Maybe I went in to this movie with low expectations but it was actually enjoyable. Lots of action, story was somewhat interesting, it had excellent fight and action scenes. Wanted to like this but couldn’t. The plot is as generic as you can get. It ultimately is a combination of everything you have seen before mixed into one package with no originality. Dwayne’s performance is fine,but he’s too one note and always in mono tone voice. The action scenes try to be flashy but overdo it with the slow mo that shouldn’t be in the movie at all. The music is just generic super hero music which didn’t really help much and dampened the impact of the fight. DC is trying too hard to compete with Marvel and just can’t keep up. They need to stop trying to do that and focus on their own stories and own style. Very disappointing.… Expand

Black Adam is sprinkled with good moments but the moments in between are a chore that said good moments only offer a perfunctory sigh instead of an exciting time. The dialogue is lifeless and the plot is even worse.

Dwayne Johnson and Pierce Brosnan shine as Black Adam and Dr Fate respectively, it's such a shame that Dr Fate was underplayed. I still don't get why Dr Fate was played down so much, it's such an audacious decision that makes absolutely no sense.

To sum it all, Black Adam can be entertaining if you can look past its horrible plot and dialogues, poor villain and generally paper-thin characters.… Expand

Black Adam is a typical Rock's 'joint', re-fashioned as a super hero film. Some pretty good set pieces, but they're not special in any way. The necessary parts are there for it to have turned out truly great, but the screws are out of place. The biggest downer is Dwayne's interpretation of the titular Black Adam. Tho, really good and enjoyable to watch, his take is, in truth, a far cry from every iteration of the character that's ever existed in any medium prior. Basically, it's not really Black Adam, it's The Rock's Black Adam.
The villain is so distant, I don't even hate him - the movie doesn't make you care enough to.
Dr Fate was good. Adrianna and her son (especially her son) were also standouts for me.
But the movie's just such a letdown overall from what I expected. A 6/10, IMO.… Expand

Black Adam is entertaining (even a bit generic as mostly haters say) DCU action movie. Hopefully it turns out ok *fingers crossed* James Gunn & that other fella have big tasks to do. I think they're gonna do well & first sign for it is Peacemaker's S02 arriving maybe before next summer. Also hope good success for DCU's Blue Beetle when it comes out before mid next year. Black Adam, Me ha gustado de principio a fin, inicio con acción fluyendo en armonía acompañado esto al desarrollo de la historia se va dando y cumple el cometido de entretener. Como se permitió abrir paso a otros superhéroes, en la narrativa algo forzado se aprecia a simple vista. Comparar con otras de este tipo no tiene mucho sentido, puesto que criticar en base a otras es una tarea pueril.
Sobre la historia se relata de buena manera, en contadas partes la ilación flaquea en la situación de los eventos, aunque a este tipo de películas de superhéroes es lo de menos. The Rock cumple en cuanto a su actuación, es un personaje para la acción reconozco que en este movie se aprecia una mínima porción de su parte dramática. Excesos en imágenes en cámara lenta es lo que note. Quede conforme, tenia reticencia de ver por los malos comentarios de la critica, ahi es cuando entiendo que no debo guiarme por ellos.… Expand

While did have fun watching it. Honestly, the thing I was wanting to see the most in this movie, that being Kahndaq, has been terribly told and the film focus's more on the justice society, which when seeing Dr. Fate, made me not excited toWhile did have fun watching it. Honestly, the thing I was wanting to see the most in this movie, that being Kahndaq, has been terribly told and the film focus's more on the justice society, which when seeing Dr. Fate, made me not excited to see them. But even though Dr. Fate is the worst character overall, I don't think he is the worst character in the film. That Honor goes to Hawk man. Now I can tell that the actor is trying his best with the character, but with the script that he was given is the main reason why his character sucks, Like for example, He said that "Heroes don't kill people", But like Superman killed Zod at the end of Man of Steel and Wonder Woman killed Ares at the end of Wonder Woman 2017. So I don't get why Black Adam cant kill when even fricken Batman has killed people before. And he is just there to get his @$$ killed throughout the entire film. I think Atom Smasher is completely forgettable even though he is the best of the crew, Hurricane was also forgettable, Dr. fate was cool in some scenes or like his character from the Comics or Injustice 2 which are my least favorite versions of him. Sabbac is also a Terrible Villain. And I Found the final battle pretty underwhelming, Finally I Think the music should most definitely be used less. With that said, I don't hate this film, I think the Dwayne Johnson does a great job as the villain version of Black Adam (even though he is being set up more as a hero rather than a villain.) The action outside of the Final battle is pretty fun, And Black Adams Introduction was Fantastic. So while not a good film in my eyes. But I would rather you watch this than Halloween Ends.

