They created the best they could, at some part they did a fabulous job, specialy the deep story. Absolutely one of the best Marvel films. It moves away from the typical formula and feels much more game of thrones. Adults movie fans need to grow up and except that LIFE HAS CONSEQUENCES.

Eternals leaves me very conflicted. Overall, I loved this movie. I had so much fun with it and I loved how it expands the lore of the MCU. I had so much fun with it and I loved how it expands the lore of the MCU. That said though - I do have some strong feelings about this movie. One thought being, I really think this story should have been told in 2 parts instead of cramming it into 1 2hr and 38min film. I loved these characters but I don’t feel like I ever got to know them enough to be as invested in them as I did Iron Man, Captain America, or even Shang-Chi.

This film is gorgeous. The cinematography is absolutely breathtaking and Ramin Djwadi’s score really brings this story to life. I think this movie deserves every bit of praise it gets, but it also deserves some of the criticism as well. Well worth the price of admission, but just know this is not going to be a movie for everyone.… Expand

The only Marvel movie I truly enjoyed. Maybe that's why there's so much hate - they love the same old dumb jokes thrown in all over the place and the explosions.

I've never made a review on Metacritic here, so apologies if I'm not succinct. Anyways, I left the movie theater genuinely wondering if I had seen the same movie as critics. The flashbacks, when we had them, were coherent and clearly marked for audiences, making the plot more than easy to follow. I don't often disagree with critics, and when I do I can typically still see why they see the movies the way they do. But I GENUINELY cannot even fathom why this movie was panned the way it was. It is excellent. Character writing and cinematography is excellent. The story is, as I said, quite coherent, and is even engaging and enjoyable for audiences. The humor is great and doesn't overplay itself, and the relationships between each character is clear - no Eternal feels unimportant to the story (except for perhaps Makkari, which is unfortunate given her character was a blast). It does well to tease the future of the MCU, and it's the best movie in Phase 4 thus far.… Expand

This movie was really good, I really enjoyed the storyline and thought the characters had great chemistry. I am excited for the next movie. It's a refreshing look and beautifully shot. I hope you give this movie a chance!

As a huge MCU fan my whole life, I am very surprised how bad the rating for this movie was. Yeah, yeah, it was slow at first however had to be done to introduce the new characters and new hero’s into this franchise. Are you going to shame ‘doctor strange and the multiverse of madness’ just because it will be a spin on a horror movie. You have already shamed WandaVision being a sitcom at first. YOU NEED TO OPEN UP YOUR MIND SET. The Eternals was a great movie with a great spin to it mixing a history type gum into the MCU. The story line was really good and the development of each character was amazing.The use of how they went to past day to present day was an amazing idea and told the story really well. A a true MCU fan I am proud to say this was a good film and doesn’t deserve the low scores they got today! THANK YOU… Expand

I don’t know why this movie is getting such poor reviews. I’ve seen each and every Marvel movie and to say that this one is the worst is ridiculous. Clearly everyone totally forgot about Thor: The Dark World, Iron Man 2 or either of the HulkI don’t know why this movie is getting such poor reviews. I’ve seen each and every Marvel movie and to say that this one is the worst is ridiculous. Clearly everyone totally forgot about Thor: The Dark World, Iron Man 2 or either of the Hulk movies. Eternals is overlong, that much is true. It takes waaaay too long to get everyone together and there are exposition scenes that could be cut in half or completely eliminated. And the ending was muddled. I still don’t entirely understand how they killed that eternal. But otherwise, the movie is fine. It has a clear plot and fairly well defined characters. I think this movie may suffer from over expectations. There’s no way this movie is the worst. I’d give it a B or 85 out 100.… Expand

The movie is really trying to be international, I have never heard and seen so many cultures and languages in a superhero movie before. The action scenes could be more frequent but when they happen they are really fun to watch. The dynamic between the characters is also fluid and natural, think of the dynamic of the different Avengers but instead of working for only a decade, it's been thousands of years. The Eternals is one of my favorite Marvel solo movies to date.… Expand

