Honestly, the thing I was wanting to see the most in this movie, that being Kahndaq, has been terribly told and the film focus's more on the justice society, which when seeing Dr. Fate, made me not excited to see them. But even though Dr. Fate is the worst character overall, I don't think he is the worst character in the film. That Honor goes to Hawk man. Now I can tell that the actor is trying his best with the character, but with the script that he was given is the main reason why his character sucks, Like for example, He said that "Heroes don't kill people", But like Superman killed Zod at the end of Man of Steel and Wonder Woman killed Ares at the end of Wonder Woman 2017. So I don't get why Black Adam cant kill when even fricken Batman has killed people before. And he is just there to get his @$$ killed throughout the entire film. I think Atom Smasher is completely forgettable even though he is the best of the crew, Hurricane was also forgettable, Dr. fate was cool in some scenes or like his character from the Comics or Injustice 2 which are my least favorite versions of him. Sabbac is also a Terrible Villain. And I Found the final battle pretty underwhelming, Finally I Think the music should most definitely be used less. With that said, I don't hate this film, I think the Dwayne Johnson does a great job as the villain version of Black Adam (even though he is being set up more as a hero rather than a villain.) The action outside of the Final battle is pretty fun, And Black Adams Introduction was Fantastic. So while not a good film in my eyes. But I would rather you watch this than Halloween Ends.

5/10 Fun but Medicore

Black Adam is fueled by an earnest spirit and boasts a few effective action sequences, but so many of the half-baked story threads and silly plot twists were eye-roll and groan-inducing.

Dwayne Johnson and Pierce Brosnan shine as Black Adam and Dr Fate respectively, it's such a shame that Dr Fate was underplayed. I still don't get why Dr Fate was played down so much, it's such an audacious decision that makes absolutely no sense.

To sum it all, Black Adam can be entertaining if you can look past its horrible plot and dialogues, poor villain and generally paper-thin characters.

Action was quite good but characters where mid. Again, this is that kind of film where they felt like they need to once again, prove to us that a woman also can be a super hero or on high position in some evil organization. Otherwise this film was a two hour introduction of the new character that will appear in the background or in two or three scenes in the future films. Expand

They don't have a single moment that breaks the movie, but their presence is so ubiquitous that gradually the movie gathers mass like a snowball of irritation until the end is an avalanche. To be honest the rest of the movie hardly rises above this, but at least no other flaws are so front and center to the audience. This is an okay rental if you have something else to do like laundry or an online bartender certification. Expand

The screenwriters must have struggled to write the character of "Black Adam", as he presents himself as a brooding anti-hero but there is little that he does to suggest this other than regular assertions that he isn't a hero. Many serious moments of his are often undercut by cringey attempts at humor. Although this is a regular occurrence in super-hero films (and much maligned, by the way), it feels entirely out of character and unnecessary for the Black Adam they are presenting to us. His conflict with the heroes of the Justice Society was intended to further reinforce his anti-hero persona, but they instead come across as the aggressors while also being completely oblivious to the actual villains in front of them. The Rock is good for this role, but the script failed him. On the positive side, the enjoyable performances of the supporting characters help to stabilize this film, and the action is very entertaining. Expand

Black Adam was one of my highly anticipated movies of the year for me and it delivered on some aspects while others did not.

One thing I will say about this movie was that it was entertaining, The Action was really awesome and sort of reminded me of Man of Steel's action set pieces that felt big, spectacular, and visually striking. The action scenes were really the best part of this movie and every time Black Adam was in an action scene it felt exciting and not just the Black Adam action scenes but characters like Doctor Fate, Hawkman, Cyclone and Atom Smasher all had good action scenes.

Big credit to Jaume Collet-Serra, the man knows how to direct stellar action scenes and not just the action the visuals and CGI in this movie were just beautiful and some even jaw-dropping. The visuals involving Doctor Fate especially were great along with Cyclone too. This movie was clearly one of the most visually impressive Superhero movies I've ever watched including the action.

The characters overall were decent, I was really looking forward to Pierce Brosnan's Doctor Fate and he was the best character for me. Pierce Brosnan gave a really good performance and every time Doctor Fate was on screen it Felt special, and his chemistry with Hawkman (Hawkman was a decent character as well and his action scenes vs Black Adam were some of the best parts of the movie,Aldis Hodge gives a good performance too) was nice also scenes between Cyclone and Atom Smasher were charming.