Amazing movie, that's how you make an anti-hero: ruthless, violent and cooperative only when the purposes are the same.
The Justice Society is a very nice "hero add" to the cast, Brosnan was born to be Fate and Hawkman was a surprise.

My only question is when is part 2 happening with the Witcher? Lol. Black Adam is one scary dude if you are not trying to kill him lol. His character made sense it is not your general hero story his not even a hero at all he says it too in the film. Considering his from an era where there is no justice system/due process, your a slave and his dark back story. I'm sure its common for something small like stealing could get you executed. And if you had to fight an enemy you have to kill your enemy if not your enemy can come back to kill you or massacre your entire family. He is not a hero. He only takes action purely on his choices and own consideration towards others that happen to save lives or end lives lol. I would absolutely recommend others to watch this film and I would definitely watch it over again to have somebody share the experience with.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Well, I'll start by saying that a movie hasn't moved me this much in a long time, but Black Adam did. His Action Scenes, I liked the role that Dwayne Johnson plays as Black Adam a lot, his charisma and makes the film have those touches of humor, I also really liked the Soundtrack of the Movie, the Music in my opinion They chose it very well for every occasion, and I like the Black Adam soundtrack in general, especially when we see Black Adam for the first time coming out of the "Tomb" that was on the mountain. The truth is, it gives you that feeling that he told you: " You are seeing one of the most powerful "Superheroes" And he knows how to do it, on the other hand I liked it a lot as they included Dr. Fate, Hawkman, Cyclone and Atom Smasher, I liked their costumes a lot Especially because their costumes look alike to the comics. I had a lot of fun watching Black Adam, His Action Scenes are very good and funny, But there was a time when it was a bit tiring to see it, Since I thought I was going to end with Black Adam Locked in Prison for Not Saying: " Shazam" and Become Black Adam, but then comes Sabbac and Black Adam is back again, but aside from that I liked it, Another thing I didn't like was that because they had to kill Dr. Fate, The truth is he had a lot of potential as a character, and to make a movie for himself and see more of his story, and the last thing I liked, was that in the Post-Credits Scene, Superman played by actor Henry Cavill appeared, The truth is that I was impressed because I did not expect it, I hope that in a sequel to Black Adam we can see Superman fight with Black Adam and maybe also see him fight with Shazam or the 2 together against Black Adam, Well that was my opinion about Black Adam, I'm not good at doing this kind of thing but I wanted to say my opinion, It's long but I hope you like it, greetings to those who are watching it.… Expand

The action was DC type action and I'm saying that to the story is usually average but the action was in your face and smash mouth and of course they did the slo-mo thing DC does. The story just lacked a lot it seemed like. I love the setting in Black Adams native land and bringing it to modern day, but the kid and mom became almost annoying to the point I was wondering why are they still a major part of the story and not to knock the actors but just did seem like a likely story line for Black Adam. The last thing I will say is why is this kid riding around on a skateboard in set pieces that looked like it was from a 90s era movie. Overall I would still recommend to watch, but not at the movie theater wait till its available for stream.… Expand

As someone who watches almost every comic book film adaptation, I would recommend this film as I enjoyed it very much due to its engaging treatment of a brand new set of characters previously unseen on the screen. Standout performances were done by Pierce Brosnan, Dwayne Johnson, and Bodhi Sabongui. Greatest strength: DC explores a complex world where life is not simply good versus evil. Grey areas permeate the lives of the people and the antihero of Kahndaq.

Weakness: Needs more character development for the final villain. Beginning of film uses a lot of native language which is good for story building, but could have used more English in my opinion.… Expand

Black Adam is set about 5,000 years after he was bestowed with powers. After freeing his hometown, Kahndaq,Streamers, the long-awaited DC Comic adaptation of Black Adam is finally here. We finally get to see Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam. Black Adam is set about 5,000 years after he was bestowed with powers. After freeing his hometown, Kahndaq, Black Adam finds himself waiting in confinement for his time to return as Kahndaq’s savior. Freed from his tomb, Black Adam is ready to unleash his justice on modern day Kahndaq and dares anyone to stop him. DC Comic action ensues.

Let’s get this out of the way: the movie is quite entertaining but of course DC Comics will DC Comics. As we know from their previous installments, they come with a lot of hype but sometimes they just fizzle in the full execution. This movie is no different, but the fizzle is honestly quite less. The issues here are more annoying than bad. For instance, The Rock and the rest of the cast are going to bring us comedy, but I found that the one-liners that were supposed to make us chuckle missed the mark. Watching, I knew the line was supposed to be funny, but the flow of the movie blows passed the line or something. It seems like the editing of the movie messed with the timing for some of these jokes, and it happened a few too many times. There are still funny moments that hit hard, but those moments that fell flat are noticeable. Along with that, the script felt repetitive. Characters seemed to be saying the same thing over and over. I get that they were trying to drive home the theme of the movie but come off it!

