I'd call it a music video. I'd call it violence porn. I'd call it a perfect example of what current day movie making has become, an empty room full of echoes. Mad Max: Fury Road makes zombie flick Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead seem like the Casablanca of the 21st century. And most of all it reveals the Academy Awards to be a sad, pathetic joke.

Mad Max: Fury Road isn't so much a film as a music video, as it has lots of choreography and hardly any story worth notice.

The fact that I still love this movie is a good indication that it can stand on it's own. The story and characters are simple, but effective, and I can still get a good idea of what's going on despite not much being explained. The movie is also basically a 2-hour car chase with some of the best action in any movie ever. That alone is enough to make me love it. Expand

Within this world exist two rebels on the run who just might be able to restore order. There's Max, a man of action and a man of few words, who seeks peace of mind following the loss of his wife and child in the aftermath of the chaos. And Furiosa, a woman of action and a woman who believes her path to survival may be achieved if she can make it across the desert back to her childhood homeland. Expand

It's probably the most unique Blockbuster movie I've ever seen. The story has Minimal background and full fledged action. It's fast paced, violent and simplistic. It throws out some of the awkward action and overall movie cliches, like a protagonist, romance, character development, dialogue, story background, etc.

On a technical level this movie is Brilliant. The cinematography is on point and makes all these violent bloody scenes look strangely beautiful. The special effects are realistic too, Miller just knows how.

I really liked it and this movie does get a lot of hate - which is understandable. But calling this movie (and the people who enjoy this movie) moronic, pointless, stupid, etc. is just not right. This movie is brilliant in it's own amazing way - and if can't see that, don't insult the people who do.

If anyone says they like this movie, then I'm sorry but I ain't listening to any other movie critiques you have. There's no tension, over-dramatic characters that turn into white noise after a few minutes, and the slowest plot development I've ever seen in a movie, it takes more than half the movie to even know what the hell is going on and whose side you should even be on. I hate this movie with a passion but props to the low-standard individuals who found some enjoyment out of it. Expand

It's a 2 hour long car chase ... that's it. There's barely a plot to speak with, what plot there is makes no sense because there is no backstory. There's no reason for us to care about ANY of these characters: we don't know who any of them are or why they matter. The reasons behind the entire chase ... which is the majority of the film... are barely touched upon. I had to google to find out who Immortan Joe was, the breeders, the chroming, literally everything in the film because NONE of it was explained. This is what passes for a film now. Zero story, no character development, but if you throw in a whole lot of the right kind of action people just go nuts for it. I'm seeing critics giving this film bonus points for not doing all the effects using CGI. Whatever happened to writing guys? Script? Plot? Dialogue? Do these things mean nothing anymore? People call it the best film of the year: why? How does this movie possibly merit praise that high? Are we seriously such a low attention-span country that now even our critics can't be expected to hold cinema to any bars save good special effects, cool costumes, and "colorful characters"? I'm so disappointed. Expand

cinematography is wonderful, and movie's editing is good too. very shocking!
but there isn't any story and the symbols are full of slogan that they don't useful for the considering of Mad Max. so if we change cinematographer and editor, this movie is going to touch a big downfall because Mad Max doesn't have a perfect form, it's trapped into the technical items and glorious framing. the characters have good shapes but miller can't polish their Inner personality. so we can see a lot of shocking scenes full of imperial framings but there isn't any story so screenplay falling down from a large position of technique without any notion and without ant dram. overall we shocked but for second!

So when the perpetually delayed Fury Road finally released, you bet your ass I went to see it, and I was rewarded with probably the best damn action movie I've ever seen. It's not just well written, acted or scored, It's simultaneously a testosterone-fueled explosive extravaganza and the ultimate feminist power fantasy. Max is not the main character here. He is, as he always was, a drifter. This movie is about Furiosa, and the wives, taking hold of their destiny by the balls and riding it to flaming victory. I came for the cars and the violence, I'll admit. But I must watch like fifty action movies a year and I honestly forget 49 of them. Fury Road is the one I remember. Expand

I respect all opinions no matter what, but I can't grasp on how many negative reviews are on here. I recommend this movie to anyone, no matter if you have seen the original Mad Max trilogy or not. Now the only stupid part is where Max has to give *spoiler* a blood transfusion. That is a terrible idea unless you have the same blood type, and chances of that are next to nothing. Except the ludicrous over the top high octane purposeless 1 hour and 45 minutes of action sequences (This is something people apparently like?) it has nothing going for this lifeless shallow Best Picture nominee..... Ugh. This movie is probably the worst best picture nominee since god knows how long ago.

