Mad Max is great because of it's ability to keep you on the edge of your seat when you're watching two hours of people driving through the desert. The acting is great and the setting is breathtaking, it has a good script with action that doesn't ruin the dialog (*cough, cough* Michael Bay.) This is a very good film, and I know for a fact this movie will be remembered for decades to come. Expand

The first clear-cut masterpiece of cinema to hit 2015 is Mad Max: Fury Road.

This is a revelation that took me some time to process, for a number of reasons. I’d never seen a Mad Max film before Fury Road and had a slightly apprehensive (though completely unfounded) stigmatic preconception of the franchise as an entertaining exercise in style set to a dystopian backdrop. Even after gorging upon the first few trailers and their overflow of setpieces, I had already pegged Fury Road with almost complete foolish certainty as mere entertainment striving to compensate it’s requisite zeitgeist artifice in creative execution (basically, another summer blockbuster).

Boy, was I off base. I might as well have been spouting blasphemy. Mad Max: Fury Road is an unheralded landmark in action cinema.

I have now witnessed the chaos in it’s entirety twice and, while repeated viewings unearth initially overlooked insight about a work both good and bad, I still have the unfettered urge to see it again in theaters, maybe even for a fourth time.

Where to start? Well, Fury Road is a confection of such sheer magnitude that it is truly difficult to process my overflowing wealth of praise into a cohesively formatted analysis. Granted, I have gathered a few necessary complaints, both microscopic and less so, but the easiest place to begin would be the most tenacious element of Fury Road: the action.

DEAR GOD. Not since **** I can’t remember when) has a parade of such ultra-violence been delivered so unburdened by constraints on both a technical and imaginative level. From every color of the spectrum that makes up the filmmaking process there is groundbreaking work.

The effects work, widely touted for their practicality and absence of excessive CGI, are incendiary (quite literally). The few applications of synthetically altered imagery to be found here not once feel like the crutch, or even the backbone of the film for that matter. Rather, they are applied only when necessity rings. A chase through a flurrying electric sandstorm is the only exception I can make to this statement and, let me tell you, the grandeur, beauty and hulking menace of the almost biblically scaled digital creation warrants the technical splurge. The rest of the film, however, Miller opts for real explosions and heavy stunt work, alongside unique, idiosyncratically crafted production, costuming, and makeup, to serve as the primary aesthetic component of his masterpiece.

There are just SO many exorbitantly decked out pursuit vehicles and quirky, yet lethal makeshift weaponry and SO many detailed, distinct outfits applied to the numerous primary and peripheral characters manifested through vivid makeup and costuming, that it’s consuming this very sentence. I love what the guys over at HitFix said in there coverage of this film about how the visual design of each character speaks volumes about who they are and the kind of completely realized world they live in.

The cinematography is another elephantine achievement, something of a fever dream, really. To have crafted such and elegant presentation overflowing with personality is one thing, but DOP John Seale has captured Miller’s maximalist dystopian canvas with gorgeous, graceful camerawork. Some of the shots achieved in Mad Max: Fury Road astound in the fact that they even exist. Seale films under and over and inside and outside these exhaustingly terse chase sequences with and absolutely GODLIKE clarity and uniformity.

The editing job by Margaret Sixel is a fierce, remorseless work in cinematic refinery. She holds a shot long enough for us to bask in the spectacle, but judges the rhythm of the picture so keenly that every set piece has an opportune chance to amaze. Character interactions via expositional conversations (however few there may be) are edited rapidly, exercising the film of any extraneous dialogue or needless indulgence in this, its weakest aspect (I had to cite one at some point). Fury Road is a brisk 2 hours flat. It more than deserves that runtime and it is devoid of clutter or bloat for that duration.

I could spout zealous praise for Mad Max’s technical merit MUCH further, but sparing regard for the stunt-work present here would be an egregious malfeasance. Simply stated, Fury Road features an array of the most tireless, galvanizing action choreography to grace the multiplex. The not-joking-around, legitimately harrowing coordination of actors in the face of these continually escalating death-machines enlivens cliches perennial to orchestrated violence.

Max is chained to the front of deranged Volkswagen Beetle during a prolonged chase scene, helplessly whipped back and forth at high speeds. Men on vaulting poles, propelled by careening assault vehicles launch themselves at our heroes from atop their wobbling staffs. There is a hand-to-hand chainsaw fight. Countless droogs propel themselves across cars wielding fire-bomb tipped spears. It's bonkers.