Now for Black Adam himself, The Rock has the perfect look for Black Adam I think he was the perfect casting and in this movie he does give a good performance, he's intense, funny at times and sympathetic but my Number one issue with this movie is that it's NOT A BLACK ADAM STORY. As someone who reads comics, it's kinda disappointing to see this version of Black Adam, They go more with the heroic route not exactly the FULL Anti Hero route either when in the comics he starts off as a pure villain then works his way to being more of an Anti-Hero whereas in this he starts off as an Anti-Hero and ends up in this weird mix between Hero/Anti-Hero they fully don't commit to either which is jarring for the story and kind of won’t make sense if he were to go up against Shazam or Superman in the future with the story they told.

Also, some moments felt like I was watching a Marvel movie(not the good kind), like some of the humor felt corny and awkward and honestly, Superhero movies/Hollywood movies kinda need to stir away from MCU awkward/forced humor and come up with something unique. I mean it dealt with humor well for the most part and better than recent Marvel movies to be honest just some scenes felt corny and awkward, especially for a DC movie. Also the villain was generic and shoehorned in the last act of the movie too but the action scenes between the main villain and JSA/Black Adam were good.

Another point is characters like Amon and Adrianna Tomaz who were connecting to Black Adam were decent but turned into annoying characters at times especially the Kid who had a fanboy relationship with Black Adam was annoying similar to Ironman 3 with some scenes between The Kid and Black Adam being the worst scenes in the movie. The tone of Black Adam was balanced mostly well between serious moments and comedic scenes despite the awkward humor and corniness in some scenes as I mentioned and the pacing was really well done too between the story and action.

So overall despite my complaints about the average to the sometimes mediocre story, awkward humor and some corny scenes I was mostly entertained with this movie the action was honestly great to epic at times. The visuals and CGI were great and stunning at times. Characters like Doctor Fate, Hawkman, Karim(who was the comic relief) who was funny and the Rock as Black Adam who does a good job portraying Black Adam and pulls off the look of comic Black Adam, and his action scenes were amazing despite not really being a comic accurate Black Adam story and ends up being this weird mix between Hero/Ant-Hero. I HAD FUN though which is the most important part and for the first time in a long time I have hope for the future of the DCEU and finally, the post-credit scene alone is a 10/10!!

TLDR: Black Adam is the latest film in the DCEU franchise starring Dwayne Johnson, Aldis Hodge and Pierce Brosnan. Black Adam isnt bad, but it isnt amazing.

The acting is passable in this film. I don’t mean that negatively towards any of the performances. I feel everyone was doing the best they could with the script they were given. My only small complaint is Dwayne Johnson plays himself like he does in everyone of his movies. This has a certain charm, but it would have been nice to see Black Adam sound and feel a bit different to Dwayne Johnson. The script is my biggest problem with the movie. It needed more time in the writing room. A lot of themes are half baked which is a shame. For instance, there are hints at a deeper friendship between Dr Fate and Hawkman but this is never really developed. Furthermore, Black Adam is supposed to be an antihero. This could have created a really interesting dynamic but it stopped short. I never felt any sense of the character being anything but a hero. He only killed people trying to kill him and they were obviously already bad. An opportunity was missed here.

The movie suffers from an overreliance on CGI like most modern superhero movies. What is worse, there were a few times in the film where the CGI was noticeably bad. If you are going to rely on CGI, then you need to ensure it is not obvious. To sum up…it is tolerable. It wont win any Oscars or Razzies and I don’t feel like a wasted my money on buying a ticket…especially with the after credits cameo. But, I was more excited during the cameo than I was in the whole film. I only hope a sequel would take full advantage of the character of Black Adam as this movie certainly has not.

The most notable of these is, of course, the degree of anti-heroism displayed by the titular character. Make no mistake, no huge "lines" are crossed here, but the wrathfulness is undeniably fun to watch nonetheless. This thing moves quite briskly as well — sometimes to its own detriment. With that, though, I can say I was never bored while watching this. There's always something going on, a lot of which works. Other things don't. A few of the side characters are a bit grating. A portion of the humor doesn't land. Effects waver in quality on occasion. Johnson, Brosnan and Hodge are quite good, though. In the end, I'd say, "Black Adam" is perfectly decent — and admittedly dumb — fun. Expand

There is a major problem when the best part of your movie is the post-credits scene and only because another and more famous superhero appears in it.

