Black Adam was so much fun! It was action-packed and funny, with a fun cast of characters. It was like the exact opposite of phase four Marvel. Another movie of the DCU. The good story is convincing and foremost the great The Rock Dwayne Johnson, a fantastic actor with a lot of potential, knock one off the chair. The CGI's are also impressive and all in all the movie is worthAnother movie of the DCU. Since 2019, the movies of the DCU have been a lot better than the Marvel movies, which unfortunately have become so abysmal since the death of the great Stan Lee that it hurts inside. I hope that WOKE-Disney sells Marvel as soon as possible (Lucasfilm too!), otherwise I see no future for these two great franchises.
Two points deducted for race-swapping some characters, which is annoying. Otherwise a very successful, well-made DCU movie.… Expand

Very entertaining superhero film that imposes a superman like protagonist and dominating everybody who stands in their way. Most of the characters are dragged down by nonsense writing and is more filler than flavor. Clarity of ending of the movie was somewhat satisfactory, leaving more to be desired. I'll be the first to admit not being a fanatical follower of Dwayne.... but the film is very entertaining. Not a masterpiece but it's worth a matinee ticket. The story spends time developing the world and circumstances our antihero is made in which enhances our appreciation of the plot and allows newcomers to the character a chance to learn about him.

As someone who watches almost every comic book film adaptation, I would recommend this film as I enjoyed it very much due to its engaging treatment of a brand new set of characters previously unseen on the screen. Standout performances were done by Pierce Brosnan, Dwayne Johnson, and Bodhi Sabongui. Greatest strength: DC explores a complex world where life is not simply good versus evil. Grey areas permeate the lives of the people and the antihero of Kahndaq.

Weakness: Needs more character development for the final villain. Beginning of film uses a lot of native language which is good for story building, but could have used more English in my opinion.… Expand

This is what fans want to see, this is how these movies should be made. And an absolute epic showdown incoming that is already building excitement.

No one should have the slightest interest what the 'critics' have to say - very rarely do they write reviews focused on the actual content anymore. They are the antithesis of what art and movie-making represents - and they are gloriously being drowned out by this fantastic film. Thank you Rocky!… Expand

In the era we live in, it might as translate to a Best Picture Oscar contender. It was better than some of the drivel in the inconsistent mess that is DC extended universe, but that's not saying very much. I can be pleasantly surprised by the Rock NOT dragging down the film with his acting. There are many ways in which the direction, writing, editing and even casting could have been improved, but 'Black Adam' kept me fairly engaged for two hours, and that's all I can ask for films nowadays.… Expand

I didn’t know a lot about Black Adam going into the movie, but I’d heard and seen a lot of reviews as they have been hard to avoid. The reviews for Black Adam here on Metacritic are definitely a case of when the critics and users don’t agree.I didn’t know a lot about Black Adam going into the movie, but I’d heard and seen a lot of reviews as they have been hard to avoid. The reviews for Black Adam here on Metacritic are definitely a case of when the critics and users don’t agree. I think the users are more accurate this time. I’ve even read a few were I’m not sure if they actually saw the movie. It’s a great COMIC movie. Probably one of the best that WB and DC have made. If you go in expecting anything more, you’ll likely be disappointed. There is so much here that was fresh. I like a lot of the action sequences, but I loved that they put both feet completely in the antihero aspect. Black Adam doesn’t care if he hurts or kills anyone and I believed The Rock in that role. Now, a lot of the plot was easy to see coming, but there were a few twist that I didn’t see coming. Like a lot of these movies there are annoying third act issues. As the plot progresses you can tell that it’s not ending so the decision to immediately undo what they just accomplished is frustrating. Most of the acting is fine, but there are some strange choices from the “people” of the region and the kid. I think this is more of a director issue possibly not know what they wanted at the time of filming or maybe were the movie was going. All of this said, if you liked Aquaman I think that you will enjoy this.… Expand

