previous films, especially when it comes to the cinematography and the visual effects; which all are stunning! It's beautifully shot, the plot is extremely entertaining and the best aspect is the surprises throughout the film, so many crazy ones! This truly is an epic post-apocalyptic film, and it really is my favorite movie so far of 2015.

It's a bit overrated though, due to lack of long term entertainment when it comes to the action-sequences, but also because the movie didn't fit me to a 100 %. Everything else though; is EPIC! Wonderful and touching music, great characters, chemistry, spectacular action at a massive scale and a villain so great, and so terrifying and mysterious that he might be one of the best I've seen! The movie did satisfy my expectations, but it's a bit overrated.

Movie of the year so far (as of June) !
The editing style can be weird at time, but it is an artistic choice (and not a way to conceal bad acting or camera work) : a lot of speed up during action scene.
Fortunately or unfortunately, the focus is not enterely on Mad Max, and I would even say the main character is played by Charlize Theron.
Also, most of the movie is race scenes, but the story and characters are still develop through out the film : mostly by the action and reaction from each characters.
The acting is great for every actor, proving the director knows what he is doing. Thumbs up for Tom Hardy for sharing the emotions and reactions with mostly is eyes and facial expressions.
Plus, the sound design and the cinematography are exceptionals : similar to a Sergio Leone production (close-ups to see the face of the actors in-between large shots where it is possible to see all the action on screen, lengthy beautiful sequences, few dialogues, adventure driven story telling, ...).
The world is amazingly large and detailed making something fresh and interesting within a postapocalyptic desert.

People these days waste too much time over-analyzing every movie, song or novel as if they were homework assignments meant to be broken down and explored exhaustively.

For me its simple and always has been since I was a small child, does a movie (or song or novel or game etc..) pull me into its universe? If yes then it was a success, whether or not there was little or a lot of dialog, many sub plots or no plot at all.

I just want to be entertained when I consume media, I want to forget and escape for a little while, to me that is the point of art to begin with, to simply pull you into a universe not quite your own. This movie did that, I wasn't analyzing its character development or trying to decide on whether or not it was trying to convey some feminist message, if it had period correct clothing according to my physics professor...for 120 minutes I forgot that I was in a theater, I was in their world and rooting for Max and Furiosa...terrified of Immortan Joe and in awe of what was going on in front of me. I left the theater pumped, mind racing, wanting to go right back in and experience it again. I'm not entertained by mindless action, its not that, I felt that same way while watching Mulholland Drive, listening to A Boy Named Sue or reading Ghost World. Great fiction takes you into its world and doesn't let you leave until the closing credits.

The cinematography was nice and the production design was good but I don't see a very good movie in the rest. The story is weak, acting one dimensional, and a score i didn't get. Maybe its just me but the film didn't add up.

George Miller's long-awaited sequel is indeed a Masterpiece! If you put it in scale of 1-10, in average, it surely does manage to get over eight. And overall it brings a new flavour to the classic Mad Max series. Of Course Mel Gibson was great, no doubt, but so is Hardy!

The genius of this movie is that it doesn't explain things with monotonous contrived dialog, it shows us with exquisite carnage! And with 'action' and few words it manages to show us a completely fleshed out, deep and believable world. If fiction requires the suspension of disbelief on the part of the viewer, then it has failed... it is fiction's job to take us there, and this does, making the insane seem perfectly sensible. Expand

The only thing that I wish they had done to put it over the top would have been to tie in the original Toecutter villain from the first movie with the Immortan villain in Fury Road. Its the same actor (Hugh Keays-Byrne) for crying out loud!! There could have been all kinds of medical explanation given for how he survived getting obliterated by a semi to have to wear a re-breather mask and special armor. Otherwise it was still awesome. The character development from both sides of the conflict was interesting and gave the story much more depth. Well, more depth than one would expect from a 2 hour chase film. Enjoy! Expand

Seriously. Amazing acting, AMAZING directing; and, also, very unexpectedly, a very good, emotional story. You can really feel about this characters, and know what is their true purpose, but it doesn't show you unnecessary scenes. I mean, the story is excellent, and it's also controlled perfectly so it doesn't show you things that are going to make you yawn, just the right amount to keep the constant action always in a non-stop ride.
This is truly one of the best action movies I've ever seen, it may be the best only-action movie of the entire decade. When you enter there, the first thing you'll have to keep in mind is the fact that this film is absolutely nuts.

Why did it cost so much to make this movie? Even the numberless action scenes all looked the same. I have never been less impressed.

No story, no dialogue, no character development, no nothing. I had no idea who those running people were, and I didn't give the slightest damn. Some of them died, and I didn't feel sorry the tiniest bit.

It was my first Tom Hardy movie, and it's certainly my last. He was trying too hard with the throaty voice. He had no body language and no facial expressions. According to this movie, he's a very bad actor.