Let's face it, compared to the originals 2015's Requel/Seboot Mad Max: Fury Road is story wise disgraceful, because it barely has any, the only thing this movie does have is purposeless and lifeless action scene upon chase sequence upon explosions upon crazy characters and other ridiculous stuff, the story is non existence (The things they could've done in 2015 and with all the resources George Miller had available, they did this?!?), the characters are stail and bland, the performances were bad because it mostly consisted of stares and grunting, the dialogue it did have was kindergarten level laughable, and overall as a fan of the originals this was just a massive disappointment and a disgrace towards the Academy for nominating it 10 times.

Of Course i'm not here to solely hate, so what were the positive things?
The score was great (why wasn't this nominated), the costume/production design was impeccable, and the use of practical effects was sort of impressive.

As a final note, i've seen this movie once in the theatre, i liked half of it after that it got incredibly boring because it pretty much is a 1 hour and 45 minute car chase with cringe worthy moments in between because George Miller thought it should have at least SOMETHING of a dramatic element in this. I wanted to watch it again because of how high it was rated after looking it up on IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes. To my full surprised even Critics were raving about this. HOW? So i wanted to watch it again, but i didn't want to give Miller more of my money and i didn't want to go through that painful experience again.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A late review now that all the ludicrous praise has subsided. As a preliminary, I watched all the previous Mad Max movies again. At one point in my youth, I thought The Road Warrior was one of the best films ever but wow; these movies did not age well at all. Fury Road is in general an improvement, but when you get down to it, the cars do most of the acting. The music is a massive improvement over Brian May's and Maurice Jarre's crimes against musical humanity, but Tom Hardy has about as much charisma as a turnip. As a straight-up action film, it's watchable and holds interest, and is certainly better than the anschluss of super-hero movies currently stinking up the marquees with no sign of relief. The amount of high praise heaped on this movie however is baffling.

Just as aside, there have been some complaints that Fury Road caters to Political Correctness with its emphasis on the ass-kicking chick and the oppression of the "breeders" by men. I'm as down on SocJus gibberish as any sensible person is, but in this flick it is not really noticeable. At a critical point, Max persuades the group to turn back and fight. Letting the white, heterosexual male make such a plot-turning suggestion is a big no-no among the perpetually aggrieved so if you want I-am-woman-hear-me-roar stuff, try the Alien series.

This is for me a 9.6 xD the only bad thing I have to say about is that max should have had some bigger role on the story and the flashbacks feel unnecessary since it doesn't do anything for him or the movie.

But besides that amazing action, they gave borderline breathing space for the action which is just enough to don't turn you off, the story is completely distiled to it's essence and much is told visually which is amazing achievement, the music is 10/10, the movie is incredible satisfying and you feel it was worth more than the ticket price.

This is a masterpiece for me!

"My world is fire and blood."
So begins "Fury Road", a non-stop no holds barred thrill monster of a movie, one that never compromises or sacrifices its own integrity for anything.

The fourth instalment in the Mad Max franchise, it is an Australian and American venture produced by Kennedy Miller Mitchell, RatPac-Dune Entertainment and Village Roadshow Pictures. The film is set in a future desert wasteland where gasoline and water are scarce commodities. It follows Max Rockatansky (Tom Hardy), who joins forces with Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron) to flee from cult leader Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne) and his army in an armoured tanker truck, which leads to a lengthy road battle. The film also features Nicholas Hoult, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Riley Keough, Zoë Kravitz, Abbey Lee, and Courtney Eaton.

--Critical reception:

-Mad Max: Fury Road received widespread critical acclaim. Review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes gives the film a 97% approval rating and rating average score of 8.8 out of 10 based on 348 reviews. The site's consensus reads, "With exhilarating action and a surprising amount of narrative heft, Mad Max: Fury Road brings George Miller's post-apocalyptic franchise roaring vigorously back to life." On Metacritic, which assigns a normalised rating, the film has a score of 90 out of 100 based on 51 critics, indicating "universal acclaim". CinemaScore polls reported that the average grade cinema audiences gave the film was a "B+" on an A+ to F scale. Some critics have named Mad Max: Fury Road one of the greatest action films ever made.