Next, I hate when really smart people in movies conveniently forget something they know that is very simple just so it can lead to a twist or turning point in the movie. It happened here and it literally makes no sense. It’s just annoying that it happened. It’s not terrible just like eh come on DC, y’all couldn’t have thought of a better way to either make the situation harder to figure out or something. Again, annoying but not bad.

Lastly, we’re fighting this god-like figure, why do we bring someone to the fight that clearly can’t help. My girl, Quintessa Swindell wasn’t asked to do much with her character, Cyclone, so naturally she did perfectly well. However, Cyclone had no business in this movie. Her powers were demonstrated beautifully and very artistically but in no way would be helpful in this fight. Like come on DC Comics, y’all could’ve put any other character in this spot that might have been actually helpful. So again, it’s not bad just annoying or a missed opportunity by the filmmakers. On top of that, it’s hard to have a movie with characters similar to the MCU and then try to differentiate those characters. I find Dr. Fate and Atom Smasher a bit too close to Dr. Strange and Ant-Man. It’s hard to see them demonstrate powers and not get the feeling I’ve seen this before. This isn’t the movie’s fault but it’s just a byproduct of the DC and Marvel race copycatting each other over the decades. Nevertheless, it’s hard to shake that feeling, especially in the fight sequences.

Now, for the good. The movie is crisp, clean, hard hitting, similar to the other DC movies. On this alone, the movie is one of those movies you turn on just to ooh and ahh at the action sequences on FX. The characters are portrayed very well, and producers definitely cast the movie well. Johnson’s Black Adam is stoic, powerful, callous but caring and clever. Of course, we get the power for the character, but Johnson also shows some sentimental acting in the flick that helps show the character’s depth of emotions and burden in the movie. They could’ve easily taken the character into a typical Johnson film and comedy, but they toed the line pretty well, allowing him some comic relief without losing the stoic strength. Aldis Hodge’s Hawkman is suave, smart, powerful and relentless. Pierce Brosnan as Dr. Fate was quite fitting as well.

With that said, Black Adam is an entertaining movie that plans to keep the DC Comic Universe continuing over the next years. Black Adam isn’t without its issues which is typical to DC Comics and their finnicky execution. Dwayne Johnson and cast bring a hard-hitting character to life. It’s hard to say this movie is not worth seeing on the big screen but I also realize comic fans may also be annoyed with the movie a bit. You will not be mad seeing this on big screen but just realize there will be some DC Comic movie issues. I mean the movie is worth seeing for the after-credit scene alone… *Nudge Nudge*… Expand

I get why critics hate it. How dare a movie just be fun and cater to the male audience these days :D ok, my girlfriend also had a lot of fun... When I found out about release of this film, I was hyped. Finally Dwayne Johnson plays a super hero instead of some guy from a jungle. But after watching it, I had mixed feelings. I would give it a 9/10 if it was in 3D and if it didn't use the Illuminati sign for freedom. In reality the Illuminati is against freedom and is for the new word order and depopulation. Black Adam as a character he has lots of potential. Unfortunately this movie cared little about his story, but more about creating an action pack sequence of events.

This movie is in a way a reboot of the DCEU, because several questions canBlack Adam as a character he has lots of potential. Unfortunately this movie cared little about his story, but more about creating an action pack sequence of events.

This movie is in a way a reboot of the DCEU, because several questions can be asked. Like where was the JSA in Man of Steel and Justice League.

Everyone was so in awe with Superman, when the Earth already had a kind of super man of the past called Black Adam, other superhuman characters. Several movies lose some sense seeing the JSA and the existence of Black Adam, proves that there is a far deeper history of the Earth that is only now being revealed.

And that is a huge flaw, because it raises questions that only harm the movies already done. Unless of course WB is now attempting to reboot the DCEU, but in such a soft way that it doesn't feel like a reboot.

As for the movie Black Adam... Can't really say I was surprised in the least with anything that happened. I had already guessed it right, how they were going to change Teth-Adam origin story to appeal to the viewers. So there was no surprise there, only the confirmation of my own theories.

Characters like Dr Fate (Pierce Brosnan), Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo) and Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell) deserved a movie before Black Adam. To give us more insight and a better understanding of their connection.

Pierce Brosnan was definitely brilliant as Dr Fate, landing his lines with the perfection expected of a grade A actor. And as a character, he deserved more than what he got in his movie.

The dynamic between the JSA members was refreshing, because there was no wokeness between Cyclone and the other characters. She was part of the team, and never once does she act as if she's superior to her male teammates, nor do they act superior to her.