As usual critics are slamming DC because it’s not washed out marvel. this movie has its ups and downs but the ups pack a punch ! from black Adam killing people with his power to him ripping the big bad in half like it’s mortal kombat this movie brings some darkness we needed in todays pg movies. But what makes it even better is the mid credit scene ! Our Superman returns ! let’s hope that with the Rocks power and him listening to the fans we might get Zack Snyder back in action and revive DC… Expand

Ok where do I start? This movie was just ok for me. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is him and what we expect of "him". His acting and charisma is and will always be top-tier no matter what he does. Now that that's out the way, the movie was justOk where do I start? This movie was just ok for me. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is him and what we expect of "him". His acting and charisma is and will always be top-tier no matter what he does. Now that that's out the way, the movie was just ok. The action was DC type action and I'm saying that to the story is usually average but the action was in your face and smash mouth and of course they did the slo-mo thing DC does. The story just lacked a lot it seemed like. I love the setting in Black Adams native land and bringing it to modern day, but the kid and mom became almost annoying to the point I was wondering why are they still a major part of the story and not to knock the actors but just did seem like a likely story line for Black Adam. The last thing I will say is why is this kid riding around on a skateboard in set pieces that looked like it was from a 90s era movie. Overall I would still recommend to watch, but not at the movie theater wait till its available for stream.… Expand

I get why critics hate it. How dare a movie just be fun and cater to the male audience these days :D ok, my girlfriend also had a lot of fun... Finally Big Super heroes team again! Goodbye to the latest floppy of Marvel’s big team, Eternals (2021). Marvel still failed to make a great big superhero team again, after the Avenger's end. Wait, how about Marvel’s Guardian of The Galaxy or the new Thor Adventure?
Umm.. that’s so a different market compared to the Avengers. So, it seems DC Comics is ready to rock their failure by casting The Rock as Black Adam. To rockin’ more, this movie cast a huge cast such as old James Bond, Pierce Brosnan. Demand more rock? There is a rock song from one of the greatest bands, The Rolling Stone.

The movie story is pretty odd because some of them are doesn’t make sense. But, slowly but surely it is revealed to make it make sense, although it is still not plausible. Friendly reminder, this is very typical for superheroes movie, so plz don’t compare to sci-fi, mystery, or even Martin Scorsese’s movies. Superhero movies focused on moral values, motivation, inspiration, and any emotional things. Not a logical thing, for sure. But still, this movie story could be greater! Best DC Comics movie story still Batman or Watchmen (2009).

Besides, the visuals were pretty disappointing. It could be greater too!? Personally, my best DC Comic visuals, especially on CGI are the Aquaman or Batman movies. But, this movie still has affordable visuals.

However, this movie is so satisfying! Suitable paced not boring or too long narration, and vividly feels like a superhero ambiance. Also, these movie jokes are fit, not too much but still funny. We might be already bored with the typical funny guy hero movie such as Thor: Love and Thunder (2022). Rite? Another satisfaction is the chars. This movie tells us big superhero team, Justice Society. This must be an intro for new movies of the DC Comic blockbuster arc! This could be proven by the mid-credit scene, don’t miss it at the end of this movie! Besides, personally, I love Dr. Fate's char! His looks and persona are so fancy & very extravagant! Sadly, he didn’t the main char so just appeared occasionally. Lastly, great moral values are very typical of superheroes movie. This movie implied, RN, irl, we mustn't see anything through the binary lens, only black and white. But, it is politically proper and not too much or too vivid such as Thor: Love and Thunder (2022). Recap, better watch it! It seems important to catch up the next DC Comics superheroes, esp. upcoming Aquaman sequels! Claimed as a part of DC Extended Universes (DCEU). This movie is in a way a reboot of the DCEU, because several questions can be asked. Like where was the JSA in Man of Steel and Justice League.

Everyone was so in awe with Superman, when the Earth already had a kind of super man of the past called Black Adam, other superhuman characters. Several movies lose some sense seeing the JSA and the existence of Black Adam, proves that there is a far deeper history of the Earth that is only now being revealed.

