This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I can't express myself enough to how much i adore this movie.
It was easy to make it just another action driven marvel movie, with a plot that i think everyone sees coming, a prince that is made king over the death of his father, looses his throne and has to take it back. But this was such a small part of the movie.
This movie, got the character development completely on point, no character is the same as it was in the beginning, and going through the process is what the movie is, it has action on it (of course it's a superhero movie after all), but Black Panther is more character driven than anything. Applause to Michael B. Jordan for his amazing portrayal of what could have been just another villain, but Erik Killmonger is without a doubt the best villain the MCU has. He has the right intention, what he says makes sense, it makes so much sense that in the end he convinces the main character to agree with his intentions, of course his actions are that of a villain and that's where the difference lies.
The Humor is also really well done, and in all of that technology, they didn't forget to show the african aspect of it all.
Of course it has some minor setbacks, like they introduce us Killmomger with such an amazing scene, but then he's gone for a while, some parts of the CGI really seemed unfinished, like the Rhinos for example, it started off a bit slow actually, only getting really geared up when T'Challa fights Jabori tribe leader for the throne.
So i think this is a marvelous film, and that really makes me respect the director Ryan Cooler even more, he has a bright future

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The scene where Wakandan soldiers fight each other was like a reference to the American Civil War. Maybe it wasn't, I'm not sure but all those blue vs red guards looked like an African version of it.

I really liked historical references and the details about African culture. The film is a visual feast at its best. I simply can't wait to watch and learn about Wakanda.

Last super hero films bored me a lot but thanks to Black Panther, Marvel excites me again.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Good movie. All of the positive things you have heard over and over again are true. Great world building explaining Wakanda and their history. Love the different fictional African tribes with their different religions, styles and technologies. This film stands well on its own among the Marvel movies in that a lot of the MCU backstory is not needed going into this movie and it stands well on its own. Also, as with most MCU movies of the last couple years, the universe is a lot different coming out of the movie than it was before coming in. The scores and soundtracks are some of the best I've heard in a movie in years. I would actually buy this soundtrack which I haven't done in quite awhile. My only 2 complaints are the shaky-cam fighting style used to hide the mediocre fight choreography and the killing off Klaw. I thought he was a fun chaotic villain that was different from most MCU bad guys and it would have been great to see him return to hassle other heroes in his unique way. It seems like Marvel sets up too many villains just to kill them off in their second outing. Aside from my couple issues, the movie is well deserved of its praise. Expand

This isn't just a superhero saving the world from a supervillian. This is about the new generation dealing with the flaws and mistakes of the previous generations. They handle the topic with great care and show multiple perspectives on the subject and how someone may get to their conclusion. Of course, this is a great superhero film as well. They tie up some loose ends from previous MCU films and incorporate them into this film with ease. The acting is great from Chadwick Boseman to the standout actress, Letitia Wright. Michael B. Jordan gives us the best MCU villain since Loki. He’s so great that you can understand where he is coming from, even if you don't agree with is stance. For the most part, the action is well done, however there are a few moments where some CGI looks unfinished. Black Panther is in the top echelon of the MCU origin films and I can't wait to see more of Black Panther in Avengers: Infinity War this May! Expand

This film, at it’s foundation, is deeply flawed. Awkward dialogue from most characters excluding the lead. The action is unoriginal and hard to become invested in. CGI is below usual Marvel films and story is horribly paced.

It is fun, nothing risky. The plot is very political. The villian is a very complex character, I think this character perfectly works for two or more movies. The CGI is not very good. The jokes didn't work most of the time, the movie is too serious. Most of the characters are very well done. Should you watch this movie? Yes, but once. Expand

I have personally wondered how Marvel was going to move forward after Infinity War; the movie that caps off literally EVERYTHING they have made, Black Panther is that formula that will move them forward.

The story was totally inclusive to itself with political intrigue, family relationships, Leadership responsibility to home and the world at large. The movie proved to me that building strong standalone stories set within the marvel cinematic universe is the way they can move forward. It also can easily bring each standalone characters together for a "team-up event" sometime down the line.