Eternals en mi humilde opinión no es la peor película del UCM dado que en esta interminable lista de películas de superheroes, hay peores cintas que la película ya antes mencionada. Tampoco es entendible toda la mala prensa que ha estado recibiendo, creo que un proyecto tan ambicioso como este iba a despertar tantas malas críticas porque cuando se intenta cambiar un poco el tono,este es el riesgo que se puede correr. Como puntos a favor puedo decir que toda la técnica que manejo la película es magnífica, su fotografía es muy buena (una de las mejores en una película de Marvel Studios), todo el tracklist y el manejo de los colores para cada plano escogido.
Mis personajes favoritos fueron: Ikaris, Serbi y Kingo. Las cosas no tan buenas de esta película para mí fueron: Un poco la duración (Pero en parte es entendible, porque para presentar todos estos personajes se necesita una cantidad inmensa de tiempo), el tema con los desvíantes queda un poco en segundo plano, y la muerte de Gilgarmesh.
En conclusion mi calificación final a esta película es de 7.7… Expand

It was a good movie - not great, but VERY good. I wanted it to keep going, but it ended and I didn't even notice how long it was. There are some plot issues (The Deviants fall into classic MCU "Useless Bad Guys" cliche, among a few others),It was a good movie - not great, but VERY good. It's over the head of some MCU fans, but I read the comics for years and years and ate everything that was spoon-fed to me up. Shang Chi was better, but this was a solid entry in the MCU. B+ grade (Shang Chi A-. Thor 2 is a D just to establish some critic credibility. Age of Ultron was weak too, by the way).… Expand

Eternals is a beautiful movie with heart and in 2 hours and 30 minutes does a better job of expanding on lore and setting up bigger things than unfortunately ZSJL did in a 4 hours (Still great, a 8/10 for me). This movie is the perfect length, it has jawdropping action, great comedy, and even twists that no one could have expected from the trailers. Chloe Zhao in my opinion is worthy to continue this series and has truly shined once again with such a heavy task on her Director plate. The Eternals themselves are layered and have their own desires and needs themselves and you will appreciate them all in their own way and feel you've taken a journey with them, the audience I was with seemed to enjoy every bit of it. The dialogue around this movie has been vile, especially by certain YouTube channels I will not mention but rest assured, the diversity here is not in your face and no one is here for "representation" sake. I cannot wait to see it again soon, it really blew me away and I left with the smile that I tend to always have walking out of a Marvel movie.. isn't that what its about?… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Eternals is a movie that will get more respect and appreciate over the time. Although I'd personal liked some parts of the movie, it still has some major flaws which pulled this film from being a masterpiece.
I'll go through things that I liked and then move to ones I didn't care about.
Okay, right from the beginning, this movie is just gorgeous. The cinematography is spectacular - every location is unique and unbelievable beautiful. The action scenes, though there were only three of major ones, were great, entertaining and kept me at the edge of seat. The characters were all amazing and the acting was absolutely fantastic across the board. My favourite character in this film was Thena played by Angelina Jolie. Once again Jolie proves that she always understands the assignment. She had the depth that her character needed. Thena's fight scene with Ikaris was just BOMBASTIC! Loved her and all that she did in this movie. My second favourite character is Makkari. Loved her CGI effects and her personality. My third and fourth favorite characters are Sersi and Phastos. Loved them both, especially Phastos at the end, we he was fight against Ikaris with Thena and Makkari. Sersi was great aswell, though I would've loved to see what she is capable of doing and maybe her powers should've been explored more. I also found Ajack to be pretty interesting, but I was disappointed that she died very early in the film. Ikaris was great both as a protagonist and antagonist. I think that he was just too overpowered. Kingo and Gilgamesh were both fine, didn't care about either of them. Sprite was the least character in my opinion. I tried to relate to her, but just couldn't do that, and her love-thing with Ikaris was just uncomfortable to watch. Now let's talk about things that I didn't care about. Sadly, the story is the first thing in this list. It was messy and had too many time jumps which were poorly made. Also it had too much exposition. Plus some of the plot details were just too confusing for a standard MCU viewer aka casual audience. The story also had too much drama and too much talking. The love triangle didn't work at all, because I couldn't see nor believe that there was something between Sersi and Ikaris or Sersi and Dane therefore it completely failed in delivering any emotional weight.
The origin of eternals was just too confusing. The film didn't have enough action scenes to keep movie from being boring and tedious at the times. At the end, even with all its flaws, Eternals is a solid MCU film with gorgeous cinematography and great action scenes. Plus, it succeeded in making diversity a natural part of the movie - nothing was forced and none of the characters were special because of it. I'd say that the film is a 8/10 for me. It  unfairly has the lowest RT score, but I hope that the audience will save this film from being a flop.… Expand