Dwayne Johnson wanted Black Adam to be many things and with that intention the film pretends too much while delivering mediocre results that also exposes what a crappy actor he is.

It remains to be seen what they will do with The Flash to get another idea about the franchise, but DC and Warner have shown once again that they don't have a damn plan regarding what they want to do with their cinematic universe. And that's because, film after film, there's simply nothing that can bring it to life.

Massive disappointment.

The beginning was fine except for there being a kid narrator. and then the movie suffers from anything that goes with a badly written child character. The action which there was plenty of was fun but not greatly choreographed. Smasher and Cyclones action was lackluster like they didn't know how to use them. Smasher himself only punched 2 times in the whole movie and was comedic relief the rest of the time. Cyclone for someone as smart as she is supposed to be, its clear the writers used her powers like a child would of. anime characters have used wind powers with far more imagination. Hawkman and Dr.Fate were great, both the characters and actors. sadly the writers depowered Dr.Fate as he alone is a match for Adam in the comics, and Hawkmans mace was not hitting anywhere near its power in the comics. Black Adam was a hero, not an anti hero and def not a bad guy in any shape or form in this movie. His very Dark Origin from the comics is compleatly turned around to give him a more loving twist. Instead of wanting all of the power he shares with his son and killing him to gain it as in the comics, his son just gives it to him to save his father and then the boy dies from arrows and Adam goes into grief riddled revenge. the final bad guy is a travasty, who is he, why do i care, idk, forgotten like the wind. the movie is not that great.

I liked the overall story when you look at it from afar, but when you dig into the details, that's where the movie misses its mark. The worst part from Black Adam is the dialogue, there's too many moments where you cringe and want to stuff your head in a pillow. It never found an identity or flow within the story, it tried to be too much in a 2 hour span. The writers could have taken a different approach with the political messaging and write about what's happening in the Middle East today, but decided to write a generic "we are oppressed by foreign invaders" story and never dove into it. I liked the major plot points that the story got to in each act, but again when looking into the details of how we got there thats where the story isn't as ironed out as it should be. The action is fun and looks great, but honestly you will enjoy this movie just as much by watching the action scenes on Youtube once it's released. Another high end DC movie and yet again they are still struggling to find their identity in the superhero genre. Expand

You should consider this production of Black Adam as a one-off; a dream of Dwayne Johnson that was finally cobbled together into reality, but expect the future iterations of Black Adam as well as the DCU to be portrayed completely different.

It's biggest problem: it is directed and made as if it was released in the early 2000s. There are many jarring pieces that are really out of place in today's superhero fares. The kid's entire dialogue, the weak villain amongst many. Hence, the lackluster performance worldwide of this flick. It's good that WB is under a new management. The things DC doesn't get right in my opinion: WAY to dramatic (half this movie is shot in slow motion and strings edge-of-your-seats moments together - it's exhausting!). But most problematic to me is that it firmly stays a comic book movie; a world and plot that are way too simplistic and made up that nothing feels 'real' about what you're seeing. Not real despite the (welcome) imperialistic critique in it's heavy handed undertone.

But I was entertained for most of it and I hope DC gets it as right as it did with the Nolan Batman series again some day.

They might be expecting a bit too much from their audience to assume they'll feel emotionally invested in C-listers like Atom Smasher and Cyclone. Now the fanboys in general and Dwayne Johnson in particular might argue that this 2 hr proof-of-concept demo is just mindless junk concocted to appease the insatiable appetite of comic book geeks, so don't even try to discuss it objectively. It is already painfully obvious that this whole shambolic SHAZAM universe is best left to writers like Alan Moore, whose Miracleman revision reminds us how good this COULD have been with a spoonful of irony. Saying this hurts, but Black Adam isn't the "great movie" it's being touted to be.
The necessary parts are there for it to have turned out truly great, but the screws are out of place. The biggest downer is Dwayne's interpretation of the titular Black Adam. Tho, really good and enjoyable to watch, his take is, in truth, a far cry from every iteration of the character that's ever existed in any medium prior. Basically, it's not really Black Adam, it's The Rock's Black Adam.
The villain is so distant, I don't even hate him - the movie doesn't make you care enough to.
Dr Fate was good. Adrianna and her son (especially her son) were also standouts for me.
But the movie's just such a letdown overall from what I expected. A 6/10, IMO.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is still a pretty good action hero movie but the potential was somewhat lost. The plot is simple and quite predictable, sometimes even illogical. You get the feeling the fight scenes although very well made, are just there to show off, with no reale purpose. The justice league fight Black Adam even though they know they cannot beat him. The low point was the decision of Fate (which by the way is the most powerful of the Justice League) to die at the hands of the main villain just because he is bored with life?! This cannot get more stupid than that. Expand

After a very long development hell, Black Adam finally made it to the big screen not only as the eleventh instalment of the DC Extended Universe but with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as the title character who have been attached to the role for decades.