And that is a huge flaw, because it raises questions that only harm the movies already done. Unless of course WB is now attempting to reboot the DCEU, but in such a soft way that it doesn't feel like a reboot.

As for the movie Black Adam... Can't really say I was surprised in the least with anything that happened. I had already guessed it right, how they were going to change Teth-Adam origin story to appeal to the viewers. So there was no surprise there, only the confirmation of my own theories.

Characters like Dr Fate (Pierce Brosnan), Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo) and Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell) deserved a movie before Black Adam. To give us more insight and a better understanding of their connection.

Pierce Brosnan was definitely brilliant as Dr Fate, landing his lines with the perfection expected of a grade A actor. And as a character, he deserved more than what he got in his movie.

The dynamic between the JSA members was refreshing, because there was no wokeness between Cyclone and the other characters. She was part of the team, and never once does she act as if she's superior to her male teammates, nor do they act superior to her.

As for Black Adam... It was Dwayne Johnson being himself. It was always clear that Johnson would never go along with the sometimes evil methods of the Black Adam of the comics, and so they adopted the more recent approach from the comics where Black Adam is more of an anti hero.

As for the character Adrianna Tomaz (Sarah Shahi) it's clear there was more she could've done or become, but unfortunately this movie is not about telling a great story balanced with some action scenes. This is an action movie with some story in there, just enough so people can understand what is happening.

It's clear that Adrianna Tomaz was set up to become Ísis, but that will demand sequels that at this point may or may not happen.

Overall, Black Adam is a movie that once it shifts to 5th gear it just doesn't stop. And like a Michael Bay Transformers movie, story is sacrificed in favor of action.

It's not a bad movie. Far from it. It's actually a good movie, and perhaps great for those looking for an action movie, but it could've been an overall great movie if they had left room for more.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Black Adam will entertain you, but it isn't a balanced film like most MCU films. MCU films have become a standard for superhero films. (I value DC a lot more than Marvel)

Positives: This film has a lot of action and a great VFX (except for that one weird red guy). Dwayne convinced me that he is Black Adam. Hawkman and Dr. Fate create intrigue. The clash serves very well since you won't be able to decide who you want to side with.

Worries: The story doesn't give us the chance to build emotional attachment/closeness to the justice society members. Too much was there to pack inside 125 minutes. We aren't made aware of their true motivations and goals; they just enter the story to deal with Black Adam. The mom-son duo is weirdly calm and easy-going in the middle of the ruins. The repetitive cliche plot of a kid who creates "hope". Buildings are becoming dust and superheroes are fighting, but these two maintain their looks. And then Sabbac... that is where you F'ed up. He looks terrible.

And yes, before you trash DC, understand that Doctor Fate was launched before Doctor Strange, and Atom Smasher was launched before Ant-Man (the latter's design also copied by Marvel).… Expand

I will say that the rock is great as black adam. And the ending where it shows how he got his powers, definitely moving and heartfelt. Didn't see that coming at all, refreshing to see. The most notable of these is, of course, the degree of anti-heroism displayed by the titular character. Make no mistake, no huge "lines" are crossed here, but the wrathfulness is undeniably fun to watch nonetheless. This thing moves quite briskly as well — sometimes to its own detriment. With that, though, I can say I was never bored while watching this. There's always something going on, a lot of which works. Other things don't. A few of the side characters are a bit grating. A portion of the humor doesn't land. Effects waver in quality on occasion. Johnson, Brosnan and Hodge are quite good, though. Tho, really good and enjoyable to watch, his take is, in truth, a far cry from every iteration of the character that's ever existed in any medium prior. Basically, it's not really Black Adam, it's The Rock's Black Adam.
The villain is so distant, I don't even hate him - the movie doesn't make you care enough to.
Dr Fate was good. Adrianna and her son (especially her son) were also standouts for me.
But the movie's just such a letdown overall from what I expected. A 6/10, IMO.… Expand

The plot is simple and quite predictable, sometimes even illogical. You get the feeling the fight scenes although very well made, are just there to show off, with no reale purpose. The justice league fight Black Adam even though they know they cannot beat him. The low point was the decision of Fate (which by the way is the most powerful of the Justice League) to die at the hands of the main villain just because he is bored with life?! Black Adam was one of my highly anticipated movies of the year for me and it delivered on some aspects while others did not.