I was left speechless when this finished. It can be hard to describe indeed.... but I'll go for it...
Even at the beginning, there's no hint MAD MAX: FURY ROAD is going to a stop. Right at the very start, the engines are already rewing, gathering furious fires of vengeance and redemption, and before the audience could snap out of the sheer moments of brutal grittiness and exhilarating high-octane drama, they are surely already held hostage within the confines of a post-apocalyptic world, where everything is horrendously scarce. Not that it's a bad thing, no it's not. I tell you, this is like being hurled into the space in a roller-coaster ride. It's dangerous, but it's also thrilling. Witnessing this dystopic world and all its hellish drama unfold might make you grope for seatbelt under your seat.

What a Lovely Day and What a Lovely Movie! This is just beyond expectations! There is nothing easy or predictable about what George Miller delivers with Mad Max: Fury Road, a stone-cold action master class, beautiful and brainy and startling in the ways it throws off the current definition of the blockbuster. There is gargantuan excess here, to be sure - and no shortage of madness - but there is also an astonishing level of discipline. Come for the blistering, full-tilt action, stay for the thought-provoking consideration of the post-apocalypse. The world of Mad Max has always been welded together from bits of whatever was lying around, and the films' brilliance has always been in their welding - the ingenious ways in which their scrap- metal parts were combined to create something unthinkable, hilarious or obscene, and often all three.

Also, Tom Hardy does a good job at his portrayal of Mad Max because he show's Max's sane and crazy sides perfectly well. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Flesh and metal collide in the part sequel, part reboot, post apocalyptic, no holds barred Mad Max: Fury Road. 70 year old director George Miller returns to the franchise he created, 30 years after the last outing. This time with Tom Hardy as Max Rockatansky and Charlize Theron as Imperator Furiosa, two rebels trying to survive in a desert landscape of lost humanity.

The plot is fairly simple, Furiosa abandons her duties and sets out to find her homeland, and take Immortal Joe’s young brides with her. Joe of course sets out to stop her and Max is caught up in this battle. Charlize Theron is fantastic as Furiosa, with her artificial limb and war paint, determined to find her home and reunite with what’s left of her family. Tom Hardy as Max is a man of few words, troubled by visions of past horrors. Both need to work together as they guide the fragile and beautiful brides of Joe to safety. The film has a core theme of feminist solidarity that balances well against the testosterone of Max, Immortal Joe and his War Boys. The performances from the two leads and their mutual respect is told mainly through actions rather than dialogue, exposition takes a back seat here.

Unlike previous films in the series, the budget this time around of $150 million finally matches the ambitions and imagination of the director. The sheer originality on display is impressive. Stunning photography, high contrast, warm colour palette and smooth camera work draw you into the wild west wasteland. The jaw dropping carnage of the action scenes are indescribable, Fast & Furious is a walk in the park compared to this. You must see it to believe it, but even then you still ask yourself, “Is this actually happening?” It has the right mix of CGI and real stunts that will make you think back to classics like James Cameron’s Terminator 2. And it all looks awesome in 3D IMAX. The score by Tom Holkenborg (aka Junkie XL) is loud, heart pounding, epic and in sync with the bizarre but soon to be iconic flamethrower guitarist and tribal drummers who get their fair share of screen time.

Are there any negatives to the film? Only a few. Immortal Joe was fine as the main villain but The Bullet Farmer and The People Eater lacked depth, i wanted more time with them to understand their reasons for actually being part of the chase. Joe’s brides (which included Zoe Kravitz and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley) weren't the best performers and were quite bad at times.

So despite all that, i highly recommend this film if for some strange reason you’ve been sitting on the fence. It’s feral, dark, gritty, anarchic, surreal, just pure mayhem. Mad Max: Fury Road isn’t just any action film, it’s one that sits side by side with your favourite Hollywood blockbusters, a new classic that demands repeat viewings for it’s visual triumphs and sonic assaults. Now if you excuse me, i’m off to watch it again!

Plenty of sterile action movies have came out throug the decade, none of 'em even close to serious action movie. Either they've got a very bad plot, or a terrible cast. If you'd like to watch a great "pure action movie" with nonstop road chase in greatly modified postapocalyptic world, with not many dialogues, just go get the tickets, sit down and watch.
I'm not saying it's the best pure action movie I've ever seen Its not, but in the last 15 years I haven't seen anything at this level. In it's own category IT'S a gem. Btw great soundtrack, great characters, a bit "not exactly what I was expecting" ending... 3D wasn't great, indeed the picture quality was just amazing.
As for me 9/10

In fact I think it is a crying shame that Gibson didn't play the lead role in this movie. It would have been the icing on the cake. Charlize is beautiful and her eyes pierce the screen. First and foremost I have not seen any other MM film besides the first one so I have no other film in the series to compare to.