As for Black Adam... It was Dwayne Johnson being himself. It was always clear that Johnson would never go along with the sometimes evil methods of the Black Adam of the comics, and so they adopted the more recent approach from the comics where Black Adam is more of an anti hero.

As for the character Adrianna Tomaz (Sarah Shahi) it's clear there was more she could've done or become, but unfortunately this movie is not about telling a great story balanced with some action scenes. This is an action movie with some story in there, just enough so people can understand what is happening.

It's clear that Adrianna Tomaz was set up to become Ísis, but that will demand sequels that at this point may or may not happen.

Overall, Black Adam is a movie that once it shifts to 5th gear it just doesn't stop. And like a Michael Bay Transformers movie, story is sacrificed in favor of action.

It's not a bad movie. Far from it. It's actually a good movie, and perhaps great for those looking for an action movie, but it could've been an overall great movie if they had left room for more.

The most notable of these is, of course, the degree of anti-heroism displayed by the titular character. Make no mistake, no huge "lines" are crossed here, but the wrathfulness is undeniably fun to watch nonetheless. This thing moves quite briskly as well — sometimes to its own detriment. With that, though, I can say I was never bored while watching this. There's always something going on, a lot of which works. Other things don't. A few of the side characters are a bit grating. A portion of the humor doesn't land. Effects waver in quality on occasion. Johnson, Brosnan and Hodge are quite good, though. In the end, I'd say, "Black Adam" is perfectly decent — and admittedly dumb — fun.… Expand

It does seem it wished to say something about the leftovers of colonialism and neo-imperialism, but it's all drowned under the sound of punches and wannabe funny one-liners.

He plays his typical role as a tough guy which fits him very well but now as an anti-hero. The action scenes are well done and with excellent special effects. Lots of action, there is no way to get bored. At a time when Marvel is making such poor quality movies like Thor Love and Thunder, this is a breath of fresh air.… Expand

This movie is a lot better than the critic score states it is. It's not a 10/10, but it was pretty good. They explained too much and went into too much detail. Stop talking and get the story moving. Other than that, I thought it was good. The actors did really well, I actually went in thinking Dwayne wouldn't do so well, but I was pleasantly surprised. And of course, I have been waiting a long time for a silver-screen Dr. Fate. And I loved that character in this movie, the actor did an amazing job of capturing the character and hopefully, it finally leads to a Dr. Fate movie.… Expand

So in the year 2600BC a bunch of Wizards gave the power of the gods to a young slave in order to stop the evil King Ahk-Ton from using the evil crown of Sabbac. He triumphs, making him the Champion of Kahndaq. Now nearly 5,000 years later he his accidently awakened in modern day Kahndaq. Deemed too powerful, it’s time to call in some professionals to deal with him. Cue The Justice League……no wait, that’s not right……The Suicide Squad……oh no, not them either, ah yes, The Justice Society of America……that lot. Made up of Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Dr. Fate (Pierce Brosnan), Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell) and Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo). And no I’m not making these up. Christ the DCEU is a right mess. I wish they’d just calm down with all the team up movies, it was half-assed before and it’s the same again. For anyone who didn’t already know, yes this is a Shazam spin-off.

Alright I don’t ever want to see slow motion used in another Superhero movie ever again, ya hear me? You ruined it. Black Adam probably could have been twenty minutes shorter if it wasn’t for the extreme overuse of slow motion. Feckin’ ridiculous. Enough is enough. This right here is the result of a bunch of mindless money hungry studio executives sitting in a room and brainstorming a way to make a Blockbuster Superhero movie that will rake in the cash. Get one of the highest paid stars in Hollywood to sign on as the lead and bam! You’ve got yourself a Superhero movie, and a rather heartless one at that.

Black Adam is a giant disappointment and I didn’t exactly have high expectations to begin with. It’s dull, stupid and uses an obnoxious amount of terrible CGI for the endless crashy fight scenes. There’s also plenty of slow motion to make sure you don’t miss anything. And look I know many of the comic-book movies rely on lots of CGI but it’s just not up to standard anymore. Either pay the VFX artists better or allow more time to make it actually look decent.

There is absolutely nothing exciting about Black Adam, it’s one of the most underwhelming Superhero movies I have ever seen. There is zero peril, no sense that the hero is ever in danger or in trouble. They’ve created the blandest character imaginable, a hero so ultimately powerful it’s boring. He’s surrounded by a bunch of underdeveloped characters showing up for more awful CGI fight scenes. Lots of explosions, lightning bolts and evil red lasers.

Black Adam isn’t the worst Superhero movie I’ve ever seen, it’s not even the worst DC movie out there but it’s close. Too close. Recommended for any DCEU fans, I’m sure there’s still a few of you out there. The mid credits scene lasted about a minute but it was better than the entire film for one obvious reason.… Expand