One thing I will say about this movie was that it was entertaining, The Action was really awesome and sort ofBlack Adam was one of my highly anticipated movies of the year for me and it delivered on some aspects while others did not.

One thing I will say about this movie was that it was entertaining, The Action was really awesome and sort of reminded me of Man of Steel's action set pieces that felt big, spectacular, and visually striking. The action scenes were really the best part of this movie and every time Black Adam was in an action scene it felt exciting and not just the Black Adam action scenes but characters like Doctor Fate, Hawkman, Cyclone and Atom Smasher all had good action scenes.

Big credit to Jaume Collet-Serra, the man knows how to direct stellar action scenes and not just the action the visuals and CGI in this movie were just beautiful and some even jaw-dropping. The visuals involving Doctor Fate especially were great along with Cyclone too. This movie was clearly one of the most visually impressive Superhero movies I've ever watched including the action.

The characters overall were decent, I was really looking forward to Pierce Brosnan's Doctor Fate and he was the best character for me. Pierce Brosnan gave a really good performance and every time Doctor Fate was on screen it Felt special, and his chemistry with Hawkman (Hawkman was a decent character as well and his action scenes vs Black Adam were some of the best parts of the movie,Aldis Hodge gives a good performance too) was nice also scenes between Cyclone and Atom Smasher were charming.

Now for Black Adam himself, The Rock has the perfect look for Black Adam I think he was the perfect casting and in this movie he does give a good performance, he's intense, funny at times and sympathetic but my Number one issue with this movie is that it's NOT A BLACK ADAM STORY. As someone who reads comics, it's kinda disappointing to see this version of Black Adam, They go more with the heroic route not exactly the FULL Anti Hero route either when in the comics he starts off as a pure villain then works his way to being more of an Anti-Hero whereas in this he starts off as an Anti-Hero and ends up in this weird mix between Hero/Anti-Hero they fully don't commit to either which is jarring for the story and kind of won’t make sense if he were to go up against Shazam or Superman in the future with the story they told.

Also, some moments felt like I was watching a Marvel movie(not the good kind), like some of the humor felt corny and awkward and honestly, Superhero movies/Hollywood movies kinda need to stir away from MCU awkward/forced humor and come up with something unique. I mean it dealt with humor well for the most part and better than recent Marvel movies to be honest just some scenes felt corny and awkward, especially for a DC movie. Also the villain was generic and shoehorned in the last act of the movie too but the action scenes between the main villain and JSA/Black Adam were good.

Another point is characters like Amon and Adrianna Tomaz who were connecting to Black Adam were decent but turned into annoying characters at times especially the Kid who had a fanboy relationship with Black Adam was annoying similar to Ironman 3 with some scenes between The Kid and Black Adam being the worst scenes in the movie. The tone of Black Adam was balanced mostly well between serious moments and comedic scenes despite the awkward humor and corniness in some scenes as I mentioned and the pacing was really well done too between the story and action.

So overall despite my complaints about the average to the sometimes mediocre story, awkward humor and some corny scenes I was mostly entertained with this movie the action was honestly great to epic at times. The visuals and CGI were great and stunning at times. Characters like Doctor Fate, Hawkman, Karim(who was the comic relief) who was funny and the Rock as Black Adam who does a good job portraying Black Adam and pulls off the look of comic Black Adam, and his action scenes were amazing despite not really being a comic accurate Black Adam story and ends up being this weird mix between Hero/Ant-Hero. I HAD FUN though which is the most important part and for the first time in a long time I have hope for the future of the DCEU and finally, the post-credit scene alone is a 10/10!!… Expand

After a very long development hell, Black Adam finally made it to the big screen not only as the eleventh instalment of the DC Extended Universe but with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as the title character who have been attached to the role for decades.