The acting from everybody is fantastic, especially the two main leads, in Chadwick Boseman and Michael B. Jordan. Unlike many MCU movies, the stakes feel high in spite of the grounded approach to storytelling, the film is shot and composed really well, the art design is fantastic, and, for the first time in seemingly forever, the villains (both Killmonger and Ulysses Klaue) are great. The plot doesn't break any new ground necessarily and the CG is mediocre when used, but the themes exposed through this plot and the practical elements/effects make up for these shortcomings for the most part. In the end, Black Panther lives up to a lot of the hype and truly differentiates itself from its MCU counterparts in many great ways. This truly is up there with Iron Man, Avengers, and Guardians of the Galaxy as one of the best movies the MCU has offered. Expand

Everything about Black Panther is so refreshing that we are dived into the cultural aspects and life what Black Panther is up to after the events of Civil War. Similar to Wonder Woman, this film is documenting the social construct of what this film is set to be and it’s way more than just a regular action movie. The blazing choreography, cinematography, directing, performances, and the soundtrack of this film really packed a big punch that it already set a monumental standard for the MCU. Ryan Coogler, you proved us that you can actually direct a superhero movie and it’s very well made than any other MCU movie I’ve ever seen, you sir are a genius, also, the female cinematographer will get that Oscar in the near future if she haven’t won yet and you’re a Marvel of doing this! If you haven’t seen Black Panther, you really want to see it on 3D or IMAX before Infinity War drops!! (Also to those on Metacritic that are childlishly bashing towards this film, you’re a lowhearted right-wing Drumpf limpriding bigot that wants to get attention even though this film proves to be one of the most influential superhero films ever made and I can’t see why Black Panther offended you so much, instead look at yourself in the mirror and realize you are the problem. Diversity is everywhere and you can’t do anything about it, we are all human. If you still can’t control your buttons yet, just watch or rewatch American History X for a better picture so you don’t have to act like a self-absorbed jacknob on the internet ever again. **SHOTS FIRED**) Expand

I'mIt sucks to have to start off a review like this but I couldn't help but notice the weight of negative reviews left for this movie and the nature of the comments. The stench of racism and agenda pushing is blatant and ain't fooling ####. I'm not one to think we live in a world full of racist, however its sad the amount of people still out there with so much hate that they feel the need to purposefully go online to review a movie just because of the precedents it sets. All for a movie that although has general positive message most would agree with, really doesn't get too political and is actually pretty safe.

With that out of the way, now to the movie itself. Was this the best marvel movie now to date? Probably not. Was it still a fun and refreshing movie to catch? Without a doubt. There wasn't anything groundbreaking with the storyline, however everything you would want at least in an action movie checked all the boxes. Character motivation was believable, there weren't any annoying holes in the storyline, and the villain was reputable. The action scenes weren't on Civil War level, but not many movies are, and they were definitely not void of originality and excitement.

None of the film critics can be trusted anymore. They seem to be only good for virtue signaling and SJW pandering these days. It is clearly a trend now. This is not a 10/10 film by any objective measure regardless of your subjective views.

I have to say that this was by far the most boring MCU film to date. I was not expecting much when I went to theater, but the film still managed to disappoint me. This is not to say that you cannot be entertained by it, but the perceived greatness relies heavily on the type lens you have. This film, like all other MCU films, got nothing to do with reality, it is a fantasy movie. The setting is somewhat interesting, but even as a fantasy, it forces suspension of disbelief. We know from history that an isolationist state like depicted in the film would not be able to exist. It would stagnate and most likely fall to tyranny at some point. This is conveniently explained away with magic (Vibranium), which makes it slightly more palatable. The film also introduces host of new characters to MCU, which are a mixed bag at best. Some of them are quite cringe worthy, some are not believable, while others do indeed put a solid performance and have development during the film. The plot is probably the strong point of the film. Some will not like it, as it is quite different from other MCU films. However, I did enjoy the plot more than the other parts of the film.

Aesthetically the film was pleasing. However, the over reliance on CGI is noticeable and poorly done at times. The film also lacks action scenes and the few that we have are not very well done. The combination of color, CGI and editing makes some of the scenes look very cartoonish and hard to follow.