When I go into a film like MAD MAX FURY ROAD, I expect explosions, mayhem, violence and action! action! action! If that's what you want to see, then that's exactly what you're going to get. Now as far as finding characters to connect with emotionally and relate to in your past and present then save your money.

This film has a very cut and paste plot not at all deep or emotionally driven but again you paid to see Mad Max, not Dear John or PS I Love You. The duration of the film is spent riding shotgun with four Characters and each one is a blast.

One thing I enjoyed and hated about this film was the fact that even though Max was the title character he had more of a supportive role rather than being the driving force. It could have very well been titled Furiosa: Fury Road and I wouldn't have argued.

Does it stack up to the other films? I wouldn't know. I feel like this film isn't a sequel but rather just a tale set in the Mad Max universe that functions well on it's own. Definitely worth the price of admission

It was appealing visually and it was appealing in that it could tell a story through not just words but through visuals as well. This movie seem to do well in the character development department and the dialog was minimal but it complimented the films feel. Tom Hardy was a great Max and has portrayed Max in a very honest way. The only thing stopping me from giving it the full 10 out of 10 is that the film feels like it is more about Furiosa and not Max. I think the film needed a little more Max and I'm not saying that he needs more character development or he needs to talk more. I think that would have made the film worse, but I think it should have felt more like we were watching Max help Furiosa on her journey but I felt as if we were watching Furiosa's journey. It is still a very action packed thrill ride with very good effects that are visually stimulating and exciting. This is a movie that has a lot to offer. It is a must see and it is executed very well. I wasn't able to sit back at all during the movie, the constant action and twists had me either on the edge of my seat or jumping up and down with my brother screaming. The only thing I feel could have been improved upon was diving more into the past of Max himself, he is one of the most iconic characters ever for many Action movie fans and yet, in a movie made to continue his Glory, he was explained very little. Those who know of his past of course understood some of the finer points in the film. All in all, I truly enjoyed my experience and I will definitely be buying it upon release. 9 out of 10. Expand

Beautiful, thrilling, suspenful, and amazing are just a few words that describe Mad Max: Fury Road. The Writer and Director of this film, George Miller was also responsible for the original Mad Max trilogy-starring actor Mel GibsonBeautiful, thrilling, suspenful, and amazing are just a few words that describe Mad Max: Fury Road. The Writer and Director of this film, George Miller was also responsible for the original Mad Max trilogy-starring actor Mel Gibson (Braveheart, The Patriot) as Max Rockatansky, who was seeking vengeance for the murder of his family. While he goes about seeking vengeance, Max (Mel Gibson) must overcome outlaws, gangs, and criminals along with his own past or ghosts rather, in a post apocalyptic setting as seen throughout all of the other films.

It has now been 30 years since the last Mad Max film was released in theaters causing the audience to feel a bit skeptical or apprehensive about this new movie of his, Fury Road. However, he had the audience on the edge of their seat as soon as the opening credits rolled in. The first scene of the film does an amazing job capturing the essence and the energy of the film as a whole, with an impressive chase scene involving our hero, Max. This is a movie that 80% of what you seen on screen was made with practical effects, which helped to elevate the movie even more. The car chases were awesome to watch as they were filled with beautiful action and breathtaking shots.

The action scenes were not the only breathtaking moments though. This film featured great talents such as Tom Hardy (Inception, The Dark Knight Rises) as Max Rockatansky, Charlize Theron (Monster, The Italian Job) as Furiosa, and Nicholas Hoult (X-Men: First Class, Warm Bodies) as Nux, and Hugh Keays-Byrne (Mad Max)

The film may be called Mad Max, but the character Furiosa (Charlize Theron) is the one that steals the show. The film focuses more on her as the main heroin who is trying to bring peace and freedom to a group of females that are being kept as slaves and property of the Immortan Joe played by Hugh Keays-Byrne who also played the original villain of the 1979 Mad Max version. By the second act things were really starting to heat up as Furiosa and Max come together in order to protect the women and take down the enemy with all they got.

In conclusion, Director George Miller shines as a filmmaker with Fury Road, making the audience feel like they are right in the middle of the action. He does everything right, from a great opening scene, to a deeply satisfying final act of the film. This is a film that is not for everyone, but if you love action and well-crafted action scenes, then this is the perfect movie for you. Over all, Mad Max: Fury Road is simply a stunningly beautiful action masterpiece that will live on for a very long time.

Final Score: 9.7/10

People these days waste too much time over-analyzing every movie, song or novel as if they were homework assignments meant to be broken down and explored exhaustively.

For me its simple and always has been since I was a small child, does a movie (or song or novel or game etc..) pull me into its universe? If yes then it was a success, whether or not there was little or a lot of dialog, many sub plots or no plot at all.