I will say tho that if you're looking for mindless action, this film ain't that. It's not the deepest, most philosophical film you'll ever see, but it's better than most superhero films. Seriously I have no idea what's going through their heads jfc. But after seeing the film I just had to make an account on this website and defend it. It was about all new characters so there was a lot to learn all at once, but I felt Zhao did a good job introducing them, and by the time it was done I wanted to spend more time with some of them for sure.

Much better than the average critic reviews would lead you to believe. I think in a few years, when people look back at this movie they'll be able to appreciate it more. Definitely worth seeing in the theater.… Expand

Beautiful and magnificent new entry for the marvel cinematic universe. Chloe Zhao really nailed the introduction of 10 new awesome and very unique characters that were very well developed. I really enjoyed Eternals. The narrative and world-building were great. Coupled with unprecedented imagery for both quiet scenes and action scenes. Indeed, one can argue that some dialogue was repetitive and not really necessary, but for theI really enjoyed Eternals. The narrative and world-building were great. Indeed, one can argue that some dialogue was repetitive and not really necessary, but for the main characters, Ikaris and Sersi, delving into their world through dialogue is inevitable. Sure, it's a long movie that requires us casual viewers to unpack a lot. In fact, you meet 10 characters plus a small love story plus several historical scenes, which has to be digested at first, but in my opinion, is very well done and presented. The chemistry between the characters as a family was easy to see. It's also funny, I really had to laugh at some of the scenes. The final fight was really awesome, as also mentioned by some in the panel. In a nutshell:
Storytelling and Worldbuilding: 3/5 Story: 3.5/5 Action: 3.5/5 Visuals: 5/5 sound design: 5/5 character design: 4/5 Fun: 4/5 Implications for the current MCU: 5/5

So, it's a solid 4 out of 5 ≈ 80%.

After hearing about that this movie is the lowest rated in the MCU I had really-really low expectations. But at the end I don`t understand why it has low scores, great acting, decent story, puts the MCU on a different scale. It definitely takes the Marvel Cinematic Universe to a different place than it's been. Widespread implications and a different view on some of the core concepts that are bigger than global.

Eternals is one of my favourite MCU movies of all time. The movie does an incredible job of giving the sense that gigantic concepts are being executed on the screen both metaphorically and literally. I challenge anyone to find a better film that depicts the existential crisis of a pantheon Godlike beings. These are the creative swings that people have been clamoring for the MCU to take, and they knocked it out the park. With audiences having less prior knowledge of these characters than any other in the MCU, the largest main cast, and no definitive main character, I would argue that this is the strongest ensemble cast in the MCU. The pacing allowed the film to truly feel like an epic, while mixing in two intertwined mysteries presented early in the film and revealed at the perfectly placed denouement. Chloe Zhao's use of scenic wide landscape shots for many of the action sequences puts the audience in the eyes of a mortal spectator viewing a clash of gods from a safe distance. Never before has a film made me ache for the chance to see the long lost wonders of the ancient world, which were brought to life as living breathing cities, and not just fancy CGI backdrops. The film has been met with mixed reviews, but I think that like many films before it, time will have many detractors reversing their opinions.… Expand

It's beautiful and I'm sure most will like it. I think the pace was fine, the story starts quickly without too much introduction. I think the pace was fine, the story starts quickly without too much introduction. At no point it felt slow or boring to me, there are no notable filler scenes and everything is there for something or for the characters' development, there is always something new to discover, a surprise or a twist. It kept always interesting to me. Wasn't expecting it but has a lot of action, although it works really well with the story and doesn't feel unnecessary.