In the year of 2600 BC, a young boy in Kahndaq was given the power of Shazam by the Council of Wizards which he used the power to kill King Ahk-Ton, the tyrannical ruler of the country. His crown known as the Crown of Sabbac was hidden by the wizards and the champion who killed the king was never heard again.

In the present day, Kahndaq is now occupied by an international criminal organisation called Intergang, who have turned the country into a safe haven for dangerous criminals and mercenaries while exploiting the country’s natural resources and oppressing the people. The people of Khandaq are hoping for the champion to return and restore order to the country. An archaeologist and resistance-fighter, Adrianna Tomaz, is searching the Crown of Sabbac with the help of her brother Karim and their colleagues, Samir and Ishmael Gregor (Kenzari), to prevent it from falling into the hands of Intergang.

Once they recovered the crown, they were attack by Intergang and in the process, Adrianna awaken the champion whose name is Teth-Adam/Black Adam (Johnson). He kills the Intergang soldiers while Adrianna manage to get the crown. Black Adam’s emergence attracts the attention of Justice Society. Led by Adrian Carter/Hawkman, he along with the other heroes which consists of Kent Nelson/Dr. Fate (Brosnan), Albert Rothstein/Atom Smasher and Maxine Hunkel/Cyclone to stop him from causing more destruction in Kahndaq.

When Black Adam finally arrived on the big screen, I was really excited for the movie since the movie was in developement hell so long as far as I can remember. Unfortunately, the movie is not exactly what I thought it to be. While the movie has tons of action scenes and great special effects but the movie does not have much character developments and the story is mediocre at best. I felt the movie put too much focus on the former than the latter.

The use of Justice Society in this movie also took some spotlight away from Black Adam since this is supposed to be his solo movie. I think they should have been reserved for future movies instead of featuring in a first solo movie. Even other superhero movies focus on their title character first in their first solo movie before others. In addition, the heroes of Justice Society do not have much character developments too. They just appeared in this movie out of nowhere with no backstory on how the team was formed in the first place.

The good thing about this movie is the performance of the cast especially Dwayne Johnson and Pierce Brosnan. I can tell that Dwayne really gave his best acting for this movie ever since he have been attached to the role for so long. I guess it is safe to say that it paid off. There are other characters from the previous movies also show up in this one but I will not reveal who it is. At least, the movie tried to stay consistent.

In the nutshell, Black Adam is neither a good nor a bad movie. It is just an OK movie and nothing really special. Do stay back for a mid-credits scene because there is someone in that scene we have not seen that person for a long time.

I actually believe that the casting is excellent for the majority of the roles, and you can almost see the shadow of what Mr. Johnson may have given had the direction been more successful. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So if this movie confirmed anything it was one thing, Dwayne Johnson isn't a real movie star, he simply cannot carry a top-tier movie. Johnson merely seems to be the ultimate ensemble actor who can boost a franchise, but on his own, he simply ain't got the chops. The new Arnie he certainly is not, confirmed.

Plot wise the whole thing is so basic and generic with little imagination in my opinion. Black Adam is accidentally resurrected from his tomb by a strong female character trying to uncover an ancient mcguffin. Black Adam is seen as a bad guy thusly the Justice Leag...sorry Justice Society (a precursor to the League) is called into action to bring him down.

The main issue I found with this movie was the simple fact that most of the runtime is made up of the Justice Society fighting Black Adam, that's it! The entire movie is set within this fictional ancient city which looks like somewhere in Egypt or the Middle East and nothing much else really happens. We just get lots of the usual superhero battle sequences involving lots of super punching and super throwing either into things or through things. The CGI effects are overall pretty terrible to boot which doesn't help matters. Everything is SO obviously CGI with that nasty plastic rubbery-looking gloss stuck alongside obvious-looking bluescreen shots and obvious sets. It sounds cliche but everything just looks like a videogame sequence. It just doesn't look convincing at all and in this day and age I simply expect more because I know it can be so much better.