I just want to be entertained when I consume media, I want to forget and escape for a little while, to me that is the point of art to begin with, to simply pull you into a universe not quite your own. This movie did that, I wasn't analyzing its character development or trying to decide on whether or not it was trying to convey some feminist message, if it had period correct clothing according to my physics professor...for 120 minutes I forgot that I was in a theater, I was in their world and rooting for Max and Furiosa...terrified of Immortan Joe and in awe of what was going on in front of me. I left the theater pumped, mind racing, wanting to go right back in and experience it again. I'm not entertained by mindless action, its not that, I felt that same way while watching Mulholland Drive, listening to A Boy Named Sue or reading Ghost World. Great fiction takes you into its world and doesn't let you leave until the closing credits.

My views are all positive on this one, I loved it. I loved Mad Max 2 in the 80's, but watching it now, not so much, but this one has me loving Mad Max all over again, it far surpassed my expectations.
The action was phenomenal, the world was brutal and imaginative. The only one thing I would have liked more, would have been to have Max talk more and show why he is a legend more, as it seems to focus on Charlize Theron's character a little more than the movie's titular hero.

I love movies that can suck me into there world, without forcefully showing me everything, with overly long opening tracking shots, or a lot of exposition. Mad Max certainly doesn't have a lot of one of those. If you wrote down all of TomI love movies that can suck me into there world, without forcefully showing me everything, with overly long opening tracking shots, or a lot of exposition. Mad Max certainly doesn't have a lot of one of those. If you wrote down all of Tom Hardy's dialogue, it would roughly be the length of a couple of greeting cards. He takes after the Terminator, in T-2. Only interested in completing his goals, working with the few words he needs. Until of course he comes across people who don't speak in grunts, and he must expand his vocabulary. The great things about this movie is that it knows how you are suppose to use CGI for action sequences. Most action movies feel that bigger is better, and immediately construct a 30 story metal larva eating the Himalayas. I know computer animation takes a lot of work and takes enormous effort, but the sods who make animators go through all this are the ones I blame. Mad Max: Fury Road understands that CGI is the frosting on the cake. Making every bit of car crash feel more crisp, which works because they actually made a car crash first. If you just make a car crash using nothing but CGI, you are just making your cake with nothing but frosting. Yes we all like frosting but what's wrong with the cake batter you were using Michael Bay.
Just going to move on from that paragraph now, it was getting out of hand. If you haven't heard this yet the action in Mad Max 4(y Road) is quite good. Oh that's what you have been hearing since it came out? okay let's talk about other things. Have you heard about Furiosa? Yes? What about the flaming guitar guy? All the time? Well there isn't much more to talk about really. Mad max isn't exactly charming his way through the movie, but he helps fit with the movie's identity of broken consciousness. It's true that his actions are mostly based on survival, so he doesn't talk much because of this. He communicates through looks, like when he is trying to snipe an incoming vehicle, he does these little inflections that indicate he knows that Furiosa is the better choice to use the sniper. Little things like that make the movie. Yes the movie feels like pulse-pounding action, but it actually takes a good amount of pauses to let you breath. Once you have your breath you're ready to go. It would be hard to make this pacing not feel schizophrenic, but George Miller does it. George Miller feels like he deserves a lot of the credit.
The story for this was created using storyboard; this technique is often associated with animated features. This helped them tell their story through visuals with little words. It also gave use some of the best action sequences ever put to film. Really what makes the action feel like a whole other level is everything surrounding it. Pole dancing warriors with exploding sticks wouldn't quite feel right in say the Fast & Furious movies. It needs a production design that shows a world where SNM, post-apocalyptic, flame obsessed nuts rule the world. Also watching a weirdo spray chrome in his mouth is only right when we watch the bizarro culture it came from.
Overall the film provides us with a fascinating, eccentric, but still cruel world for great, or decent characters to blow each other up in. The action is thee past only in the hands of the Mad Max world.

I respect all opinions no matter what, but I can't grasp on how many negative reviews are on here. I recommend this movie to anyone, no matter if you have seen the original Mad Max trilogy or not. Now the only stupid part is where Max has to give *spoiler* a blood transfusion. That is a terrible idea unless you have the same blood type, and chances of that are next to nothing.

It's probably the most unique Blockbuster movie I've ever seen. The story has Minimal background and full fledged action. It's fast paced, violent and simplistic. It throws out some of the awkward action and overall movie cliches, like a protagonist, romance, character development, dialogue, story background, etc.

On a technical level this movie is Brilliant. The cinematography is on point and makes all these violent bloody scenes look strangely beautiful. The special effects are realistic too, Miller just knows how.