Charles Theron was OK, but even the fact that she's one of my favorites didn't make me care about her suffering at the end of the movie.

You can't just expect people to care about random people running around and dying.

Very bad. VERY VERY bad.

Anybody could walk away for 10-20 minutes coming right back and this story will be in the same place that they left it, not missing anything at all. Nothing changes in the 2hrs of movie, it is that same 5 minute plot rehashed for a whole 2 hous. Starts somewhere, then ending in exactly that same place, doing a big circle that has absolutely no filler inbetween. I wouldn't have minded if there was something vaguley different going from one-minute on to the next, there wasn't anything at all.

The action is that 3d splatter CGI, constantly repeated, same fires, same person who looks the same at being shot, another unroad worthy vechile getting junked. The mutants and bandits are all mostly identical apart from the rulers, who have no personality they are mutated so they must be evil. Max also had no personality, no backstory, no introduction. The electric guitar was pointlessly stupid.

Gimme a break. There is a reason why these people where nuked. A middle of the road to no where action film.

Fury Road is the 4th installment of the Mad Max series and is full of cars and trucks exploding...What more do you want?
But seriously Mad Max Fury Road is possibly the best Action movie to be released in the past few years. The Effects are amazing , most of witch being practical effects and only a few scenes using green screen. The use of mostly Practical effects adds to the level of realism and immersion with the film and it's great to see Gorge Miller stay true to the Original Mad Max. Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron do phenomenal jobs in there rolls and keep the action and story going well looking like total badasses. The plot in Fury Road is fairly straight forward, It's pretty much a escort mission across the dessert well being hunted down by crazy people, But leave it to George Miller to make that extremely interesting with it's own twists and surprises. If you were a fan of the original Mad Max's I'm sure you will love Fury Road but if you are a new comer to the series you may not fully understand whats happening but most likely still enjoy what your seeing. There are a few slow/corny scenes in the movie that fell slightly out of place but other then those few the pacing is quite steady and good.
All in all go see Fury Road, you will most likely not regret it and especially if you are able to see it in theaters.

Will those reviewers still think Fury road is any good by next week when they've forgotten this movie and woken up to reality?

What a disappointment!! George Miller how could you have come up with a movie this bad? Ok Max got away with just 17 lines in MM2 but the movie had earth and substance! Tom Hardy reduces Max to a boring mute idiot, sidelined by Charlize Theron who usually does ok in movies. Not this one unfortunately. The bad guys in MM1 and MM2 were real characters and real people. Everyone in the film had a purpose, a reason to be. No one in this film is connected to any part of anything. Its a totally disconnected silly stage act that insults the viewer on a number of levels .
As for the vehicles- ok its better than nothing ( thunderdome) but they are foolish, unreal, disneyesque, and absurd - almost like trying to impress an adult with a transformer toy. They wouldn't last a day in a real apocalyptic landscape, prompting too many questions like why and how?
The plot -They go somewhere and turn around and go back again. Driving miss daisy with a bit more horsepower, but less storyline. And a few cirque de soleil clowns thrown in who do some zany acrobatics."oooh I heard the stunts were real and not cgi"
What character development ? Zilch! why were the baddies so bad? I don't know or really care. They certainly aren't real or menacing like the humungous. They don't create an iota of tension or a modicum of memorability
This movie is the diametric opposite to its relatively austere Aussie dirt outback heritage, which is replaced by fake yellow fantasy sandstorms direct from the mummy returns - Why were they driving in there again? Don't ask yourself these questions as there are no reasons for anything in Fury Road.

The feminism is a contrived twist that does nothing to improve the film, as no characters are developed male or female.

If you can ignore the lack of acting, plot or story, what is left is 2 hours of whacky silly nonsense and pointless races/pyro/ explosions. . Unlike the previous films fury road is a hollow movie that betrays its genuine fan base and treats the rest of the audience like a bunch of morons with A.D.D. Sadly its been such a long time coming but consigned as an opportunity lost.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie is ridiculous. I have no idea why it's so highly rated by Tomatoes and why everyone seems to love it. It's a two-hour car chase. It's not even clever or well-done by action standards; it tries to be stylized but just ends up looking cheap, and not awesome. The effects are obvious and not well done. It was really, really dull.

I was so bored after the first 40 minutes--which was just mindless violence with the barest of plot flecks--that I pondered leaving.

I swaer to god when they turned around to go back to the Citadel I almost groaned, because I knew it would be the exact same as the first half of the movie, just in the opposite direction. And it was.

And the ending couldn't have been more of a "we're making a sequel so this is a non-ending" if it tried.