In the year of 2600 BC, a young boy in Kahndaq was given the power of Shazam by the Council of Wizards which he used the power to kill King Ahk-Ton, the tyrannical ruler of the country. His crown known as the Crown of Sabbac was hidden by the wizards and the champion who killed the king was never heard again.

In the present day, Kahndaq is now occupied by an international criminal organisation called Intergang, who have turned the country into a safe haven for dangerous criminals and mercenaries while exploiting the country’s natural resources and oppressing the people. The people of Khandaq are hoping for the champion to return and restore order to the country. An archaeologist and resistance-fighter, Adrianna Tomaz, is searching the Crown of Sabbac with the help of her brother Karim and their colleagues, Samir and Ishmael Gregor (Kenzari), to prevent it from falling into the hands of Intergang.

Once they recovered the crown, they were attack by Intergang and in the process, Adrianna awaken the champion whose name is Teth-Adam/Black Adam (Johnson). He kills the Intergang soldiers while Adrianna manage to get the crown. Black Adam’s emergence attracts the attention of Justice Society. Led by Adrian Carter/Hawkman, he along with the other heroes which consists of Kent Nelson/Dr. Fate (Brosnan), Albert Rothstein/Atom Smasher and Maxine Hunkel/Cyclone to stop him from causing more destruction in Kahndaq.

When Black Adam finally arrived on the big screen, I was really excited for the movie since the movie was in developement hell so long as far as I can remember. Unfortunately, the movie is not exactly what I thought it to be. While the movie has tons of action scenes and great special effects but the movie does not have much character developments and the story is mediocre at best. I felt the movie put too much focus on the former than the latter.

The use of Justice Society in this movie also took some spotlight away from Black Adam since this is supposed to be his solo movie. I think they should have been reserved for future movies instead of featuring in a first solo movie. Even other superhero movies focus on their title character first in their first solo movie before others. In addition, the heroes of Justice Society do not have much character developments too. They just appeared in this movie out of nowhere with no backstory on how the team was formed in the first place.

The good thing about this movie is the performance of the cast especially Dwayne Johnson and Pierce Brosnan. I can tell that Dwayne really gave his best acting for this movie ever since he have been attached to the role for so long. I guess it is safe to say that it paid off. There are other characters from the previous movies also show up in this one but I will not reveal who it is. At least, the movie tried to stay consistent.

In the nutshell, Black Adam is neither a good nor a bad movie. It is just an OK movie and nothing really special. Do stay back for a mid-credits scene because there is someone in that scene we have not seen that person for a long time.… Expand

I think this movie is literally average movie, nothing more than this. If some battle scene gives you satisfaction, the other one can't give this feeling. Короче фильм у меня вызывал, то там то здесь, один вопрос: "Как это возможно?". И это касается не сцен с супер силой, это понятно, а сцен из "нормальной" жизни людей.
Пример:
Вот они идут втроём в пещеру, а вот один уже упал со скалы и никто этого не заметил - Как это?
Корона весит 5000 лет посреди пещеры в воздухе, её ищут в этом месте многие поколения людей и не могут найти - Как это?
Авторы всё время путаются с летоисчислением. 2600 лет д. н. эры + 2022 года нашей у них складывается в число = 5000 лет - Как это?
Измаил вообще говорит, что уже 5000 лет!!! его родственники передают из уст в уста историю о наследии трона. Да за 5000 лет целые расы исчезали, а у этого только генеалогия раз 20 длинее чем у французских королей - Как это?
И таких вопросов много, но ответ у авторов один - "А вот так!!!"
Ещё во всех анонсах говорилось, что эта история будет связана с уже вышедшими фильмами вселенной DC, но кроме А. Уоллер и Супермена после титров, никого лично я не заметил. Все герои новые. Сопереживать некому. Почему то мне сразу стало понятно, что все выживут. За дока Фейта сильно не расстроился из за выше сказанного. А вот, кстати, Железного человека в "Мстителях" жалко было, к нему успел привыкнуть.
Что касается визуальной части, то здесь всё на высоте. Всё летит, взрывается. Красота.
Сюжет простоват, но для 12 - 16 летних подростков вполне прокатит.
Фильм, как по мне, стоит в одном ряду с марвеловским "Шан-Чи и легенда десяти колец". Смотреть можно, но не более.… Expand