I would still recommend the film. Lower your expectation and don't believe the professional film critics. They seems to be outright lying or pandering to perceived audience. It is pathetic.

I sat in the movie theater from 9:45 to 12:30, because of a hour long commercial. I don't appreciate that. So anyway, what is the point of the King taking the vibranium from his brother and then killed him if there are a lot of vibranium in the King's country. Why bother the white Detective if he wasn't really interesting in capturing the bad guys? Expand

Like my review's first few sentences, they just seem like they could be worded in a more coherent fashion. Fight scenes were definitely fun to watch although i did not enjoy some of the scenes filmed at night because the camera work was too shaky and it was hard to tell exactly what was taking place on the screen. Third act had some great camera work and great fight scenes however. The story was quite linear; you knew the entire time where story would lead, what the "twist" would be and how it would be resolved. All in all, it was another decent entry in MCU. One thing i always complained about when it comes to MCU movies is their color contrast or rather lack of it. This movie did have moment of vibrant colors mixed into its cinematography which made it more fun and appealing to watch. Comedy was present as it always is in MCU but this movie was able to go a good job keeping the tone serious since it was warranted considering the plot. There were a couple of points in the movie where it felt a bit slow and felt dragged on especially in the second act but picked up near the end which made up for it. It doesn't necessarily have to be seen in theaters but def is worth a watch if you are action movie genre fan and especially if you are a superhero/mcu fan. Expand

Cons
-Well, you know, it's not a Marvel Movie without tons of clichês

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Black panther is one of those movies that you are confused by the whole movie but by the end of it its much better. The plot was a bit dizzy, and mostly in one place, which is a main problem. For a movie to be entertaining at most, it must be in multiple settings across the globe or in a galaxy far, far away. However, the time the setting is changed, it is one of the best thrills in the movie. Another slight problem with the movie was the cliche. It seemed do ordinary that T'Challa lost, looked at inspiration, and got the throne back (by force, or course). You want to know what was one good thing about the movie? The woman. And no, im not saying that because i'm looking at them with lust (god no). It because they are so engaging in their roles, just that can make the movie worthwhile. Of course, there more good things about it. Another positive from the movie was the action. Despite the few action in the middle of the movie (plot development), Black Panther has thrilling action sequences, and not too plain, but not too chaotic and the same time. The comedy was light, the exact opposite of plain (to be honest, I let my guard down with the WHAT ARE THOOOOSE meme), and it works perfectly. Last but not least, Micheal B. Jordan and Chadwick Boseman nails their place perfectly. The villain is terrorizing, and it doesn't really have issues. Chadwick Boseman (Chad for short) nails his throne of the king, like he is one in real life. Last, but not least, the CGI. This one is kind of mixed. In the beginning and middle, the CGI is not too sen, and the whole movie looks realistic and dazzling. However, towards the end of the movie, it goes into full OVERDOSE. In the end, Disney manages to make a full movie (great by the way) with a single cliche, and succeeded terrifically. 7.0- Not Bad Expand

I'd say it was a huge disappointment, but I really wasn't interested in the movie until the so-called critics did their weird-ass gushing thing. Speaking of critics -- the f**k is wrong with all of you? Seriously. Do your jobs or quit. Right now, you're all just professional turd-polishers for a multinational corporate behemoth.

I kept wondering how the story about wakanda's super secret city & strength be revealed to the audience. And I couldn't have expected any better, simpler, crispier father-son narrative on why wakanda is the way it is!
Black Panther covers most of Marvel's ingredients, but it feels to have gravely lacked in finding the proportions. There were hardly a couple of scenes that was really funny. Neither the story nor the plot felt fulfilling. Story was weak, didn't cover much but just revolved around the technical advances of Wakanda's super secret city and its rituals. Plot could have been better, didn't have much coverage either. Killmonger was shown the main villain, but for some reason Klaw seemed a better and audience loving villain who got killed in a jiffy. Killmonger needed a stronger background and story showing him more competitive to the black panther, but it was just his muscles, attitude and an american accent that took more coverage (oh i missed "Nay". You'll know what i mean). Black Panther is not as much a negative movie as i might have made it sound, but the expectations for various reason were so high, that the movie just failed to meet it. Although it is a definite 1 time watcher, but one lacks the content of having watched a full-package Marvel movie simply because there just wasn't enough of everything.