Black Adam himself suffers the same problem any Dwayne Johnson movie suffers, Dwayne Johnson. In that I mean Johnson simply cannot act beyond his persona and he ALWAYS comes across as Dwayne Johnson in a costume, whatever that might be. You want a fun comedy romp in a jungle, or a ridiculous action flick with glimmering muscles then he's perfect, but that's it. Johnson trying to play it dark and murdering people just doesn't work because it just doesn't suit him. For the time being, he simply doesn't have the range.

As for other characters, let's quickly talk about the Justice Society. Boy oh boy do these guys suck ass. I mean seriously, talk about the poor man's Avengers. The bottom-of-the-barrel superheroes. We couldn't afford any decent characters or there weren't any good ones left so we had to use these guys, geez!! Hawkman looks ridiculous with his bird-shaped helmet adorned with feathers, he's also been race-swapped. I guess his super power is mainly flight? I guess that's useful for...flying. As her name suggests Cyclone controls the wind (Ugh!). Seems kinda useless and funnily enough she doesn't really do much in the movie because how's that effective against a Superman-type character like Black Adam? She's also race-swapped. Atom Smasher has the ability to grow to an enormous size like a giant, again pretty useless in the movie. And last but not least the poor man's Dr. Strange...Doctor Fate who funnily enough has virtually the same set of powers, I think, I'm not a comic expert. And yes I realise some of these characters appeared before their Marvel counterparts but I always found it funny and stupid how both Marvel and DC have essentially characters that mirror each other. They even have their X-Men-type ship to fly around in that is stored in their own X-Men-type mansion.

I guess the biggest disappointment here is after all the cookie-cutter crap I had to sit through to get to the cookie-cutter finale, the big bad guy turned out to be this laughable looking Devil/Satan-esque character that looked like he was getting ready to fight Sub-Zero. Talk about videogame looking nonsense Jesus! Literally everything in this movie was the most generic of generic superhero poop I've seen so far. You could have literally had ANY superhero character in here and it wouldn't have made any difference whatsoever. The human characters were completely inconsequential, much like the plot really. And naturally you had Marvel-esque quips (which totally underscored the tone) because DC is always playing catchup despite that Marvel aspect now losing favour.

I didn't really expect much here, at this point it merely feels like they are churning out superhero movies of any and all characters simply to keep the wagon rolling. This movie is literally the epitome of cookie-cutter, paint by numbers, off the factory line etc...There is nothing here that is original and nothing here that needed to be shown. This movie simply didn't need to be made. A Dwayne Johnson vanity project that admittedly could have been something as we've all been wondering how The Rock would fair in a cape, but somehow he screwed it up and all we have left is a plain boring superhero clone of a movie. That Superman credit scene will also go down in cinematic history as one of the biggest 'what if' dead ends ever (bit like Skeletor in 'Master of the Universe'). An open ending to something that will probably now never happen.

However, I apologize for the very bad expression in the middle battle scene, but I think it was a production, character, and technique that I have seen somewhere before. .
I don't know what the future of DC movies will be like, but I definitely wanted to experience the excitement of the MCU in DC. It was such a sad movie.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie could have been good but there's just so many unfunny jokes like when he lets the guy fall to his death while talking to Fate even tho they could have used him to find the boy it would have been better if he had flew over to him at super speed grabbing him mid air before he hit the ground and getting him to tell them where the boy is then after when the guy thinks he gonna get to live for telling them where the kid is Black Adam just drops him to his death anyways. That would have been way better not only would it actually be funny but also wouldn't be super dumb because again Fate wanted to use him to find the boy and Adam could have easily grabbed him before he hit the ground the same Adam who was also looking for the boy and had reason to not just let the guy die Expand

A The Rock-centric film, of which one did not feel the slightest need and which I would have easily done without in retrospect. As proof of this, the post-credit scene, while exciting and brilliant, remains an end in itself, since, as weA The Rock-centric film, of which one did not feel the slightest need and which I would have easily done without in retrospect. As proof of this, the post-credit scene, while exciting and brilliant, remains an end in itself, since, as we sadly know, it will go nowhere and will bring nothing but much regret. And sorry for wasting two hours of your life watching a bad movie. Expand