-The film has also been praised by feminist critics on several fronts, including the dominant role taken by Furiosa and the range of atypical female roles including the wives and the gun-toting Vuvalini.

--Sequels:

-In 2011, Miller and McCarthy found during the writing process for Fury Road that they had enough story material for two additional scripts. One of these, entitled Mad Max: Furiosa, had already been completed, and Miller hoped to film it after the release of Fury Road. In March 2015, during an interview with Esquire, Hardy revealed that he was attached to star in four more Mad Max films following Fury Road. In May 2015, Miller told Wired: "Should Fury Road be successful, I've got two other stories to tell." Later in May, Miller revealed that plans for the sequel had changed and the next instalment will instead be titled Mad Max: The Wasteland. In October 2015, Miller revealed in an interview with TopGear.com that they had two scripts for sequels which they ended up with during the writing process. Later in October in an interview with Digital Spy, he revealed that Furiosa won't appear in the sequel and clarified that Mad Max: The Wasteland is just a working title for the sequel. Miller reaffirmed his intent to continue the franchise after reports to the contrary surfaced following an interview in January 2016.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. George Miller’s “Mad Max Fury Road” is a film that received critical acclaim from reviewers, and audience alike, after its release May 15th, 2015. Having never seen a single film in the Mad Max series I was hesitant to watch it: especially considering today’s hyper commercialized, over exposure trend practiced in the marketing of new releases, especially action films. After months of avoiding the film, I finally used this essay prompt as an excuse to see it on New Year’s Day; I was pleasantly surprised. Writing a cinematic review for readers within the world’s leading institution for film studies is daunting for even the best trained. Hopefully this neophyte attempt at sharing my impressions will hold your interest. Here goes!
After a long absence of viewing Miller’s work I was immediately taken by the depth and breath of creativity that could only stream from a pleasantly, twisted mind. (This is meant as a complement!) He brings to life an array of themes visually and emotionally that have turned even this mostly critical and disappointed fan of today’s action films into a Miller fan. He brilliantly blends the exotic with the mundane, the chaotic with the calm, brutality with grace. Within moments I became completely immersed in his vision of the post-apocalyptic world: actually feeling hope emerge as the madness of brutality unfolded. There was not a moment in the film where I felt disconnected from the viewing experience. He drew me completely into the world. Once there, I simply floated away into the story. Miller held my focus one hundred percent of the time. This immersion was accomplished through the brilliance of Miller’s direction, the creativity of his story telling and his interesting use of specific production techniques.
First thing I noticed was the personality of the desert and how its changing mood both enhanced and drove the story forward. Most of the time the desert sands were a vibrant orange, instead of a dull tan or muted brown, off set against a unique sky. Robin egg blue sky, less green, more toward orange on the color spectrum, created a sense of harmony, peace, unity whenever it was matched with the sands. I believe Miller purposefully chose this coloring to create a slightly under-stimulating canvas upon which the viewer’s attention would focus on the intricacies of the action. This particular tone and hue of blue is incredibly peaceful and inviting, bringing a sense of hopefulness, almost cheerfulness, to the experience of the drama, thereby subconsciously reinforcing themes of hope and redemption. This is especially noticeable when Max first encounters the escaped brides as they stand on the sands, clothed in soaking wet free flowing cream linen, silhouetted against this robin egg sky.
Another major mood change in the desert was created with an enormous sand storm. The blue sky was literally rolled over lost when a giant wave of sand. Initially we see the wave as a blend of common desert colors: goat’s cream, turmeric and cow dung. However, as the wave descends over the chase, obscuring the sight of the characters, it transforms into a passionate, dense red that increases the emotional experience of the segment. Red as an overriding color of the segment signifies blood being literary and figuratively spilt.
Perhaps the most definitive mood change was when the desert was completely filtered in blue for a night scene. Blue is often associated with sorrow which is the sadness that the world has. The blue tint is a visual representation of the sorrow of all of the victims and the morning of world who used to be full of life. The first use of the blue tint was when our heroes traveled to the “Green Place”. It was devoid of life when it used to be plentiful. The blue shows how the word morns for the loss of the little life that was still there.
Miller dress certain characters in white to have a play on the concept of purity. The War Boys are covered in white ashes to give themselves a sense of holiness. As a combination of all colors, White is meant to bring a sense of holiness which is ironic considering the war boy’s unholy actions. The brides also are dressed in white to give reinforce the role they play in their society. The irony is taken affect as the color associated with virginity even though they exist solely to make more war boys.
As Well as any other film, the cinematography and the editing are important tools for a filmmaker to visually tell the story. The editing in the beginning is sped-up to reflect the insanity of the title character. In the beginning of the film, Max has lost his ability to reason and acts purely on instinct. The lack of organized thoughts shows he is acting on his animalistic tendencies. The editing eventually slows down as Max regains his sanity after he successfully rescues Furiosa and the brides.
The film uses a wide selection of wide angle close-ups which work to set the mood. It makes the viewer stare at the dark side of the apocalypse right in the face with no chance to escape. The scenes in the dessert rely on after the use of wide shots to show the size and emptiness of the world left after nuclear war.