Black Panther a one time watcher if you are a Marvel's fan. Else the film will interest you only in parts.

Getting an honest review was practically impossible because they couldn’t get past the identity of the movie and just tell me if it’s a good story. So here’s my honest review!

Black Panther is very good movie, if you like Marvel movies it’s definitely worth it and I’d even say it’s one of the better ones. Visuals are stunning, fights are great (overused shaking camera though), and my favorite is the aesthetics of the tribal/super advanced Wakanda. It has that same cool flavor Asgard had in Thor. Just really neat to see the culture of Wakanda. Very imaginative. The main character is ok, but it works out as his supporting cast compliments him rather well. He’d be too stoic and boring without them. The movie has 2 villain. Andy Serkis is absolutely fantastic as ‘Claw’ and I loved every minute of him. Warmonger is the primary villain, and though threatening, is rather typical as a hate filled villain who wishes evil on the world cause he’s bad. I wish the movie had ‘Claw’ as the primary villain for a number of reasons I’ll get to in the story.
The story is where it gets dicey. -minor spoilers-
Overall it’s about the main character, T’Challa, ascending to the throne, as we see how the Wakandan culture works, before hunting ‘Claw’ who not only discovered Wakanda, and is thus a threat, but also murdered Wakandans to steal Vibranium. The tribes of Wakanda are seeing how their new king will deal with what even the last king couldn’t deal with. However an African-American (and yes, that’s actually important) comes to use Wakanda’s technology to kill all non-blacks. Now that last part seems to come out of west field... and you’d be right. Everything with Killmonger is odd in the story sense.
-end minor spoilers-

So it appears that Warmonger’s primary purpose is to have a central message regarding race. The message is overall good, ‘Let go of the sins of the past, the sins of your race and move forward’ however I’m more interested in good stories, and Wakanda has nothing to do with this message and the story stumbles because of it. That’s an African-American message, but it takes place in Africa, in a fictional place that has never been enslaved, had slaves, or even cared about slavery until recently, and that’s regarding Africans enslaving Africans. They only care about Wakanda. You can put Warmonger in any movie and have the exact same message. He doesn’t bounce off the other characters very well or the plot since he has no one to relate to. He’s just a racist that came to do genocidal racist things. Warmonger would have to be in a movie with another African-American who he could relate and dig deeper into that message. The movie would have greatly benefited if he stuck to his other revenge motivation.

Only other gripe I can make is there’s a really, really bad CGI rhino. You can’t miss it.

Good Movie, I wish it didn't feel the need to put a race message that is incompatible to the rest of the story and confuses the motivations of a possibly good antagonist. Could have just been an awesome super hero story.

But ultimately inBlack Panther was an awesome movie in general. Built out the character more than was expected, as in introducing some back story to him, and expending on a piece of the Marvel Universe that many people wouldn't know about. But ultimately in the hype and general build up towards it's release, it does fail in living up to the character that should have been shown. Without going into too many spoilers, as a King of a nation, genius, enterpeturer and all round good guy, one would expect that a person of this calibre, who has shown foreigners in the past and present much respect and forgiveness, who has shown general wisdom throughout the Marvel plot line, would actually shown their own citizens more respect and thoughtfulness. The story does seem to meter out after the first half boiling down to a generic "The sins of the father are to be laid upon the children" fiasco, while being somewhat good, it does become too clean cut. Also in my own preference, there should have been scenes in the "language" of Wakanda in the movie throughout, not just when a change of country occurred or they didn't feel like speaking the native language within the Capital of their own city, this did break the authenticity of the narrative to a degree. It's another feather in the cap of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, do with it as you like. Expand

The movie, from opening to closing, is special effects whether between the actors or in the background or car chases, battle sequences, even in hand to hand combats. Talking about things like fights and car chases, why have one of each when you can have two? Also, let’s have two villains instead of one plus instead of an all-white cast with one, maybe two faces of color, here we have an all-black cast with two white faces.