I really liked it and this movie does get a lot of hate - which is understandable. But calling this movie (and the people who enjoy this movie) moronic, pointless, stupid, etc. is just not right. This movie is brilliant in it's own amazing way - and if can't see that, don't insult the people who do.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. -MAD Max Fury Road-

Mad Max: Fury Road not only excels as an action movie but as an allegorical tale set in a post-apocalyptical world. The movie doesn’t have a consistent frame rate, some scenes are sped up, and others slowed down to make the film’s stakes and intensity escalate. Traditionally, I dislike when the framerate is messed with, especially when it involves being slowed down. However, with Mad Max: Fury Road it is integrated so well and so thoughtfully that it is hard to notice without intentionally looking for it. Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron give excellent performances. Hardy is especially good in his portrayal of the eponymous character. Mad Max: Fury Road portrays the struggles for dominance in ideologies and liquid possession (blood, water, milk). The cinematography and stunts were gritty while still being a visual spectacle. So much of what was shown in the film was built or shot practically, giving the film an air of authenticity that couldn’t be achieved, even remotely, any other way. Altogether, Mad Max: Fury Road is a thrilling faced-paced frenzy of a movie that is constantly raising its ever-high stakes. Even after the credits roll, the adrenaline is still pumping. Expand

George Miller has brought back the adrenaline-fueled spirit of the original Mad Max films with the pure visual splendor of the 21st century thrown in for added flare. This is the day and age that Mad Max was intended for.

First and foremost, this film is essentially a two-hour action sequence, and nearly all of it consists of car chases. But somehow, it never gets dull. The choreography is beautifully conducted and flawlessly portrayed with daring camerawork and unapologetically roaring sound mixing. The makeup and set design are ridiculously exaggerated and make for an entirely unbelievable thrill ride, but the sheer preposterousness of the visual appeal is unusually made up for by the sober reflecting brought on by the sufficiently simple storytelling. The acting and dialogue are surprisingly thoughtful and heartfelt, delivering an overall moving commentary on what it means to truly be at "home."

Mad Max: Fury Road delivers on pretty much everything that it tries to do. It's action packed, beautifully directed in every way, and brings in an unexpected amount of thought-provoking narrative heft. The only notable flaw is the inconsistent tone that switches quickly between bombastic absurdity and somber seriousness, weakening the strength of the film's sweet underlying message.

The only reason why this movie doesn't deserve a full 10 is due to the fact that the storyline does not follow a real creative and mind breaking turning point. Expand

The story is basic and narrative nice and easy to follow - this is a comic-book movie after after all. but where the film excels is the art direction, costumes, production, sound design, and most of all the incredible action sequences - some of the best ever created. Perfectly-edited chase and fight scenes. Extraordinary action. Very brutal in places, but the strong female characters help to add some balance. Charlize Theron is the real star of this film and still stunningly beautiful despite the one arm! Expand

Charlize Theron did a great job, which I'm glad to see after the last few stinkers she's been in. It's pretty much nothing but action for 2.5 hours straight, but it worked in its own way.

If you're going to see an action movie this summer, I'd say choose either this or Age of Ultron, but this was definitely the superior movie.

Up front, I enjoyed it. Puts the Fast and Furious movies to complete shame. And I enjoyed the original too. It’s an entertaining series, and we’ve got some worthy new lead actors to carry the story forward. Kudos to the production.
However, I’m shooting for the tires of all those “10” ratings out there.
First, the movie is essentially a car (truck) chase, which makes it difficult to give dynamic range to the drama – it’s always on pretty loud.
Second, the performances are good given this context, but hardly stand as masterpieces of character acting.
Third, let’s keep our powder dry and acknowledge that 8 or 9 is a worthy score for this movie. If you give Fury Road a 10, what does Raging Bull, or The Godfather Part II, or, if you want to stick to sci-fi, Inception or The Terminator, deserve? Or, if you want a bizarre, violent chase out of the Western genre, what does The Good, The Bad and The Ugly get, if this is a 10?
Fourth, the action-heavy and dialogue-light nature of this genre – and this is a genre film – leaves you with few memorable lines. Without that, it is harder to have memorable scenes. How do we build a shared shorthand around this “classic”? Do we use phrases like “the scene where he got the mask off his face” or “when Max gave her the gun because she was the better shot”? It is not impossible, but it is difficult.
So, go to this movie and enjoy its entertainment value, but let’s not elevate too many comics to classics.

But if you want a movie with a good story and more developed characters? You wont find it here.

This is not a bad film, I just wish it was a little slower, a little longer, more depth.

But if you're looking for a two hour chase scene? This is a masterpiece of a movie!

Cant wait to see this movie on 4k blu ray!!!!!