It definitely falls outside the Marvel formula, it has a different and much more mature tone without childish jokes, although it's still funny and made me laugh (and my theater) several times. It's normal to forget that you are watching an MCU movie, it happened to me most part of it. It may not be everyone's taste but at least to me and my friends who watched it, it was pretty good.

It's a thought provoking movie, it doesn't tell you what's right or who the villain is, it's up to you from the perspective you want to take. Still considered the story is very clear and I don't think it's messy. I think what stands out the most is characters' development, they all are interesting and relatable, they have flaws as well.

I also didn't pay much attention to it because I was hooked on the story but it's visually stunning. The soundtrack is beautiful. The cast is perfect and they are very talented, every scene looks natural, and without question Chloe Zhao's direction is great. I really want to watch the film again.

I feel like it lacked something but not sure what, maybe it's because I had very high expectations but I'd give it 9/10.… Expand

I find it interesting that critics are lambasting the movie, but I, not a huge fan of the Marvel formula nor well versed in comic lore, loved this. Actions scenes clean and amazing, the score FINALLY it's not **** trap/rap or stupid pop bull**** but a serious and deep score.
For me this movie don't reach the 10 score because of the wasted Deviant villain: He become powerful, learn to speak and then...die...like an idiot; for me the only low point of the movie, but the rest is amazing.
Great ending with logical sense: You can't fool a god without punishment so well, that's an original and very cool ending… Expand

If you were searching for a typical Marvel movie you must not watched the Eternals. This movie is clearly heading the MCU in a new direction ! This movie is clearly heading the MCU in a new direction ! Maybe the movie was a bit long but it was needed to presents us the 10 amazing characters that is this found family (recurent theme of the movie). Great Job of Chloe Zhao to make us fall in love with those new heroes and anti-heroes on a such short notice! The eternals is a slow movie, celebrating the humanity of our planet. The scenarist and most of the characters decided to see the best in humans which is rare. Even tho the movie may seemed rough or messy at some point, it's an enjoyable movie with amazing CGI and natural landscapes. Bonus points to mythological reference and Ramin Djawadi's composition !
Minus point for the slowness or rather the will to linger on certain feelings or characters

Dont get me started on the beautiful and long-awaited representation of the movie !… Expand

I think this movie was unfairly criticized just for being very different from the other Marvel Studios movies and that seems very bad to me because it is the first time that the studio dared to give us something that is out of their comfort zone.

This movie was brilliant and full of both heart and humor. This was light years better than Thor: The Dark World and Iron Man 2! Not even close. I hated Nomadland, but the director did a stellar job with a very difficult story here.

While the rewarding third act is worth the wait, the first and the second act of this film has a ton of pacing issues, lacks a nice build-up, unique chemistry and fulfilling development. Chloe Zhao's signature style, execution and editing for Eternals overall doesn't really paid off. This film also has really bad lighting especially when it's dusk or night time (by film visual), sometimes you can't really see who's on the screen especially on action sequences and few of the flashback sequences felt a bit all over the place. Charming characters like Kingo who should've been the comic relief was sidelined by his assistant instead so Kumail's performance was a bit underwhelmed and had no motivations. Ma Dong Seok/Don Lee's performance felt a lot better than Kumail's and few characters in the film had that 'one tear only' moment. Angelina Jolie's Thena was also underused, her character has more actions than interactions because of her fictional disease and Sersi had more motivation than emotions or any expression while Makkari, Druig, and Sprite are in the spotlight for fleshing those points out.