The film has what i would consider to be one of the most overrated story lines of all time. Most of the characters are never fully developed, and this includes the Main Lead. If the main character was not the titular Max you would have absolutely no reason to care about him. Furiosa is developed the most out of all the characters in fact she hijacks the story so often I started to think this was just a movie they threw max in to. Honestly I found the story ultimately boring and a standard predictable ride for a traditional good vs. evil flick. Does this mean you shouldn't watch the film, No, it still remains to have incredible set pieces and very entertaining events spring throughout despite the lackluster Characters and plot. Expand

It is all the worse because I consider the first two films in the installment classics; especially Road Warrior. These films had a visceral emotion that, in retrospect, I had no right to expect from anything made with today's technology. What is strikingly shocking is that this film does offer some "real" stunts...but they're worthless unless you appreciate them in a vacuum. The movie is a complete mess: Max is a eunuch, unable to muster even a single moment of greatness, a single line of dialogue worth remembering, or even a reason to pull for him. The rest of the characters are completely lacking of development; and women are either used and abused, or superheroes (how, we don't know) that have survived in the wasteland...waiting for what? Charize to come along and lead them? It's absolute garbage, that leads to nowhere..over and over again. Watch a real movie: Road Warrior, The Good the Bad and The Ugly; hell, watch El Mariachi (I'm serious)....and have fun with two+hours of your life. Expand

The scenario is set mysteriously with the protagonist hunted by his past, making the movie very promising, when he arrives to the city it’s presented the context of this post-apocalyptic world ruled by a tyrant; however when they get to the road the whole thing falls apart. The plot is meaningless, simple and at one point becomes incoherent; the worst thing is that George Miller tries to hide it with an opulent artillery of explosions. It’s true that action cinema is all about that, but what makes an action movie stand out from the rest is the thing that sustains the significance of the explosions and fights. Mad Max is indisputably a technical achievement, highlighting the make-up; this and Charlize Theron are definitely the only good items in the feature. Expand

To the same **** who said it had no story, this movie is focused on CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT, not the story (and character development is always weak on ACTION movies that try to have a story).

Everything this movie TRIES to do is perfect: The character development, the sociology, the action, the insanity, the violence, the redemption and survival dramas, the social critics, the critics to religion fanatism and the feminism, so I can only give it a 10. If you didn't see what I just mentioned in the movie, watch it one more time, but paying closer attention. Come on, you are not a retard, you can think a little bit by yourself.

I wasn't disappointed. Now, it was a bit short on plot but as a spectacle, it was stunning. The action scenes were amazingly done, and when they move away from the action to focus on the story for a while, it's no less compelling. Now, don't watch it expecting a completely original, thought-provoking masterpiece that will leave you thinking about life. Watch it expecting a fun, visually stunning action movie with interesting characters (though some are a little underdeveloped) and so much action, you won't believe it was directed by a 70-year-old (let alone, the 70-year-old who directed "Happy Feet"!). All in all, a good movie. Expand

Quite an amazing action flick, despite having little-to-no story or dialogue. This seems like only the beginning for this character and was well-deserving of so many best film lists in 2015.

Por película como esta, el cine vale la pena. Mad Max es una obra de arte, la falta de diálogos es recompensada con actuaciones impresionante. Hardy y Theron, junto a Miller hacen algo digno de ver.

There is no reason this movie should be as acclaimed as it is. This borders on bad, not genius.

It had little substance, and was more of a spectacle, which I guess is good too. However, It thought because of this the character development was a little weak, and although fun, the action was relentless. Some of it was needlessly disgusting and unnecessary.