This movie looks cool, but you don't want to think too hard about what's happening or you would not enjoy this movie. If you want to see some action superhero movie just for the fights this one is fine. If you are looking for more... keep looking.

A pesar de ser una película de presentación de un héroe (o antihéroe) y a pesar de que cuenta prácticamente lo mismo de siempre, Black Adam es, muy diferente (aparentemente), del resto de películas basadas en cómics.

Es correcta, no sorprende demasiado (cosa que le perjudica), y tiene algún agujero/contradicción en el guion que hubiese molado mucho más si incidiera (como el mensaje en el que se centra en toda la peli).
Para mi gusto, le faltan más momentos de esos que recuerdas dentro de un tiempo, creo que a excepción de uno con el Dr. Fate poco más me voy a acordar de esta película.

· Cosas buenas: se diferencia de otras (a pesar de contar lo mismo que otras), tiene alguna secuencia de pelea que es fantástica y súper frenética. El reparto es maravilloso, aunque quizás algo desaprovechado, Dr. Fate me encantó. No se me hizo larga, la reflexión es interesante pero me habría gustado que incidiera más en "qué es ser un héroe", la música me pareció bastante chula y, cómo no, la ESCENA post-créditos, wow.
· Cosas malas: The Rock, lo siento pero nunca me gustó y dudo que me guste Dwayne Johnson, no lo trago ni le acabo de pillar el humor (por mucho que suba la ceja), demasiados efectos visuales en algunos momentos, la cámara lenta a lo Snyder me pone de los nervios. El montaje, con algunos errores y demasiado abuso del etalonaje (ya nos hemos enterado de que estamos en África, gracias), muchos clichés, poco guion (le falta incidir más en algunos personajes que podrían haber molado), el villano es horrible, y puede que tanta acción se te haga repetitiva.
· Conclusión: cuando salí del cine, salí contento, pensando en que me había gustado, cosa que es cierto, pero con una sensación extraña que consistía en una mezcla de pensamientos entre si la película está sobrecargada o subdesarrollada, y he llegado a la conclusión de que ambas, le sobran algunas partes, y faltan algunas partes, para mí, no se acabó de encontrar del todo.… Expand

The action is excellent, but the writing is pretty bad. When watching a DJ movie, you have to go into it with certain expectations and Black Adam is no exception. For all its flaws - and Black Adam has quite a few - it is not boring and therefore fulfills the main requirement for superhero movies.

Its a dumb film with tons of flaws including one worst villains ive ever seen, but its got some charm, Rock and a few other charecters were alright and fight scenes were pretty cool, so for a fun dumb action movie its quite good.

To be honest, I didn't know much about DC movies, but I loved MCU works, so I watched it with the expectation that I could feel that kind of thing.

At the beginning, it looks like Lord of the Rings and progresses with dark development, so it started with a series of scary scenes that make you think it's horror.
However, I apologize for the very bad expression in the middle battle scene, but I think it was a production, character, and technique that I have seen somewhere before. .
I don't know what the future of DC movies will be like, but I definitely wanted to experience the excitement of the MCU in DC. It was such a sad movie.… Expand

I am a fan of The Rock. He is funny and off-the-wall in a lot of his movies, which makes his over-the-top characters endearing. There is none of that in this movie - just a stoic anti-hero trying to discover his reason for existence. The RockI am a fan of The Rock.