This movie is not as groundbreaking as all the reviewers will have you believe. It's a great movie without a doubt, but there were some aspects of the film I didn't like that made me lower my score.

First off, the world Miller created is amazing. Everyone and everything is crazy in true Mad Max fashion. This leads to having great visuals and action scenes throughout the entire film. However, there was almost too much action in the film, that by the end the finale just wasn't that impactful. The action itself is amazing. It didn't feel choreographed at all. It had a very spontaneous feel to it, which made it seem real and authentic. You know, the way action should be! I'm tired of watching computer game action sequences in films today. So this was a much needed breath of fresh air.

Second, I hate movies in which I can't understand dialogue anymore. Actors are instructed to talk crazy to give characters more depth. Ok, I understand that, but it's so bad that I can't understand half the things being said. Luckily, the female characters (who are not crazy) I can understand clearly. All the male crazy characters have weird accents, machines over their faces to distort their words, or are just flat out yelling. Yes, the world is crazy in a beautfiul way... but I would like to know what they are saying while doing crazy things. I'll put on subtitles next time I watch this film.

Finally, my biggest beef with the movie is the Mad Max character himself. I know the main complaint some might have is that he wasn't the main character in the film. I'm not bothered by that at all. My problem is that he doesn't feel like the same character I loved in the original films. The whole charm of the original Mad Max films for me is that Max himself was a calm, cool, collected badass in a world gone crazy. Max is suppose to be above it all, however in this film he's portayed as someone who's pretty much as crazy as everyone else. He's no longer calm and collected, but not he's screaming, paranoid, frantic, and haunted by his family's death... His family's death in the first film didn't consume him several years later when looking at Road Warrior or Thunderdome. Did anyone else feel like this Max character wasn't really the Max we've seen in the prior three films? It didn't to me, and it was bugging me the whole film.

This reboot of the cult brand of MAD MAX from the mastermind behind its original trilogy is a felicitous remedy to the generational fatigue of CGI-rampaged action tentpoles the world is overloaded with presently. After decades of immersion into animation filmmaking (paid off with an Oscar trophy for HAPPY FEET 2006 with his co-directors), George Miller’s grandiose return to live-action feature, the first one after LORENZO’S OIL in 1992, detonates the genre film enthusiasts with its cutting-edge visual spectacles which counter-act the current trend with the majority of its staggering set pieces accomplished with blood-and-flesh stuntmen and authentic objects other than virtual fictionalisation aided by computers, more pleasingly, the film has already conducts a profitable box-office trajectory worldwide, albeit it bears a hefty budget of $150 millions.

In many ways, I feel Mad Max's success is owed in part due to the nature of modern film making, where extensive and often unnecessary CGI has become the norm.

Still, Mad Max: Fury Road delivers a pretty solid offering if you're after an action Blockbuster that's packed wall-to-wall with inspired visuals, creativity, and heart-pounding action.

Their may as well be no script at all for this film as any small amount of dialogue that is offered is about as cryptic as a parable without any context.

This along, with some of the terms and design choices utilized in the film, may make certain elements of Mad Max: Fury Road familiar to fans of Warhammer 40,000. The Warboys themselves do have a certain Ork-like aesthetic to them and their zealotry and fanatical devotion to Immortan Joe does in many ways mirror the Imperium's veneration for the God Emperor.

Max himself plays practically no part in this film short of getting chained to things and spending nearly all his time in some sort of mask or simply grunting or pointing or looking at things. However, many of the other characters in this film, such as Furiosa or Nux or Immortan Joe, do pull you in enough in their own cryptic way for you to at least care about them slightly.

All in all, I was suitably impressed with this film. The dialogue was a little too pretentious and cryptic for my liking and the whole thing stunk of Warhammer 40,000 but you know what, I'm a 40K fan so have at it!

I expected a train wreck, didn't get one - Mad Max: Fury Road does the hi-octane stuff right, not dwelling on individual scenes a la "explosion porn" like Michael Bay does in his abortion of a franchise that is Transformers. Every shot here has a purpose, yet you see entire set pieces for just two seconds before the film moves on - and that's a good thing. The focus here is on art direction first and foremost, not "things that go boom".

Yet the movie does have faults. For one, the fast pace comes at the expense of character development - Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron do a good job of holding it together, but you don't feel invested in the characters as such; so much so that the lasting impression is of fine acting stretched thin. As said, the movies strengths overshadow this weakness - fantastic camera work, art direction, action and set pieces.

As a Spring/Summer blockbuster, it does its' job - it's a movie where you sit in front of it, it entertains from start to finish, and you go home happy. As long as you aren't expecting true depth and you're happy with (admittedly well done) CGI, you'll like this.