In short, I thought the movie was fun and visually stunning, but not much to it, and it's not the film you come out of and talk/think about. Hard to believe it was directed by a seventy-year-old.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What an awful movie, I've seen terrible movies before, but this one it's definitely in my Top 10 worst movies I've seen. It's just a car chase, they leave the first place, to another, running away from the bad guy, then the other place it's not what they remembered and they're disappointed, they come back to the start and kill the bad guy in the process. Almost no dialogue, the unnecessary guitar player in every other take, and that's it, Mad Max does almost nothing, he just shows up and says nothing for the entire movie. Ah, and some pregnant girls appear. I don't see why for people it's the best movie ever. Just because a movie has a car chase, lots of guns and lots of crazy people in it, doesn't make it a great movie, let alone a decent movie, just awful and with no significant story line whatsoever. I love movies that can suck me into there world, without forcefully showing me everything, with overly long opening tracking shots, or a lot of exposition. Mad Max certainly doesn't have a lot of one of those. If you wrote down all of TomI love movies that can suck me into there world, without forcefully showing me everything, with overly long opening tracking shots, or a lot of exposition. Mad Max certainly doesn't have a lot of one of those. If you wrote down all of Tom Hardy's dialogue, it would roughly be the length of a couple of greeting cards. He takes after the Terminator, in T-2. Only interested in completing his goals, working with the few words he needs. Until of course he comes across people who don't speak in grunts, and he must expand his vocabulary. The great things about this movie is that it knows how you are suppose to use CGI for action sequences. Most action movies feel that bigger is better, and immediately construct a 30 story metal larva eating the Himalayas. I know computer animation takes a lot of work and takes enormous effort, but the sods who make animators go through all this are the ones I blame. Mad Max: Fury Road understands that CGI is the frosting on the cake. Making every bit of car crash feel more crisp, which works because they actually made a car crash first. If you just make a car crash using nothing but CGI, you are just making your cake with nothing but frosting. Yes we all like frosting but what's wrong with the cake batter you were using Michael Bay.
Just going to move on from that paragraph now, it was getting out of hand. If you haven't heard this yet the action in Mad Max 4(y Road) is quite good. Oh that's what you have been hearing since it came out? okay let's talk about other things. Have you heard about Furiosa? Yes? What about the flaming guitar guy? All the time? Well there isn't much more to talk about really. Mad max isn't exactly charming his way through the movie, but he helps fit with the movie's identity of broken consciousness. It's true that his actions are mostly based on survival, so he doesn't talk much because of this. He communicates through looks, like when he is trying to snipe an incoming vehicle, he does these little inflections that indicate he knows that Furiosa is the better choice to use the sniper. Little things like that make the movie. Yes the movie feels like pulse-pounding action, but it actually takes a good amount of pauses to let you breath. Once you have your breath you're ready to go. It would be hard to make this pacing not feel schizophrenic, but George Miller does it. George Miller feels like he deserves a lot of the credit.
The story for this was created using storyboard; this technique is often associated with animated features. This helped them tell their story through visuals with little words. It also gave use some of the best action sequences ever put to film. Really what makes the action feel like a whole other level is everything surrounding it. Pole dancing warriors with exploding sticks wouldn't quite feel right in say the Fast & Furious movies. It needs a production design that shows a world where SNM, post-apocalyptic, flame obsessed nuts rule the world. Also watching a weirdo spray chrome in his mouth is only right when we watch the bizarro culture it came from.
Overall the film provides us with a fascinating, eccentric, but still cruel world for great, or decent characters to blow each other up in. The action is thee past only in the hands of the Mad Max world.

As a fan of the original Mad Max movies, this was a tremendous disappointment. As others have said, basically a two hour chase scene. Yes, the vehicles and stunts are creative and impressive to look at and the director does a masterful job with all the visuals. Still, the bare bones plot which exists is incomprehensible, and I'm familiar with the back story. Can't see how you would have any idea what's going on without that prior knowledge. While there is at least minimal character development with Furiosa, there is almost none for Max. Neither actor does much acting, unless you consider endless angry, brooding looks as acting. Check out The Revenant to see a fabulous current performance from Hardy, and Monster for an acting tour de force from Theron, then compare that work with this. Seeing this movie garner 10 nominations made me think there must be something special, but now I'm just dumbfounded at the Academy voters. Expand