As with other sci-fi movies this runs around 20 minutes too long but this, in a way, distinguishes itself by having 2or 3 more storylines, even going for Shakespearean plots here and there of kings and queens, family treachery and rivalry. All in all, at certain times it gets convoluted and you just have to shake your head and skip on to the next special effect.

Chadwick Boseman does a fine job as the Black Panther but Winston Duke who challenges Boseman and is another Black Panther at times, except for the shifting color of his costume, makes a good rival. The two scene stealers are Andy Serkis as an over the top villain and Letitia Wright as Boseman’s sister who can cracks jokes that are hilarious, that make you laugh out loud and can walk into any James Bond film as Q and steal that movie from Bond.

Also in the cast are Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, Daniel Kaluuyya, Lupita Nyong’o and Sterling K. Brown. It was directed by Ryan Coogler, who also wrote the screenplay with Joe Robert Cole, with a lo0t of help- from the editors Michael P. Shawver and Debbie Berman.

Along with Letitia Wright the musical score by Ludwig Goransson are the two outstanding features of the movie.

“Black Panther” will obviously appeal to the millions of sci-fi fans and Marvel comic followers and by the same token not appeal to the rest, like me!

They promised to show us something that (at least) felt new and it did that. I wouldn't say it's perfect, there were some scenes that popped out to me as feeling a bit goofy or sloppy, but maybe on repeat viewings I'd have a different opinion. Overall very impressive. Compared to other MCU movies for me personally it's behind The Avengers and Winter Soldier, but ahead of most everything else.

I literally felt a range of emotions with this movie. I liked that it paused to talk tech when needed, its really interesting stuff. I liked that the movie had actual stakes and made me worried for certain characters. It did a very good job.

One other point: Anyone giving this a negative review either has an agenda of their own or is being confronted by something that makes them feel uncomfortable. There's no rational way this movie deserves a negative review, given everything it does really well. It might be fair to be mixed about it, and it might not be a 10 either. 7 or 8 is realistically fair, I'm giving it an 8 because it did so many things right, way more than it did wrong.

Everything was good, characters, storyline, camerawork, idea, and development. The problem of racism. Since Marvel making movie mainly for young audience 8-16yo, they should talk about such problems, because ofter movies and cartoons are the sources of stereotypes. This is not typical marvel's movie, there is no lots of explosions or even worldwide problems, no super-villain like Altron or Thanos who want to destroy all humanity. CGI wasn't so clear, right, but it's not Transformers or Avatar who spent lots of money on it. This film is not for the audience who came to see a great CGI movie. You might see it even from a trailer, it's not so typical like Avengers: Infinity War with tons of pathos. IMO, haters are 10yo or they just came to see a typical huge scale of the problem. The great idea to unite technology, culture, and traditions, great dialogues, great acting, this film was good almost in everything, only CGI was not so good, but i don't think this is a huge problem. And yea, the OST was really awesome.
P.S. Sorry for my bad English.

"In the case of the American Negro, from the moment you are born every stick and stone, every face, is white. Since you have not yet seen a mirror, you suppose you are, too...

...It comes as a great shock to discover that the country which is your birthplace and to which you owe your life and identity has not, in its whole system of reality, evolved any place for you.”

"when you open your eyes on the world, everything you see: none of it applies to you…

...It comes as a great psychological collision…”

-- James Baldwin

These words epitomise a very real experience to most BAME children. It’s a ‘privilege’ that white children (even into adulthood) aren’t able to access. That trauma packaged in that subconscious epiphany, the internalisation that the ‘default' does not include you. Thus begins our Infernum, our Hades, our mortal plight, our perpetual identity crisis; a restructuring of self to find a suitable form congruent to the social cues that confront us.

There’s a disparity of self that occurs when having to navigate society. Detaching one’s self from one’s race, Dorothy being rooted out Kansas, to function within the ‘default’ yet always being reminded that you don’t belong, your form is not valid.