Though I have not seen the first three, I opted to see this one due to the great word of mouth and ultimately, I was incredibly satisfied. With an absolutely riveting world created that seems vast and unique in nature, Fury Road feels just like an epic action film should. Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, and Nicholas Hoult, are all fantastic, especially Hoult who really steals the show at times. The makeup is great and completely convincing. However, the real star here for me was the beautiful cinematography (which is gorgeous btw) and phenomenal special effects, which were the definition of perfection. The car chases featured both very well, which is why those scenes were undoubtedly my favorite and probably some of the most exhilarating and well plotted car chases I have seen in a film. Truly a great action film, if I was an action junkie, this would be a 10/10, but I am not. All the same, this is still a great film that provides all the heart stopping action and thrills that it should. Expand

Fury Road is an exercise in minimalism.

With a bare bones script and set in a bare bones landscape the movie wacks the audience with visuals and helter skelter chaos in what boils down to one long pursuit through a rocky desert that recalls Mad Max 2: the road warrior.
Is this the road warrior redux?
Perhaps it is in a way, but then it's infused with a touch of borderlands(the game) for it's over the top weird characters, with names like: The People Eater, The Doof Warrior and The Bullet Farmer. There is no way describing them, they have to be seen.
The movie keeps a stringent pace once it get's going, which is almost right from the bat, after we are (re)introduced to Max and the setting. Tom Hardy is a worthy successor to Mel Gibson, perhaps even better for he has a rather more edgy attitude, which is why Max is called Mad after all. In the first scenes he gets captured and while he tries to make his escape, he finds himself dragged along as war trophy perched in front of a car that is part of the pursuit of the War Rig, a massive truck-trailer combination commanded by Imperator Furiosa(Charlize Theron) who is trying to escape the War Boys of the Tyran Immortan Joe with his most adored treasure: his five nubile wives.
The chaos increases when the first of the pursuit catches up with Theron and Max tries to escape them, while the War Boys try to kill him, Furiosa and get the War Rig to stop at the same time without killing the wives. Once the first of the War Boys have been dealt with by Max and Furiosa, the fight is between them at first, but eventually necessity turns them into allies. Later on they are joined by Nux, a Warboy who is forced to switch sides.
A lot is smartly interwoven with the pursuit. There is the awkward love relation that develops between Nux and one of the girls. There is a kind of respect developing between Max and Furiosa. There is even some pondering that gives the movie a deeper feel. And there is even a very Boschlike scene when the War Rig travels to a swap-land where the Crows live.
The fight scenes are a marvel to behold, almost everything fanciful is flung at the War Rig: pole riders, trucks, bikes, monster trucks, armored cars, flamethrowers, hooks, chains and a high speed saw among them.

All in all this is a well made movie in which the star is Theron who overshadows even Hardy due to her personality. It's not because she pretty in this one, -for she is not- she is gritty, dirty and bald, but it is because she brings Imperator Furiosa to life. It makes me wonder whether the next installment in the series will be called Mad Max.

This is a vivid, strange, at times breathtaking action film with surprisingly strong character development and performances. The plot is pretty straightforward but you do get involved anyways. This over straightforwardness and relatively short length however stops this ride from being able to become the odyssey of redemption it could have been. But it's still undoubtedly one of the most vibrant, visceral, and intense action films ever created. You never feel like the characters are safe, which is an uncertainty lacking in almost all action films. It's the type of cinematic experience that needs to be seen on the big screen despite its minor flaws. This will almost certainly be the best film of the summer, and one the best of the year. Expand

It's a movie about survival, in Miller's beautiful visualized post-apocalyptic world. This really is a great refreshment to all the other so called "action movies" nowadays.

It's a crazy ride of insane, realistic and unique action at a grand scale. It got its classic moments with many references to the previous films, especially when it comes to the cinematography and the visual effects; which all are stunning! It's beautifully shot, the plot is extremely entertaining and the best aspect is the surprises throughout the film, so many crazy ones! This truly is an epic post-apocalyptic film, and it really is my favorite movie so far of 2015.

It's a bit overrated though, due to lack of long term entertainment when it comes to the action-sequences, but also because the movie didn't fit me to a 100 %. Everything else though; is EPIC! Wonderful and touching music, great characters, chemistry, spectacular action at a massive scale and a villain so great, and so terrifying and mysterious that he might be one of the best I've seen! The movie did satisfy my expectations, but it's a bit overrated.

Mad Max: Fury Road is quite impressive; I would go so far as to call it close to a miracle.