It's as if they took the last 20 minutes of Road Warrior (a spectacular film) and made it into a 2 hour movie. No build, no suspense. Nothing. I'm not even sure that the main character IS max as his random, nonsensical flashbacks can't even be tied to any of the previous films. The visuals were wonderful, the cinematography great, and the action was above average, for sure, but it takes more than that to make a great action film. See the aforementioned Road Warrior, Terminator 2 (or Terminator 1), Aliens, Predator, The Matrix. All those movies had gripping plots, intense suspense, good builds, great character development, in addition to amazing visuals and top notch action. All classics. People try to tell me that this movie was about 'visual storytelling'. Sure, it had that. But it was like a few tiny pieces of meat on a mostly bare skeleton. This movie had the FEEL of classic mad max but none of the soul. Is this what american cinema has come to these days? Just how dumb and easily pleased is the average critic and metacritic user? If you're reading this, stop using this site, it's worthless. Think for yourself because these guys on here haven't a clue about good movies (or music, or video games). Expand

I'd like to say I watched every single minute and gave it a truly fair chance, but it was a bit like watching X games. I get tired of those after the first few neat tricks. This was predictable and boring after the first three things blew up. I thought that a story might be developing with the breeders, but they ended up just being boring passengers. I truly respect everything the special effects people did, but truthfully---it was a bit like watching fireworks--fun for the first 10 minutes, but then if you have anything else to do, you usually go do that instead. Also--why in the world is anyone saying that Charlieze Theron is doing brilliant acting work here? Where? When? I've seen this actress tear up the screen and she is one of my very favorites, but in this? Sorry---not seeing it or feeling it. Expand

Miller uses technological advances to make an adventure that is as big and epic as ever. Celebrating the spectical of film with elaborate practical effects and gorgeous action scenes. Amidst it all is the idea of hope and struggling to keep fighting in a world where there isn’t much. This film is popular for a reason it’s that good. Essential viewing. Glad this film got popularity in the theater and beyond because in the years’ to come I feel that this film will be hailed as a masterpiece. I felt beaten and exhausted (as George Miller may have intended) well before the end. And I could not turn off my mind; too much disbelief, not enough suspension. Has any other film had as great a difference between the male and female characters? The very intense and busy action sequences were easy to follow, not confusing blurs as so many are these days, and the human (collateral?) damage was not overdone (no slow motion with torrents of blood). The trailers do prepare you for MM:FR, except for the subjective length of this very long 2 hour movie. Expand

This movie has some of the most amazing action sequences i have seen in a movie (period), it's mostly practical effects which is awesome, the stunts are great, the explosions are real...but sadly the writing is GARBAGE..The story is basicaly let's go from point A to point B and then from point B to point A again. Of course if you don't mind the mediocre writing you will fully enjoy this movie, otherwise it's just a 2 hour driving destruction porn but truly masterfully made from the original creator of the series. :) Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Admittedly late to the game here, but I honestly can't see where all these 10s and 100s come from. At 70, I guess George had one more Mad Max episode left in home, but this was nothing more than a an utterly incomprehensible wild romp. Fury Road is nothing more than a video game brought to the screen with its threadbare plot, not to mention clothing on our five fetching damsels in distress, on which the plot loosely hinges like their chastity belts. What little story there is might be seen as poetic in a post-apocalyptic sort of way. I have to hand it to Charlize Theron for trying to rise above the horribly malevolent nature of this film and give us some sense of hope in the arid violent future George Miller imagines. However, even she couldn't save this film from itself. There were some moments of dark humor, such as the aging biker chic gang, the last to hold onto the seeds of a Utopian dreamworld. The only suspense was whether this green world still existed, but apparently the only thing left was one desolate tree that didn't look strong enough to pull a dune buggy much less a war rig out of the quagmire. I guess it had very deep roots. It's just an inglorious ride through the Australian outback with some wild-eyed visual effects along the way, as if George has been dabbling in magic mushrooms. It's fun to a point, but the sad part is you really don't care what happens to anyone in this movie. Expand

Cons:
1. Zero character building. I know it's an action flick, but I need something to grab onto. Who is this little girl he keeps having flashbacks to? Maybe you need to see the originals?

2. Monotonous. The car chase is pretty awesome for the first bit of it, but after an hour of the same exact thing, it gets quite boring.

3. Way too over the top. I knew what I was getting into with this, so I have no problem suspending disbelief, but the dude with the big amps blasting heavy metal was just too much.

If I want to watch things blow up for 2.5 hours I'd rather watch the Transformers movies.