I say all this to emphasise the relevance of Marvel’s latest film, Black Panther. [Beyond me just being a bit of a comic geek, lol]. Marvel’s Black Panther is more than just a comic movie, it’s a piquant vehicle #Mutlidimensional.

There was a sensation that I felt while I sat in the BFI IMax, it was new yet nostalgic, I couldn’t quite articulate it at the time other than a feeling of serenity and ease. Only this morning was I able to consolidate the experience and process that novelty yet nostalgia; I was transported back to a time that resonates in James Baldwin’s words, a time before society held a mirror up to my infant mind (or rather a time before I became aware of that mirror), a time before I realised I was not the ‘default’, not white.

The beauty of that moment (2hrs 15min) made me aware of a phenomena that had been as imperceptible as breathing. That Dorothy effect, that astral projection out of a racialised body in order to relate to storylines and characters in a sea of media that on a superficial level don’t represent you. Though, sitting there in my seat I was able to consume freely; there wasn’t that extra expense to relate. It was palatable without me having to escape my body or escape the woes that society thrusts at me as a mirror. The scenes were familiar, culturally as well as aesthetically, the rhythms of the movie connected with my breathing. There was a flourish of ease and serenity, that’s literally the only way I can best express at this time.

Beyond my own experience, the vehicular nature of this film offers a fantastic opportunity to white folk as well. It allows the white individual an awareness. It’s an opportunity to escape their bodies outside of the ‘default’ and exercise this layer of detaching and relating to a hero (not a slave/victim/help), an entire cast and a narrative that’s altogether foreign aesthetically, culturally and historically. This contrasts the POC experience of escaping their racialised bodies to bridge on to the ‘default’; whereas white individuals may escape their bodies and bear a glimpse of being racialised, an eye opener to whiteness juxtaposed to ‘other’.

Another strong aspect that the movie delivers; it transports all of us to an alternate timeline. To an Africa that blossomed outside of the jaws of colonialism. Where all the resources stayed connected to the land and evolved into a technological empire that married tradition with technological functionality. What Africa could have been without being stripped of its people and its material resources, and an infrastructure to properly manufacture and regulate corresponding technologies.

I didn’t want to jump on this whole hype, but the movie was beautiful on the notion that it offered me a serenity I haven’t felt while watching comic movies. I’m definitely watching again.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Good CGI but no story. 2 hours 15 minutes of your dad killed my dad I want revenge. It was hard for me to get into the zone of the fantasy as well when people dressed up like aborigine tribesman, people wearing loin clothes and plates in their ears and mouths, are standing next to space ships. I understand the need to maintain your culture and heritage but the overkill effect made it hard for me to get sucked in. Imagine all the astronauts on the international space station dressed like Neanderthals and then try to get in a serious groove. Expand

Frankly I find it offense, as I did not enjoy this movie and I am certainly not a racist. The movie is extremely immature, features very bad acting, and Wakanda is a xenophobic fascist place I just cannot root for. In my opinion Black Panther is one of the worst super "hero" (Black Panther isn't very heroic) movies in recent memory. I am giving it a 2 because there are some neat visuals. Expand

The whole cast works so great together, especially with Chadwick Boseman's strong lead performance, and Michael B. Jordan's equally strong villain. The story, action, and visuals are all top-notch, and it never gets too silly or carried away with itself like most of the Marvel films do (even though that's what makes them fun either way), but it definitely is refreshing to see a bigger breath of maturity in this film than what I'm used to with most of the other Marvel films. Overall, yes it does have important social commentary behind it too that may seem to take precedence over the actual story and everything else, but really if you ask me, I thought that it blended very well with the rest of the film's aspects. Again, to reiterate, this really is one of Marvel's stronger efforts in recent memory. Expand

My boyfriend dragged me to see this last night... it was really boring and seemed to have a huge chip on its shoulder. The action scenes were blurry and hard to follow too. I can enjoy a good action movie now and then but this one sucked!!!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Leaving aside the normal 3-act superhero melodrama, which is extremely boring and nothing you haven't seen before, I have to say this movie has some really bizarre wish-fulfillment politics in it. I'm surprised that black viewers aren't more offended by the rather cynical and pandering themes here, and the way it erases the very real difficulties Africa is struggling with in favor of fantasy escapism. It's doubly obnoxious that this is being done as a cash grab by the Disney corporation, but that's Hollywood for you. Expand