Don't get me wrong. I love action movies. Indiana Jones, The Matrix, V for Vendetta, Terminator 2, even something like Dark Knight, these are all action movies that are in the 90% review range. Mad Max is a pile of garbage compared to these, and doesn't deserve to be as highly rated, not even for the "fun factor". It's just bland and uninteresting.

I think they were not a realistic portrayal of a dystopian future due to the over-the-top car chases with over-the-top vehicles.

Premise: Max is captured by a warlord but is soon latched on to the front of a car in pursuit of the trusted oil tanker truck driver of the warlord, Furiouso (the driver), who has gone rogue and is attempting to flee from the warlord for some reason.

Pros:
1. Almost non-stop action. Great stunts.
2. Great acting from the well known actors. They even managed to get a couple of catwalk models to act well!
3. Great cinematography. Amazing scenes.
4. Thought it would be ultra violent, like many part of Spy (the film), but it wasn't. It was unnecessarily over-the-top in Spy.

Cons:
Can't think of one at this moment.

Score: 5/5 (no half score). Worth watching in the cinema and buying the DVD. I hardly ever give a 5/5. This is the movie of the year, for now.

It is one of those films that, years from now, people will ask each other if they saw it on the big screen when it came out and lament that they missed it. The term "masterpiece" gets used far too often, but I can think of no other word to accurate describe this sublime amalgamation of pulpy multiplex movie action and masterful technical film-making. From its lavish production design, to its exquisite cinematography, tight, disciplined direction, exceptional stunt and physical effects work, sharp editing, and its brilliant, booming soundtrack, Fury Road is a joy to behold for anyone who is lover of the art of film and/or a lover of action.

In many ways, Fury Road is the anti-blockbuster; its almost as if an indie arthouse film murdered a Hollywood blockbuster and is wandering around wearing its skin as a disguise. Nowhere is it's daring, atypical approach more apparent that when one considers its narrative design of minimal dialogue with a strong focus on visual storytelling, and its surprisingly subversive narrative, which is biting in its criticisms of toxic masculinity, capitalism, and humanity's disregard for its dependence on our environment.

Fury Road's other great strength is it characters, who all struggle to find purpose and a meaning for existence in a world gone mad. A truly outstanding performance by Charlize Theron as Imperator Furiosa serves as the focus around which the rest of the film is built, and what a performance it is. Theron conveys an array of emotions with few words and a masterful display of physical acting, saying more with her eyes than many actors could with a page of dialogue. Tom Hardy is also highly skilled in this style of acting, making him an ideal choice for the taciturn and slightly deranged Max, and if one is being honest, he works better in this role when he doesn't have to speak at all. Nicholas Hoult is also outstanding as Nux, who is both the heart and humour of the film, and it is his character that has the strongest arc across the narrative.

It's deep ideas, interesting characters portrayed by skilled actors, presented in such an unusual and thoughtful way, combined with its exceptional visual presentation, make Fury Road a truly significant piece of film-making that takes its place among the truly great action films ever made.

This movie is an idiot’s delight.

One of the nice things about the original Mad Max trilogy is that the movies got progressively better.
Unfortunately, Fury Road has regressed on all counts. The story line is essentially a repeat of Thunder Road, which makes it predictable. The dialogue is pathetic. (The first few words out Charlize Theron’s mouth are a big clue.) The movie becomes increasingly tedious as you begin to realize that what you are watching is a 107 minute long car chase. The fight scenes are unoriginal, unless you happen to think that a guy sitting on top of a long bamboo pole strapped to a car, that rocks back a forth like a metronome is creative genius. The bad guys are a bunch of brainwashed lemmings. Max has become a zombie and is nearly empathy proof. Numerous parts of the movie are aggravatingly illogical. (How do those old woman living in the desert survive? Where do they get the gas for their motorcycles?)

The original Mad Max movie was hardly great film making. It was a low budget, foreign film, and the American version used voice overs. The story line was essentially a Dirty Harry movie set in a post-apocalyptic Australian Outback. But Mel Gibson’s character was compelling, and you found yourself rooting for him to survive and avenge his family’s death.

The sequel (Thunder Road) also had a rather basic story line, (the good guys have an oil well and the bad guys want it), and there wasn’t much dialogue. The characters weren’t well developed, but they were interesting. The good guys were quirky, and the bad guys were extreme. They weren’t your run of the mill sociopaths, they were nuts, so crazy they made you laugh, and they had great costumes, too. They wore make-up, sported Mohawk haircuts, and dressed in punk leather bondage clothing.

The third installment (Beyond Thunder Dome) was another action feast for the eyes, but the movie finally moved beyond campy. It had a complex story line, original fight scenes, some actual dialogue, and a musical score to boot. It was, far and away the best movie of the trilogy.

I recommend Fury Road only if you’ve seen and enjoyed every Fast & Furious movie ever made.