I almost never see, rather than review, movies in this genre, as its not my thing. But, I was pleasantly surprised to find that Mad Max was pretty good, and it paid homage to its Gibson-esque prequels. The film works on almost every level: as a comic book movie, as an action flick, as a character study, and much more. Also, it has beautiful cinematography and performances to burn; some of the CGI was almost as good as in the 2009 movie "Avatar", I dare to say. It was a really well done movie overall, that will satisfy almost any viewer, and I highly recommend the experience.

After all, the action scenes are riveting, and far beyond what the earlier Mad Max films might have accomplished with the budget and technology they had. It feels like an '80's movie in that it just doesn't give a ****, like it wasn't constructed by studio execs to play to the lowest common denominator. Instead, it's pure artistic vision.

The only aspect of the film I wasn't high on is casting. Tom Hardy is a good actor who seems perpetually miscast; Max is a better role for him than Bane or Young Picard was, but you'll spend most of the movie waiting for him to unmuzzle himself (literally and figuratively). However, I didn't think the Charlize Theron character or her distracting missing arm made the right sort of impact; I just came away wanting to see Max's next caper. Or, for that matter, more of the thrilling car action and weird touches like the flamethrowing guitarist and his war drum backup.

I will say that even though the action is phenomenal, I saw it in 3D, and that was pretty pointless. I wouldn't bother with the extra money and the glasses, just see it normal.

Some have called this film "feminist". It is concerning that Eve Ensler would be involved in anything, and if you want to, you certainly can read some hatred into the film. But really, don't all Hollywood films (and other entertainment media) treat men as the bad guys who are all maniacal, sexually aggressive and immoral and women as the innocent victims who can do no wrong, don't they all show men being brutalized en masse and then talk about how tough it is to be female? It's just par for the course. Don't worry, reality is still real, and the real world is decidedly egalitarian. This movie is a dystopian fantasy, not social commentary. Read as such, it's a fun ride.

However, the happy ending and the general tone of the film, apart from one twist that is surprising enough, are not dark and bitter as they should for such a movie, and for such a setting. The title "Mad Max" is somewhat misleading, the true heroin of the story being Furiosa, who makes all the important decisions and has way more character development than Max. But that's not really a problem, since he doesn't seem to have a lot of personality. Anyway, Mad Max is one helluva show, and probably one of the best action flicks I've seen for a long time.
Also: this movie contains an electric guitar with a flamethrower. That should convince any sensible person that it's worthy of two hours of your time.

No movie has been made like this, with so much energy, chaos and excitement. The movie has a great set-up, with the main villain Immortan Joe being one of the craziest villians in the past few years. Max himself is quite and subtle, but like everyone else in the wasteland is a bit mad and unpredictable. The main plot has a great premise, if a bit flimsy and sort of falls apart with plot holes near the end, but has a mature theme. The movie is filled with interesting and bizarre characters. One thing that I found was interesting is that max doesn't really seem to be the main character, although he is a lead. The main character seems like Furiosa, the female lead. Most of the movie revolves around her actions, shes acted and portrayed perfectly. Furiosa is one of the best female character leads of all time. She's not afraid to get her hands dirty and takes the punishment of her actions and from others really well and always seems to come on top in the long run. The Next most interesting characters are Nux, Immortan joe and max.

Another thing I have the mention are the cars. The cars in this movie are F**king nuts. Each one seems to have its own personality of what it represents and who drives it. The effects in this movie are mostly real. Real explosions, real cars and props( yes the guy in the trailer with the flaming guitar was real). Surprisingly little cgi or green screen effects, with is what makes this movie so damn good is that everything looks real because it is real.

Overrall, this is a movie you have to experience for yourself. Its not something that can really be watched on a T.V or a Iphone. Unless you got a home theater with surround sound you HAVE to go see it in theaters.

This movie was very fun. I liked the style of it. The plot is very simple, the whole movie is a long chase, but the atmosphere is what makes this movie so good.

The story is a little confusing. The main problem I have is the camerawork it feels like 2 different people did one being someone who knows how to make action movies like Matthew Vaughn and the other being the person who did the camerawork who fight in the first Hunger Games movie. One positive for the movie is when normally a movie franchise takes almost 10 years to make another installment it's not really good but this is surprisingly good. The characters (besides Max) are developed alright, and the supporting characters didnt seem useless. Expand

Fury road it's just a movie that wants to deliver non-stop mad action. To achieve this, they didn't want to risk in falling into a cliché action story, so they just skiped this part, and they didn't add any plot! This isn't something bad, it's just the objective of the movie. The result it's pure fun and spectacularity. If you want to see mad max, this is what you need to expect

Although, I think they truly missed a real opportunity for making a movie worth being worshiped. Just a little more of plot, a simple one, could have made that differece