This is how any comic book movie should be made, in fact, it's how most good or great comic book movies like; 'Spider-Man 2' (2004), 'The Dark Knight' (2008), 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' (2014) and 'Logan' (2017) were made. Under the direction of Ryan Coogler ('Fruitvale Station' and 'Creed'), this movie draws on deep themes, is filled with emotion, and has some of the most well-developed characters in the Marvel Universe. This movie depends more on substance than it does on style. The movie takes place not long after the events of 'Captain America: Civil War' (2016) and we see T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman) preparing to return to his home, Wakanda, after the civilians mourn the death of their former King, T'Chaka (John Kani), it is now T'Challa's place to take the throne and be the rightful king. We get a very well detailed glimpse into the somewhat advanced world of Wakanda and the culture. Despite it being a fictional location, Coogler, along with his usual collaborators of production designers and cinematographers, make Wakanda feel real. You feel like this is an actual location filled with people who have a belief system. Our main villain is Eric Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan) who has an agenda against Wakanda, and what they do with the rarest metal on earth, the vibranium (same metal used for Black Panther's costume and Captain America's Shield). He gets help from Klaue (Andy Serkis) to steal an artifact and travel to Wakanda and take what he thinks was stolen from him. 'Black Panther' is one of Marvel's best films alongside; 'Iron Man' (2008), 'The Avengers' (2012), 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' (2014) and 'Captain America: Civil War' (2016). Ryan Coogler does an impressive job to develop the Black Panther's story well and show his arc and what he learns. Boseman once again, proves he is this character, and shares some terrific chemistry with Lupita Nyong'o and Letitla Wright who play his love interest and sister respectively. Also, a lot of the supporting cast do a fantastic job at contributing to the movie. Not one of them feel as if they were wasted. Some of the final battle scenes do suffer from an overabundance of CGI which does make the film - or those scenes in particular - feel incomplete and animated. But, the engaging story and emotionally investing characters are enough to make this worth the Marvel formula. Also, thankfully, the humor is kept extremely minimal. It's not one-joke-a-minute like 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' (2017), where when a dramatic moment happens, it's cut off by comedy. Here, Ryan Coogler allows all of the emotional and deep moments to sink in and stick with you. Also, Killmonger is one of the best MCU villains since Obidiah Stane and Loki, simply because he has an agenda, and there is a good amount of screen-time devoted to developing his character and his reasons for what he does. Coogler has made one of the most interesting entries in the MCU, and right now, 'Avengers: Infinity War' (2018) is even more exciting than ever. Expand

T'Challa feels like an extremely different lead character in a big action movie, especially an MCU one, his story presented in the movie isn't one about how a flawed character becomes a hero, it's the story of what comes after, of a Hero and a King doing what he has prepared his whole life to do. T'Challa is supported by a great set of supporting characters, highlights being Okaye and Kilmonger.

Eric Kilmonger is the main antagonist to T'Challa and he's as much a child as T'Challa is mature. With an extremely painful past and the best of intentions, he might be the most interesting antagonist Marvel has put to screen till now. I wish they could have shown even more of him and less of Klaue, even though Klaue was a really fun addition to the movie. But perhaps the most interesting character in the movie is the nation of Wakanda itself, properly developed like Asgard never was. Seeing so many different and interesting aspects of Wakanda throughout the movie was an absolute treat. And the refreshing score combined with the awe inspiring visuals truly brought Wakanda to life.

This movie makes me really excited for the future of the MCU. I hope they keep making more and more different movies like this. For now, the future of MCU looks as beautiful as a sunset does in Wakanda.

The action sequences and fight scenes are spectacular, but that's not what sells the movie. It's very well cast, and the actors all perform brilliantly, and, unlike DC movies, Marvel is not afraid to have lots of dialogue and conversation scenes. The end result is that you care about the characters and feel with them and for them are you're never confused about their motivations and drives. It's also quite beautifully executed. Expand