SPOILERS:
The third act has great plot twists and character conflicts that impacts a Galactus-scale threat and a huge cliffhanger at the end of the film, which was shocking and satisfying to witness. The first post credit scene ignites an exciting bond between the Eternals and a cool new character for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.… Expand

Frankly, I'm shocked.

Perhaps its because I had my expectations set so low, or maybe I'm just a sucker for a universe-building movie, but I can honestly say that I absolutely adore this film. After seeing the mass criticism of "Eternals," IFrankly, I'm shocked.

Perhaps its because I had my expectations set so low, or maybe I'm just a sucker for a universe-building movie, but I can honestly say that I absolutely adore this film. After seeing the mass criticism of "Eternals," I did expect to enjoy the film from an audience standpoint, just not a critical one. But, ever since I left the theater, I've been scratching my head trying to figure out why this film has been so bombarded with negative reviews.

For starters, the film dives into some remarkably deep topics that I haven't seen in many movies, especially nothing from the MCU. Most deep conversations and emotional connections in cinema deal with love, death or discrimination. Eternals manages to pull in the audience's attention by showing us the beauty of life as we know it, something director Chloé Zhao does amazingly. The film doesn't feel like an MCU episode, and I'm honestly glad it didn't. THIS is where Marvel begins branching out to create beautiful new ideas.

Something that really stood out to me was Thena's arc. Yes, it was well written, but we mainly have Angelina Jolie to thank for Thena's emotional rollercoaster. Jolie proves once again just how well she can put on a preformance, and thus Thena's journey ends up being one of the most beautiful parts of the film. Likewise, you could make a case for almost any of the Eternals to end up as your favorite.

Perhaps the film's one flaw, being a little more humor than necessary, holds it back from being a perfect addition to Marvel, but even those humorous moments add a lively atmosphere to the scenes.

There isn't much more I can say without spoiling any major plot points, but as of my first viewing, I'm quite shocked at how beautiful, tragic and well done this film is. I'm disappointed to see the negative reception it's received.… Expand

Saw this last night. Honestly, it's not as bad as what the critics are saying. It definitely isn't the best Marvel movie; however, I thoroughly enjoyed the characters. I LOVED the historical tie-ins.

Even if this love takes you to your absolute demise, your existence will nonetheless have had a greater meaning and resonance with it...

The movie tackles major philosophical themes ; and through the intimacy of its diverse characters, resonates on a higher plane... Each of The Eternals live a personal tragedy and have to face their doubts, dilemmas and demons, existential questions that go way further than anyone's perception... Probably the most gorgeous movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, virtuosically staged (congratulations to Chloe Zhao), every actor/actress fits his/her role perfectly, and they all deliver poignant performances. There are numerous deep emotional moments, in addition to all these striking epic sequences that obviously find their climax in the later parts of the movie (entwined with a heartbreaking dramaturgy that amplifies the emotional impact of it all). The score is a true gem and the entire production is a pure delight. Not a "Space Opera", but a "Mythological Opera"...

Definitely a Marvel movie that can't be compared to any other of the franchise... But from this little masterpiece of a movie, are seeds that open to numerous exciting possibilities ! Whether it is for each of The Eternals we've discovered and seen marvelously blossom all through this grand adventure ; but also for the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole and in its most extended sense !...… Expand

The critics are definitely exaggerating about this one. Almost cried at multiple points in the movie! Hit the spot almost perfectly. Almost cried at multiple points in the movie! Hit the spot almost perfectly. There was a pacing problem but that was compensated by the grandeur of the scenery. Literally didn't hate anyone except Ikaris. Makkari and Thena's scenes were the best. I despised how they wasted Gilgamesh and Ajak though. Ikaris can die idgaf. The Gay rep was chefs kiss. LOVED THIS MOVIE WITH PASSION.
The Post-Credits with Blade was literally perfect. Harry Styles in the MCU is a little difficult to fathom.… Expand
